i still remember doing "karl would be proud" achievement where you have to do 5 haz5 missions in a row without going down once and getting a supply. definitely one of the most stressfull periods in this game for me
@@DrDevvi it's best done on solo because you have bosco who never goes down + plus has unlimited ammo, playing as a scout on extraction mission and all you have to do is run around and point bosco on digging out and carrying aquarqs to the deposit still hard to do, but much more doable than going as a full team

I play haz 5 by default as I’m a graybeard with over 2,000 hours of experience and some insane original builds that I have crafted. One of the biggest differences between hazard 5 and 4 is that the enemies move much faster on haz 5. It is really hard to outrun haz 5 enemies. Every time I go back to haz 4 now I take a second to laugh at how slow they feel in comparison.
Could i ask you for some advice on how to deal with enemies in haz 4 or 5 without running out of ammo or just running around in circles for 10 minutes?
@@danolantern6030 totally are you looking for advice in general or for a specific class? i typically make sure i have something to slow down the hoards from reaching me. stun, fear, and slowdown keep them from reaching me and give me more time to deal damage. either that or deal so much damage that you can kill them before they reach you.
@@danolantern6030 oh and i know you dont want run in circles, but kiting is very useful in killing enemies, although there are methods to make it more interesting and effective. if there is a corner and a hoard coming you can utilize it as a makeshift chokepoint. put any slowdown on the edge and or use a lot of pierce or area damage as they come around the corner and it becomes far easier to manage a swarm.
When you figure out target priority plus have a good build you feel comfortable with, you're pretty much good to go on whatever difficult you want. Two other tips I can give: In almost any case it is not better to kite your enemies by moving backwards while shooting. You won't be able to kill faster than they get to you. Give your back to the enemy, make distance and turn around again to shoot. Also, if you have Iron Will, you are the last man standing and you doubt yourself just a LITTLE, please, PLEASE put down a supply pod before anything else.
I’m triple gold promo on both gunner and engi, and one gold on scout (and we don’t talk about driller), and I still mostly do haz 4. It’s not that I can’t do haz 5, but I just like having some breathing room.

Nah bro. Me as scout with M1000 and a random gunner with neurotoxin payload (brought the wrong loadout for the mission) took care of that shit in less than 5 mins
Heres how i make my builds for every mission type. High damage for dred and sabotage missions. Crowd control for derrata and egg hunt missions. Lots of ammo mods for point extract so you don't waste time on nitra. A mix of everything in morkite missions. Liquid morekite any build but more carrying capacity for nitra or gold. And Last of all got to master weapon synergy make it so both primary and secondary weapons and grenades work all together to mow down those enemies.
On one side Hazard 5 seems to be very weird and random, sometimes its super EZ and feels like you accidentally started a 3 instead, sometimes it just fucks you mercilessly without lube the second you get out of the droppod. However i stand by my point that it is NEVER too hard. If you have a team of 4 dwarves that know what they are doing, there is almost nothing the game would ever throw at you that could pose significant issues. Yet somehow still while playing Haz5 i very often meet lvl100+ people who suck so bad they should never even try to go above 3.

You are grey beard when you perform cooperative actions by instinct and not when asked by others. For example placing platforms on minerals even if they are not yet seen by scouts or planting ziplines in 4 strategic directions on arquac mining missions.
Haz 5 pro tip: ALWAYS take stun on breech especially when taking inferno. You may think you’re losing something but stun is so valuable at keeping you alive that it’s WORTH it
There’s a good amount of room for variance but I would generally recommend this Tier 1 mag Tier 2 ammo Tier 3 projectile arm time Tier 4 Stun (its OP) Tier 5 Plasma Trail For OCs avoid Return To Sender and High Voltage Crossover. Spinning Death is good but not for this build This is what I personally use but I’d recommend experimenting with different upgrades to see which fits right with you (except armor breaking, stun is seriously that good).
Being a greenbeard implies a lack of knowledge and experience enough that you have to learn. Ergo, once you've gained enough knowledge and experience to teach a greenbeard something the game doesnt usually, you've become (or at least are beginning your journey as) a grey beard. Rock and stone lads.
Having dragged a many low level dwarf through the elite deep dive, my personal experience is when you hit level 75 you are ready to graduate from being a greenbeard, if not already have.
i guess im close to level 75, but after reading these comments i think im still a fair way off calling myself a greybeard... and thats ok! i enjoy the learning process

I think it's a Driller grenade issue. None of them feel as immediately rewarding as other classes' grenade options. In reality, Driller does have excellent nades, but until you learn how to get the most out of them, they don't feel like a strong tool and get forgotten in the heat of battle.
How to haz 5. Kill shooty bugs on sight. Anything that doesn’t need to be in melee reach to hit you dies first. The more range or mobility that thing has, the sooner it dies. Know your weapons, do not attempt to tank hits from enemies, and understand that scout’s job is to kill anything that shoots back first, engineer’s job is to keep important locations clear, gunner protects the team with his shield, and driller clears paths and enemies for the team. Also don’t ever stand near cliffs or walls because the bugs can climb up or down to get you before you can shoot them.

Plasma trail with inferno does not make the plasma trail ignite bugs, but it is still probably the best engi secondary combo most of the time in modded. Once you start to learn how to play with it, it becomes a great tool for so many situations.
@@DrDevvi No it's pretty much the opposite lol. You were using 21212 inferno and the best bc build is 11122 inferno. So really close to optimal actually.
On H5 I always play as the driller favo class and all, I use freeze, ballgun and nuking bugs with C4, plussaving everyones ass by drilling underneath the teammates and ress them.
Im gonna be totally honest, almost 2k hours experience speaking here, the hardest part of drg is getting fucked over by the spawn director. Sometimes, its just one of those days where you keep getting bulks back to back, you check what hazard it is just to make sure your not that sleep deprived and its evidently hazard 3.

Question: how much do you terraform caves to better fight swarms and defend objectives? When it comes to hazard 5 it's definety a good skill to have. Also you should NOT have chosen point extraction as the start.
Yeah I realise now egg hunt is the easiest, but I just picked PE cause with driller and engi we usually get them done in a few minutes on haz 4, I guess we just underestimated haz 5 though
About rank 200. I've seen decent 100s and terrible 300s though. Usually anything under 100, I consider a threat, and a waste of resupplies (high likelyhood of them double dipping as well). They are more likely to shoot me than the glyphids, so I avoid fighting around them at all costs.
The scaling can feel so weird. I find Hazard 4 solo or with 3 people more challenging than Hazard 5 with 2 people. Something about 2 players is that sweet spot, maybe because the number of enemies is still small but another dwarf is more useful than Bosco. But point extraction missions are always the worst. Elimination is also rough for 2 since one person going down leaves all the aggro on the other one.
i dont even wanna know how big the swarms get with 4 dwarves on haz 5... and im beginning to realise we shouldnt have started with a point extraction mission lol
I did Hazard 5 so many times its easy (well at the beginning it was hard but i upgraded myself and bonzo and its easy now) i only have 60hours on deep rock galactic

I say if you can consistently beat haz 3 missions, you aren't a greenbeard anymore. If you can consistently clear haz 4 missions, you are way past greenbeard. If you can consistently beat haz 5 missions, you are well on your way to being a greybeard. If you consistently and utterly destroy haz 5 missions in style, you are a greybeard.

on escort mission, you can use the platforms as engi to make a roof over dotty, it can block the flying rocks if you do it right

I never play lethal, I do missions on haz 2 and for fun on haz 3/4...haz 5 is just ridiculous. I'd only join a group when I have nothing else to do.

yep they are pretty rough, every other mission you can run, but you just have to sit there on mini mule

On H5 I always play as the driller favo class and all, I use freeze, ballgun and nuking bugs with C4, plussaving everyones ass by drilling underneath the teammates and ress them.

Im gonna be totally honest, almost 2k hours experience speaking here, the hardest part of drg is getting fucked over by the spawn director. Sometimes, its just one of those days where you keep getting bulks back to back, you check what hazard it is just to make sure your not that sleep deprived and its evidently hazard 3.

Question: how much do you terraform caves to better fight swarms and defend objectives? When it comes to hazard 5 it's definety a good skill to have. Also you should NOT have chosen point extraction as the start.
Yeah I realise now egg hunt is the easiest, but I just picked PE cause with driller and engi we usually get them done in a few minutes on haz 4, I guess we just underestimated haz 5 though
About rank 200. I've seen decent 100s and terrible 300s though. Usually anything under 100, I consider a threat, and a waste of resupplies (high likelyhood of them double dipping as well). They are more likely to shoot me than the glyphids, so I avoid fighting around them at all costs.

The scaling can feel so weird. I find Hazard 4 solo or with 3 people more challenging than Hazard 5 with 2 people. Something about 2 players is that sweet spot, maybe because the number of enemies is still small but another dwarf is more useful than Bosco. But point extraction missions are always the worst. Elimination is also rough for 2 since one person going down leaves all the aggro on the other one.
i dont even wanna know how big the swarms get with 4 dwarves on haz 5... and im beginning to realise we shouldnt have started with a point extraction mission lol

I did Hazard 5 so many times its easy (well at the beginning it was hard but i upgraded myself and bonzo and its easy now) i only have 60hours on deep rock galactic
its doable but ill stick to haz 4 for now, its less stressful

I say if you can consistently beat haz 3 missions, you aren't a greenbeard anymore. If you can consistently clear haz 4 missions, you are way past greenbeard. If you can consistently beat haz 5 missions, you are well on your way to being a greybeard. If you consistently and utterly destroy haz 5 missions in style, you are a greybeard.
