    Honestly the best review on the two phones I've seen yet. Most reviewers nowadays give their reviews and speak about the phones without actually giving a solid answer and solid advice at the end. They're helpful at telling us the specs but their conclusions are always open ended and it's as if its just another phone in their cupboard. You actually tell us that you wouldn't buy the Ultra, and why we shouldn't - as if they're the £1000 investment they are. I was undecided on the two because although 100x is unusable, the 10x and maybe even 30x are useful on the Ultra, the focus and the depth of field issues are more important and bigger flaws than the perks of the Ultra, and you showed me that.
    I'm still favouring the 20+ over the iPhone however as the 120Hz , fingerprint censor and smaller bezels are more useful to me than the slightly better camera reliability. And I still believe the camera is better on the 20+ than the Oneplus 8 Pro too.
    Thanks for the video.

      you may want to use gcam,for what it's for,but as for customs roms,a third party application is never as optimized as stock.

    Got my s20+ last week, i'm absolutely loving it, considering It was a massive upgrade for me going from the old S8 it's not that much of a surprise that I'd be happy with my new purchase, though what I mostly fell in love with was the 120hz refresh rate, and the camera quality. Very informative review. I was planning to upgrade from an S7 to either s20+ or ultra, so looks like either way am in for a treat. Had thought to splash out on the ultra just because, but now not so sure based on this review and other, less indepth reviews which drew the same conclusion. Size wise may be quite a jump from an older s7 handset to a device as large as the ultra... plenty of food for thought.

    I just switched from iPhone. I was an iPhone fanboy since 2011. I just got tired of the same phone coming out every year. But that's anothet conversation. I picked up the s20+, and overall I love it! I find it a little quirky at times and a few things aren't as smooth as iOS, but I find the experience much more enjoyable and personalized. My biggest complaint is there is no external volume switch to switch from silent to loud, and as great as these cameras are I still feel like the iPhone cameras might be a little better. I'm disappointed because that was one of the reasons I wanted to switch. I thought the galaxy line was supposed to be second to only the pixel. But it's still a great camera. I am coming from an iPhone XS Max so I'm a couple years behind on tech, but so far for an iPhone user, I have really enjoyed the switch. There are some things that need getting used to though. iOS has just mastered the user experience and overall is a much more refined OS, but it's too restrictive and boring. I may go back after this s20+, but for now, it's been an AWESOME experience!

      It's funny since I'm actually probably doing the reverse. I've always been an android person besides having the iphone 4s. I really miss the iphones app polish as well as I like to play phone games and sometimes they just really lag and slow down in comparison to my experience with ios.
      I currently have the Note 9 and been debating between getting the Iphone 12 in october or getting the S20/s20+/s..30? next year. Samsung has by far been my most polished and well rounded android experience. I'd consider the pixel 5 if it's any good and worth it. However, it just seems to me it's better to wait until october before deciding and not just getting the s20/+ now.
      The s20+ just seems too large for me since it's one of my gripes with the Note 9. Besides that, I really love the personalization and what I can do. I added one hand operation + , great feature and I'm OCD with my organizing so I customize with Nova launcher. Which could kind've defeat the purpose of owning a pixel since it's purpose is to be a great stock phone and getting the features sooner. Then I have a reader app that i can't get on ios and a game emulator, so It's tilting me more towards sticking with android, I just wish I could use the apple watch and airpods since those to me are really great accessories that I'd love to try.

    One of more sensible comparative reviews of S20+ and S20 Ultra, on TH-cam. I have just bought S20+ (directly from Samsung), based on brief use of friends S20, S10+ and P30 Pro. Whilst P30 Pro had superior camera specification, the Huawei firmware tends to over-compensate exposures in normal light conditions .... and I don't usually use phone, to take shots in poor light conditions, or for telephoto shots. I have full frame camera for that. Considering the phone for phone sake, with capability of taking "reasonable" camera shots on the go ... as the bonus, S20+ seemed the best option here. With the memory card slot, 12 GB Ram on board and higher spec 5G, the only drawback as I see it, is Samsung's use of Exynos 990 chipset (in UK), instead of Snapdragon 865.

    • @insidetechltd
      @insidetechltd  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you. Yes the Exynos chip is disappointing. The gap between the 990 and SD 865 is particularly large this year - especially with power efficiency. It's not so bad that it makes the phone unusable though

    But I have also noticed the camera isn't that great. I take a lot of close pictures of receipts for business expenses, and they're all much less sharp than the pics from my previous S10+, some are even blurry. Also, i've noticed that at 120Hz, my google news feed in the Lawnchair launcher tends to freeze and lock up the phone after about 20 seconds of scrolling and reading. It doesn't happen at 60hz.

    Getting here few years later. Looking to upgrade from S9+ to an S20 (want to keep sd card option for few more years) given the prices are so much reduced now. The S20 ultra, S20 plus, S20 fe 5g are all broadly the same price, especially looking at refurbished ones (~£350-400) - which is best to go for now in 2022? Have the camera issues been fixed now after few years of updates?

I am not sure if this can be fixed! I wish Samsung makes it. One key interesting point: when I take pics of words with the very small font( like the small manual in the phone box), image is always blurred. The front-facing camera takes with great focus. Your content is awesome, but around 16:00 you mention that the 108MP mode on the S20 Ultra has shallower depth of field than the 12MP.. Depth of field is a result of the ratio between the physical size of the sensor and the aperture (f-stop).. Since both the 108MP and 12MP mode are using the entire surface area of the sensor they have the exact same depth of field.. The difference is just digital sharpening..

    • @insidetechltd
      @insidetechltd  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you consider depth of field as the perceived depth of field in the resulting photos, then it's a lot easier to compare the images side by side - as I have done in the video. You're right about sharpening, this is due to Pixel binning. But the blurred background results from depth of field (you wouldn't see this in a 108 MP photo for distant subjects) so I have simply used this to describe the difference in the appearance of the two images to help explain the difference you can expect in 108 MP vs 12 MP photos

    • @mjschabow
      @mjschabow 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yep. I think if you go with the Ultra, there's a little bit if training, or retraining involved. I was talking to someone yesterday who had great luck in just backing up a bit (like 1-2 ft) when taking photos. It's definitely not a point and shoot out of the box but it's definitely capable of being a great camera. I also noticed that Single Take solves a lot of problems with blurred moving objects.

    • @insidetechltd
      @insidetechltd  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      For sure, you can learn to take better photos. Also 'Pro' mode can really, really help - it's just a little daunting for the average consumer who wants to point and shoot. But then again...why are you paying $1400 for a smartphone if not to make use of all of it's features!

    • @mjschabow
      @mjschabow 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@insidetechltd exactly. And that's Samsung in general. The anti Apple "It just works" motto. Samsungs are all about tweaking. That's why I keep a Pixel too. If I'm in the mood to snap a bunch of pictures, mainly faces, then I'm putting my sim in that phone. Nature walks, I'll use the Ultra.

I enjoy being on the edge of technology but maybe it just doesn't make sense to do this anymore. the 100x zoom is completely useless. and to be honest the 108mp is in most cases as well, the focus has such a small window that i struggle to take pictures with the object not partly blurred.

      It's great with no charge I have around 6 and have hours with the screen on, and I actually watch lots of TH-cam videos and play casual games on dayli basis so I think it's great but, you know it depends of each user.

    Since it 's been about two months since this review, have the camera issues been addressed via software updates, especially for the S20 Ultra?

    • @insidetechltd
      @insidetechltd  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You'll get different answers depending on who you ask really. Some say all issues are now fixed, some initially had fixes and now it's worse, for others nothing has changed at all and some have even said it's worse now than before. For me i'm still getting issues - but you can't fix a hardware issue through software, sadly!

      @@insidetechltd Thanks so much for your reply. Yours is the best, most honest review I've found out of all S20 model reviews. Looks like I will be going with the S20+. I know what you mean by hardware issues--I've had my fair share of them with computer hardware (the most recent being an ASUS motherboard).

      InsideTech what would be you model of choice for android based if money is not a question? I feel a bit stupid, but Pixel seems a bit “cheap” for a premium device, in terms of actually price. I’d love to see Pixel PRO or similar. Am I too spoiled? I am currently on iPhone X but have been looking to leave Apple for a while, tried samsung last year and the OS was horrible and unstable. But then friend told me that Pixel OS is different, because it’s raw android without all those samsung extras that he also hated.

    • @insidetechltd
      @insidetechltd  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Really good question actually. Honestly, with so many android devices on the market, i'm constantly changing mine throughout the year (especially as I test and review). I've actually really enjoyed having a Pixel 4 as my android device, and yes, 'raw' android OS on the Pixel is my favourite - but using an iPhone too means that the Pixel's battery wasn't much of an issue, I think it would be if you use just one phone. My current favourite android device is probably the S20+ though - I just love the display. I know what you mean about the Pixel. When you take away the camera, it doesn't quite seem in the same tier as something like an S20+.

    • @Vladlabs

      InsideTech yeah exactly, and I will give S20+ another try then. Battery doesnt bother me, and I work from home and can also buy battery case, as these devices are too thin anyways :) I dint get how your channel has so little followership🤷🏻‍♂️ It deserves much more. By video quality alone.

      Forget oneplus, i had oneplus 5. When u have 1000 snaps in ur snapchat history it takes several minutes for oneplus to open them but samsung and iPhone open these instantly. And this oneplus 8 pro is so expensive as well while it has the same specs as s20+ has. S20 + is the Best in 2020 for 100 reasons and oneplus 8 pro is the second one in my list. Wish u luck with ur choise
