The thing with Armstrong, i think, his cause is a noble one, his view of the world is a little regressed as its just "survival of the fittest", and despite his noble cause, he was forcing his ideals and causes onto everyone in the US (even the world maybe) WITHOUT THEIR consent, and THAT is what makes him the villain. Peace can only come from a collective agreement, never a single source
The dreamy peace we all fantasize about honestly sounds pretty impossible. It's only us working and working to create a better world, a better community, or a better house, never a perfect one. It's kinda deep-rooted a bit, in a way. He didn't have a noble cause, he just fought for it viciously and sincerely. He believed in his cause. It isn't only about forcing his ideals, for Raiden himself has done the same thing, by breaking the law, by "rescuing" the kids held in the VR programs, and so on. We still believe that Raiden's more righteous than Armstrong, though. I mean, there are staple points; he did save children from complete self-manipulation, however, he killed and killed nonetheless. Armstrong's world view prioritizes genuine want, instinct, and power, however, not convenience, morality, fairness, freedom, or anything. It deems a certain group all-powerful while letting all others crumble beneath their feet. Power, even physical or personal, isn't always attained fairly, and so unfair advantages arise. If we apply that to the world Armstrong wants to bring about, you being able to live longer, or live at all, would be decided based on something you don't even have control of. Sure, our world is also very unfair, but that unfair gap decides life or death in lesser cases, as it mainly operates on the bounds of convenience, way of life, and opportunities.
It is possible to achieve peace from a single source: Say, a man has somehow killed everyone on earth except for himself. He has made his peace with the loneliness and his actions. He, the entirety of mankind, is therefore at peace from a single source.
59:00 This is such a menacing moment to watch, the choreography here is so PERFECT. The way Jack walks is so intimidating and I fear it. And that face expression, too.. that’s “The Rippa” awakening in him
I still wanna know what Raiden did between mgs 2 and 4. What lead him to get Cybernetic implants, how did he find Sunny, who was the bad guy in all that. WE WANT ANSWERS DAMMIT
+Jayman493 Basically he tried to settle down with Rose but because of his childhood he ended up becoming a drunk and left her, wandered around a while and ended up in Alaska doing survivalist stuff. After he cleaned up and rescued Sunny he went on a mission to retrieve Big Boss's remains and got captured by The Patriots. They used him to do their cybernetic experiments on, all that is left of his body is his head (minus the lower jaw) and spine. The Army of Paradise Lost eventually helped him escape and shortly there after is when MGS4 takes place. After MGS4 he tries to settle down with Rose and their son (from before when he still had his junk) but ends up back in the military circle because no one will accept cyborgs in normal society. He meets back up with Boris and joins his private security detail, and that's where this game picks up.
+Jayman493 Oh and Sunny was being held captive at Area 51 by said Patriots. It was during the same rescue mission to get Sunny that he tried, and failed, to retrieve Big Boss's remains and was captured.
You know, I've played this game countless times over the years, and I only just noticed Raiden gets slightly startled when Sunny ignores the countdown.

I almost agreed with President Armstrong's method, but yes, he is insane. In the end, all that really matters is that we try and make the world and humanity better than destroy it.
The Sears Program named after and created by ex-president George Sears aka Solidus Snake. But imagine if combined with the "Les Enfants Terrible" Project with Nanomachines Cyborg bodies and Skull Parasites by using the DNA of Big Boss, Venom Snake, Solid Snake and Raiden or the enemies they fought in the past (like Psycho Mantis, Vulcan Raven, Sniper Wolf, Vamp, Gray Fox, The Cobra unit etc) an army of Cloned Cyborg Mercenaries mass produced. Only of course they would fight for good instead of evil and injustice. To form a New Philanthropy / FOXHOUND, both an Anti-Terrorism and Anti- Metal Gear Organization. I would have the Sears Program modified for the clones to under go VR missions of the great missions from the Metal Gear Solid series, Virtuous Mission, Operation Snake Eater, Outer Heaven, Zanzibarland, Shadow Moses, Tanker, Big Shell, and so on. Trained to undergo Advance Stealth Missions and Weapons Training. That would be The ULTIMATE WEAPON TO SURPASS METAL GEAR!
I wish Mortal Kombat would feature this Cyborg Raiden as a guest character. His fatalities, His intro dialogue with characters such as Jax, Sektor, Cyrax, Raiden(Thunder God) would be awesome.
"Sometimes the threat of violence alone is a deterrent. Sometimes by taking a life, others can be preserved. "It's the code the samurai lived by..." And something Raiden continues to hold near and dear to his heart. The fact even after all that's happened, he still sees hope for humanity... shows you the type of person he is. Like, damn. Man never gives up.
i noticed that Raidens voice is Sturdier and more responsible like when he's not "violent" or in the mood to kill EVERYTHING and EVERYONE who gets in his way, when he is in his "jack the ripper" persona his voice is more ghoulish and "childlike?" kind of care free and deranged
As much as i love the english script, i think the japanese version has a better one. It’s more serious and doesn’t include jokes. But that’s what makes the english script unique, in japanese version chapter R-02 car cutscene wolf doesn’t try “word play” with raiden, instead he is grateful that raiden took him in so he could have his own freedom. I just think wolf was better in japanese imo.
And that's interesting how they made that senator sound like he's crazy. He had a great concept, but he ruined it with the whole "purging the weak" thing. Anyway, again awesome storyline.
Armstrong seemed to admire the Hobsian Law of Nature; essentially all living beings are free to do as they please in a lawless land. One's own strength is all that matters
I love how armstrong was so willing to let Jack into the fold as soon as it sounded like he wasn't going to oppose him
The part I laugh at is when Armstrong goes along with the hug and pats Raiden on the back. It’s a humorous yet awfully weird and sweet moment.
He realized his and Raiden's ideals weren't so far off. Heck even after his death, Raiden slowly realized Armstrong's words made sense...

Don’t worry, I’m with you; Jack’s a looker.

What lead him to get Cybernetic implants, how did he find Sunny, who was the bad guy in all that.
WE WANT ANSWERS DAMMIT
***** that's what I'm saying

Memes are ideals. Things, ideas you pass along, which you hold and preserve.

You're missing the cutscene where, if you parry sundowner's explosive charge, you chop of the shields. If you chop them all off, he goes into scissor blade mode and picks up poles on the edge of the helipad.
Armstrong didn’t just accept Jack when he thought he was on his side. He immediately dusted him off, shook his hand, and fucking hugged him. Armstrong’s evil and insane, even if his intentions are “good” but he does have respect for those with a common interest.

"Sometimes the threat of violence alone is a deterrent. Sometimes by taking a life, others can be preserved.

And something Raiden continues to hold near and dear to his heart. The fact even after all that's happened, he still sees hope for humanity... shows you the type of person he is. Like, damn. Man never gives up.
My favorite line is when mistral said "but i butchered those fuckers"
I nominate Raiden to become an Avenger. :)

Deeeeepp, especially the scenes right before it leads up to fighting Monsoon. "Shhhh"💯
@The Phantom Well, I said they _dropped_ the pills... not took 'em.
It's hard to imagine that Senator Armstrong would turn out to be a compelling villain.
Such a kind and respectful gesture at 2:00:00 where Raiden swipes the blood from Sam's blade just before he sheathes it.
Damn it’s very hard not seeing his voice with axel, still love his voice in this game
And that's interesting how they made that senator sound like he's crazy. He had a great concept, but he ruined it with the whole "purging the weak" thing. Anyway, again awesome storyline.
I'm not defending the prez
But I think that Armstrong had an utterly diffrent definition of the weak.
Armstrong seemed to admire the Hobsian Law of Nature; essentially all living beings are free to do as they please in a lawless land. One's own strength is all that matters
