- I use this Scepter Water Can for Camping, and it does the job. It is nice to have something this durable for Emergency as well. Thank you @GrizzlyPath for the water spout idea!
Below are the items from the video:

* Update (2/24/24) for the adaptor recommended below:
I have used this adaptor on my other unmodified Scepter and it worked fine. I have had a few users use it and had trouble with it. Many others have had success. I'm not sure if the design was changed somehow, but just be aware of this. If you do the modification I did in the video, everything will work as it should and you can skip this part
If you want to skip the little modification I did you can get this thing for $7 and it holds the spout on well:

This adapter did not work
@@BlainesDays It worked fine for me. It needs to be dry, if it gets wet it will slip out.
I still had to modify the internal diameter of the Scepter Can Lid to accept the size of the pump. Doing so makes this adapter redundant.
i got my adapter from firecrateusa which threads on to the spout and holds the pump great. it also came with upgraded hose that was stretchy enough to fit a sawyer water filter inline (like a lifestraw but mini). love the setup it works so well @@BlainesDays
The outer radius of this adaptor fits the pump perfectly, but the inner radius is just a bit too large to hold onto the Scepter spout firmly. I did your modifications and it worked better but like others have said, the adapter is then redundant.
I use a Fernco utility connector 1X1.5" for mine. No modifications needed. Part number: Fernco PUC-1510
It fits into the pump, then slips over the spout.
Interesting, thanks! I'll have to look into that.
Thanks
U use the same jug he has here in the vid?
I can confirm that this works. Thanks for the advice
I used my pocket knife to carve down the splines on the water pump to make it fit so I didn't have to modify my water cans, works great!
That's great! I appreciate you watching.
Can you give more details about that???
I just did the same .... fits like a glove !!
Thank you! great solution!
👍
I like it!
Thank you
Great tips! Thanks for posting this.
Thanks for watching!
Enjoyed your vid - concise and informative. Thx.
Thank you!
Thank you friend for the lesson! 👍👍👍
Glad it was helpful
That spout works well
agreed
Great stuff man. Just got mine and saw this video which will makes me to get those pumps. Great stuff
Awesome. They work great
Thanks! This was really helpful.
Absolutely
@@AZOverland2017 So helpful that I followed your links to Amazon. :)

Excellent. Been wondering how to carry water. Thank you!
Thanks for watching!
Thanks. Now I know exactly how to put mine together. Lowes has those scepter cans on sale right now at about half price
Yup, I just went with my brother and he picked up another 4. Great price!
@@AZOverland2017 Yes I did! ;)
DS Tactical has them for about 40 bucks each. Lowes fyi are sold out as of November 18 2023.
Point to note that they ship Fedex and costs to ship is over 40 bucks for me.
This is fantastic. Seriously, thanks. Because this not only addresses the need for clean water goofing off and camping but it also addresses the need to purify water in an emergency.
Edited to add: There's a lot of click baity stuff out here but this is actually genius.
Thanks for the comment. I appreciate you watching
thank you just exactly what I needed and the price is very reasonable
Your welcome. Thanks for watching
Hi. Thank you for the video. I have a couple thermoses that I have to mix half hot water half cold to create warm/hot water for various things. I am wondering if this kind of container and spigot would work? Can the spigot handle warm to hot water?
I don't see why warm water would be an issue, but I'm not sure it is built for hot liquids. I would reach out to the company to be sure. Wish I could be more help!
2:40 did not know this!
Same!!! Awesome!
Great video
What size ream bit did you use
I don't remember but really any size smaller than the opening will work. You don't want to remove too much material because the difference in the size of the spout male and the water jug female is very close already. The goal is to just remove a little material from the opening then rough it up a bit more and the spout will fit snugly and no pop out. You definitely don't want to remove too much material.
A little confussed does the filter go inside the scepter can or the outside? You stated hose bib what size? Can you give me a little more detail on how you do it. Thanks
I was referring to the hose spigot on the outside of the house, where you connect your garden hose. They are pretty standard in size.
I attach it to that spigot or it can be attached to the end of the hose. I attach it using hose quick connects (sort of like how you attach air tools to an air hose coming from a compressor). Does that make sense. I believe I put links to these items in the Description below the video
Awesome idea. Thanks for the info. The wife and I were a little of sick of picking up & tilting the Scepter.
Question: with your pump model, can the steel spout be detached to store more easily without breaking it off?
I haven't tried but I don't believe so. I usually pull it off and store it inside my camping bin when traveling.
Yes! I take the stainless spout out to store the pump. It is a friction mount.
@@nwgts437 Good to know, I haven't tried to remove the spout. Thank you
I came here for the 2:40 mark. I used this for the first time on a week long trip and the cap getting in the way drove me nuts. Thanks.
Yeah, that damn cap wants to always swing in the way.
I've been using one of these in my camping setup, any ideas how to clean and sanitize the faucet and hose between uses? My hose got funky (mildew?) and I'm sure the faucet has as well. Thanks 👍
I usually take it off when I leave camp or get home and use compressed air to dry it out the best I can. Then leave it out for a day to air dry as well before I pack it back it my camping bin. Oh yeah, I also recharge it at that time. If you have mildew I would probably get a new one for the $12 and start over.
@@AZOverland2017 thanks for the info!
Question.....do these cans leak if you lay them on their side with the lids secured? I want to do the exact same thing that you did with the water dispenser, but my water jugs will need to be stored on their side on top of my truck in the roof rack. Curious to know if leaking will be a concern when they are on their side during travels.
They should not leak on their side but I would recommend using a "wrench" to tighten the caps if you are going to do that; See link below.
I'm not sure what the result would be if you are going through extreme elevation changes though. You might need to loosen/retighten to get that seal back

Nice video! The link for the water dispenser no longer works. Do you know the name so I can look it up?
Thanks for letting me know! Here you go:
amzn.to/4aQ0u3H
Do you have a trip coming up?
Yes, hopefully in a few days. Camping in the AZ desert
If using these types of containers for long term storage - do I need to add a few drops of bleach just in case ? Am I being overly concerned?
I wash them out with a dilution of white vinegar and water after using them, then thoroughly dry them before storing. Then before I use them again, I give them another quick rinse with the same dilution.
What do you need to get your arm inside there’s plenty other ways to clean out a water container
Because I like to do it that way
Do you have a link to the drill bit ?
Here you go. Same bit, but not 100% sure it's the exact size. I believe it is
amzn.to/3DXERQh
@@AZOverland2017 thank you! I will keep my fingers crossed it’s right size
@@dr.christophergroves2116 Sure! Mine didn't fit in the opening perfectly, I just moved it side to side to take a little material off and rough it.
How long would the water stay good for
Haven't really had to worry about that. Most I've used it for was 3 days
@@AZOverland2017 oh okay
if it is stored inside a shed or structure, probably close to a year's time. I have a few of these smaller containers for preparedness and camping.
I still have mine after 9 years, oh yeah that pump is a classic. I paid back then $6.95 now crazy on how much. But works great
Nice 👍
Is this device loud?
Not very loud at all. It gives a soft moan
who drinks water with a pinky raised high
Stick around, you'll eventually pick up on my subtle humor 😅
