It was a joke. "The song was written by David Paich, who has said that the song is based on numerous girls he had known. As a joke, the band members initially played along with the common assumption that the song was based on Rosanna Arquette, who was dating Toto keyboard player Steve Porcaro at the time. Arquette herself played along with the joke, commenting in an interview that the song was about "my showing up at 4 a.m., bringing them juice and beer at their sessions"

Along with Peter Gabriel's IN YOUR EYES, (after dating her briefly) this song is also written about the singer's love interest, ROSSANNA ARQUETE (Brother David was in the SCREAM MOVIES, her sister,Patricia, the star of NBC's MEDIUM). This made her the 2nd most written about woman in rock history with Eric Clapton/George Harrison's ex wife, Patti Boyd (having nearly 10 songs written about her) being the first.

A little fact people don't know, that ending was never rehearsed. It was only supposed to end with Rosanna, but David Paich (Keyboardist) and Jeff Porcaro (Drummer) improvised the ending part and the band just kept going, in an interview with Steve Lukather (Guitarist) from 2022 from Sunset sound he mentioned that and said, "You don't stop until the band stops". Also its worth mentioning the bassist who played on this record isn't the same guy in the music video, David Hungate was their original bassist but left in 1982 which was then replaced with Mike Porcaro who unfortunately passed away from ALS 9 years ago following the death of his brother Jeff Porcaro back in 1992, David Hungate would return however for Toto XIV in 2015 but would only tour with them from when the album released that same year, they've had other bassists since Mike's unfortunate diagnosis it 2007, other bassists including the Legend Leland Sklar, Nathen East, David Hungate for Toto XIV, Shem von Schroeck, and their latest and current bassist John Pierce.

It's always fun and it kind of blows my mind to see the guys with Toto again and the reactions/comments about them. With Toto you have some of the most crack musicians of their era. These guys have played on albums that have sold hundreds of millions of albums including Steely Dan, Springstein and Boz Scaggs. Tom Scott also plays horns on this track, he arranged the horns and plays on SD's Aja album.
I guess I'm kind of bias, I went to HS with the guys in LA, Jeff, Mike, Steve Porcaro, Lukather and Paich, it was a wild and musical time be be in HS to say the least! Tom Scott also went to my HS along with drummer Jim Gordon and Kevin Dubrow of Quiet Riot, I didn't like him much. It's still all very strange.
En Toto=In Total, all genres of music. These memories make it a great time to still be alive!

Just a little information about Toto. Several of the members were very in demand studio musicians. There is a very famous '70s singer named Boz Scaggs, and his hit album in the mid '70s called Silk Degrees has several of Toto's members as the studio band. Boz actually suggested to them that they should start their own band and shortly after that Toto existed. The woman who was dancing in the video is Cynthia Rhodes. She is a triple threat dancer, singer, and actress. She was famously in Dirty Dancing as Patrick swayze's friend who was pregnant. She was also in another famous video by Richard Marx, who she later married, called "Don't mean nothing". But my favorite thing that she did was she was in part two of Saturday Night Fever with John Travolta, a movie called "Staying Alive". You have to listen to her song "finding out the hard way" from the soundtrack of the movie. She has a beautiful voice. Back to Toto, please do "hold the line". If you liked Bobby Kimball's voice in Rosanna, you're going to love his lead vocals on "hold the line". th-cam.com/video/TzI_UfrE-2U/w-d-xo.htmlsi=iBL9CE3Wcn8xqZNw

Glad to see this song and band blew you away, as it should 😊. Now, before you let too much time pass with other songs and artists reactions, I would highly recommend you react to Toto’s first single which broke them to mainstream pop success and that song is “Hold The Line” which for me is part of what I refer to as Toto’s musical holy Trinity of Toto songs the Holy Trinity which along with the aforementioned “Hold The Line” includes this rock-groove masterpiece “Rosanna” and of course “Africa”. Really looking forward to seeing you experiencing and reacting to “Hold The Line”

Nearly all the dudes in Toto went to my rival high school. I went to Jeff Porcaro's house when I was a kid to listen to him bang the skins as I was often swimming at the neighbors house. I told him Peter Criss was better! 😂😂😂 RIP Jeff. ❤

Although it is Dave Hungate playing bass on the audio, the bass player appearing in the video is Mike Pocaro, brother of drummer Jeff Pocaro & keyboardist Steve Pocaro. He replaced Hungate after they recorded this album.

My man Salvo G... I don't know how good your fan base is, but what I know for sure, they don't throw to you any crap and this has to be both beacause you have a good taste on music and while you are pleasent person, people won't want to troll you so you get just quite honest feedfack, but I would preciate in war situation an honest and reliable person as you any day of my life if that ever comes. Not all things nor anything else is granted in this life.
