      Has anyone mentioned the “harass” interactions elders could do with canes? You could harass a sim, shaking your cane at someone (mean interaction) , or just stomp around and “harass world” (it was a ‘go here’ option)to grouch about in general. Mean sims would do it autonomously. I loved it.

    • @NawiTheCore
      @NawiTheCore 3 ปีที่แล้ว +27

      TS3 does have a little bit of that. If your elder owns a cane, you can use it to harass people with the cane.

    In the sims 3 you can throw funerals for any death in the family, even pets. Its so cool all the guests arrive wearing all black and give their condolences and your sim can give a speech in front of the grave. Its such a neat feature that we took for granted!

    I think elders is one of the aspects of the game that is considered boring, so it is never fixed because "no one cares about them", so they remain boring because they are never fixed, so they are never fixed because they are boring, so they remain boring (and are never fixed)

      @@PleasantSims I'd love more content for them too. Even from a gameplay perspective, it would feel so much more rewarding to care for your sims throughout their lives and unlocking a decent amount of things to do with them once they become elders, than just having them retire and having them sit at home until they pass

    • @merchantfan
      @merchantfan 3 ปีที่แล้ว +44

      @@flamingo2946 Exactly. I want lots of whims to yell at kids to get off my lawn. I want to constantly ask my kids for grandchildren or have the constant desire to tell kids about my grandchildren. I want to complain about how "things are like they used to be". Basically, I liked the reminiscing of Sims 3, but like I want to also be able to more easily create my stubborn old man. I'd also like it to be easier to have a "late middle age" thing so that my hot still pretty young looking adults don't all suddenly turn 90 at once. In Sims 3 I'd give the adults white or gray hairs at a certain point to show they were aging (though if they had kids after you did that they might also have gray hair). In Sims 4 I initially have elders dye their hair so they look a little bit younger. I also just want way more clothes for old people. I shouldn't have to sort through a million crop tops to find something my elder doesn't look weird in. Like why not make clothes that are generally inappropriate outside of an age group into a checkbox of age groups that you can uncheck like the male/female clothes and hair styles? That way my lady who still wants to be a young adult can look sad in a crop top and everyone else can have some nice granny dresses or slacks and nightgowns. A lot of the young adult clothing looks super sad on elders

    • @kaityfen
      @kaityfen 3 ปีที่แล้ว +55

      Whoever has decided that every life stage other than young adult is "boring" needs to lose their job. Elders could be sooo much fun. Devious elders that "steal the rolls" at restaurants or play special pranks on kids. Funny little moodlets about squeaky hearing aids. Elder specific hobbies (Nifty Knitting's utter failure). They just don't try whatsoever.

      Well to be honest, children, by default, only take 8 days to age up to teen. Elders, by default, take longer to get to the end of their life stage. That means that a child would most likely have time to age up before the elders die.

    • @davidkonevky7372

    I think it would be cool if, once your sim reached elderhood, they would gain one or two new traits exclusive to elders; based on how well your sim has lived (maybe dictated by how many of those aspiration/whim points they have, how well they did in their career, and how many skills they've learned?) your sim would either gain two random negative traits if they did the worst, one negative and one positive if they did decent, two positive if they did good, and if they did great, you the player can decide yourself what traits they should have.
    Negative traits could be something like "weak-heart" which would make the sim more likely to die from exhaustion (but the better your sim's athletic skill is, the less likely your sim is to get it randomly), "out of touch" which will make your sim worse with electronics and sometime gain negative moodlets when talking to young adult sims, "grouchy" which makes your sim gain a negative moodlet when it's too noisy or when they're near children (but this trait can't be gained by sims with certain traits, like "cheerful"), or "forgetful" which works similarly to the absent-minded trait in Sims 3 (this trait would then be less likely to occur the better your sim's logic skill is)
    Positive traits could include traits like "proud grandparent" only available to elder sims with grandkids and would give them a special bond with their grandkids that both fills their social need faster but also helps the grandkid sims learn skills faster, and give special happy moodlets, "still in my prime" which will make it so your sim doesn't get exhausted like you demonstrated in the video, "silver fox/cougar" which not only gives your sim special confident and flirty moodlets, but can also give special flirty moodlets to sims they flirt with, and makes it impossible to die of exhaustion from woohoo, or "wise" which will not only make your sim less likely to get mad or sad over small things like insults or accidents, but will also make your sim learn mental skills quicker

    • @lannamcf
      @lannamcf 3 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      Elder exclusive traits are a good idea, but it would be better if we choose them regardless of how well they have done in their life. Of course some of those could be only available if the elder meets the certain criteria.

    • @merchantfan
      @merchantfan 3 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      Yeah like "Wise" or "Nurturing" if they aged up well or "Crotchety" or "Washed Up" if bad. Wise would teach skills better and be able to help kids and teens finish homework or gain parenthood 'points' faster. They'd gain Logic, Parenting, and Writing faster. "Nurturing" would be able to take away some minor bad moodlets or add good ones. Maybe they could bake special cookies that gave a buff to whoever ate them. They'd gain Knitting, Cooking, and Baking faster.
      "Crotchety" would be really stubborn and give people angry moodlets when they talked to them like "Impossible Old Man/Lady". They'd get the special interaction to "Get Off My Lawn" for kids and teens they see where they chase them away. They get a bunch more complaints and get positive moodlets for mean interactions even if they weren't mean or evil before. Kids would get uncomfortable moodlets around them like "Mean Old Man". They'd get positive moodlets if alone like "Peace and Quiet".
      "Washed Up" would frequently start the day with negative moodlets like sad or uncomfortable. They'd get exhausted more frequently. They'd get special interactions like "You Should Have Seen Me Back in the Day" and "I Used To Be a Real Looker" as a romantic interaction. These would give positive moodlets to the Sim but uncomfortable or sad ones to the listener and would usually lose relationship

    One change that I think would make it better though is if the clothing were tagged to the different age groups and then filtered by default like it is for feminine/masculine or the different outfit categories. That way the option is still there but only when you want it.

I really thought Kniffy Knitting was a miss when they didn't have 'old man' clothes and more things to do for elders. Elders can be boring to play because they don't have enough unique things about them to make them interesting.

    I want interactions like 'impart wisdom' onto children and grandchildren, or 'i am so proud' after their kid graduates or gets a promotion, i want them to tell stories, write memoirs, i want adult sims to call their parents as free babysitters if they are alive, i want some sort of hospice care rabbit hole, i want disease to affect them more, i want negative interactions like 'criticize life choices' or a phone call pop up like 'why don't you call me anymore?!', also i would love if potential spouses could ask their s.o.'s parents 'permission to marry their child' and their relationship score affects the outcome.
    the 'show off grandkids' from the sims 3 is the cutest thing, also canes are fantastic as well.
    hobbies like, games, puzzles, birdwatching, bingo etc. would all fill up their retirment.
    i want a 'funeral' party system to properly mourn them when they die. i want sims to 'talk to' gravestone instead of just mourning it so they can try to feel connected to their dead elders. maybe even have the ghost show up to listen but the sim can't see them. i think something like that would be really sweet.
    i want a tag system for 'teen clothes' and 'elder clothes' that exists by default but like with the gender tags of 'masculine' or 'feminine' it can be removed if you want clothes from another life state for a specific reason. All the knitted sweaters, crocs and high waisted jeans please

    Elders have always been my least favourite life stage. Usually by then they've already completed whatever goals I had for them so I end up just trying to find things for them to do and waiting for them to die. This could be especially frustrating in Sims 3 because you had no idea when they were going to die. In Sims 2 I remember creating a retirement home and just moving my elder Sims in there so that I at least had all the elders in one place.

    I think that in the sims 2 you can't just have elders with kids without an "adult sim" because they die at a certain exact time. If it was just elders with kids, the kids would be alone when the elders die, resulting in a "game over". In the sims 3, for example, the death of the elders is random, so it is easy for the game to postpone it till the baby/kid/teen gets to the age of adulthood. Hugs! :)

    In terms of appearance, 2 and 4’s adults look like people in their 60s to 70s
    While sims 3’s elders look like they are people in their 80s and above.
    If In a future sims generation they add more than the usual lifestates they could have two sets of elders, one could be seniors where the sims look like adults in their 60s and 70s while the 2nd part of the elder stage which can be called elders, can look more plump or skinny and look like people on the 80-90s age range. Toddlers are my least favourite life stage but elder is right up there, particularly in the Sims 4, but yes, all games. When my sims became elders, I tried to still play them as enthusiastically as I did before but it really does seem to be a 'throw-away' life stage. Basically, you're just waiting for them to die so you can get them out of your hair. To say that is totally unfair to elders is a colossal understatement. (About to date myself here) I continue to watch an old 80s t.v. sitcom called the Golden Girls. For those that don't know, it's a sitcom about 3 middle-aged women and 1 elderly woman (mother of one of the characters). These four girls show that life doesn't end because you hit a certain age. In the Sims, however, it does, for all intents and purposes. I would love to see more content for elders. Community Center volunteer and charity work, for example. Special clubs and associated events; perhaps even dance events specifically for elders. A matchmaker for elders (because who wants to grow old alone - especially if you are widowed already) as a service (such as Community Center speed-dating). Elders would be ideal for arranging and organizing parties and events, particularly for the jet-set, corporate go-getters (think: the Fengs). Playing an elder should be as much fun as playing any other life stage, just different. I'm getting up there myself and believe me, I can really appreciate this entire video. :)

You also had a character whose son was a cross dresser and she blamed his wife for it but after his death his wife said it was no one’s fault and that he was a wonderful man. I think TS4 has a lot of interaction and many of them are open for you to do at any time in Sim's life. There are some that could easily be exclusive to the elderly, such as storytelling or mentoring.
    Some other things can be done with game systems to shake things up, such as creating a group of seniors with the club system.
    I think one thing they could implement is to add some traits automatically to the elderly sim as the mentor trait. Another thing would be to amplify the effects of traits on the elderly. A mean old man would be much more mean.

    My elders always die from working out in the home gym. They do it by themselves and then they die but that may just be Slice of life?

    Big disagree on being limited to certain clothes within certain age groups. They shouldn't take away that ability from us ever again. why would you want less options? Also, try to be fair, it's weird that you dissed on the sims 4 reminisce but praised the sims 3 friendly social which was pretty much the same thing.

    I got the worst glitch in my legacy save (sims4) a while back bc of retirement. My sim was an astronaut and he retired with a hefty retirement pay. Then suddenly, he stopped getting it after i saved and exited my game the one day and came back the next day??? I had to retroactively cheat him back up his career ladder and retire him using mc command center. I wish the retirement features in ts4 could be better because you honestly can't do anything special with elders until they die, and because you have less flexibility with lifespan than you did in ts3, i usually just have to "wait it out" because i don't often kill sims off 😑😑😑

    I would like to see some special kind of books for elders. Doing some puzzle games or cross words in newspaper to train their brain. Not sure if it's in sims 4,but in sims 3 mood back pain is quite common, so something like that would be interesting. Some traits like wise, grumpy, forgetful etc. Maybe some heritage system would be nice. If an elder dies, relatives will get an option to sell into house or move in.

    you can't have a household of just elders and kids in sims 2 because elders are gonna die soon and the kids would be alone without guardians

    Elder: I am an adult.

    I remember when I used to play the sims 4 the vacation lot kind of bugged for my game so, I couldn't leave and my kid that just went camping for their birthday to an young adult lost their father due to old age. The family line lasted for about 4 to 5 generations. Couldn't get a partner for that kid after they had to witness that. 😢

    Sims 4 has no respect for the elders 😣
    And that grandpa in the Sims 3 has some pointy eyebrows 😂

    I’ve always used elders as caretakers for their grandchildren so i can have the parents focus on their career and relationships

    I don’t know if I remember correctly, but I think when an elder died in Sims 2 their family got something like an heritage? I’m really not sure correct me if I’m wrong 🤔

      Inhertiance, yes, also depending on the relationship .. I think the widow/widower always got most amount of money, then children, then grandchildren, buy only if they had good relationship and the deceased sim was at least in green when they died. "Best case" was to have them in platinum, after the hula girls the family would receive several thousands 🤓

    i like the fact that elders have the same clothes as teens and adults it's more realistic, of course most elders irl wouldn't be wearing hot pants but it's always an option lol

    Idk why I really loved playing elders in sims 3!😭 In sims 4 it's weird and boring unless you have a bunch of cute elder cc. Pfft sims 4 is about the aesthetic. Sims 3 and 2 gave you gameplay !

    Honestly, nowadays I don't think limiting clothing for elders makes sense anymore. Today's elders aren't really like the ones from even 15 years ago. Go to any punk show and the place will be filled with grey haired people. I think the bigger, but apparently financially sensible, problem is that young adults are the emphasis of the series ever since Sims 3. With the use of rotational play scaled back, most simmers will naturally put all of their efforts into playing as the young sims. And the fact that elders are neglected means that even less people will spend much time focusing on elders thus contributing to EA deciding that adding more to them isn't what the community wants.

    One of my elder sims in Sims 4 got pregnant. She called her daughter to ask for advice, "Should so-and-so and I try for a baby?" When the (adult) daughter responded, "You? A parent?!" She said something like, "That's it, I'm going to try for a baby right now!" I thought it was just a joke but then two days later she was pregnant and gave birth (then died a few days later). I had no idea she could get pregnant!
    ETA I have no mods and I have never seen this happen before. This just happened last weekend.
