My strategy for the intermediate plateau is to just decide that intermediate is actually really good. Who needs to be C1? Keep reading and somehow you might even break through it. Or not. The only time this didn’t work for me was when I was living in Japan and wanted to integrate with the culture more and really felt I needed an advanced level. But I moved back to the US and I’m more than happy with my intermediate Japanese now 😆
Yea I think we tend to forget that an intermediate level is nothing to scoff at. Sure, there'll be limitations (more or less depending on the topic, setting, etc.) but it's not like life doesn't start until you reach a C1 level! 🙌

I think we have to be honest with ourselves and recognize: while getting to B2 might only take 2-3 years, moving beyond it is a lifelong project, or at least a very long-term one -- a beautiful and worthy lifelong endeavor. And what got you here won’t get you there. You gotta get systematic about how you study, set aside weekly time for listening, reading, writing and conversing, have a plan for logging and reviewing new words, because you’re not going to see them frequently enough to just passively osmose them, you gotta switch much of your normal media consumption over to your target language, so that you can do all of your normal hobbies in L2. Or you can just take your time and enjoy all the thing you can do in your language, and recognize that the thrilling rapids may be over, and you’re on the long and winding river part of the journey, but there are many fun side adventures to be had along the way.

I feel like I am in the intermediate plateau. I have been studying Swedish for more than 3 years now, but still don't consider myself fluent. I study mostly by translating song lyrics. But I also have some texts I found in the internet. The texts have a very different vocabulary than the lyrics. It is almost a different language. Song lyrics have a very easy vocabulary and I think I can translate any lyrics quite easily. But when it comes to normal texts, it is still as difficult as when I started. The other problem is that normal texts can be quite boring. I am never bored with songs, I love listening to songs. But normal texts are a different beast. I don't know where to find interesting texts. Maybe short stories may be the best kind of texts, while Wikipedia articles are probably the worst.
I think changing things up and challenging yourself with things you wouldn't usually do is a great way to get over the plateau. You said you study lyrics a lot, do you ever watch vlogs? Read or listen to the news? Chat with natives? Play games in the Swedish? These things are going to feel comparatively extra difficult in the beginning, but you'll notice really quickly that you're explanding your language reach.
I think the plateau is due to forgetting, making it an actual plateau. Words learned early come back every day. Words leaned late hide in little corners
I agree that forgetting might be a factor at late intermediate stages. Though with enough repetition within the same topic area it shouldn't be too bad until much later on

Don't let that discourage you! Keep at it and in a couple of months you'll look back and realize how far you've already come 💪
