god I love driller, it's such a cerebral class, everything but your primary has combat value and utility value so the value of any one resource changes by the moment, you got 3 different projectiles with 3 different behaviors, and then there's the 3D tunneling: I am the pencil that punches through both sides of the paper!! protip to my fellow drillers: use your impact axes to mark tunnel entrances since they glow in the dark, and tunnels do basically the opposite of that, it makes your tunnel network much more accessible when the entrances are visually advertised
@webkinskid you my friend are a genius. As a driller main, I always do the main objective solo with friend bc they get lost, but now it's 200% because I'm too fast
@@Jeffery21Memes you know speaking of, that's another thing the driller is GREAT for--you can bring the team together, it's like every 3rd lobby I'm in that I'm digging a tunnel for some lost dwarf to rejoin us
@@Jeffery21Memes in that case, you should learn to cast the spell "make the cave bigger" you'll have to practice to find the right angle and depth, but basically, you get up against the wall, put your drills like 3 notches up from horizontal, dig 3 or 4 chunks deep, toss a satchel, get out, blow it up, rinse and repeat on either side of the resulting crater and boom you've just made an awesome little space to fight off whatever's coming at you, it works best in corners and bends, and if you get good at it, you can typically get 3 charges out and blown between the time the swarm is announced and when it hits, and having good room to fight and maneuver can make a big difference if you get swarmed in an otherwise bad place--plus, if you use 3 charges to do it, 1 slurp off the resupply sets you back at 3 charges and you can do it again next time you need it, very handy
The thing i love most about Engie is just how much room for creativity the platform gun gives you. Bridging, blocking, parkour, bug manipulating, bug killing with certain overclocks, fast "one way elevators", swiss cheese stacks for mole gunners. Combined with an experienced Driller, the caves become your canvas. Also, the RJ250 overclock is addictive.
One reason that I like Gunner so much is that I can help prevent other dwarves from getting hurt further because of the shields I have. Kinda like a protector of sorts while I gun down bugs.
The reason I started as a Driller main was exactly what you mentioned - that you can drill directly to the droppod. Getting out of the mission (especially long mining caves) often seemed more difficult than the mission itself, when I was a greenbeard. Now I have roughly equal XP in all classes and enjoy all of them.
I love the simple fact that every class has a role when a swarm comes, the gunner moves to the front and tries to slow down the swarm, engineer has turrets which helps with blind spots and anything not in front of the gunner, scout rushes in when the swarm dies down to kill the big targets, driller is a second defensive line like the turrets with his aoe of the flamethrower and the ice cannon and seeing the teamwork is really cool
I would LOVE a video about the "unspoken rules, role and responsebilities" of haz4 &5 play for each class. If playing with randoms and is trying out haz 4 or 5 for the first few times, what is expected of each player based on their class?
Feel it’s always missed in these types of videos but driller is not just great at getting to “the drop pod” at the end of a mission but ANYWHERE at anytime (fuel provided). It doesn’t matter how complex the map layout is , driller just makes a path to the spot they wish to go. Hell I will see tunnels that run below or beside my current position and just drill a link to them for current or future use down the road. There is rarely an instance where I’m “lost” as I make the path.
There are a couple instances where driller's ability to do this is limited, namely very large caves. Not just those absurd 400m wide ones on max complexity mining and escort (though those are still difficult to drill around) but any large cave that is between a lot of places it'd be nice to connect. Those are times when communication with an engineer or a gunner for their traversal tools further enhances driller's capabilities. It is kind of funny when you see (or are) a driller who happens to end a tunnel too high in a wall and fall into one of those big caves, though.
I've played only a couple hundred hours in DRG but I had a couple of nicknames that I used to describe each class. Engineer : Safety Steve, because of the platform gun to prevent fall damage and sentries help with first contact and holding positions. Gunner : Mobile Medic Tent, always being at the rear of the group and the one to usually pickup the closest fallen dwarf while in shield cover. Scout : Bug Boy, leads bugs, lures bugs, debuffs bugs, and runs from bugs, it's the bug boy. Driller : The Nanny, always there to save bug boy and hold the rear during an escape, has a 1/38 chance to kill bug boy doing bug boy antics. I like all the classes.
I love Gunner Plasma burster missiles (ala BEES) are so much fun to use And the miniguns colant one is amazing too Scout is my close second, the mobility is so amazing and its so fun when youre the last one standing zipping around to avoid death and res your temmates
Gunner I almost only play Bee with triple tech champer. I dump 5 to 10 in the crown, switch to coil gun. It playstyle amazingly negate most f speed debuff while bee become auto attack function coil TTC with elec slow everything down.
Most of the time, when playing any of the classes, I encounter an obstacle that I can't make my way past with my regular movement before I realize "Oh wait, I'm playing [CLASS]" and then I instantly solve the problem. It feels amazing every time.
One of the best things I’ve found with DRG is the shenanigans classes can get up to. Scouts my favourite purely because I have the recoil overclock on the sawn off and can use it as a makeshift jetpack to yeet around the map.
I main gunner. I think one of the main keys to mastering gunner is knowing when to hunker down and shoot and knowing when to run away. although my recent favorite class is engineer.
You absolutely right I main engi, around 600h I start main gunner and one of the most uncomfortable thing for me is how I got speed debuff for shooting and also don't have turret look out for me. Now I am getting better, stick mostly to Bee( man that thing auto attack after i shoot around 10 shot and run while charging coil is such cool playstyle)and Triple tech chamber
Here are some tips to avoid scout's flaws: For the fall damage, you can use special powder overclock on the boomstick, the focus shot overclock on the m1000 classic or the hover boots perk, and as for the crow control: scout will not be the one killing the enemies, but rather helping the team kill them while taking care of high value targets (the annoying enemies), that is due to scout having some really good support grenades (such as the pheromones or ice nades), and that is because i didnt even mention the special bolts on the crossbow, and many other things that scout has such as that overclock on the m1000 that makes every enemy who gets shot by it recieve more damage. In conclusion, scout is the goat of support, high value target elimination, and objective completion
When I first started, I played almost exclusively scout. I had a lot of trouble maneuvering so being able to get anywhere I could see was a huge advantage. After several hundred hours, I now play Scout the least. Having learned a lot of mobility tricks and strategies for the less mobile classes, i don’t really miss the grapple. I play a lot of solo, and I find scout’s weapons to be a little too specialized. I can go full single target dps, or wave clear, but then find I run out of ammo extremely fast when not facing their ideal targets. I think the only thing I really ever miss when playing the other classes is the flare gun, that thing is amazing.
I got to gunner last (I played everyone but I definitely played him least, last to get the legendary 3) and it was honestly such a good idea. Not only do you have such better situational awareness developed for shielding, but I think a pretty deep realization to have with gunner is that gunner >ISNT< slow. Your default dwarven movement is really competent at staying ahead of enemies, bunny jumping with ls lets you easily maintain speed, and using zips to zip down during swarms for infinite kite lets you turn whats generally a pretty slow class into easily the second most survivable by mobility in the game. It requires you to be pretty aware of terrain, but a good gunner looping like this is a scout with a minigun
You're honestly right, I first tried gunner and I was like "this is awful" a few hundred hours later and he's my favorite. Gunner at high hazard requires good game sense that you just don't have in the beginning. I used to play driller exclusively because of the crowd clear but gunner is so incredibly good. He can do it all, swarm clear, single target, survivability, everything.
It’s worth mentioning that scout has some of the best grenades in the game. And they just so happen to be great at crowd control, which really helps make up for the lack of cc with your guns
The classes are very well balanced, with certain overclocks you can make any class be high crowd control or single target, or whatever you need. There isn't any major cons to any class.
Something ive found to be true for many, is that they stick with 1 or 2 classes at the start, but when they start unlocking some of the other weapons and fun overclocks they start playing those classes more, till you at some point end up playing quite a bit of all classes.
I started as Engie.. But it fell to 2nd place after i got the hang of Driller and figured out how to play him effectively. Driller i feel like is the "difficult to master" class of the game. Can feel weak at first, especially compared to the others, but once you figure out how to play him, he can be very powerful in a mix of situations. I love using him in escorts to drill ahead and clear out all the cave chambers before starting the drilldozer. He's also key in quickly getting though the caretaker fight.
My problem with Driller is how he struggles against machines. Fighting bugs is fun, I can just incinerate, or freeze or dissolve anything that comes my way. But when it comes to rival tech, it sucks. None of the weapons in its arsenal seem to do good damage against machines except the throwing axes, and the axes lack range. Maybe I just haven't figured it out yet, I would love to see what driller mains use to deal with rival tech
Great video. Main Engineer as I love that 'lock down an area' kinds feeling and making an area safe for the team. At least safe from the bugs, but not from the Driller himself..... : -p
Scout has always been my main, as i like to go fast. Honestly im just a sucker for that double barrel. I do, however, play all the classes a fair bit. They all have amazing kits that just work when you get the hang it. In random lobbies I still go scout majority of the time for the new OC for the plasma rifle, as it helps anyone that has status effect builds (which is like 8/10 of the time at least in my experience with randos)
Favorites 1. Engi: Played it the most. I get so many kills. I love my minions. But it can be overwhelming to keep track of all your toys. 2. Driller: You just make a huge mess. You can brawl. You're the man. 3. Gunner: Just promoted him recently, as the last class. Already had many OCs. With the OCs, it starts being fun. 4. Scout. I can't aim, it ain't for me
I think the Scout's flare gun is the best tool in the game because being able to spot resources and enemies from great distances just makes everything way easier for the entire team. I have around 2k hours in DRG and play every class the same amount and keep their prestige levels the same. I like them all, but probably Engi and Scout are my favorites, followed by Gunner, and Driller.
I was scout main for about a year. Buddy of mine always played engi. Then one day we switched it up. I went engi and that has been my main ever since. DRG is the only game I have over 1000 hours in and more then a 1/3 of that time is with engi. Not really sure why, but something about the way the class play just feels really good. All classes are good and when you get a balanced party (1 of each class) and everyone plays to their strengths, it is like the choir & orchestra playing the Skyrim main theme. Perfectly balanced as all things are meant to be.
aahhaah saw my engi you rezzed lol!! as someone who loves all the classes, I wanted to main Engineer ( fav gun Lok-1 and archtype Minions!) then Driller totally took the top spot as my favourite movement skil with my love of throwing axes and fire!! Vampire perks man!! It's my current main! Gunner is the best bodyguard and if I'm feeling to not think too much it's all Gunner. Scout is the roughest one for me as fall damage was brutal!.... but I see a crossbow with pheromones nuff said!! Flares are so important!! Really excellent classes all.
A bit more elaboration on engineer’s weakness base on my experience and preference. In my opinion, engineer arguably suffers the most when being ambushed by stray bugs when compared along with his colleagues in the same situation, this weakness punishes engi even more painfully if the engi doesn’t have his turret setup somewhere beforehand. Gunners got the gun and shield to gun down the bugs and forcefully create a breathing room if needed; Driller can either toss a C4 and then press the button, or use the drill to scare some of the bugs away as the drills can inflict fear; Scout can toss a pheromone jar or use his grappling hook to run away. But engineer does not really have some sort of “get out of jail” free card by default, at most it would be the L.U.R.E., but even that has its limitation in terms of how many bugs can it draw away from engi. But if I may say, this weakness also accentuate on engineer’s nature of being a class of set-up and fortifying (even though there are many ways for an engi to set up the sad fortification) and in a way, teaches a new engi to be vigilant, set up the sentries and observe the cave,. Thanks again for the DRG video, ReapeeRon, your DRG videos that you made in earlier days helped me on understanding the game around a year ago by quite a bit.
My "get out of jail" card with Engineer when I get caught off guard is my Breach Cutter equipped with Inferno. 3 shots of that bad boy is more than enough to incinerate any horde of grunts that may have flanked me without me noticing it. The Shredder Swarm grenades also help a lot by slowing down enemies. Honestly its very rare to even get flanked as Engineer given how much firepower he has
I'm surprised you didn't bring upDriller's single-target. I personally think it's his biggest weakness. While it can be mitigated, especially with certain overclocks, you will still feel it - ESPECIALLY when taking on boss enemies like the OMEN, The Caretaker, or any Dreadnought.
They all great but when it come to fun factor, I rank them like this: 1 - Scout: The mobility and freedom that this class give you is unmatched. Once you are used to all the mobility tech, it feel like you are in control at all time. You can see, analyze and react faster than anybody else and you can help everyone directly or indirectly. Whether it by getting the critical missing nitra at the right moment or luring a swarm away from the team to give them some breathing room. Take heightened senses and vampire for survivability and the hover boots to counter fall damage and getting those really high mineral resources (Hover boots + grappling hook tech is king). 2 - Driller: To me, the Driller have the most fun weapons in the game. Getting those elemental damage on enemies is so much fun. The drill is also the most fun tool in the game. Use it in combat with vampire and the dots from any of the 3 primaries and nothing will stop you. Range is an issue? Create your own tunnels with minimum space for the enemies to follow thought, now they're fucked. Your surrounded and have nowhere to go? Who said the Engineer is the only one with a nuke? His C4 can DEVASTRATE bigger enemies and you can even use it in tandem with the Iron Will/Vampire synergy to have a pretty efficient kamikaze option if you even find yourself surrounded. (Just make sure to melee, drill or axe someone afterward otherwise you will look quite dumb lol). 3 - Gunner: It the most basic class and on paper, the most boring BUT let me present you a perk that the gunner can make use more than anyone else: Born Ready. Learn to handle your weapons around born ready and you will have the time of your life! I also have to warn you that the Gunner get more fun to play the higher the difficulty is because he shine in situations where things are not going well. You'll never use your shield generator if nobody is in real danger thus you will feel like you have one less tool than everybody else and it not as satisfying. On haz 5, he about as fun as the Driller for me. 4 - Engineer: Let's be honest here. The Engineer is the strongest class in the game. It can do everything the Gunner and Driller does effortlessly. His turrets are amazing and positioning them at the right spot is not as hard as it seem. Just like Ron said, he got the best secondaries by far and his primaries are nothing to scoff at. His platform gun have great utilities and his grenade are arguably the best while also being the easiest to use. It the perfect class if you just want a chill time and relax...which is why it fell the least fun for me. Since everything is done almost automatically, it doesn't feel as satisfying as other class to play.
Fun video, wanted to add sm stuff. For scout, he can maybe cc with some grenades like cryo or phero, tho I'm unsure their effectiveness at higher hazards For engineer, low mobility can be mitigated by using RJ250 (one of my favourite pgl ocs), tho that means you sacrifice other more damaging overclocks in order to be a budget scout that can mine his own platformed minerals
Driller has easily the weirdest primaries out of all the dwarves lol. You have: - A flamethrower, which can be turn into a cone-shaped shotgun. - An ice sprayer, which can be turn into a long ranged weapon 😳. - An acid blower, which can also be turn into another shotgun, but medium ranged instead 💀.
Gunner is underrated, if you like spitting lead, he's your Dwarf. Heay be the slowest and least mobile, but he hits like a truck and is as tough as steel
I started out maining driller, specifically cyro vampire driller. Melee is fun, and I can get my hp back easily. Problem is dealing with range which i use subata with explosive ammo. Right now I mostly comfortable playing with Engineer with Lok-1, turrets and shredder bombs seeking out enemies from any direction, using a shard diffractor for that strong direct damage.
I was dreading the zipline section, but it was fine. To me, gunner's low mobility is kinda fun, it forces you to actually look at where tf u r going and use terrain to your advantage (or at least look how to get somewhere without spending a zipline/digging through rocks). I like to think playing gunner a lot made me somewhat good with moving around without tools For scout you didnt mention how scout is.... to put it harshly. quite a selfish class. You can get anywhere, but u ain't leaving any path for your teammates. And generally, you kinda do your own thing most of the time. Flying around getting all the minerals and nitra and what not, not interacting much with the team unless there's a horde on your ass and you can't deal with it. And (imho) some of the overclocks really do suffer from teammates existing, crossbow ones especially. And the nades are.... not explosive. Good support, but they dont kill bugs on their own For engineer, again, that's just my opinion, but while secondaries are basically primaries......... Primaries are (and you wont believe it) basically secondaries. Like im sorry, but scouts shotgun feels way better than engi one, stubby is basically subata with some ammo and electrodamage, and LOKI is just kinda clunky (altho it's the most "primary" feeling primary i'll admit). Maybe it's just me, but engi primaries just feel bad
As engi main, u are right to certain degree though. lock need ammo buff, currently stubby really the best at electric(emp, elec plat)crown damge and control but all other OC are not that good, for shotgun only 2 oc feel good to use and the main use actually turret whip. But man the secondary just so good. For gunner because how I play engi the only play style work for me is shoot around 5-10 plasma missile into the crown and ler it auto attack with stun, switch to triple tech.
@@ucnguyeminh8445 the problem with stubby is that electricity deals like no damage so you can't really do anything without weapon-changing OCs (same with crossbow on scout btw, except it has no targets that it would be good against). And then shotgun just doesnt feel shotgun-y enough, why tf do i have to aim with A SHOTGUN? Without pump-action or stunner or leaning heavily into turret whip it's just kinda bad
@@benismann Pretty interesting perspective, I don't really agree on most fronts. Scout absolutely is a team player you just need to recognize and lean into his support ability. At a macro level getting nitra fast helps the team a ton, but then you're also lighting up the cave for them, spotting and clearing stationaries for them since you'll be first to caves, using your crowd control to reduce pressure on them, grappling to stringing teammates to support them, using your time to focus on objectives while your team is busy to help out the overall mission, using your high burst damage to take out key targets like wardens and septic spreaders for them, using your high mobility to rez teammates (potentially with field medic), you're usually going to be the last alive for clutch heals, knocking red sugar off roofs for them, support tools like tazer bolts to pin dem nems/bulks/dreads/event enemies/hoarders, getting high up objectives/secondaries for them, ect ect ect. You are very much THE support class so playing him like he's a selfish miner really loses out on a ton of value he brings to the table. I think more aptly he CAN be the most selfish miner. Scout is the janitor, you've got the time and mobility to do it all and if you're doing everything well there's a really good chance no one notices why the missions going so smoothly As for engineer, EMD stubby, executioner loki, explosive chem loki, and stunner are all pretty strong primary options that aren't slouches at all.
@@celestialowl8865 i was typing something out and then accidentally pressed "cancel" Oops I said "harshly", scout isnt selfish, hard to be selfish when u're sharing resources anyways, but to me scout feels like the most "im doing my own thing" class. Nades kinda amplify that, coz that's crowd control, and guess who's struggling with crowds the most? Yep, that's scout. Yes you can revive teammates, Grappling hook also lets u just get way ahead of your teammates, or get somewhere where they will struggle to get, which once again puts you in a more solo-spot than before. Sure u mine minerals for everyone, but that's just basic mechanics of the game. Kiting the swarm instead of staying with teammates during waves is also probably better at relieving pressure since you can kite enemies pretty effectively and if they're on you that means they're not on your teammates! For engi, this is totally my opinion and you can disagree with it, but the fact that you named 2 loki overclocks and 2 NON loki overclocks just confirms that loki is the most primary-feeling primary and it's still not very good feeling to me.
@benismann Scout just isn't struggling with crowds the most lol. He can comfortably go a whole mission without even killing a bug solo, those nades are very much about team support. You may use them selfishly, but you're losing out on a ton of value playing that way just like a gunner can use his shield to always shield himself but it's a real waste to use it like that
My favorite class is: all of them Here are my favorite ways to build each class, I won’t mention many mods. Gunner: thunderhead, neurotoxin payload, fear mod Burst Pistol, any OC Driller: Cryocannon, any OC Colette wave cooker, any OC, temperature shock mod Scout: Drak, any OC, electric bullets mod Jury-Rigged boomstick, Special Powder to offset fall damage Cryo Grenades Engineer: Smart Rifle, any OC Shard Diffractor, any OC SSG grenades
Only really started last night so great timing for this video. Im curious though was the footage in the first few minutes the deep dives or a modded lobby?
All the classes are great in DRG. Some maps/biomes/missions favor different classes. But this all balances out…. To get truly great at any of them, you should master them ALL! DRG is a TEAM EFFORT.
Fun video, and I completely agree with all of it. Before overclocks scout also feels the weakest out of the classes. None of your weapons are great at killing anything without burning through all your ammo. Especially solo you spend longer than anyone in fights using half the time to escape.
I play every class but am a driller main myself and my friends often notice even if im not plaxing driller. I am always the first one to say lets just go trough the wall to create shortcuts redardless of wich class I am playing. I think you should at least try each class a bit to learn what they can and can't do. That makes teamplay a Lot easier
The most class i like is the Eng, i like the platform gun soo much that I some times die because I try to use a platform when im not Eng, olso Eng is the perfect class if you like multi tasking like: building your sentry and useing your platform and grenades olso useing your weapons on them, But not gonna lie it takes time so it's butter to have a protection like gunner or driller to help you
I really like how unorthodox driller is, but for downsides his guns are probably the most rigid in terms of performance. You can feel absolutely useless with cryo cannon if you happen to take it vs robots and CRISPR is really weak still. Jump from it to cryo and especially sludge pump is really impactful. Playing gunner, for example, I felt like every primary was about on par with each other. Also scout's mobility tool is my favourite, but I like exactly 0 of his primary or secondary weapons.
im legend lvl 6 on all four dwarves on playstation and silver level 1 on all four on pc. id have to say that gunner is probably my least favorite class due to how basic it is. simple guns are simple guns, even if theyre effective. also in a game that promotes mobility and creative methods of reaching a destination, i find the zipline to be very arduous, especially since its the only traversal tool that you can be knocked off of by an enemy (80% of the time a silent acid spitter that sneaks around a corner the second you grab the line). with its limited angle, range, and ammo, i dont get nearly as much use out of it as the other 3 traversal tools in the game. engineer is probably my favorite. build sentries and let the sentries do the work. throw ssgs and let them do the work. equip the smart lock rifle and let the rifle do the work.
I really want to get back into DRG. I've been mainly playing HD2 and Enshrouded recently. What I miss the most about DRG is its gameplay first design philosophy. Especially compared to HD2 where the devs are constantly concerned with realism and balance. DRG is just flat out fun. It's also very polished. Running on Unreal 4 definitely helps. Quick question: did NTP get nerfed? It's been a while since I've played and I remember that OC being incredible strong. I wouldn't be surprised if it got nerfed by now lol!
Probably going to be put in a lot of Books of Grudges here, but, out of everyone in the cast, Driller comes off as the least well thought out and is the most expendable to bring along in a squad. He comes off as rather niche and, aside from an On-Site refining mission, I feel he can have a lot of his job taken over by a second Gunner or Engineer. TL;DR compared to other classes Driller is too support and not independent, secondaries don't jive with Primaries, Axes and certain perks are too godly to use anything else in serious play, and C4 is more of a boring meme-y boom cube than a class defining tool that cements his role in a team (and often works against his team according to all the Scout jokes) Don't get me wrong, he certainly has some gnarly primary weapons that add a lot of support like slows and DoT, as is his likely intended role. It's the rest of what he has, though, that really doesn't seem to mesh all that well, as they don't seriously feel like a compliment to any of them. Like a pistol that isn't burst damage-y or long range accurate enough to act as a back-up in situations the primary doesn't excel at. Or a pistol that is maybe damaging enough, but is too inaccurate and projectile-y to act as a back-up situations the primary doesn't excel at. Or a ray gun that is accurate and long range enough, but relies on combos with the primary so a lot of the time can't be used to its best potential since those primaries have limited range (still, probably my favourite out of the three). Because I have to rely on my primary so much, I feel I have to constantly chug resupplies just to keep up. I also don't much like his traversal since I'm always just staring at a wall, and how its power only exists around the edges of the playspace and not on any of the inside like the other classes (remodeling the area, for big fights does feel nice, still) All that, though, I can admit is just my personal taste. While I feel rather frustrated that he doesn't seem as independently powerful as the rest of the crew and may exist solely as a support to those who can dish out more concentrated pain to those no-good bugs, being a support class is something I know many find fun and endearing, and DRG certainly deserves to have one included. What I can't abide by, though, is how pigeonholed his perks and equipment choices are, starting with those darn Impact Axes. Put simply, they're too good. They're quick, they're easy, they synergize with perks like Vampire, there's no penalty for missing, you can store extras for after a resupply, you have lots of them, and - most importantly - give him access to his most lacking attribute - burst damage. I almost never see any of the other grenades used. HE's are fiddly and hard to use for less effect, Neurotoxins are slow and just more DoT he already has in spades (or force you to use fire if you want to explode it, be really careful if you don't, all while risking singed beards on the chance one of your fellow Dwarves also happened to bring fire), and Rippers require comparatively galaxy IQ and effort to work well on anything bigger than grunts (which he already excels at removing) while also being potentially team-wiping, friendly-fire disasters in the making. Sadly, the only recourse I can see to break this Viking monarchy are either nerfs or a class specific perk rework that gives Driller unique benefits for choosing different options (weird tangent here, but how about swapping HE grenades with Scout's freeze grenades? Driller is sort of supposed to be the elementalist and can benefit from applying mass temp shock, while Scout lacks swarm control and would be real fun zipping around dropping bombs from above, making actual use of the grenade cooking feature as he can use it to time them to detonate just above heads for max effect). Lastly, there's C4. I won't sugarcoat it, but it's just a glorified grenade. A grenade that's either too valuable or just unnecessary to use on minerals, or too unpredictable, slow to deploy, and dangerous to you and teammates to use on enemies. It is useful for bunkering, yes, but with skill level rising over the years and more enemies able to bypass them, the days of the bunker are long gone now unless the new Hazard levels somehow have caused a resurgence I'm not yet aware of. All of the builds for them are just bigger damage, bigger boom, and more booms, which aren't interesting at all. Personally, I'd like the last upgrade tier to have things in addition to the terrain carving such as a radiation zone C4, or a chaff C4 that shuts out ranged attacks for those terrifying Mactera Plague, Duck and Cover missions. Keep the explosions and memes, sure, but when I go through four or more years of this game and can almost count the number of times on my fingers I've even remembered to toss one out, I can say it's an issue. I really wanted to like Driller. Ironically, due to some early obsession with him, he's my most played class. However, when even in this video Ron doesn't bother to mention his other grenades or his C4, I'd say it's clear he has some serious unaddressed issues that have gone on far too long. Sorry for the rant and here hoping our warcrime drill boi gets some attention soon.
"Driller has a lot of ammo". Really? I always found the driller somewhat lacking in ammo with his primaries (Definitely doesn't have a lot), regardless of how I mod them. Which makes sense because his primaries are incredibly powerful with certain mod/OC combinations.
I love all the classes I lied I got fatboy I’m an engineer main I lied again I have lead spray gunner is my favourite I lied again man I’m sorry but I do have the gamma ray on the blood cooker so I’m a driller main also I like c4 and drills go brrrr Im actually a scout main grappling hook is op
To me each class correspond to a drug. Gunner=weed/Cannabis Scout=speed/Amphetamine Driller=Cocaine Engineer=Ketamine But since I have no experience with these drugs, I am using the movie versions, so this could be all wrong. :p
Driller is just chaos, chaos everywhere, explosions, flame, flying axe, microwave ray, unstable laser gun. I love it
It's really easier to list the parts of the Driller's arsenal that aren't technically a war crime:
Subata
C4
Impact Axe
????
You forgot to mention in the cons for scout, the driller is the second leading reason of death to a scout
"Explosives placed"

god I love driller, it's such a cerebral class, everything but your primary has combat value and utility value so the value of any one resource changes by the moment, you got 3 different projectiles with 3 different behaviors, and then there's the 3D tunneling: I am the pencil that punches through both sides of the paper!!
protip to my fellow drillers: use your impact axes to mark tunnel entrances since they glow in the dark, and tunnels do basically the opposite of that, it makes your tunnel network much more accessible when the entrances are visually advertised
@webkinskid you my friend are a genius. As a driller main, I always do the main objective solo with friend bc they get lost, but now it's 200% because I'm too fast
@@Jeffery21Memes you know speaking of, that's another thing the driller is GREAT for--you can bring the team together, it's like every 3rd lobby I'm in that I'm digging a tunnel for some lost dwarf to rejoin us
@webkinskid that's a good point, but I only play with friends or solo but I can see it
@@Jeffery21Memes in that case, you should learn to cast the spell "make the cave bigger" you'll have to practice to find the right angle and depth, but basically, you get up against the wall, put your drills like 3 notches up from horizontal, dig 3 or 4 chunks deep, toss a satchel, get out, blow it up, rinse and repeat on either side of the resulting crater and boom you've just made an awesome little space to fight off whatever's coming at you, it works best in corners and bends, and if you get good at it, you can typically get 3 charges out and blown between the time the swarm is announced and when it hits, and having good room to fight and maneuver can make a big difference if you get swarmed in an otherwise bad place--plus, if you use 3 charges to do it, 1 slurp off the resupply sets you back at 3 charges and you can do it again next time you need it, very handy
@webkinskid I do that when I need to, but thank you for trying to teach me
Special Powder is very accurately named for how addictive it is to my Scout brain
It's really good!
He is really good at that!
I love the simple fact that every class has a role when a swarm comes, the gunner moves to the front and tries to slow down the swarm, engineer has turrets which helps with blind spots and anything not in front of the gunner, scout rushes in when the swarm dies down to kill the big targets, driller is a second defensive line like the turrets with his aoe of the flamethrower and the ice cannon and seeing the teamwork is really cool
driller is probably upfront tho. Then gunner, then engi and scout is god knows where but he is SOMEWHERE sniping down all the annoying targets
I would LOVE a video about the "unspoken rules, role and responsebilities" of haz4 &5 play for each class. If playing with randoms and is trying out haz 4 or 5 for the first few times, what is expected of each player based on their class?
In general - the same as for below Haz4, but you just need to be better/quicker. Knowledge of your setup and how to use it at given moment is crucial.
Greybeard Etiquette, that's actually a good video idea
@ That is a good title!
There is rarely an instance where I’m “lost” as I make the path.
deep scans become a matter of
1 find direction of crack rock
2 go in direction of crack rock
3 repeat
4 profit
There is no boon to a highly complex cave system like a Driller that knows how to read the map.
Driller is an insta pick when I play on-site!
I have over 1000 hours on DRG, and the only time I played a class that wasn't driller was the tutorial.
lol
I wish I had that power. My completionist bones demand I play something that isn't Gunner once Gunner is fully leveled.
@@robertfletcher1871
I hate wasting XP, so I swap to Gunner to do my driller promotion assignments.
Other than that, it's all driller all the time.
Missing out
haha, that's a good one
I love Gunner
Plasma burster missiles (ala BEES) are so much fun to use
And the miniguns colant one is amazing too
Scout is my close second, the mobility is so amazing and its so fun when youre the last one standing zipping around to avoid death and res your temmates
Gunner I almost only play Bee with triple tech champer. I dump 5 to 10 in the crown, switch to coil gun. It playstyle amazingly negate most f speed debuff while bee become auto attack function coil TTC with elec slow everything down.
I love all the classes equally, however the build diversity with each class just elevates their fun factor!
I heavy agree with that.
After 1500 hours, I realized 1200 hours in that I enjoy and have come to be good at using every class
Very well said.
Most of the time, when playing any of the classes, I encounter an obstacle that I can't make my way past with my regular movement before I realize
"Oh wait, I'm playing [CLASS]"
and then I instantly solve the problem. It feels amazing every time.
One of the best things I’ve found with DRG is the shenanigans classes can get up to. Scouts my favourite purely because I have the recoil overclock on the sawn off and can use it as a makeshift jetpack to yeet around the map.
That is another great selling point for Scout.
You forgot driller's #1 con of having the best accidental team wipe capability. :D
Yeah, but sometimes that's funny when it happens on accident because they/everyone was panicking.
Accidental?? Oh, right, nevermind. 💧
Calling out the minions thing for Engi was so real
In conclusion, scout is the goat of support, high value target elimination, and objective completion
the council of spitballers will decide your fate x)
They always pick death, there was no other options.
@churchseraphim1380 at 3200 hours myself, he's definitely my go to "I just want to carry a lobby" class haha
It’s worth mentioning that scout has some of the best grenades in the game. And they just so happen to be great at crowd control, which really helps make up for the lack of cc with your guns
Scout has some of the best crowd control in the entire game with cryo/phero grenades and cryo/fire bolt nishanka
That is true, those do help a lot with crowds.
yea, scout has good crown CONTROL but not much in crown CLEAR
The classes are very well balanced, with certain overclocks you can make any class be high crowd control or single target, or whatever you need. There isn't any major cons to any class.
Something ive found to be true for many, is that they stick with 1 or 2 classes at the start, but when they start unlocking some of the other weapons and fun overclocks they start playing those classes more, till you at some point end up playing quite a bit of all classes.
I can see that, and that does make sense.
As a gunner main I can say that you are quite accurate.
Thanks!
I like driller cause he can just say, " fuck the tunnels, I'll dig my own".
Favorites
Ayyy! Glad the video idea panned out :)
Honestly its very rare to even get flanked as Engineer given how much firepower he has
I started playing driller, it was as fun as I expected. Love my guns, love my drills, love my satchel charge, love my axes. Simple as
Engi and plat parcours my beloved but I enjoy Gunner time to time and actually playing some Scout, the crossbow is very fun to play and master
They all great but when it come to fun factor, I rank them like this:
1 - Scout: The mobility and freedom that this class give you is unmatched.
Hate the bugs
Hate the bots
Hate the scout
Luv me flames
Luv me satchel
Luv me rocks and stones
- Thoughts of a driller main
Very fair.
As a driller main I eat rocks and scouts for breakfast. And then dip my balls in liquid morkite afterwards.
Gunner: The Medical IFV
Engie: The Swiss Army Knife
Driller: The Terraformer
Scout: The Jet Mining Cart
That's a good summary.
As ROCK SOLID Gunner main I'm really enjoying my machinegun
Fun video, wanted to add sm stuff.
For scout, he can maybe cc with some grenades like cryo or phero, tho I'm unsure their effectiveness at higher hazards
For engineer, low mobility can be mitigated by using RJ250 (one of my favourite pgl ocs), tho that means you sacrifice other more damaging overclocks in order to be a budget scout that can mine his own platformed minerals
Driller has easily the weirdest primaries out of all the dwarves lol. You have:
- A flamethrower, which can be turn into a cone-shaped shotgun.
- An ice sprayer, which can be turn into a long ranged weapon 😳.
- An acid blower, which can also be turn into another shotgun, but medium ranged instead 💀.
I like to play engineer, because it reminds me of my time playing tf2, when i mained engi, because i like to annoy people with sentry's
same lol "if it doesn't work use more gun"
I have heard the zipline refered to as grandma's chairlift.
The king hath spoken!
I like to think playing gunner a lot made me somewhat good with moving around without tools
For scout you didnt mention how scout is.... to put it harshly. quite a selfish class.
Good support, but they dont kill bugs on their own
For engineer, again, that's just my opinion, but while secondaries are basically primaries.........
Scout is the janitor, you've got the time and mobility to do it all and if you're doing everything well there's a really good chance no one notices why the missions going so smoothly
As for engineer, EMD stubby, executioner loki, explosive chem loki, and stunner are all pretty strong primary options that aren't slouches at all.
@@celestialowl8865 i was typing something out and then accidentally pressed "cancel"
Oops
I said "harshly", scout isnt selfish, hard to be selfish when u're sharing resources anyways, but to me scout feels like the most "im doing my own thing" class.
Nades kinda amplify that, coz that's crowd control, and guess who's struggling with crowds the most? Yep, that's scout.
Yes you can revive teammates,
Grappling hook also lets u just get way ahead of your teammates, or get somewhere where they will struggle to get, which once again puts you in a more solo-spot than before.

Driller main mostly because of the drills.
Only really started last night so great timing for this video. Im curious though was the footage in the first few minutes the deep dives or a modded lobby?
Yes, that is a modded lobby that has more players in it. Hope that this helped out a bit though.
All the classes are great in DRG. Some maps/biomes/missions favor different classes. But this all balances out….
To get truly great at any of them, you should master them ALL! DRG is a TEAM EFFORT.
I love engineer because of big damage numbers, but god damn is gunner essential in higher haz or with green teammates
Fun video, and I completely agree with all of it. Before overclocks scout also feels the weakest out of the classes. None of your weapons are great at killing anything without burning through all your ammo. Especially solo you spend longer than anyone in fights using half the time to escape.
Ron is the GOAT
Im a scout main but I am on a mission to get the rest of my classes to promomtion rank 1
I wish DRG would get a meaningful content update. I really miss playing this game.
Bro you did NOT put my favorite two on the HATE side!
I like them all, but this was going to make someone upset.
im legend lvl 6 on all four dwarves on playstation and silver level 1 on all four on pc. id have to say that gunner is probably my least favorite class due to how basic it is. simple guns are simple guns, even if theyre effective. also in a game that promotes mobility and creative methods of reaching a destination, i find the zipline to be very arduous, especially since its the only traversal tool that you can be knocked off of by an enemy (80% of the time a silent acid spitter that sneaks around a corner the second you grab the line). with its limited angle, range, and ammo, i dont get nearly as much use out of it as the other 3 traversal tools in the game. engineer is probably my favorite. build sentries and let the sentries do the work. throw ssgs and let them do the work. equip the smart lock rifle and let the rifle do the work.
@@joeygwood nope ntp is still ruining pubs to this day along with minelayer lol

Driller 🫱🏻🫲🏾 Scout
Probably going to be put in a lot of Books of Grudges here, but, out of everyone in the cast, Driller comes off as the least well thought out and is the most expendable to bring along in a squad. He comes off as rather niche and, aside from an On-Site refining mission, I feel he can have a lot of his job taken over by a second Gunner or Engineer.
TL;DR compared to other classes Driller is too support and not independent, secondaries don't jive with Primaries, Axes and certain perks are too godly to use anything else in serious play, and C4 is more of a boring meme-y boom cube than a class defining tool that cements his role in a team (and often works against his team according to all the Scout jokes)
Don't get me wrong, he certainly has some gnarly primary weapons that add a lot of support like slows and DoT, as is his likely intended role.
I also don't much like his traversal since I'm always just staring at a wall, and how its power only exists around the edges of the playspace and not on any of the inside like the other classes (remodeling the area, for big fights does feel nice, still)
All that, though, I can admit is just my personal taste.
Well said
"Driller has a lot of ammo". Really? I always found the driller somewhat lacking in ammo with his primaries (Definitely doesn't have a lot), regardless of how I mod them. Which makes sense because his primaries are incredibly powerful with certain mod/OC combinations.
Hehe drill go brrrrrr
wait wait wait wait. the most important question to have is... is that nerf gun skin already in-game? or is it part of a mod???
asking for a friend 😅
That is a new skin that was added in this Season, called Buff. You get it from cosmetic cores.
Most excellent, thank you for the heads up!

Driller
WE'RE RICH!!!
To me each class correspond to a drug.
Gunner=weed/Cannabis
Scout=speed/Amphetamine
Driller=Cocaine
Engineer=Ketamine
But since I have no experience with these drugs, I am using the movie versions, so this could be all wrong. :p
Somebody really cares about which class you playing? Bruh.
