Glycine Combat Sub is absolutely terrific. I own many divers, and I find the Glycine to be one of the best deals in this price range. Swiss movement, sapphire crystal, milled clasp, and more importantly for me, a very slim profile at 10.6mm thick. Wears like a dream.

    • @han7902
      @han7902 ปีที่แล้ว +2

36mm and 39mm models that came out in 2021 and 2022 made the combat sub even better. Both models add extra 100 meters water resistance, in compare to the 42mm model.

Would love to see a "battle of the bracelets" across a range of products, stock and aftermarket. Like you they are hugely important in my purchasing decision. Could be similar to the lume wars!

I like the Tissel subby homage, it has a clone glidelock on it which is nice. I lprefer it to the Phoibos, cause I can get it no date (I think the date ruins that phoibos), and a kermit option (and the green ceramic is actually nice and dark). The phoibos does have a cooler logo tho.

Not sure it matters to be honest. It's the easiest part of the watch to swap out and/or replace, both in terms of the aftermarket choices available and the actual swapping out of the bracelet. That makes it the least important factor in my purchasing decision in this relatively affordable price bracket. Once it's above $500 that's when I start to pay attention to the bracelet.

@@PT111111 a good quality bracelet is nice and matters to me. If I drop 3-4 hundred on a watch I dont want to have to go on strapecode and spend another 100-150 on a quality bracelet with solid ends and milled clasps. Just my thoughts.

Thanks Jody, a great summary. I’ve got the Helm Vanuatu, added the FC-1 Clasp and it’s a proper treat. You’re right when you say it’s a little on the heavy side, but it has such a gorgeous ‘tool’ feel to it.

Hey! Just wanted to say that this was my NEW favorite JOMW video. You keep getting better & better at this TH-cam thing. The whole package was superb - the content, your editing, the new camera, your voice modulation, and your calm watch-handling technique. AND all the small details around the periphery that so many TH-camrs just don't get right. Good on ya! I liked this particular topic, too. I do love me some dive watches - not sure why. Your channel is a treat indeed. Thank you for that voodoo that you do!

Hi there, I know you reviewed it recently but several of us in my field of work use the new Rotary Super 7 Automatic special edition- we have a very unique front line outdoors job overseas and polish off a ten week rotation with a fortnight's diving. It totally measures up and is good looking, ergonomic and superbly well made. It deserves not to be overlooked. I know the Seiko Atlas strictly speaking isn't a diver, it is an outdoor field watch with diver equivalent specs but it is also another winner- robust and capable, like a Marathon watch at a fraction of the cost!

I have had my Orient Triton for over 6 months and it is one of my favorite watches. It gets the most wrist time of my 40 watches, since I wear it to bed. It has great lume and the diver extension is handy if I need the bracelet looser while sleeping. After having a power reserve dial on this and my Orient Star GMT, I do not think I will buy another automatic without it. My other divers are an Orient Ray II, which I bought before the Triton and a Citizen Promaster Diver (BN0191-55L), which I wear for something different or I feel the need for quartz accuracy. Currently, the five watches I am wearing the most are: Orient Triton, Timex Ironman (for running and bicycling), Citizen Promaster Tough (BN0211-50E), Citizen Courageous (BL1258-53L), Casio G-Shock GW-S5600-1JF (just got it).

Jody, one of the truly great things about your work is that you engender TRUST. The fact that you link to watches you put your recommendations behind is the key difference. Sure, you make a few cents to help the Chanel survive, but that’s fine because we are all willing to do that in trade for your hard and reliable work. Thanks

Great review and list Jody! I agree the Mini turtle is the gem and sleeper of the lower end Seikos. I bought a Orient Triton, black and gold and it on sale is a steal. Everything lines up perfectly, great bezel action, bracelet is well finished if a bit cheap - like seiko. Put a strapecode on it and take it up a few notches. The new King Seikos are interesting but in Canada at $850 just to get San Martin specs? I would just go 053 or baby MM or stay micro brand but at least they are waking up.

Hey Jody, I've watched a fair amount of your reviews and recomendations I find them great. They're are always very clear, informative and entertaining and it's nice to see a variety of watches being shown. One thing I struggle to understand (as I'm new to buying watches) is, if you buy an affordable automatic movement watch say less than £500. It's not accurate at all and would need constant resetting as the margin for accuracy seems to be something like -20 / +45 which is a massive margin. Wouldn't you be better off buying a Eco drive / Quartz movement for far less to achieve the accuracy? I know the affordable automatics are very enticing but for the accuracy, I don't think it's worth it.

This is a great list. Lots of great watches.
Personally, I would say the Regular Seiko Turtle is another contender of you like the size. Certain ones can be had for under $400. It also has a day/Date which nothing on this has.
I thought Ibwould mention that Deep Blue has several divers under $400, especially with there “Deep” code. I have heard of some people really disliking them, while others really like them. Spec-wise, they are par with the other watches on this list.

Own a few of the Samurai after learning after market Turtle bezels can be swapped. Helm are great. Flipped all of them for same price I paid when I decided they were just too heavy. Glycines I also flipped after owning several of the Combat Subs -they need a dial design like Helm uses -they are either boring or too hard to read. I just ordered the Phoibos PY007 it's a little small but has so many great features for the price. I also have the same Merkur turtle homage and the frustrating delivery time Kraken H2 that I'm likely going to sell. The Zelos Swordfish looks great ....but the clasp.
Comment about Battle of the bracelets is a great suggestion! This is a great idea. A micro adjust clasp or Rolex style glide lock are kind of mandatory for me now after using them on most of my watches. It seems once you start going up in price there are some nice options (Mido OS, Certina DS Action, CW C65 Trident ect) that are lower profile and no sharp edges (unlike the Strapcode divers extension clasp). Ginault will fit some Seiko watches but there are some modifications or spring bar swaps to figure out and unfortunately they have doubled in price since I got one for my Halios.

  • @oktc68

Heimdallr do a very nice variation of the 6105, the case is more Turtle than Willard in outline but has the Willard style crown guards. It's from their Custom-made range and comes with either the PT5000 or if you can find one a Swiss made ETA 2824-2. Case finishing is better than the NH35A variations but it's only available on the waffle style rubber strap. The lume is Lumibrite standard, easily visible thru the night. Obviously a bit more expensive and not quite a Captain Willard homage but I think that makes it a little more unique but a bargain for £250 ish for the ETA version which performs within COSC tolerance on my example. The Merkur is also a standout, case is great. Really interesting video, thanks.

Great list Jody. Personally I reckon the Lorier Neptune deserves a spot in the list as it just scrapes in at US$399. It has vintage dimensions and aesthetics as well as being beautifully finished. The attention detail and passion is evident in nearly every aspect. They sell out within a couple of days but they restock every few months or so timing is everything when trying to purchase one.

yeah man, supply is an issue, the lorier website had the hydra and falcon in stock, i was so gutted they were out of neptunes, but i found one on ebay and bought that. i absolutely love it, beautiful domed crystal, excellent finishing, beautiful blue dial with no date ruining the symmetry, vivid blue lume, excellent proportions and a comfortable tapered stainless steel bracelet, very underrated, it's my go to watch

    • @jarrodcilia
      @jarrodcilia 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

@@mitchaelhollingsworth1698 When it comes to supply I reckon they are being sensible and sustainable. We've seen many microbrands fall into the trap of overstocking an item only to have it not sell and then have to reduce the price down just to move stock. By being sensible with their stocking levels, Lorier are not overstretching themselves and as a result they are able to continually sell out of their stock at the price they want to sell it at.
For those interested in buying one, the best thing to do is to follow them on Instagram. They always post the exact dates and time they are restocking an item which will give you plenty of time to put aside some cash and put a reminder in your calendar.
One other really nice touch they do is not waste the customers' money with some fancy box and packaging. Instead they use a standard simple cardboard box with the watch packed in a nice leather watch roll. Fancy boxes are nice, but they just end up in a drawer or cupboard somewhere. Like most collectors, I store my watches in a multi watch box or in winders. A leather watch roll is something that is actually useful, especially for those that travel around a bit.

Great list, agree with the Orients and the Glycine . Have you ever reviewed the Tisell Submariner homage or any of their watches? They look pretty good with Miyota 9015 movements.

Great vid Jody. Interesting choices. I'll be looking at a customized Turtle. Oh, I almost forgot; I would put mu rubber striped Victorinox Swiss Army Professional Diver. It's ISO certified and perhaps the toughest Diver on the market. Bought mine for for $365.00. Beautiful and Badass!

Excellent list Jody, imo the Orient Mako usa (solid EL) should be on the list over the Kamasu.

One of your best videos Jody. I will have to watch this again. I did not take notes. My biggest problem with dive watches is the weight more than the size. I hate heavy watches yet dive watches are heavy. I know this must have taken you a lot of time to research. Seiko's keep going up in price. I remember when you could get a Padi for 250 dollars and SKS for 160.00 dollars. (USD) I like swiss ETA over SW-200 any day unless its sw-200-2 which does not have the gear wearing out problem. That is why some of these swiss watches are so cheap from the sw 200 being dumped because they know it has a flaw. Take care.

Great list, my problem is they all look so similar, none stand out :-( ..I have moved to experimenting with Vostok simply because they stand out, their case and the domed ‘glass’.

Great job 👍 Jody. Obviously, you're not going to be able to please everyone with so many brands and models to choose from. I had to watch your video 4 times as I was one of the many guilty ones researching your picks.
From your list I own the Samurai SRPD23 and 2 Glycine Combat Sub's: GL0077 42mm & GL0095 48mm, both on bracelets. Anyone with a 7.5"or larger wrist might want to consider the 48mm models. My wrist is just under 8" and both Glycine's fit great.
The Prospex Turtles are a nice option as well (I have 2).
While you were talking about them, I went to the Zelos website & looked at the Swordfish V2 line. I pulled the trigger on the Ice Blue model.

Your list is top-notch per usual mate. But...
Forgive me if I've missed it, but have you considered Deep Blue? Lots of choices but the NATO diver and Master 1000 diver lines are the bargain sweets spots. Excellent specs. Massive choices in case sizes 40, 42, 44, dial color and build, straps, bracelets, etc.. Very good regular pricing with occasionally ridiculous bargain deals (40% off labor day sale this week!)

    Love it!

Lume is superb, love the rektangular lumepip on the seconds hand.
May get one of the bronze one in the future.

Great video! 👍 clicked. My choices 1- turtle homage (san martin bronze case) bronze watches are getting expensive and MTO per waiting list. This one is affordable and from a brand that seems to know the market directions. 2- Helm. Jody Choice. That watch bracelet the appealing similar of the jubilee SKX bracelet. Waiting list to buy one 👎. 3- Orient is maturity. Orient is were watch lovers find "acceptance". 4- Seiko....I like them and I have some. 5- the rest. ....Hey Jody, have you check that CIGA Design watches .....recommend the square skeleton one.....lots of complements I get when wearing it.
