"Can you swim with them?" The answer is YES, when you install synthetic dreadlocks they instantly give you the knowledge of swimming and you're good to go.
You loose about 100 strands of hair naturally everyday, and more when you wash it in the shower, and more when you comb it. When you have dreads, you lessen the loss of hair because you arent touching it as much. You hair grows because you aren't as focus on it when its in dreads.
Just turned 60. Started my locks @ 48-real ones. Was so thankful they made it thru chemo and radiation with me, a year ago. Hope you love them! I'm hoping to have mine for the rest of my days. ❤😊
I’ve never followed someone quicker! You two seem like such lovely, happy people! I’ve thought about having dreadlocks for a long time and now, watching this, I think I’m just going to go for it! Thank you both soo much! 🥰😁
I was just blown away with your after photo of your hair growth. Jaw on floor! Gorgeous! Thank you for such an informative video, I will be taking on my first set of dreads, pro stylist, and this is the only style I haven’t tried, and I’m ecstatic to do it! Thank you again 🙏🏼
I got synthetic dreads with braids and twists (viking dreads I guess) I am super excited to put them in but definitely feel like the dreaded ones look more sturdy. Sooo excited I almost hit the mailman with my door opening it so fast.
I have natural partial dreads with extensions to make them a little longer... I was just having the "synthetic vs. human" hair extensions conversation the other day! Synthetic hair as extensions can last a LONG time if they are cared for. I have friends who love some of the wild colors available in synthetics and they have this crocheted right to their natural dreads. If you are set on your hair color, and can find what you like, synthetic hair is a good choice. Folks prefer human hair often because it can be dyed and heat styled, however, if you get blonde human hair thinking you can dye it however you want, keep in mind that it has likely already been bleached to that color, so you are adding already-damaged hair and then processing it more, etc. There are pros and cons to both, for sure, but synth hair can be high quality, long-lasting and beautiful, as you both show with your lovely dreadheads here!
I can vouch for “the rougher you are on them” claim. I used to use a regular braid to secure my dreads that tended to loosen due to slippage, so I was always overly gentle with them. Once I found a braid that held them tighter and didn’t loosen, I was able to be rougher with handling them and I even went swimming in chlorine which I never thought I’d be able to do. Of course, I shampooed them right afterwards, but they have definitely become stronger, tighter dreads since I’m not so afraid of them slipping out, therefor I handle them like seasoned warriors.
What's the best way to dry them after a shower? Just air dry or??? That's the part I'm unsure of. I'm about to install my 1st set. I just want want them to end up moldy, if synthetic even can....
@@andreajeffcoat3378 I don’t think synthetic hair can grow mold, but I would still be concerned about mildew and I hate the feeling of them wet, I liked my dreads to feel soft and fluffy after being washed. So what I did is I got a bonnet hood attachment for my hair dryer from Amazon. I would ring out as much water as possible, put some conditioning products on my scalp and then I put all my hair in the bonnet, put my hair dryer on medium heat and then I sat and watched a show for like 30 minutes until my hair was dry and warm enough to be comfortable.
Omg I haven’t been able to grow my hair past my chin line in like 8 years and I got a set just so I could have long hair and that is just amazing how your hair grew!!!!!
The people in this video look like they have A LOT of extensions on their head… so they take ALL of them out every 1 to 2 months? That process seems like it would take days! I also don’t understand how to install them myself?
Elle can you PLEASE do a video on placements you love for partial dreads & peekaboos ?! If you already have a video with that info where can I find it ?
Would you guys ever do a tutorial on how to make your own synthetic dreads? I’ve been trying to make my own and I can’t get them quite right. Any wisdom you could offer would be super helpful. 💛
I love the giggle fits on the swimming question. It's so relatable. My favorite question about my dreads thus far is "how do you get the colors" I usually have giggle fits and then reply with, "well I braid the threads the same way you braid your hair?" lol
Thoroughly enjoyed the video, I have a question about your response to taking them out every 2 months. I don’t understand why/how I would take them out, I thought it was a permanent method. Any and all advice is greatly appreciated(:
Do you ever have any that start to frizz and come apart? Do you have to do any maintenance on these after you buy them? If so, how do you take care of them to make them last a long time? xo
They have frizz for the first couple weeks after getting them and then it completely goes away! I have had my same set for 3 1/2 years :) check our Instagram out at dreadfullhippie !
I agree, you are both such cuties!! Ok, I had dreads done to my real hair back in 2012. I didn't leave them in long bc they were just an experiment that my friend (we are both hairdressers) and I decided to do. I am NOTORIOUS for SHAVING MY HEAD! yes...really! I get bored with hair, and I usually color it often, and different colors. So as you can imagine, there comes a point when my hair is just lifeless. When that happens (which for me is every 2-4 years) I just shave it all off. When I had them previously, and was ready for a change, I just cut them off at the roots. That being said, the thought or fear of them in some way "damaging" my hair is nonexistent. I know you mentioned that conditioner was bad because it would cause a buildup and make it difficult to comb them out. And since combing them out is never going to be an option for me, can I use conditioner on them to keep them soft and smelling nice? I don't know if this is good/bad/or ugly, but when I had them before (again, bc I knew I would cut them out) I used fabric softer in them. It didn't seem to do any harm, and it kept them soft and smelling good. I do plan on keeping these in longer than my previous ones. Removing them in just 2 months is not something I plan to do. The young lady at the salon is going to use the crochet method, that is more of a permanent thing....right? I do know that I want a professional loctician to install them this time, and that isn't cheap! So I am hoping that what I'm having done is a bit more "permanent" than 2 months.
I've not seen this question answered yet. After washing the dreds what about drying them? Do you squeeze the excess water out and let them air dry? How long does it take for the dreds to dry?
@@andreajeffcoat3378 I just use a regular terrycloth towel, then if I have to go someplace quick I'll wrap my hair in a cotton bandana. Good luck with your dreads! ✌
Hi! I shaved my head about 10 months ago when going through chemo. I have, maybe a short pixie now but HATE wigs so, I am looking into dreads. Yours are beautiful. What color is it? Also is it hard to install into pixie length?
So these extensions are braided into your natural hair and thus you can only wear them for 2 months. If I want permanent dreads but my hair isn't long enough can I get synthetic/real hair dreads installed that I can keep for ever, maybe it's in a different way, crocheting instead of braiding??
How would I change the length of them? I just ordered some but I’m not doing my whole head and I have a feeling they’re gonna be super long compared to my real hair.
Omg the swimming part!!! 😂😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂 I love it! As soon as I save up I'll definitely be purchasing some 😁❤ also the chemistry between you two love birds is amazing ❤ keep being awesome
Not only have the dreads made my natural hair thicker and longer it has also changed from straight to curly. Its like a notable line where the new curly hair starts and the old straight hair ends. I love my dreads so much!
Hiii...you guys are lovely😊 I have afro textured hair and was wondering if you have had customer experiences with that. Does it cause tangles? Is maintenance the same?
Can I dye the dreads? I just ordered two sets to try them our before committing to a full set. I can’t seem to find this question in any of the videos. But then again… I’m new to artificial hair (dreads, wigs, extensions).
This is the same as braids for natural hair. the same rules apply. I think i will try these. I like the color and different designs. we don't have fly away hair though. but we wash our braids, swim in braids and the installation is different as we braid the synthetic hair into our own. to keep them neat we do usually sleep with some covering or like the guy in this vid in a pineapple bun. i wash my hair once a week. i can go longer since i have kinky hair. but i do have itchy scalp so once a week is good enough for me.
what do you do with them when you remove them every 2months? just take them out and put them back in? is it just to do a little maintenance on your own hair ?
I just had my DE dreads installed and I have short hair sticking out, baby hair I would belive, at the front, which bothers me when I have my dreads in an updo. What can I do to fix that?
What if you have a sensitive scalp? I can’t have tight ponytails or braids because it gives me a headache and my scalp ends up being sore after awhile. Is there a way to install these without having it be so tight/close to scalp? I have been wanting to try this for awhile but not sure if my head can handle it to be honest.

You said you recommended taking them out after two months or to wear them two months at a time yet you said they are their best after a couple months of settling so what do you do once your at the point to take them out for a break yet now they are finally settled?
I’m going to purchase Wool Dread extensions and I just want to ask.. Are they long term? Google said only three months. But I’d like them to last forever, like Synthetic ones!

Yes I am almost 60 and I am currently putting synthetic dreads in my straight hair for the first time but I believe I’d rather have permanent if I can make it longer
You can but I would recommend human hair extensions to extend real dreadlocks over synthetic. I have real dreads extended with human hair. Since it's real hair, you can treat it just as you would you own hair. They feel so much better then synthetic as well. I had synthetic dread extensions before dreading my real hair and they are so incredibly different. I much prefer real dreads/human hair over extensions/synthetic extensions. I don’t have your brand though because you guys are too expensive for me, I’m sorry. Yours are so pretty though I wish I could afford them. I got mine from daddy dread.
How long should you let your hair be between sets?
