  • In response to many viewer requests to see more "How to" and flintknapping videos from me I thought I would show you how I make an arrowhead necklace. I have made hundreds of these over the last 35 years and I decided to show just how I do it. In the first part I chip out the arrowhead from a flake of beautiful Flintridge Chalcedony, then tie it on a small wooden shaft. I show how I make Deer skin cord and then put it all together to complete the necklace. I hope you enjoy this video and that it inspires you to make your own arrowhead necklace!

    That is kool Ken. You should make a batch of those, I'd buy one....The proceeds could go towards your Wheel Horse hobby collection.

    Very nice! I agree the glass beads are better. They have a nice sheen to them make a noise when clink together, don't have the weird ridge like the cheap plastic beads do. They also look more authentic . With a strip of leather and several beads you can make the arrowhead standout like an outstanding piece of artwork. Thank you for showing how you do this necklace.

      I made a killer Otter Creek Point out of a piece of the esopus you gave to me a while back. I chipped it out last night and wow! that stuff is tough, but I like the looks of it. I don't think there are many stones that are as beautiful as Flintridge Chalcedony, I love working with it.

    You are a fantastic teacher. Last fall at Letchworth you fixed a rough spot on a point for me. Then I watched you knock out a fantastic Snyder's point for that young family. You are an inspiration to me.
    Is the fall knapp in still on? Any others you know about before fall Letchworth. I'm jonesing bad to learn more and be around all the awesome people that I met last year at several events.
    Thank you
    Peace

      Sadly the summer Letchworth Knap-in has been canceled but I have my fingers crossed that that late Fall event will happen, we have to get on with our lives and not wait for covid to go away. As long as people use safe practices, life should go on as usual, so let's hope by then that normalcy has returned. I remember you well from that last Fall knap-in. I had such a great time there, and met some amazing folks. Thanks so much for your kind comments, they are deeply appreciated. I hope to make more videos like this one and share what I have learned and I will keep it simple, like me, LOL!

    Awesome. I’m going to make one. Do you do much indirect percussion?

    • @Paleoman52
      @Paleoman52  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I rarely use indirect percussion but I see that it produces some really good results. I've always been a hands on guy and wanted to just pick up a rock and then bang it into an arrowhead with as simple tools and techniques as possible. If you make a necklace I'd love to see it. Take care my friend, I think of you often!

    Is there a company that sells supplies dedicated just two doing flint-knapping and the arrowhead necklace supplies and stuff like that

    • @Paleoman52
      @Paleoman52  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      There are 2 really good sites for flintknapping supplies, one is neolithics.com and the other is flintknappingtools.com As far as the other materials you may have to search the web for them. You can get the wooden shafts at hardware stores and the glass beads and artificial sinew can be found on amazon or ebay. The Deer hide thongs I make from Deer hide leather that I trade for, but I'm sure you can find Deer leather also on line.

    HELP!
    MAKING A KNIFE FROM A BLANK!
    Somebody please tell me how to fix my blank PLEASE?
    I just started, did better than I expected however the blank slab I started with the flakes didn't go enough across, so I'm left with the flat unpolished slab in the center of my project!
    Did I articulate that well enough for someone to bail me out?
    Is this a fixable situation?
    👉✌💚👈

    • @Paleoman52
      @Paleoman52  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have had that same thing happen to me too, especially when working a slab, sometimes if those flakes won't travel across the piece I have heard that it may have to be reground and that is a huge pain in the butt. I would suggest trying to use spalls or large flakes to make a knife blade from as these tend to be better for getting your flakes to travel across the surface. make sure you hit the platform edge hard as this should help push those flakes across and be sure to support the piece well before you give it a hard strike to keep it from breaking. Good Luck!

    So Cool👍! How much ?

    • @Paleoman52
      @Paleoman52  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      When I have them available to sell I usually ask $20.00 for them. I have always charged this and don't ever plan on raising the price. :)
