The population of France is less than 5 % of that of India and they also have an aircraft carrier. It's not a matter of India spending too much money on military, but rather that they are such a big population. Per person they are too poor to pay for things like sewage.
Hey, you can't just blame the government. The people are equally at fault. They throw non-biodegradable wastes into the rivers. The industries on the banks of the rivers illegally allow their toxic water to flow into the rivers. What can the government do if the people themselves don't understand the word 'pollution'? Historically, these rivers were considered sacred as their waters naturally had medicinal properties and higher oxygen levels than other rivers. But it's so sad that with the arrival of plastic and modern industries we have systematically killed these properties. Had these rivers been simply used for worship in the way our ancestors did, we wouldn't have seen this day. I feel very sad for my country's rivers. It took us a few decades to pollute the rivers that had been among the cleanest in the world for several millennia. What's more pathetic?
Yeah, and in Mississippi people roll around on the floor with poisonous snakes...cause it's holy. We are just as irrational as every other culture. We are thought excactly the same thing here in Finland: respect the nature. But also you have to understand Indians. Their culture and history is totally different compared to ours. So we can't have a moral highground towards Indians. For example look what we do to cows here in Nordic. Not only in India, but all over the world. Otherwise, we all are doomed. The river Thames use to be like this. Very polluted with industrial wastes and sewage from London. But today after several cleaning programs the Thames is the cleanest river that runs through a city in the world. I reckon with a bit of hard work and dedication this river could be cleaned up too.
The thing is that river did get clean during the lockdown that was imposed during March but the apparently "indians" here don't quite care about facts. Most just dream about settling abroad (of course by parents' money lol) and believe hating the country seems cool. The major reasons behind the polluted river is a strong lobby of industries and inefficient judiciary that fails to take action against the wrong. The media has been bought to run an agenda blaming it all on religious practices but the thing is if in a free flowing river you throw flowers, ashes or literally anything that's natural it won't pollute it(or at least not make water carcinogenic) but it's been done so to divert attention from the real culprits that are the industries with power of money and people are getting fooled quite easily. And problem ain't just this government, the lobby is bigger than these mere governments.
@@ayzu7670 While industrial pollution is the largest problem, factories don't throw in tons of plastic. Factories don't dump their untreated sewage in it either. That's on the population.
@@RDJ2 Get out of your bubble lol. Factories openly dump untreated waste. That's exactly what the problem is. The "tons" of plastic that you're referring that's present in the river, out of it probably the plastic bags unfortunately only come from the actions of some dumb people (throwing flowers in plastic bag and something else that's biodegradable in plastic) but apart from that it's your dear industries who are at fault.
Because they believe that the river is a goddess, they believe that it can never be impure, never be unclean, never be damaged. With this mentality, they believe that polluting the river does not harm the river, because its water's are holy.

Actually the river which contaminates bangladeshi rivers is called 'Ganges' also as an indian citizen myself i want to apologize to my bangladeshi bros for the problem they have to face because of river pollution. For decades indian government is trying to clean the river but everytime due to people's apathy and corruption(most of the time officials hog all the money among themselves which were given to them by the government) it result in nothing but money wastage but fortunately the present government of india is quite serious about the cleaning of india's polluted rivers and they are investing crores of money and are also taking help from israeli and american companies to clean the river but still it will atleast take 2-3 decades for any significant changes to appear.
