I have been researching how-tos for several months. I'm from the Midwest and I cannot find anyone who can do this. I figured I could do them myself as I wore real dreads for years, years ago. Thank you as this has been the best video I have found with detailed info.
I'm not sure where you are in the mid-west but I am getting partial dreads put in the end of this month - I am in Minnesota! If you are close let me know I can send you my stylists info! 💙
This has been the most detailed and easy to understand instructions on these installs. I’ve watched many and helping someone for the first time today so I wanted a refresh and I feel so much more confident now than ever before.
I'm a synthetic dreads maker and artist and I install the dreads like this. I prefer the blanket stitch but sometimes with color the regulair braid is just more fun! Love your video and I will tell my clients about this video! 🤩
@@kellyduarte4943when I had dreads (my natural hair) I used braid shampoo which is like hand sanitizer or regular shampoo but no conditioner. Wool is special (look at wool cloth diapers) and I believe you can use lanolin with them
Omg this tutorial is awesome. Thank you for making it more simple. Some tutorials make it way to complicated. Thank you, this was way more straight forward and easy to follow.
I have been trying for a while now to figure out how to hide the pesky ends that stick out.... never once thought to wrap them before putting on the rubber band. Thanks so much for all of your amazing videos.
1st: you're beautiful. 2nd: thank you for being a realist and true. This video helps a lot. I'm a newbie with dreads and needed something to change my style. Did the side shave on my head (I wear cochlear implants so makes it easier for my "ears" to stick to my head) and I have always wanted long long hair. But with my hair and genes, I'm still waiting for the long hair. But!!!! I have this option which I cannot express the amount of confidence it's brought me. Even though I've installed my dreads now 4 times, I couldn't seem to keep them from slipping. I'm going to try out the wrap technique (though I'm nervous it's gonna look like trash cuz my hair is short). You've gain a follower right here. That's for sure. Thank you so much for this video. 💜💚
I have been wearing synthetic dreads for 6 yrs . This is by far the best how to video i have seen. Fantastic job! And your hair looks amazing! Cheers ❤
Came across your video. This is indeed very good for someone who doesn’t know how to do braided hair and wants to do their own hair. Excellent video. Thank you❤
Awesome! I was super bummed I’m in a small town and had them done but they literally fell out after 6 days (talk about embarrassing having a chunk land on the floor lol) I was just going to give up but found this and think I can do this at home!! Saved me a lot of grief !! Thank you!
Thank you for your video. I’ve had extension dreads before but always had them put in by a hair stylist. This will be my first time putting them in myself. Your video was very helpful.
I haven’t worn my dreads in probably 10-12 years. I keep meaning to look up ways to do them on myself because my fingers have completely forgotten how. Always had too many small frizzies missed. What a super great video. I’ve never seen anyone use gel like this before but that does make it look easier to me somehow.
I am a fellow dreadlock artist as well!! I do extensions and natural dreads. I use the blanket stitch most often for the uniformity and shortness of their hair showing to leave more dread to show off and enjoy ❤ I LOVE this video though!! 🙌
thank you bunches for this video, i know how to do feed in braids with the yaki braid hair but i could not figure out how i would install a pre-made lock, you made it so easy for me, thank you! mind you I did my own locks in my own hair and maintained it for 5 yrs until I cut it to start over, but I want them temporary this time so I can change up styles easier because I love braids too
Very informative video! At this time, I am only watching it for enjoyment because I don't currently have any plans to wear or install dreadlocks on myself or on anyone else. But I do find this fascinating! This is an excellent video, and I'm certain it is a very helpful resource for those who are actively doing dreadlock installations! Fawn 😊
I have had my hair in for a week I did both in my head I just played with different techniques but I would love to get some of the longer ones the double ended technique looks awesome indeed thicker is BETTER ❤
First of all I just wanted to let you and your viewers know something uncommon but useful. I have psoriasis covering my whole scalp and therefore it's not feasible for me to have permanent dreadlocks, I shed too much skin bc I make too many skin cells (5-10x the average person) BUT I have been able to enjoy dreadlocks by braiding in human hair dread extensions. Just in case anyone with psoriasis -or even bad dandruff- was wondering. Maybe someday you'll encounter a client like that Liz? not sure. I hope it's helpful. Also thanks for showing the difference between the two SE methods. I have always installed mine myself and since I only wear partial (bottom 1/3) dreads I can't see what I'm doing and have always wondered which one I'm doing since it kind of feels like I'm braiding but the braid is very short and scrunched together and you can't see it. After watching you do both methods what I've gathered is that blanket stich is esstially the same weaving pattern as a braid but it is just performed differently. So what I'm doing is between the two, it's not quite as tight as the blanket stich but not as loose as the braid (so to speak).
Hi! Thank you for the video. I am a bit scared to use DE Extensions because of the weight and because I do not know where to put SE and DE dreads. Your sectioning is so clean, really helpful to see.
Thank you so much for this video girl ♥️ I’ve been wanting dreads for a loooong time but in my culture our straight long hair is our strength and I couldn’t go all in with real ones but once I found out I can install synthetic ones, I got these beautiful 32” black to blonde ombré ones and needed to know how to install properly and your video helped me so much. Now when the rest of my accent dreads come in I will be installing them 🥰 I did a test run with about 10 blue ones and they looked cute just gave me a little time to experiment, now I know the Color’s and the type I want!! Thanks again beautiful 🥰🖤
Thank you so much for this video! I am having SE dreads put in the end of this month by my stylist. I did not know how easy, albeit time consuming lol, it was to install them yourself! Excellent info in case one falls out or I ever want to save some money and install them myself! Thinking I may have to try as I know I will have extras after she is done with the partial. Thank you! Subscribed as well!
Love this! I get my DE curly braided in with blanket stitch and had no idea how to do that stitch myself. If I need to reinstall one myself, now I know how - thanks!!
Just found your channel and I LOVE it! I've been wearing DE extensions for 4 years. I do the standard braid method except I flop the top over and braid it in so it lays on top of the loose end. This keeps them flatter to my head and I also shows off the "wrapped" side.
I am a complete newbie to this but I have always wanted to install synthetic braids or dreads. 4 months ago, I chopped my hair, so I have about 4-5 inches of growth. Is that too short for installation? Should I let my hair grow out a little more? I appreciate this video so much!
Do regular hair salons install? I cant part my sections evenly even if i have a mirror to hold up to look at the back. And i cant do the braids tight enough at the base for the back ones 🥴
Thaaaank you soooooo much for the video **( the second braid style is a herring bone / fishtail)** I am really curious how to use thread like you mentioned. My products came with thread aaaand rubber bands 😮
I want “real” dreadlocks in my hair, I kinda have a mohawk and it’s about 6-7 in long. I would like to get long ones half pink and gray. Could u recommend someone in Tucson AZ area?? Thanks, eLsiTa
I have a Mohawk currently as well and have to install dreadfalls (aka temp dreadlocks) for ghost the musical in a couple of weeks. I play the ghost train ghost, so they wanted me to be slightly cyberpunk in nature… I’m stoked for your idea tho! Sounds awesome!
Do you have a video that explains how to do a partial install and what parts to leave out? Also do you soak the rubber bands in oil or anything to reduce breakage?
❤ question how do I stop my faux hair extentions stop from sliding out? Any tips? Use standard plait technic. Only last few days before start to slide down.
Is a blanket stitch going to weigh it down more on the scalp then the regular braid would. I feel like the regular braid would distribute it evenly on the loc
Is it recommended to use double-ended on fine hair? I want the volume, I just don't know if I A) have enough hair or B) it's too thin and fragile to hold it 😅 How do you know if your hair can handle the double-ended dreads, I guess is what I'm asking? 🤔

Excellent explanation, thank you! I've previously done box braids, but never dread installation and I was curious to understand how the blanket method works. How many dreads would you say cover a whole head? Would about 25-30 DE be enough?
I feel like it would be too hard to do it in the back not seeing what I'm doing 😩. Does it damage the hair to leave it in a braid like this? I have fine hair ☺️❤️
So if you want dreadlocks you could leave the extensions in indefinitely and they will eventually dread up is this correct ? That sounds way easier to me then sitting in a chair for 8 plus hours having them put dreads in with extensions. I mean if you can install the extensions and then let your hair do it’s own thing that would be great. In my opinion of course.

What kind of hair did you install? Is it wool or synthetic hair? I know sometimes they have premade locs at the hair store. Can that be considered a SE install?
I'm having a problem with my hair being super frizzy. I've had them in about a week and everyday seems more frizzy. Can anyone help me. Should I redo them. Tips please.
