I have been learning German for a while because I have heard Chistian when he said languages are for connecting people and I want to explore the german´s culture. So I decided to improve my English skills to learn German because my mother tongue is spanish. And it is easier to understand German with a previous knowledge of English than spanish.

Within human beings specie there are teachers, mechanics, engineers, musicians, electricians, etc., who add slangs, numbers, sub-numbers, notes, cables, pieces, completely unnecessary or of rare use, just to feel superior and create ghettos of wisdom. Fortunately there are people with a big heart and empathy who care about nurturing to others with basic, simple but elemental survival tools. So them can understand and interact with the surprises along the way. This man is a worthy example of the second ones. The generosity of his words and pronunciation is so clear tool that it can surely be understood and moved anywhere on the planet. Thanks Christian.🙏

I entered to watch this video because I noticed this phenomenon with all 4 languages I can speak including my mother language. But I didn't notice only with just vocabulary, I noticed this with progression in eloquence.
Your video is useful, but I think that best way to continue progressing is to interact with a language by art and literature by reading more of these, and by increasing the philosophical understanding of these, and by having your own style and to be able to criticise yourself without bias.

As an advanced learner, I suggest also learning the history of a word so that you can have a faster way to remember them. Language is not an exact science. It is engineered by people and refined by scholars, and used by people again. Learning that history will make you own that word.

Great motivational thoughts! Encouraging learners to USE their knowledge is the best thing a teacher can do. This way they will improve effortlessly. I have been a learner for forty years and still enjoy English classes. Using the language leads us to learn new vocabulary, grammar and improve communication skills. There will always be something to discover and grasp in this process. I could not agree more: Enjoy your English! 😃

Hola Christian, tengo 65 años, casi siempre estudie inglés solo, y puedo entender casi todos tus videos. Te agradezco mucho tus palabras, muchas veces quiero abandonar.

I was taught English at school, for 6 years, but only 45 minutes a week and by a non native speaker.

Super useful video about setting expectations. Makes sense that my vocabulary increased dramatically in college when I started reading several hours a day and listening to hours of lectures on the materials using those specific vocabulary words found in the materials I had read. I tell adult students aiming for the top of the pyramid in English learning that doing a degree in some subject, with it being taught only in English, should get you to the treasured C1/C2 level, though if you have self discipline you could just read a lot, take notes and discuss your readings with an online tutor. Then afterwards come up with a thesis statement based on your discussion and write an essay on it for your tutor to review. Very few people are willing to do this in my experience though. Most students just want to get to a level where they are understood and not stressed when they speak English.

You’re right, sir. Initially, I learned only grammar. Now I still struggle with writing and reading a lot.

I agree 100% with you. I always say to my friends that we are learning english to speak with the people all over the world, when we go on hollidays or we must go to one meeting abroud our borders, and not always to speak with a english native man or woman exiting of the tube. It's nice to speak with native people, but is very difficult to meet english people in Greece, or in Italy. So, is better to improve our english in order to communicate with people all over the world, and no only with people living in Ireland, Australia, Canada and so on. I was working in an hotel in London when I was young, and now, when decades are passed, I have the feeling that I have been all my life in the Intermediate Plateau. I've loved very much your speech. You are a very good teacher, and, like I've read in an another message, a very good Philosopher, or Phychologist. Thank you very-very much !!
