😢 Beautiful old cinema! That real and winder were awesome! Sad that the only people who would even care about this place are right here watching this video! 😂 I remember going to see Star Wars: A New Hope in a theater like this in the 70's! 😮

Hello, do you know how I can enter the building as I only live round the corner and love exploring places like this, thanks!

Fantastic Video Matt. As an ex stage manager, lighting & sound tech it was a pleasure to watch this video. Your knowledge of theatrical equipment, how its used and who would have been using it was outstanding. I so often watch explores of theatres and cinemas and always end up laughing at the wayout suggestions given of what things are for. Safety Curtains have to come down at least once in every show they don't have to stay down but they must touch the stage floor at least once per performance. Some theatres bring them down to the floor then straight back up others like my local one bring it down during the interval leave it for 5 mins then lift it back up. I have only ever seen one emergency release it comes down fairly quickly but not majorly dramatic due to the counter weight system. Modern theatres now use electric motors to run the fly floor which is a shame as it was good fun operating the rigs by hand.

Epic Explore I love these longer ones. That building could be brought back to life and it would look great.

what a find, love the old equipments left behind, we just dont have places like that here in the states, people would have trashed or stolen it all by now around here.

I quite enjoyed that Matt, such a shame to see it going to rack and ruin, through lack of use. That projector was superb, high quality equipment, designed and manufactured in an era where equipment was well thought out & manufactured to such a high degree, that it was built to last. Great work and many thanks. 👍

At @0:35 did you find the inside of that triangular room piece on the Sound side of the backstage? Looks as if it was the most recent addition to the building. Excellent video, Matthew!

.... and in Estonian (language) the word Hippodrome is horse race track. So I was intrigued at the same word... being a theatre in British English.

Thanks for this, saw many a show there, so sad that it closed down, hopefully the old Cinema round the corner will be fully restored and open soon, keeping an historical building alive.

At 22:58 - when you're panning the camera around when the pigeons are flying about - is it me or is that the shape of a shadowy person right in front of you? I can just see it that one time, then it's gone when you pan the camera back again...

Question @Secret Vault, are the films that they play in cinemas now still highly flammable and have to be stored in fire proof cannisters and rooms?
