Seeing an authentic un-spoiled reaction to Armstrong is amazing, especially with how memed the game and him in particular have been. That shit was mindblowing back in 2013.
Yeah I remember I NEVER expected Armstrong to be an actual boss, from the moment I saw him I figured he would be some behind the scenes plotter that gets killed in one shot. xD The reason he leaves such an impression on people is because of how much he subverts expectations. The fact he almost always humbles people with a proper ass whopping doesn't hurt either.
jup, I was stuck on him for a while. Didn't help that when I was good enough the Quick time event at the end was broken by a bug that made it impossible to actually do it in the given time due to a framerate bug.
Beat the guy a few hours ago without any extra lives on the first phase and YEAH.... he really tests your skills, if you have somehow cheesed the game even through Sam, Armstrong will be the most abrupt wake up call
I have no idea how Kev got through the game without bothering to learn how to aim the blade mode. That caused problems for him during the boss fight with the guy that used the shields, which should have been a clue that there was a major game mechanic he was ignoring.
Just for an explanation. Monsoon is using the term "meme" in the proper, *educated* way. The internet definition is a glorified bastardization of "memetic device" which essentially is a trait passed along without the use of genes or genetics. They actually rhyme, funnily enough. This game is so memorable because people associate "meme" with stupid internet jokes and that makes Monsoon simultaneously sound hilarious while also probably being smarter than most people on Twitter who listen to the cutscene out of context.
Memetics is a wacky field. The idea that concepts are subject to the natural forces of evolution just as much as living organisms are is a really intriguing thought. Concepts and ideologies change to better accommodate a wider audience, and people will adapt them to their culture, spreading the ideas further. However, the "memetic device" is an entirely fictional concept. There is not any type of object that forces an idea on you simply by observing it. In fact, I'm pretty sure memetic devices were conceptualized by the horror writers over on the SCP website. That would make sense as they also came up with the anti-meme, something that forces you to forget.
As always, Armstrong is only in the game for 10 minutes, yet he takes up a larger percentage of the video than any other boss. No, this is not a criticism, nor a complaint.
Fun facts: 1. 17:45 the best part is that those sombreros are , while actually used as an acessory at parties , these types of sombreros are also often sold to tourists who don't know any better The idea of Raiden trying to "blend in" only to get absolutely SCAMMED is PRICELESS 2. Not only did Sam not have any cybernetic engancements aside from his arm, but its implied that his cybernetic arm was acrively hampering him as he just couldn't get used to it (unlike most of the bosses who have likely been cyborgs for years if not decades) 3. The symbolism of the final battle, while obvious, is pretty well done Raiden spent the whole game cutting through everyone, dismantling their respective ideoligies But when he gets to Armstrong, he's met with a metaphorical and literal brick wall Its only when he adopts Sam's philosophy and incorporates a part of Armstrong's that he finally wins
I mean, Sam can only compete with Raiden because of his exoskeleton. He's definitely at a disadvantage with the arm but he's still leagues above his regular self without the suit. He goes from beating a squad of gunman with a sword to beating Metal Gear Rays.
One way I heard about how Armstrong and raidens conversation go is “they are both wrong here” When I find the video that does a better job of actually explaining that I’ll post it here

For a game as silly as this, there's a lot of genuinely good writing in here Like damn. Platinum didnt have to go this hard on a 'throwaway' spin-off game, but im sooo glad they did
I honestly think that makes the writing even better, when they can still make solid points even philosophically-wise but also being able to just make a totally fun game with witty and self aware writing. Most impressive thing is Raiden still feels like a "dark" character given his past but he doesnt even feel out of place in this game
Maybe Platinum heard 'throwaway' and was like, ""So, you mean we can do *_whatever we want?"_* And for an explanation for "whatever we want" please see the rest of their repertoire lmao
@Josh Josh there is a difference tho. when people say dont put politics into games its because a game company only puts 1 side of the political isle in the game, then condemns the other and makes out their politics is the correct one even if it is flawed. and im not on about obvious stuff like nazis on wolfenstein or terrorists blowing up people etc im on about stuff we actually argue on in real life and dont have clear right answers. in mgr tho it takes 2 different sides of an argument both still based on a form of fiction and not something that would happen in real life (not to that extent at least) and humanises BOTH of them and doesnt make a clear winner as it is debated that armstrong actually had some points especially towards raidens attitude to killing for "justice" when really he gets a lot of pleasure from the actual act himself and is killing for his ideals but at the same time so are they. but raiden has a point because those who cant fight will perish in armstrongs world and wouldnt even stand a chance in the first place. but again armstrong makes the point that raiden went through the exact same thing and became stronger for it. see how in just 1 small conversation if you really consider everything the game and its characters and songs are trying to present you can not only understand both arguments but people have sparked actual healthy debates about both sides and there are people who disagree with armstrong but appreciate his character and even like him or maybe better word is respect him and there are people who disagree with raiden but they again like him and respect him. its even the theme of the end battle that both characters have this mutual understanding and respect for each others principles and the fact they would die for them. its not about money or fame or power its about actually trying to change the world for what they believe is the best and they will give their own lives to achieve it. but in most games as mentioned above its either "republicans bad and evil we are correct only us" or "democrats bad and evil we are correct only us" which is just pathetic and wrong and i dont like being forced to agree with something in a video game that is basing itself on real world events.

"Is there a dodge ability." Yes, and funny enough (from what I've noticed), lot of players of this game don't even know about its existence. Mainly because it is hidden behind purshasable skill for your sword. If I recall correctly (it's been a long time since I played this), it is the very first skill to purchase. That skill will allow you to actually evade attacks and even get yourself on lot of Senator's attacks, which will also make him far easier to fight than just using parry and running/jumping like headless chicken to evade him.
I loved all the "stealth time", and then "nope, I fucked it up" moments. If all your playthroughs of games are this chaotic and funny, I might just have to go watch them all.

I'm glad to see that Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance is undergoing a Metal Gear Rising Resurgence of popularity. When the game first game out I was sadly one of those MGS fans that dismissed it because of how different it was but a few years later I picked it up and to this day its easily one of my favorite games of all time. It's just pure fun, and the sound track is so stupidly good! Also, easily some of my favorite boss fights in gaming, just so freaking good overall and the DLC is totally worth!! It be awesome if you made a vid playing the DLCs!
Weirdly enough imo it manages to have self aware goofy writing genuinely cool lines and some actual deep writing concerning morality and the benefits of war and when they talk about memes they mean information genetically passed down from bloodline and spread its a pretty complicated term that im not smart enough to give the actual textbook definition of but it makes some of the commentary actually interesting
It hurts me when nowadays whenever someone hears of "memes" they instantly assume Amogus or Facebook Minion images. Also Offensive Defense (X+A) is critical in the Armstrong fights, gives invulnerability frames on the dodge I saw it used once at 26:03 but apparently it was a button mash fluke. I went the whole game until the Armstrong fight without buying it and felt like an absolute moron for it.
Ah yeah for comboing the harder to kill enemies like the UGs offensive defense is great to get to the point where you can stun then execute them. For bosses it depends. I love using it on Sams Iai slashes but otherwise it's a case by case thing.
With the amazing music and cues during the boss fights, I'm surprised Kev didn't pick up on the music literally losing its lyrics when Sam loses his sword and they return when he picks it up again
You’re right that back in 2013 MGR was overshadowed a lot by the games that you mentioned. It had criticisms back then due to massive shift from the usual Tactical Espionage Action from the previous MGS games but this game is ridiculously fun. I’m glad that this game is now getting attention and love 9 years later but the memes from this game is eternal.
I know why MGR has been everywhere. someone summarized the story incorrectly, and as these things go, you get a lot of people crawling out of the woodwork to correct him

If I had a nickel for every time someone referred to Raidens body as a Gamer Mouse, I'd have two nickels... Which isn't a lot, but it's weird it happened twice.
“What is the stupid tutorial going to teach me?” Well at least he won’t go through most of the game until he gets to Monsoon and be like “Wait, YOU CAN PARRY?!” Also free fun fact each bosses’ music actually reveals some of their backstory and reasons if you look into the lyrics
I want a video of him redoing the Sundowner fight properly. I don't care if it's like 3 minutes long, you can't just skip the best song in the entire game.
Had this game sitting in my steam library for ages and finally decided to play it after this video came out. It's the first game in years that I've beaten in one sitting, it's just that good.
Up until I stopped playing because my HDD died, these fricking monke bots were my nemesis, no other enemy gave my such a hardtime (other than the shield transformer you face later in the mission, but that was only one prime specimen of that line, the others were somewhat easy), I stopped before I even fought the bosses clones before Sundowner.
To pass Armstrong I put on the medical armor, because it gives you 10 electrolyte replenisher with helps with the health problem, you used it throughout the hole game so just use it again (you can equip it in the menu)

Seeing an authentic un-spoiled reaction to Armstrong is amazing, especially with how memed the game and him in particular have been. That shit was mindblowing back in 2013.
Yeah I remember I NEVER expected Armstrong to be an actual boss, from the moment I saw him I figured he would be some behind the scenes plotter that gets killed in one shot. xD
The reason he leaves such an impression on people is because of how much he subverts expectations. The fact he almost always humbles people with a proper ass whopping doesn't hurt either.

Love how Raiden still has a sense of humor when fighting Monsoon.
Monsoon: "You're dead!"
Raiden: "Dead on!"

Fun facts:
1. 17:45 the best part is that those sombreros are , while actually used as an acessory at parties , these types of sombreros are also often sold to tourists who don't know any better
The idea of Raiden trying to "blend in" only to get absolutely SCAMMED is PRICELESS
2. Not only did Sam not have any cybernetic engancements aside from his arm, but its implied that his cybernetic arm was acrively hampering him as he just couldn't get used to it (unlike most of the bosses who have likely been cyborgs for years if not decades)
3. The symbolism of the final battle, while obvious, is pretty well done
Raiden spent the whole game cutting through everyone, dismantling their respective ideoligies
But when he gets to Armstrong, he's met with a metaphorical and literal brick wall
Its only when he adopts Sam's philosophy and incorporates a part of Armstrong's that he finally wins

For a game as silly as this, there's a lot of genuinely good writing in here
Like damn.
Maybe Platinum heard 'throwaway' and was like, ""So, you mean we can do *_whatever we want?"_*
And for an explanation for "whatever we want" please see the rest of their repertoire lmao
@@_zealos_8213 Honestly, them being given ultimate freedom is genuinely a great thing
I wish it happened more often
This is proof that Metal Gear can still be good without Kojima if the right people are involved.

Don’t feel bad I had it the whole time but didn’t use it until Armstrong,on the Sam dlc
With the amazing music and cues during the boss fights, I'm surprised Kev didn't pick up on the music literally losing its lyrics when Sam loses his sword and they return when he picks it up again
When monsoon talks about "memes", he's referring to the technical definition; concepts that spread through social interaction.
I know why MGR has been everywhere. someone summarized the story incorrectly, and as these things go, you get a lot of people crawling out of the woodwork to correct him
Ah a fellow John doom fan aka Maxor
A lot of people try to summarize the lore for a Metal Gear game. They are bound to be corrected.
Funny how kev accidentally repeated maxor's gamer mouse and gatorade jokes
Edit:he repeated more than that. I would have said that maxor used his footage if this video came out before the incorrect summary
@@Valysion The fact that kev went un spoiled in the story and still made the same jokes, makes Max0r's incorrect summary; more accurate.
@@mirageknight8070 how the fuck did that happen?
If I had a nickel for every time someone referred to Raidens body as a Gamer Mouse, I'd have two nickels...
Which isn't a lot, but it's weird it happened twice.
Or referred to the enemies life force as gatorade, or spinning when the elevator was falling
Or referred to Mistral as a twitch streamer
All of these are strangely common
Well it was in Max0r video about Metal Gear Rising.
This game 100% makes you feel like a complete badass
"I'll have you guys know... I played the tutorial... ON HARD DIFFICULTY" had me rolling😂
“What is the stupid tutorial going to teach me?”
Well at least he won’t go through most of the game until he gets to Monsoon and be like “Wait, YOU CAN PARRY?!”
Also free fun fact each bosses’ music actually reveals some of their backstory and reasons if you look into the lyrics
Ah, I remember when i met monsoon without parrying, i was like, wtff its impossible, and i think every player who skipped the tutorial were like that
I want a video of him redoing the Sundowner fight properly. I don't care if it's like 3 minutes long, you can't just skip the best song in the entire game.
Had this game sitting in my steam library for ages and finally decided to play it after this video came out. It's the first game in years that I've beaten in one sitting, it's just that good.
20:08 in fact: you can. The entire game except bosses is playable without being spottet once, just oneshotting enemies from behind and above
This video allowed me to relieve my emotions from when i was playing the game for the first time
I love this game so much, great video too
hey thank you!
First of all congratulations on the 700K subscribers! Also I remember playing this game like crazy back in high school! I felt like samurai Jack just slicing every machine that got in my way lol 😆. Oh and Kevduit I recommend one game for your channel. “Lord of the Rings conquest”. It’s like battlefront 2 but with lord of the rings characters. It’s not perfect but it’s pretty fun 👍🏼😎
Kev:"I'm gonna parry you so hard it's gonna be embarrassing."
Sam:"for you that is."
32:00 this dialogue bit "Stop! Stop it!" means he actually did good against monsoon. very neat.
standing here, I stood there now, you stood here to, and then we all stood still, who’s the judge, us standing tall, when our feet are flat, I think we’ll both agree, standing is tiring, but in the end, we had to stand again!!!!
There is a dodge ability, but you have to buy it. And it's a must buy, it gives you invincible frames
Edit: Okay he actually bought it later lmao
Edit2: Welp, he never used it in the senator fight anyway. RIP.
I’m not even 2 minutes in and its very awesome, love the content kev. Keep up the banger content man
top 10 best threats in history: "I played the tutorial, in hard mode"
Senator Armstrong to Kevduit:
I wonder who they will get to replace you, ANYONE!
I’m genuinely impressed on how he didn’t even rage once during the final boss fight
9 years later. This game is still a classic.
Oh hey, it's you!
I remembered the times when I too thought Armstrong is just little politician with a robot and gonna start begging for mercy when I'm done with his toy, boy I'm so wrong.
"This sounds like STARSET in the background right here-" Kev listens to STARSET??? Instant cool points. Also, I'm glad to see that you enjoyed MGRR!
that's what i'm saying bro, i deadass paused for a second and had to do a double-take
Persona pfp and listens to STARSET? 😎🤝 And I did a double-take too! I was like "did he actually just say that or am I hearing things??" It honestly made my whole day to find out that he listens to them too
Honestly I think this game need a sequel. It’s amazing
"man, there's a lot of calls in this game" meanwhile optional codec calls at over 6 hours length in total
Man this game is such an under rated masterpiece
Couldn't call it underrated, but really needs to be called one of the greatest video games of all time.
