I think an AT vs a datejust or OP would be a more apt comparison since they look closer to each other and come in the same sizes, dial variance, etc. Great video non the less. The AT is a great sleeper watch. Love the first gen the most. Very elegant, very versatile, and 150m wr. They feel like money and can be had at a relative bargain
The Air King just looks like it doesn’t know what it wants to be. The high polish on the bezel and the case would suggest dressy, the bracelet and high polish numerals at 3, 6, and 9 would suggest sporty, but the other numerals (5 minute increments) would suggest a more aviation-styled field watch, which I think it’s supposed to be. However, like all field watches, a pilot’s watch is supposed to be easy to read quickly-think of IWC’s, Stowa’s, or Laco’s fleiglers-and the cluttered dial featuring the mismatched numerals on the Air King, along with a large logo and 5(!) lines of text on the dial make it anything but easy to read at a glance. There’s really no comparison imo, the AT is absolutely gorgeous and wins this one easily.
My Omega PO39.5 8800 is accurate to 0sec/day for the last daylight saving time (4months?). So so accurate!! I had the Omega AT8900 in blue and it was as accurate. The only thing I did not like a out it is the lume on the hands, where only the tip of the minute hand would be lumed.

I can echo your well worded statement on accuracy. My AT was on par with my 2010 Air-King - both running at less than a second fast per day, but over the course of a couple of weeks, the Omega managed to gain quite a few more than the AK. I picked up a Datejust last year and it was also running at less than a second fast/day and with consistency over a few weeks. I’ll throw my 2¢ in quickly: The best watch I own is my Aqua Terra. Versatile, highly water resistant, hugely anti-magnetic, accurate, dual anti-reflective coating, and amazing finishing. But, it’s sitting in its case 90% of the time in favor of the Datejust.
And to further comment.... I’m a fan of mildly quirky watches. I have a Tudor North Flag which I would compare on the same level as the Air King in the quirk department. Accuracy as new is right at the edge of COSC (-4 per day). I have hope that as it breaks in a bit it will improve.
Great comparison, Bruce! I love that Aqua Terra with the green dial! It really makes me start considering what’s in my collection... For two years now, I’ve had a Grand Seiko SBGE033 limited edition with a green sunburst dial. I love the color, but honestly, it’s difficult to get it to catch the light just right, and it looks black or nearly so in many lighting conditions. With that particular shade of green being my favorite color, I feel it leaves me wanting more, whereas in pictures online, it only appears in its most flattering light. In this video, the green on the AT seems to pop more, or at least be visible most of the time. Would you say that’s a fair statement? I bought the GS I have not only for the dial, but for the Spring Drive GMT movement, which is fantastic. But the fact that my GS also never came with a bracelet option when sold as new also leaves me feeling a bit gypped. The AT being available on a bracelet makes it look even more attractive in light of that. The GS certainly IS the more rare watch. Only 500 pieces worldwide, and they don’t pop up for sale very often. It took me about 2 years to track one down, whereas I could walk into any Omega boutique and get the AT. The hard-to-find aspect of the GS is another factor that really drew me to it, as most of my watches required a lot of time to track down. I enjoy the thrill of the hunt for sure. Sorry for the novel of a comment, but what do you think I should do? Keep the GS and call it a day even though the inability to see its color and lack of bracelet irk me, or replace it with a green AT? If I did that, I would also unfortunately be losing the GMT function of the GS, which is the only GMT in my collection. Anyway, thanks for the great content and hopefully sharing your opinion in this first-world problem of mine! 😉

I own a black dial 39mm version of the aqua terra and love it. It is so versatile, it is simple enough to look slightly dressy while still having an excellent in-house robust movement (that can be seen, mind you) with aggressive styling. Would not trade it for a rolex.
True, Rolex might be the accuracy winner. All watches need a running in time, like engines. If yr Omega start start fluctuating at a stable level, send them to adjust to whatever they vary n problem shud be solved.

The omega wins for me. I do agree the bracelet is much nicer on the rolex. But that omega face is just lovely, classic and stylish. I agree the rolex will hold it's value better but I'd still choose the omega. Great video Bruce, as always.
Absolutely excellent comparison Bruce! I will say though that after your full breakdown, I feel these two watches are not meant to target the same watch seeker. I can't help to feel inspired by the Sea by the Omega, and the open road or track by the Rolex. I know that's the obvious place they fit in their respective brand families, but its so obvious when you put them side by side. Since I'm not a one watch guy, the AirKing is a keeper, and the Aqua Terra is a great enjoy for a summer and flip for the next adventure. Thanks again Bruce!!
Great video. Which dial color is your choice by the AT Bruce? I like the black and blue although. Green maybe a bit difficult on rubber cause the color. Greets
Always liked both watches. The Rolex is the quirky one for sure but I like the green pops of colour and makes the explorer boring by comparison. However the hands down winner is the Omega, surprised it’s not as accurate as the Rolex with the coaxial movement though. Scores way up on versatility by been sporty and dressy all at once. Wearing the Air King with a suit would not be wrong, just not as right as the Omega. Then there is the open caseback the butterfly clasp (I much prefer) the colour options and the price, not to mention the anti-magnetic property’s. Hands up it won’t ever hold it’s money like the Rolex but then it does not make you a muggers target either! Both wonderful end of. 🤔
Hi Bruce, after watching your review, I have decided to buy the AT, however did not find a 38 or 39mm version, all other colour varients come with two size options??
Yes, not all colors are made in 38. And it also needs to be stated that the smaller version houses the smaller 8800 caliber which does not have the time zone feature
These were my final duo month ago. End up buying rolex second hand. More personality, so strange, might end up being future "why didn't I buy that when it was available"
Bruce, another great video, im really enjoying your channel recently. Have you considered the white dial aqua terra? I would say that woild be different enough from the air king to justify both!
Thank you for the awesome video, Bruce! My vote is for neither. The Air king IMHO has a beautiful shape and size, and LOVE the green highlights, but the clutter of numbers and lack of lume, great watch, but... And the Omega just one thing: unless I'm mistaken lists for MORE than the seamaster 300M. Sorry, quick hour and nice indices don't justify that. Both nice watches, but neither will be on my short list.
Great review! would love to see the new blue version, it’s very diffrent from the older blue models. Cannot find any review. I am gravitating towards the blue one. what many brands are missing is an on the fly adjusting clasp like the IWC pilot mark 18 bracelet. Have you seen what a ingenious but simple adjustable clasp it carries? You push the brand logo while wearing the watch and it adjusts in 1mm increments. For removing links it’s as fantastic. No screws or pins but outer link buttons you push and remove.... superb. This for me can be the diffrence between total convincing or be in doubt. Why can’t Omega create such an aftermarket clasp? I like my watches to fit well, I hate watches that have loose fit and swing on your wrist all time. It makes me want to take of the watch immediately. It’s something they seem to overlook. Many brands overengineer their watch, but underengineer the wearing aspect.
I agree regarding the precision. My Rolex Sub is still my most precise mechanical watch. The two Omegas I own(ed) with their Master Chronometer rating could not top that at all. They both are running 2-3 seconds fast per day. Even my Tudor Pelagos with their Inhouse movement doesn't come close to the Rolex - it is currently running 1-2 seconds slow per day. I also don't like the winding action at all of the current Omega movements. It's not only the problem with the calibre 8900 with the two barrels but also with the 8800 calibre with the single big barrel. Winding just doesn't feel as satisfying as it does on the Rolexes. Regarding finishing and dials I think Omega wins with most of their current offerings. I also think that the Rolex boxes just don't come close to the beautiful Omega boxes. They look cheap nowadays compared to other brands that stepped up their game during the time. At the end I would recommend Omega for the "one watch" guy because the prices are much lower than for a current Rolex steel model and you're getting pretty much the same standard of luxury if not even more.
Have both. They look so different. Since you already have the Rolex, you gotta take a look at the Aqua Terra. Get the one with the rubber bracelet. It's a stunning watch. If both were branded Omega or Rolex and you were made to choose, I think you'd choose the Rolex/Omega Aqua Terra.
AT 38.5MM current gen in blue is damn close to a perfect watch in my opinion. Been watch hunting for a while now, trying on different watches in this price category and I've pretty much settled on this model by now.
Put the Rolex strap on the Omega and wear the Omega. It's a better value. If the Rolex holds it's value better, it doesn't matter unless you are going to sell it. If you are doing too keep it, that doesn't matter. In the end you will die, and have to leave them all behind. So keep the one that gives you the most satisfying daily feeling.
Definitely the AT for me. I prefer its design over all the three hand no bezel Rolexes. Can't disagree regarding the bracelets, however we may be lucky enough to get a 2mm micro-adjustment on the Omega in the future, because they've included one on the recently updated Constellation, so hopefully that trickles over tp Omega's other butterfly clasps.
one feature never mentioned is the service interval. the omega movement should last 10 years before a service is required. my seamaster after a month of use as settled in at plus 2 -3 sec a day. never minus.
One thing to keep in mind is, while it's true, the Rolex will typically be more accurate with it's superlative +2 to -2 seconds per day, the Omega's Metas 0 to +5 seconds/day will NOT allow the watch to lose time, so typically setting the watch back to a reference time is much easier, as it simply requires hacking the seconds hand at the 12 o'clock position until the reference time catches back up. Where as the Rolex, you will need to to hack the seconds hand at 12, advance the minute hand by 1 minute, and then reset when the reference time advances. I do notice my Rolex submariner (-1 sec/day) is more accurate than my omega Speedmaster Racing (+2.2) seconds per day, but when correcting the watch back to my cell phones reference time, it's much easier.
No proof of that. The superlative is COSC certified but not open. You cant prove what Rolex says about its accuracy. And the fact that the last swiss prize of accuracy was given to Patak Philippe and ...Tissot in 2017.... shows that brilliantly.
In your close-up shots of the Omega, I noticed at least several specs of dust on the dial. That's a disappointment as the Omega is a nice looking watch.
I believe both can coexist. They are different enough. However, if you fall out of love with any of those, just sell that one. Like you always said, why should anyone care about anyone else's. However, I prefer AT
Greathings from Zurich, Switzerland. Tks to talked about the both sides antireflective saphir. Thats rare!!! I like Rolex watches, but I don't like 'fakes' clients of Rolex who made prices speculation. Thats sad. Rolex is a great brand, high quality standards. But if you compare with their direct competitor Omega is much more innovative and has for me a higher quality standard. Its easier to keep standard without risk in innovation. Thats why Rolex is for me a step behind. And here this Aquaterra model is just beating the Air-King which has for me not really a nice dial. The comaprison will be better with a Datejust. But even here Omega is ahead in term of class! Last but not least my favourite brand is Blancpain and their fifty fathoms. Thats THE watch for me. Or a Breguet type 21 mod3l 3817. Amazing
I have the Rolex Oyster Perpetual and the previous version of the Aqua Terra Spectre version (I don't have an Air King). The Aqua Terra is a little too think compared to the Oyster and the rolex has a better bracelet. The Oyster just edges over the Aqua Terra but I ma happy to have both.
Well i think rolex OP is a closer comparison to AT. I personally love explorer but gotta go for AK here. Btw, Co-axial is too gimmicky imo, not worth my spend.
I love this Omega. The way it reflects light is mesmerizing. You captured it really well Bruce. I'm considering buying the 38mm version. When you talk about discounts at ADs, how much are we typically talking about? Because I see new Aqua Terras online at 20% discount. Can you get such a significant discount from an AD. Thanks for your answer man 👍🏿
I was able to hold different Omega models like the SMPc, PO & AT in the hands. The Omega watches are cool but that’s how Bruce mentioned in the vid there are things that are cool but not at overall. I would go definitely with the Rolex Air King. The bracelet is really comfortable and the tapering of the bracelet let it wear super comfy! I think that the Rolex is much reliable than the Omega. But that is my own opinion.
Great job Bruce, if the Air King had better 3,6,9 Arabic’s would be a lot better! On the Omega, I would prefer a double pusher clasp instead of the butterfly! But both really nice time pieces!
I like the Milgaus because it is different and very nice looking along with its features, but as a watch fan I think more thought was put into the visual display of the Omega. I like the jumping hour and I prefer dates too. I like the numbers on the Rolex. But Omega is just more practical I think.
I like the Air King. When they run out of those Explorer Mk1 parts bin numerals and change the 3, 6, 9 to 15, 30, 45, it will rock. Comment on the movements is bang on, my Explorer and Tudor BB GMT are within a second a day. Omega SMP I used to own ran 4s fast. I think these co-axils aren’t better and are maybe worse than the ETAs they were modified from, more gimmick than value.
Look at the hulk.. 5 years ago no one wanted one, now they are selling for 5k over retail. I think the Air-king’s day will come. It’s different from all the rest no doubt.

You have seriously been doing a good job recently. So much new content. We are spoilt !
Thank you! More content on the way
Love em both . Great comparison Bruce
Should have compared the oyster perpetual?
I love the AT. My only wish would be that it had a tapered bracelet. Otherwise, a clear win here with Omega.
I though he said it goes from 20 mm to 18 mm at the clasp.
There is a 2mm taper on it. Much less pronounced than the 4mm taper of the Rolex
Why does the ats green dial look different on some videos
Greets
My favorite is the light slate blue with the turquiose seconds hand. That is the one I am ordering when I pull the trigger
I have this feeling: Rolex AirKing is 90s (past); Aqua is 2021 (nowadays)
Green only comes in 41mm afaik👍
Yes, not all colors are made in 38. And it also needs to be stated that the smaller version houses the smaller 8800 caliber which does not have the time zone feature
These were my final duo month ago. End up buying rolex second hand. More personality, so strange, might end up being future "why didn't I buy that when it was available"
I think many will be saying that in future years
Bruce, another great video, im really enjoying your channel recently.
Bloodhound, every time, anytime .
Yes, it is fantastic. GO was the first brand to do this, it is really ingenious
Love the vid Bruce, I've been wondering how these two stack up!
We think similarly man :) Love your comments
I think the date just would have been the right comparison
What kind of discounts are you looking at with Omega?
Y have they stopped doing the day on the omega?
Nice review and comparison!!!
Muito obrigado por sua análise !
I’ve been considering the Ryder Cup edition of the Aqua Terra but that green dial is intriguing. Dammit Bruce!
Very informative!!! Cheers!
I've got the Rolex Explorer 214270 and I'm after the AT blue dial. I think they will complement each other really well.
absolutely no issues with my seamaster... odd to see that it gains so much for you
Same with my 1998 SMP. Serviced only once, it’s never missed a beat in its 22 years.
My Railmaster gets better than his Rolex accuracy after six months. He’s got a clunker
one feature never mentioned is the service interval. the omega movement should last 10 years before a service is required. my seamaster after a month of use as settled in at plus 2 -3 sec a day. never minus.
Both have 5 year warranties and will likely go around the same time between servicing
As I am watching this I struck by how much I like Omega...but this video got me thinking - How would a GS compare with these two?
I'll have a snowflake in later in the week so I think a comparison with a Rolex and Omega is in order
@@BruceWilliams Awesome - Thank you Bruce 😊👍
That Aqua terra is amazing, just wish it came with a solid caseback.
AT for me! Thx Bruce - nice comparison!
O.O... how does the Airking win the lume battle? Only the 12 o'clock marker and hands are lumed. How do you even read the time?
In your close-up shots of the Omega, I noticed at least several specs of dust on the dial. That's a disappointment as the Omega is a nice looking watch.
I love the Aqua Terra. It looks so beautiful.
Amazing
"its a dog" "its the red headed stepchild" all red heads and all step children left the chat.
Thanks for your answer man 👍🏿
Be very happy to get 20 at a AD if anything, but then you have sales tax. With online slot of states you won't have to pay tax.
I really enjoy the Air King
The numbers around the dial on the AK make it look like a Hamilton pilot watch to me.
A comment about the jumping hour....good for travel but a pain when you rotate your watches and need to set the date
Agreed. I don't let my watches go to no power so I've never had to change the date by 14 days
That’s interesting....I imagine you have a good number of watches. So do you use winders?
@@edwardblack7133 No I actually have a pretty small collection. I get stressed with a large collection so I am down to 5 mechanical peices
Bruce, if you could only choose one, which would it be?
Probably the AK. It was my first love
Look at the hulk.. 5 years ago no one wanted one, now they are selling for 5k over retail. I think the Air-king’s day will come. It’s different from all the rest no doubt.
I think a date just would be a better comparison with the Omega AT.
I have a gift voucher to use at Ernest Jones in the UK and I've been wrestling with what to use it on but I think I'm going to go for the Omega
