Bought the 12 inch version of this when it was first released, played it to death... Tragically, I eventually forgot about it as it fell inexorably into my past. For some reason, I remembered the final chord progression and searched long and hard through my memories until I remembered the song... incredibly, it has been 30 years since I last heard it, yet it seems like yesterday. Drenched in early 80s production, however, it will continue to bring a smile to my face and a tap to my toes. Beautiful. Where are you now lads?..
Me too..! I was entranced by the cover photography and design as much as I was the song. Back in the days when album/12" artwork sleeves were a big thing, sadly rare these days. I'd forgotten about it too until a friend randomly played it at one of our low-key DJ nights in a local pub about 6 months ago, and I realised I knew every word of the lyrics. I walked up to him and shook his hand and thanked him for the memories!
How have I never heard of this band? Amazing sound that takes me back to the late 80s. So reminiscent of The Ocean Blue, New Order, etc. Just beautiful.
Ominously noxious and creepy how they're kept from the mainstream back then, yet the like of slagdonna the vile, Bon Jovi, Wet Wet Wet Wet and the S/A/W puppet machine and c/rappers all welcomed! AND never left!
this track was a huge hit in alternative radio stations and underground record shops in Sao Paulo Brazil, probably in other eclectic towns across the country, but it did not go unnoticed AT ALL
So many songs DID define the 80s, but only the cool ones, of course, people like Kim Wilde, A Flock Of Seagulls, Duran Duran, Laura Branigan, Sandra, Alphaville, China Crisis, OMD, Kirsty MacColl, Sparks, ABBA, etc. not the like of what they always put on the radio and worship from it!
Not by me either mate, it’s always been up there as one of my favourite songs of all time since being about 12yrs old thirty or so years ago. Great tune, lovely produced clean guitars.
No Rio, quem tocava eles era a rádio Fluminense FM, acho que era a única. That's an interesting statement...The 80's was ESPECIALLY all about 'getting ahead'...getting as much as you can. Image is everything. Thats when that attitude really all took off. It's sad that the majority of us just went with it, instead of just being there. Or being here now, for that matter.

From the days when bands didn't have an "image". They just put out their songs on their little labels, minimal airplay...word of mouth and independent record shops kept them going. Sigh...leave me alone, yesterday...
@Jamie Uhler Well said, Jamie Uhler. Sometimes having 'no image' is the image. I always hated when John Cougar once said he had no image. "I just wear t-shirt and jeans," he said. That dope didn't realize that we all knew that the common man wearing common clothes was the image he wanted to project.
They had an image, but just a few styles mixed together...the bass player wears loafers and white socks which is a mod thing, also immaculately pressed trousers that are just over the shoe - very nice, most of them have those kind of 'flat top' haircuts that a lot of subcultures have favored, the stripy shirts have that Paris vibe, and that Rickenbacker guitar is an iconic look etc...anyway, they look great, and the tune is fantastic!
