Ok, to start off with, awesome reaction, dude and ... just wanted you to know that Rosanna refers to Rosanna Arquette, the woman Steve Porcaro had been dating. They picked this girl specifically, BECAUSE she resembled her. What's weird about it is, Steve did NOT write the song ... keyboardist David Paich did ... yep, the one who started off the song in the video for Hold The Line that you recently reacted to. Please find and read my other post in the comments section on Jeff Porcaro and this band. I put those comments there (instead of here) because I felt others may not read this comment unless they open these replies to see it. In it, however, I have a section that details a slew of bands he either played with, or for, and I think you'd really like knowing that stuff too. However, I also wanted to point out, there were THREE (3) Porcaro brothers in this group, off and on ... 1) Jeff Porcaro, of course (drummer), Mike Porcaro (the bassist) and Steve Porcaro, the other keyboardist (besides David Paich). BTW, I was just watching a reaction to Seals and Crofts' live video for their song, Diamond Girl, and NOTICED Jeff Porcaro on drums and, all of a sudden, the drum pattern for THIS SONG hit me like a ton of bricks, and I immediately thought of Ricki Lee Jones' song, Chuck E's In Love and the shuffle pattern he did there. So, I looked it up and, OMG ... sure enough, he also a very similar, but remnant snippet of this shuffle at one point (right where they do an obvious break before the final verse/end). So, what got me is I had an epiphany all in a single moment, and my answer within a minute. I love when that happens.
The drummer is the heart of the band. Bass follows drummer, everything else follows that. You have a bad drummer, you have a bad band.Bad bass player, bad band. But shout out to drummers!!!
About 5 years ago I was watching this video & 1 comment I came across was "the hot girl in the red dress is somebody's great grandma now😂 Actually a true but funny statement.
This band was made up of top flite studio musicians, based in Los Angeles. Staying busy in the studio meant they didn't tour much. Shout out to Jerry Hey in the horn section, playing trumpet.
@@karaokekraziness3891 Luke has refuted that on numerous occasions. To begin with, why would Paich write a song like that about Porcaro's girlfriend? The truth, as mentioned often by Paich and Luke is that her name happened to fit so well with the tune.

I'm with as a drummer. This shuffle is out of this world. So hard to follow what his snare hand is doing with all the fills as he rides the hi hat with the steady shuffle beat. The whole band are top of the top incredible musicians and I'm so glad all these once just studio musicians decided to form a band and give is all this great music. A true legendary musically story.

David Paich (keyboards, vocals) and Jeff Porcaro (drums) David Hungate (bass), Steve Lukather (guitar, vocals) Steve Porcaro (keyboards, vocals), and Bobby Kimball (vocals)
I think you can still find a video here on YT of Jeff Porcaro talking about the Rosanna half time shuffle from this song and how he came up with it. As others have pointed out, he took the classic Purdie half time shuffle and added some Bonham and some Bo Didley beat. The dude was a top tier drummer who passed way too soon.
David Hungate (not the bassist in the video) was the bassist for the first 4 albums, but quit after recording the final track of Toto 4. That's when Mike Porcaro joined the band, making 3 Porcaro's in the band, and it's he who appears in this and the Africa videos.

A banger of all bangers! Bobby Kimballs’ vocals are insane! The girl in the video married Richard Marx(they have kids but are now divorced) Mike Pacaro is on bass… Jeff’s brother
Someone may have already posted this, but a little known fact about this song, (and like "The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald" by Gordon Lightfoot) is that the track we are listening to is THE VERY FIRST STUDIO TAKE. Yes, it is literally their initial run through of the song brought to them on sheet music by David Paich. Fact is, "Toto" was a made up band of professional muscians who had played on Michael Jackson's, and Steely Dan album tracks. Amazing.
A couple of cool things about the video is that the female dancer in red is Cynthia Rhodes from the movie Dirty Dancing. Also, Patrick Swayze is one of the male background dancers. He also wrote and recorded the song She's Like the Wind from Dirty Dancing. I love your reactions. You are definitely one of my favs.❤
