Bought the 12 inch version of this when it was first released, played it to death... Tragically, I eventually forgot about it as it fell inexorably into my past. For some reason, I remembered the final chord progression and searched long and hard through my memories until I remembered the song... incredibly, it has been 30 years since I last heard it, yet it seems like yesterday. Drenched in early 80s production, however, it will continue to bring a smile to my face and a tap to my toes. Beautiful. Where are you now lads?..

Me too..! I was entranced by the cover photography and design as much as I was the song. Back in the days when album/12" artwork sleeves were a big thing, sadly rare these days. I'd forgotten about it too until a friend randomly played it at one of our low-key DJ nights in a local pub about 6 months ago, and I realised I knew every word of the lyrics. I walked up to him and shook his hand and thanked him for the memories!

So many songs DID define the 80s, but only the cool ones, of course, people like Kim Wilde, A Flock Of Seagulls, Duran Duran, Laura Branigan, Sandra, Alphaville, China Crisis, OMD, Kirsty MacColl, Sparks, ABBA, etc. not the like of what they always put on the radio and worship from it!

2:20 to 2;48 and 3:17 to the end love it! Love the singing too. The greatest artists ever were making college-oriented rock and alternative music during the 1980s. If I could go back in time I would not have worried about getting ahead in life or what anyone thought and enjoyed the music and cool people back then.

That's an interesting statement...The 80's was ESPECIALLY all about 'getting ahead'...getting as much as you can. Image is everything. Thats when that attitude really all took off. It's sad that the majority of us just went with it, instead of just being there. Or being here now, for that matter.

You guys made a beautiful, eternal piece of Music.
Living in South America in the 80s, a period of time when information took ages to travel, at least was I capable to listen to The Railway Children. British publications (magazines dedicated to music and the Melody Maker too) were too expensive for me to buy. Later on, some record label ended up releasing the LP up here.
It was a time when Rock bands started to flock in Brazil. I remember one of the musicians during an interview says he went to London because he really needed to understand what was in the air of Britain, the reason why there was so much spectacular music being created over there.

They had an image, but just a few styles mixed together...the bass player wears loafers and white socks which is a mod thing, also immaculately pressed trousers that are just over the shoe - very nice, most of them have those kind of 'flat top' haircuts that a lot of subcultures have favored, the stripy shirts have that Paris vibe, and that Rickenbacker guitar is an iconic look etc...anyway, they look great, and the tune is fantastic! Back then bands dressed much better, then grunge came...:-(

    There's one much brighter
    I just can't compete
You laugh to loud when you say
    Throw caution away
    It changes everything
My friend it could be anything
    A different name changes everything
    But what matters
    What really does'nt matter
We're caught in this hit and run
    It all becomes so vague
    It's one step brighter
    Hanging out of the windows
    In the corridors
    Should your reflection fail
    There's visions for sale
    Pretend they're anything
My friend they could be anything

Excellent band. Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful music! Beautiful presentation of The Railway Children! The bands of the past really are too much, insuperable! 80's unsurpassed!

What's so good about the Eighties' music is its simplicity (arguably many of the New Wave hits). And Railway Children carrying it until now's memory.
