Have you seen Rekkai's Deep Dive? - th-cam.com/video/RcF-uiI6Wt4/w-d-xo.html
Thank you bro! Why this keeps hating on my comments, I will never know!
Yep!!
The two of you are batman and Robin rekkai is batman
The old dude selling newspapers is played by the legendary actor/entertainer Bernard Cribbins. He played one of the Doctor's companions in the second of two movies made in the 60s starring Peter Cushing (Grand Moff Tarkin) as the Doctor. He was also in consideration for the role of the Fourth Doctor.
That is excellent! Thank you for that! I love call backs and easter eggs!
Wow!! I didn't know he was almost Four!!! Hmmm.... [CONSIDERS ALTERNATIVE REALITY :)]
@IsiahBradley He came close, but he told the producer that his many and varied talents included stage fighting. The producer replied "Doctor Who does not fight" and that was the end of that.
@@MJE-riffs "We don't want you to have any additional skills we won't use."
The character is also, ahem, an old soldier. No spoilers. IYKYK
Kylie Minogue was/is the Madonna from the 80s (in UK/AUS) so this was star-casting back in the day and helped this story become the highest rating episode ever.
Madonna was the Madonna of the 80s. Kylie was the Kylie of the 80s and more so in the 90s.
In england the money is called "pounds or quid" not "dollars or bucks".
The actor who plays the old man Mr. Copper is played by Clive Swift who is best known as the long suffering husband Richard Bouquet (pronounced mistakenly as Bucket) from the british sitcom "Keeping Up Appearances" he has also previously been in Classic Who as a different character in 1985.
This episode was also a tribute to Verity Lambert who was the first female and original producer of "Doctor Who" who sadly passed away of cancer aged 72 in 2007.
I saw Kylie at Glastonbury 2019, I was probably the only one in the crowd thinking 'hey it's that woman off Dr Who'
The rest of us would have been thinking "That's Charlene from Neighbours.."
"These are cheeks that thou shall not clap, Doctor" 💀
Mr Cooper is well known as Richard Bucket
Kylie Minogue is wonderful in this episode
You guys totally didn’t realise that was Kylie Minogue 😂 No way was she joining as the companion.
I did. Just saved it for my deep dive. Have you seen it yet?
Actually they thought about making
her a season long companion but like you they thought no we can't get her but iirc turns out with if they'd asked with a bit of juggling they could (it's either Catherine or Kylie i read this but i'm sure it was Kylie).
@@nupefromdaville I have now 😅
@@binrotheheretic8174 that’s one crazy alternative timeline
Good Lord, I was in high school in the 80’s and didn’t realize it was her. 🤦♀️
This is the most viewed episode of the show ever! Combine the peak of the show's popularity as a Christmas staple with Kylie Minogue and that's what you get.
The “what the hell” at the angel robots flying the doctor up into the air 😂 one of the best moments in all of DW 😂
So glad to be back! Have you checked out my deep dive for this episode?
Truth is it rarely snows in the UK for Christmas anymore, but RTD wants the Christmas episodes to look festive so he keeps coming up with excuses to have snow at the end.
rip Astrid doctor who’s shortest lived companion
Could've done with atleast a season.
Linda from Season 1 might've been equally as short
@@camillealvarado9357 I think you mean Lynda with a y!
"Santa Clause, and his wife Mary" - Mary Christmas, everybody!
LOLOLOLOL
Santa, with claws!
So many well known actors in this ep!
Looking forward to the season 4 reactions, it's one of my favourite seasons in all of Who
I can't wait until they're done with the first half of Season 4--the episodes before the Specials.
The actor playing the tour guide was in the UK sitcom Keeping Up Appearances. The ship Captain actor was in As Time Goes By with Dame Judi Dench.
I remember Geoffrey Palmer in Butterflies and Fall and Rise of Reginald Perrin as well.
"As Time Goes By" is one of my favorite sitcoms.
Geoffrey Palmer was also in one of the Bond movies in which Dench played M.
Keeping Up Appearances was one of my FAVE shows as a kid; I'll never see this actor and not just hear "RICH-AAAARD!!" 😂
This and "Twice Upon a Time" are my favorite Christmas episodes. Plus that Murray Gold music was rocking hard in this one. On a side note, as much as I liked Astrid, I didn't feel we needed another regular companion falling for the Doctor this soon after Rose and Martha. It would have been nice to have her around for a few more episodes, though.
The new version of the theme introduced in this episode is probably in the top 5 best versions of the doctor who theme imo. Also it’s great to see you guys back watching Doctor who!
We couldn't wait to be back!
I used to watch Kylie in the Australian soap opera Neighbours. She also played Cammy in Street Fighter The Movie starring Jean Claude Van Damme.
I always forget Kylie Minogue is in the episode 😂
Love Kylie in this episode.
I'm a little sad they didn't watch the short "prolouge" in a sense to this Christmas Special, "Time Crash", before this... It's not needed, but was so fun to see Tennant fan boy.
Great reaction to the special! I love the after chat between you two!
We meant to but literally forgot. We may still get it in though
Yeah, that's a shame. It was the first multi-Doctor story in Nu-Who. Hopefully they'll get to it.
@@nupefromdaville It happens. No worries! Thanks!
Recently found your reactions , and would like to say they are are pure joy to watch thank you ,I've enjoyed watching these episodes through fresh eyes , I've been a fan for 52 years but am new to youtube ,love your honesty in your analysis after as well , welcome to the whoniverse and this bonkers sprawling fandom.
Thank you for uploading this 😂 been waiting like an addict, but fr tho i appreciate the work you put into your videos.
Series 4 is great, I think you will really enjoy it. Kylie was terrific as Astrid, but she had an album to launch and a tour to do, so she was never going to be in the show long term.
This episode was a perfect mix of the titanic and the Poseidon adventure with a doctor who twist.
When you said, "Where's Rose and Jack? They should have been standing right out there," I thought you meant Rose Tyler and Jack Harkness.
Same!
I knew they meant the movie but it was the first time I realized the names were the same, like I had never noticed that before so that was neat!
(Although wouldn't that be something if Nine did take Rose and Jack there during their adventures? We know from Season 1 Episode 1 that Nine specifically did visit that time period, as one of Clive's photos of the Doctor had him posing with a family that was meant to board the Titanic but didn't...)
@@Persewna4 Yes, true. I really loved Clive.
Kylie Minogue, star of the world's most famous banned lingerie ad (I'm not responsible for what you Google) as Astrid. Because Astrid is an anagram of TARDIS, a lot of people thought that would be significant. It wasn't. Tennant's Doctor mentions Kylie (in her real-life role as pop princess) in his first story.
He absolutely did! Nice!
Nice cheeky advert
I just watched the ad. I am forever in your debt :)
Do react to Time Crash
Love having these reactions back!!
Syntell. I really hope you get into Classic Who. There was a minisode before this episode that's still on TH-cam called Time Crash. It was a special made for a charity called Children In Need. Tennants' Doctor literally ends up seeing his past self (Peter Davison) and it's the most wholesome funny thing you'll see in your life.
We were supposed to but literally forgot about it. We may still get it in.
@@nupefromdaville I still have it saved for you guys.
@@nupefromdaville Trust me. You won't regret it. Especially with this season and who plays a titular character in it.
It was not a Doctor from an alternate universe. It was 10 with 5. The Doctor was having an adventure with himself.
@@michaelfinlay6341 Caves of Androzani episode. as well as the quote "In some timelines, we regenerate, in others, we don't." prove otherwise. The Doctor knows EVERY outcome. We saw that in Parting of the Ways.
Can’t wait till the next heheheee 💯👍👍👍😁😁😁
They are about to experience The Doctor Donna ❤
They said they don't want spoilers.
Kylie Minogue was so good in this but she might have been too expensive to have as a regular companion. Also half expected her to sing a Christmas song in this but i guess that's like expecting her to sing in Street Fighter.
She was just too busy. And yeah, too expensive. She performs her single "Two Hearts" (not deliberately a Time Lord reference but a nice coincidence) at the BBC New Year celebrations that also has David Tennant on the show which was quite sweet.
One of her team was a massive Who fan and styled some dancers with cyberman -type helmets on her tour and that led to communication with the Doctor Who production office and her getting a guest spot.
I'm so excited you're on season 4!! Favorite season and my favorite companion!
I’m so happy you guys have come back to the older episodes , I’m honestly not enjoying the newest season 14 , You are absolutely going to LOVE Season 4 and the new ( ish) companion ❤
I can’t wait for series 4 reactions
3 strong episodes in a row in season 14 now. Didn't enjoy Doctor Who so much in 15 years.
Glad to have our favourite reactors back 👋🧡 Whovians miss you. The Christmas Special with Kylie Minogue was fun and a prelude to the highly anticipated next series. Look forward to your new Dr Who reactions too. Don't make us wait too long 😍
Based more on the Poseidon adventure than titanic.
Yes, true.
People know more about an actual disaster than some silly movies from the '70's.
@@michaelfinlay6341 Possibly . . . Or they know more about a movie from the '90s.
Mr Copper, remember that name 😉
You're about to start the golden age of doctor who. Up next is david tennant's best season, and then moffat's magic after that (my favourite era).
I'm super glad you put up with all the episodes so far, including the few sub-par ones, you'll feel like it was all worth it soon.
Your reactions are just as entertaining as this episode. Made me laugh at certain scenes. Many thanks.
Yes, the journey continues. Cheers Syntell and Rekkai.
mini maul had me creasing
I'm so excited for season 4! ❤
I come back from vacation and you're already episodes into Season 4! I'm sad I'm behind but happy to have all these videos to look forward to!
I agree that the Christmas episodes can be hit or miss, especially being episodes that bridge seasons and therefore feel a bit disconnected from the main flow of the show. I do think this one is entertaining and a number of the characters are fun. I think Kylie does a great job as Astrid, I think she's charming without veering into obnoxious, and her frank attraction to and chemistry with the Doctor is well done. The ending is very bittersweet with the greedy rich guy surviving when so many good people died. I think we're meant to feel the Doctor's frustration on that - of all the people to live, why him? And the older man pointing out that being able to choose would make one a monster feels pointed at the audience as well as the Doctor.
This episode also has one of my favorite characters in the show introduced, cannot wait until they appear again in your rewatch!
You missed a minisode. 'Time crash'
Although it had a Titanic space ship, this episode reminded me more of The Poseidon Adventure than the Titanic movie.
You're in for a wild ride in season 4. You'll love it!
Mr Copper. Remember that name
Remember the old man at that newspaper stand.
"The Girl in the Fireplace" is what happens when a writer comes in for an episode and nobody lets him know what they've been setting up in previous episodes. The Doctor was out of line for that. He was ready to leave Rose in the parallel world before she refused, though, too, so maybe he wasn't as invested as she thought till after it was a traumatic split.
We back 🎉🎉be prepared for the best series in who
Shipman is known as George Sand in being human
The next companion is my favourite of all time, as is Series 4. Prepare to be astonished 🙂
Yay! Tennant reactions again!
Yesssss let's go Ive been waiting for this
I can just say you’re in for another great season.
I've been coming back to your channel everyday to check for new upload since the latest Who episode to see if you've done that one yet. Eagerly waiting for your reaction to that. But this will have to do for now lol.
Ps. no mention of Kylie Minogue!!
so looking forward to season 4
MINI DARTH MAUL stop guys 😭😭😂😂
Hang on to your hats guys.
Great reaction ❤😊
Too many highlights of your banter to list them all! You're on fire my friends! Mini-Maul was a standout 🤣Or "put some respect on my name," "My momma called me this, you gonna too!"
The part about deciding who lives and who dies, that ties really well into this last week's episode Dot & Bubble - It doesn't matter to the Doctor if you're good or bad, the Doctor will try to save you.
Fun personal fact: I've NEVER seen the Titanic movie. I know enough about it to get the major memes and jokes from it, but never watched it.
And yeah, there has been a lot hate for Ncuti's Doc, but by nobody who's opinion I care about. I think Ncuti's Great, I'm really happy he's the Doctor!
It took me a beat to realize you didn’t mean “Captain Jack Harkness and Rose Tyler” when you mentioned Jack and Rose. Ah yeah - Titanic.
WE BACK!!! LET'S GO!!!!
In a way that who group were The Doctor's companions. Most sacrificed themselves.
I haven't seen Season 14 yet I'm still catching up, but I enjoyed Ncuti in the Christmas special. I'm season 10 of New Who.
Kylie is enough for me to like this episode. It's too bad she had to die, cause I would have liked to see a little more of her, maybe as a recurring character.
There was a little companion love in classic Who but they really hit it hard in new Who. I always wonder what they would do if the first Doctor (William Hartnell) was still there. I doubt Rose would have been interested then. lol.
Did you guys watch the minisode, “Time Crash”, before watching this?
Hype to see yall starting next arc
You also seem confused by Mr Copper's interpretation of Christmas on Earth? I don't know if it is different in the USA, but that is a perfect description of Christmas in England, although not everyone eats Turks on Xmas day, just the majority. Hmmm, can't beat a slice of Long Pig with Roast Tatties
"you never know whos going to be added to the team" well sadly the BBC loves... i mean LOVES making a huge deal about when people are leaving, when we are getting a new doctor or companion, who is going to play them etc. Just like their "next time" bs at the end which a lot of times pops up so fast without much warning. They love spoiling the crap out of stuff. Like i try to avoid trailers and news on the shows but its so hard with this show stuff just pops up. Even watching other youtubers because they just figure well its public knowledge in the who space that a companion is leaving or that the doctor is leaving so its safe to mention right?
lol this is so accurate, even their titles spoil things like "daleks in manhatten". I literally have to avoid all new Doctor who news/updates regarding s14.
@@boombam5214 its almost as bad as one piece lol..... though one piece titles are BS "Usopp dies!" yea i say that about literally every character every episode because its basically a meme how much plot armor everyone in that show has. everyone survives even the most lethal of blows. they animate some of the stuff like mortal kombat fatalities then the person just has a bandage on the next episode meh hes fine.
Sorry, but was Timecrash done? If so, point me in the right direction… 👍🏼
Im not that big on the Christmas specials in general, HOWEVER I do appreciate the nerve of such a high death count. Tis the season and all that lol
Wondering when we get to see your take on Dot and Bubble.
Eff the haters. They’re not real fans.
Just a tidbit the character ASTRID is am anagram of TARDIS😅
Hey he didn't have to trash Buckingham Palace, DW ain't afraid of trashing icons, remember they broke the Tower where Big Ben lives. Also, pretty much the Titanic is now just scrap, so it did go down in a way, it just didn't trash the Iceberg when it did.
I'm really interested in your reaction to Dot and Bubble, the most recent Disney+ Doctor Who episode that came out this Friday.
This is what happens when you name your ship "Titanic."
Every time y'all thought Astrid was going to maybe be the next companion I was just sat here like 😬. 😂
FINALLYYYYYYYYY🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩
The actor Clive Swift, who plays Mr Copper, gave a famous and hilarious interview with Doctor Who Magazine, where he came off like a total dick.
Now I have to find it
@@nupefromdaville Kyle's banned lingerie commercial first. Priorities.
WHAT?!?!?!?!
@@IsiahBradley It was hilarious. It starts with him reprimanding the journalist for not knowing shorthand and goes downhill from there.
Clive Swift was also in a classic Doctor Who story, Revelation of the Daleks with the sixth Doctor Colin Baker.
Next season you guys will see what really happens....
But in 2024 it's still snowing...
Kylie Minogue was far too big of a celebrity to be the next main companion as much as i would had loved that to be the case the next proper companion will be revealed in the next episode.
The angel robots were based on a Tom Baker Classic Who story called "The Robots of Death" which they look similar but different which showrunner RTD claims to be his favourite story growing up.
Just on your comment at the end about the current season i have zero problems with Jodie Whittaker or Ncuti Gatwa's casting as the Doctor i think they are fantastic in their own way each Doctor is different the problem is the writing and how it's written and i do think selling it to disney is a mistake because the best thing about Dr. Who is its very british and im worried about the americanisation of it no offense to americans but Dr. Who is a british science fiction show and it will lose that british atmosphere and this is coming from an australian lol.
Also there's a children in need minisode that's set between the season 3 finale and the christmas special called "TimeCrash" i recommend checking that out before reacting to the regular series.
HOW are there still people who think Doctor Who was sold to Disney? I get not being fully informed, not everyone is plugged into that stuff, but I genuinely don't get how there's still people who think that. No, Disney doesn't own Doctor Who. Disney does not PRODUCE Doctor Who. No more than Netflix did 3 years ago.
you know i would use that psychic paper to win the lottery 🤣
Series 4. Only gets better.
Series/season 4 has some of my favourite episodes, I'm looking forward to seeing your reactions. I hope you will also continue with season 14 Ncuti's series. (I subscribed to Disney to see his episodes.) Unfortunately there is a very hateful racist and misogynist segment in Who fandom (and other fandoms) with a few TH-cam channels who spread this hate.
Sorry, have to disagree with you on that. I haven’t seen or read anywhere reactors mentioning Ncuti’s colour as a factor when judging season 14. The majority of fans love his interpretation of the Doctor, and those that don’t like him as the Doctor is down to his acting, and not his colour. The hate comes from fans who don’t want RTD filling Doctor Who with not so subtle racist issues (Dot and Bubble), as well as all the LGBTQ+ mentions that are out front and centre, and have been since the 60th specials.
Angels are always bad in _Doctor Who._
This is like Bioshock but in space
You guys just met one of the most important characters of DW but who was it? find out next time on Dragon Ball Z 😅
This still stands as the most watched episode in new who (and arguably classic too) 13 to 14 million I think.... God knows why.... average at best.... RTD's tribute to the disaster movies like posidon adventure or towering inferno he used to watch as a kid at Xmas.... ps the "old salty dog" captain was a British treasure... usually in comedies though he's appeared in a james bond movie and 2 classic Dr who stories from the 70s
YAY! This is my least favorite Christmas special for sure, but it definitely has its good moments.
My respect for watching two different eras of DW at the same time!
Yes, I forgot we had to do this episode before series 4 and I felt disappointed. It's not that bad, though. Maybe I just wish Martha could have stayed for one more trip.
I love this Christmas special simply because of Kylie Minogue and the amount of body count which I feel they are too scared to do in episodes nowadays.
Yeah I have to agree about the girl in the fireplace.. As much as I think that was a great episode, a part of me feels like the fact that it was written by Steven Moffat and not Davies kinda makes me feel like it is mentally separated from all of the rest of the Davies era content in the cannon, and so doesn't touch the love the Doctor had for Rose.
Poseidwn😊
So much death for Christmas Day. Kind of ship Astrid with Bannakaffalatta. Not that interested in her overall, though.
Hope you contacted mr tardis because would love for you to collab and weigh in on Dot & bubbke
did you skip time crash - you naughty people
