Exactly what I was thinking! Actually, another idea ...... you could personally get one of those tracking cubes from Amazon, and tape it under the driver's seat. Then, if someone does steal the truck, you at least got that to help law enforcement find it. Sadly, there's no incentive for uhaul to invest in trackers. Maybe uhaul gets a nice kickback from insurance companies for all we know.

Watch this turn out to be some organized crime ring operating outside of UHaul itself -- where a group of UHaul employees are informing the thieves when and where the big moving trucks are rented. That would be crazy.
Last year my dad got pulled over by about 5 cops and they drew their guns at him because there were reports of a stolen U-Haul truck. The cops found that he wasn't stealing it (we were returning it and my mom and I were driving in front of him in HIS car) but when we went to return it, we told them what happened and all they did was offer $15 off the bill. Thieves and low live's alike hate spending to much time tampering with a vehicle, their chances increase of getting caught when doing so. Trust me, they won't be taking my truck while I'm asleep unless they have a huge Tow Truck. Also UHaul should be held responsible to some degree. They know people put their live savings into these trucks and theft is possible. They should have Anti theft devices installed and gps, as well as a self Monitoring system that tells you your truck is moving after it has been parked, that should minimize theft loss. My 15ft. U-Haul was stolen 1 month ago, day before the day of our move to AZ. We lost everything along with birth certificates and social security cards. Today we came back to California to get new birth certificates. U-Haul doesn't have trackers on their truck.
U haul needs to install rfid systems a card you slide first in order for the vehicle to start like when you tap your card on the box if you work at a gated facility

U-Haul corporation does not work closely with authorities or police departments. Your story in and of itself is proof. They need to get GPS location devices on all the vehicles and alerts that can be used on your phone what if your vehicle is moving without you in it.
Also, UHAUL needs to upgrade their vehicle security mechanisms. Times have changed. UHAUL vans have a key fob that is supposed to lock the van/set alarm. It doesn’t work. There’s some employees inside of UHAUL that are setting customers up for these thefts.
