    That was a nice, informative video! I liked that you showed the breakage of the other point in there to add a little humor and to show what it's like to work with natural materials.

      @DPelk... Breaking the piece is part of Flintknapping... It is best to laugh it off and move on... The knife making video also had a knapping mistake. We are used to it.

    I used to do this kind of stuff all the time before I lost contact with my dad, now I don't do this stuff with him anymore and don't have the time because I got older which means more responsibilities. Maybe one day I'll try to do this kind of stuff again.

    everytime i break one it seems like i grip the arrowhead to hard, currently I'm trying to develop my own technique to help me prevent this.

    • @SenecaRelics
      @SenecaRelics  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Enrique.... We have often broken our points... This is usually a result of bending pressure.. We now use pads with a thin piece of wood glued to the back to prevent the "bending"... You may also have to pay attention to your platforms.. Having a platform too high on the point will cause you to have too much pressure and may break the point. A proper platform should release the flake with minimal effort. Good luck and let us know how it goes...!

    • @SenecaRelics
      @SenecaRelics  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      @RMurray..... The next Flint Ridge Knap-In is Friday/Saturday Sept 1st and 2nd (Weekend before Labor Day)... Many vendors arrive earlier than that but the best of the event is the 1st and 2nd... The event is held at the Flint Ridge State Park, Brownsville Ohio.

      @SuperC... As you can see by our vid that our method only works with notched points... If you watch the vid carefully, you should be able to do it yourself with just a piece of wire. LOL... But we would be happy to wire one up for you. Let us know.

    I think people are too critical....these types need to just cool it. They push perfection to a point, no pun intended, where you start breaking your work. Then they laugh. Where they hang out are the knap-ins. The Indians didn't make them perfect.
