Many electronic parts have very long life span that can be reused/ resurrected for better purposes. In the video recycling techniques are very primitive and reduces the yield dramatically. For example those toroid transformers are a lot more valuable than extracting the copper. 3 months training prior to recycling job will be very beneficial, recycling can be done most profitable way. Workers can make 12 to 18x more by working only 6 hours a day without fumes and toxic exposure

At age 16, I was living in Japan and saw firsthand how recycling was done. I would visit the electronics shops in Tachikawa City to buy parts for electronics projects. Men would be squatting in front of a pile of old TV sets to extract the copper wire from them and to cut parts out to resell in the electronics stores. It was a clean and thriving business. Fast forward to today... There are very very few discrete components in electronics today that have any value. Recycling requires special techniques and methods to extract the valuable elements contained in them. I grew up poor and know poverty firsthand. These people have no choice but to work in these situations in order to subsist. Could Akbar use better techniques in his recycling efforts? Sure! But look at who is "choosing" to live this way. Akbar is. Recycling, good or bad, is a choice. There is no such thing as lack of opportunity. As far as blaming electronics companies for their part in this, consider this. In 1966 there were no recycling companies handling e-waste. Just a few people recycling copper. With the newer technologies, electronics companies have found ways to lessen the impact of the e-waste by making things smaller. Don't think so? When was the last time you sat down at a computer instead of your cellphone to send a text or email... or to watch this video? Copper costs a couple of bucks a pound these days. Back then it was only pennies. Everything is getting more expensive and unfortunately for the poor, their lives are getting cheaper because of this "revolution" in technology. When I was in India, I got a rash of little red spots on my feet and I went to my friends family doctor, he looked just like a normal Indian. He met us out side, looked at my feet, I think he gave me a few pills (probably the same pills she's taking, ha ha ha ha) and that was that. The rash went away.

I have been to Pakistan last year for 3 months to do some charity work and the 1st problem that I seen is that yes the government have a bugget for that stuff but the small village MPs are putting it in there pockets building them self's houses have nice car and not spending the money were it should of been spend. At age 16, I was living in Japan and saw firsthand how recycling was done. I would visit the electronics shops in Tachikawa City to buy parts for electronics projects. Men would be squatting in front of a pile of old TV sets to extract the copper wire from them and to cut parts out to resell in the electronics stores. It was a clean and thriving business.
Fast forward to today... There are very very few discrete components in electronics today that have any value. Recycling requires special techniques and methods to extract the valuable elements contained in them.
I grew up poor and know poverty firsthand. These people have no choice but to work in these situations in order to subsist. Could Akbar use better techniques in his recycling efforts? Sure! But look at who is "choosing" to live this way. Akbar is. Recycling, good or bad, is a choice. There is no such thing as lack of opportunity.
As far as blaming electronics companies for their part in this, consider this. In 1966 there were no recycling companies handling e-waste. Just a few people recycling copper. With the newer technologies, electronics companies have found ways to lessen the impact of the e-waste by making things smaller. Don't think so? When was the last time you sat down at a computer instead of your cellphone to send a text or email... or to watch this video?
Copper costs a couple of bucks a pound these days. Back then it was only pennies. Everything is getting more expensive and unfortunately for the poor, their lives are getting cheaper because of this "revolution" in technology. We will all suffer for this.
