- In today's video, I'm going way back in time to the game that started it all - The Sims 1! I'm bringing you a blast of nostalgia as we play the Bob & Betty Newbie tutorial and try to create some love between them. But relationships are hard in Sims 1, and Bob & Betty have absolutely NOTHING in common. Can we save this mediocre marriage or are these iconic Sims doomed?

I think the difficulty makes it fun, it’s like an actual strategy game rather than just a dollhouse.
I always loved the community lots in sim 1. I used to love going and buying gifts for all my sim's friends, like the chocolates and the teddy bears. I know you can recreate these kinds of shops in sims 2 but there's just something about the sims 1 shopping experience that's so fun!
There's actually a mod that I consider a must for sims 1, it's called something like the calendar mod where it adds days and weeks and gives your sims 2 days off of work a week.
Cindy, actually the fact they don't like each other is a bug. When you start a new game, for some reason, their interests are all erased, but if go to any community lot, all the interests are randomly fill in as normal and they interact normally

Yeah I think it’s because there were no interests in base game so when opening a base game family for the first time when you have all the expansions , they have no interests yet
Yes, that's a bug that came with Hot Date or Unleashed. In the original game they had interests, but you couldn't change them at all. I had to prevent Bob and Betty from ever eating together because just one conversation had them ready for divorce😂
I think it'd be cool if you recreated Bob and Betty in the Sims 2.
Maybe not in Pleasantview with their daughter Brandi Broke around 😂
I miss the Sims 1 music so much. I do listen to the soundtrack on a very regular basis, but i miss it in the game. I like sims 2 & 3 music too but the original sims holds a LOT of nostalgia for me. Also, some of the simlish sounds, like Micheal Bachelors laugh at tv, the maid whistling, and the tv commercials.
I’d love to see a little series with these Sims and more! Sims 1 is just pure nostalgia 💓
We can settle the live mode debate by looking at the game in other languages. In French for instance it's called "Mode Vie" which basically translates to "Life mode", so it's meant to be the mode where sims live, not the mode where the game is live 😅
I'm super feverish, I needed something comforting and a Sims 1 video is perfect. Oh the nostalgia. I played it until 2 came out and sometimes still get back to it for the challenge that is the superstar and the magic pack

I have so many memories of Bob and Betty. Or maybe more Bob. I was so bad at the game back in the day, being a child that probably shouldn't have been playing, that I don't remember getting to the part that Betty joined much. I have a very vivid memory of Bob just staring at the screen, screaming at me and ignoring everything I tried to command him to do. He'd just scream, then start dancing to the radio.
Please make this a series! I'd love to see more of the Sims 1 families in the spotlight!
It makes me wonder about brandi broke childhood backstory. Were her parent's marriage bad? Judging by the sims 1it seems pretty clear, poor brandi.❤

Its such a great game and i think it deserves to get more attention. Also it would be nice to see what happens in your game and how you play the game, compared to 2, 3 and 4.

About the Live-Mode debate: I'm also team 'Five', but it's mainly because I'm German. In German the word live (pronounced and written the same as in English like 'Five' ) is only used as an adjective and the mode is called Live-Modus as in Live mode.
Sims 1 looks so fun but so difficult. But yes I’d to see more of Bob and Betty.
I tried it again recently and was surprised by how refreshing the challenge felt compared to the current games! It's more slow-paced and you look forward to every paycheck, because you see how a new chair or fridge immediately makes your sims' lives easier.
I do suggest new players take a look at the manual or prima guide to understand how personality or socializing works, that really trips people up.
I'm team Live (as in "going live") Mode since Sims 1 as well. 😁
I feel like live as in "live love laugh" makes more sense based on the fact that the other modes are buy mode and build mode

Yes. Live said like saying "going live" because the moment you click on it, the Sims go live (with long i).

So, “Live” mode was intended to be as in living - its slogan was “Build. Buy. Live.” in TS1… but I say it how you do anyway lol.
Also an issue with Complete Collection: premade Sims that were in the main area of the game prior to Hot Date - like the Goths and Newbies, but not Sims that were added in the Unleashed expansion - need to visit an outside lot to have their interests reset or else they don’t have any and as a result are very difficult to grow a relationship with. (You can see Betty’s lack of interests for a split second at 4:41)

I recently binged her Sims 3 Pleasantview Let's Play cause I was craving that chaos.
I remember how exciting it was to be able to go somewhere when the Hot Date expansion came out. And it worked better than the later games in many ways. You could make an actual mall with different stores, and they'd go to the correct register to check out and stuff. I tried doing that in 2, and they would go to registers in other stores to check out. And you couldn't really make shopping centers in 3. And 4 stupidly only allows certain objects to be used at certain lot types. Very disappointing to me.
And agree that Sims 1 soundtrack is the best one.
I remember having Complete Collection with Makin' Magic and always trying to use that "Age of Instant" spell in order to age up children to adults and advance my families, but sadly with a completely randomized selection and a lack of DNA in the Sims 1 it wouldn't always feel 100% real. Still, a very fun game to play even in 2024, I totally agree on that

I say "live" as in "alive" because that makes more sense in my head. I never even realized people said otherwise until last year lol. It sounds wrong.

I love this so much!!! I’m soooo tired of TS4 let’s plays besides from SatchonSims and one or two others off and on.
I really enjoy visiting the old games. I refuse to play TS4, lol, so it’s great getting ideas from the other games for game play for when my laptop is back from the shop 😅
Plus- I just love watching AND playing TS1, TS2, and TS3. TS3 is my fav sims game, but I don’t see many let’s plays for it.

I legitimately can’t believe there’s people who’ve played The Sims 4 but haven’t played the earlier games. 😭
Sims 4 is like 10 years old, most people I know (gen Z like me) has only played Sims 4 (some have a vague memory of Sims 3 and are not sure if they got to play it at some point). My computer had Sims 1 and I had the opposite experience growing up playing the Sims 1 wanting to have Sims 4 because I thought it was better and when I finally got it I got bored in a week. At some point I realized that the best games were in between (Sims 2 and Sims 3, Sims 1 is not bad with all the expansions)
Now I only play Sims 2 and be always trying to convince my friends that it is better than Sims 4, some of my friends are amazed just by the fact that the map of the world is 3D instead of a cartoon with no customisation.
Hitting me with the nostalgia here. I recently introduced my nieces to sims 1. They were obsessed 😂 so glad to see people still playing sims 1.

Please continue playing the sims 1! It’s so nostalgic. As a kid my grandparents bought me the sims complete collection when it my windows 98 pc couldn’t run sims 2 double deluxe lol. I wouldn’t play sims 2 until a couple years later when my parents upgraded from vista to 7. Vista wouldn’t play sims 2 either.

Live mode (the way you say it) 100% You play a simulation of life. My pet peeve is people who say live (like liv-ing room) mode. WRONG!!
And yes, maybe do a mini-series of the families in Sims 1. Maybe like 3 episodes per family or something.
Just a simple way to give your sims in the sims1 more of a sense of an aspiration: when creating a sim, make your sim a child and give them a simple name like "m". Finish the sim without any personality points or further edits. Before saving the family, edit the sim to an adult with your preferred name, looks and personality points. This will (at least in ultimate collection) give your sim a bunch of skill points, now go find a job suitable to that skill set, or determine whether your sim has what it takes to become famous or magic. This has been the way I've been playing the sims1 and I like it a lot, it gives my sims more of an feeling of personality and aspirations.
I say live as “lihv” because the other two modes are verbs; they live in Live mode, you buy in Buy mode, and you build in Build mode

I've always said 'Live Mode' like the verb, 'to live', because build and buy are also verbs so to me that has always made sense. But having heard other people say it the other way, I think they're both equally valid. Is there actually an official way to say it or is it up to interpretation?
I played the first game a lot as a child/teenager, but I have never been back to it since playing the second game. I don't think I'd want to play a game without wants and fears.

I really wish Bob & Betty were still around in the Sims 2, I would love to be able to invite them to Brandi's wedding or even just move Brandi in with them so she has a bit of help until she gets off her feet again (or finds a second husband)! Maybe Maxis thought that being an option was "too easy" though XD

I have a headcanon that Betty and Bob got the house and money from her parents when they passed (they were pretty wealthy in the sims 3) and then never worked a day in their lives. Betty tried selling one of those awful self-help books, but never really got much money from it (I believe that's part of one of the console games). So as they raised Brandi and grew older, they used up all the money they had inherited and died, leaving her to parent her own kids with another poor sim, Skip Broke. Even their trailer was passed on from his family, they never had a single thing to their name. If only Betty and Bob could have been more prudent in their time, maybe their story would be a lot different.
I say “live” with the short vowel sound, because I’m living in live mode and building/buying in build/buy mode. But idgaf how others say it in their own games and anyone who corrects you is silly 🤪😅
One thing I find interesting about Betty is that her maiden's name is Simovitch and her parents are Vadim and Fatima. So she's half Eastern European, half Middle Eastern, which is quite unique!

I still play Sims 1 now and then. It is hard to keep the motives up and for them to still have a life beyond work and keeping up with needs.

Funny, I was just playing a lot of Sims1 lately! Playing with Makin Magic. Finally built my witch a big witchy cabin. Sims1 sims are always so easily tired and uncomfortable... relatable lol. ALSO, idk if this is well known, but I had such a hard time getting my sims to make friends with any npc sims... I found out you have to send the pre-made sims to another lot and come back and their interests will update, because for some reason half of them are empty at start- which makes them really disagreeable and give negative relationship because they have no interest in shit!
I build the sims 1 community lots and some houses from the sims 1, it is really fun
I play as Bob and Betty in TS4 often, EA has them on the gallery. But I just have such fond tutorial memories of them, I adore playing them out. Lol

My Bob was basically a bum & didn't work, he married 4 women, brought his others wives to live in the home with Betty. She wasn't happy always having to clean up after him, while holding down a full time job & watching their marriage go down the drain 😂.

I think given it says "live turns the situation on" in the sims 1 I think it's live as in, jive. But in reality I interchange between both pronunciations

Thank you for correctly saying Live instead of live. Saying "live mode" is something a child would do as a mistake because they don't know better. If a radio host or person on air said, "We're going live!" they would sound pretty stupid. It's a big pet peeve of mine when watching sim youtubers.
I say live mode as in living in a simulation, they come to life in live mode.
I'd love the series in TS1! Also, you can age up your kids using the magic or some cheats. That's what I do, I have many generations of sims. But you need to have a family tree written down outside of the game, as the game doesn't recognize family ties.
You Build in Build Mode. You Buy in Buy Mode. You Live in Live Mode. That's how I've always gone about it.
Having buy and build mode unified isnt a bad idea… building modes have stuff that can be considered items

Live mode, as in you are live streaming. We had a debate in Beth's/TeaAddict's stream over the correct way to say it so we made a poll lol. Us Live modes won, but it was close!
