Danasnji fudbaleri su svi redom na dopingu, igra se s puno lakšim i kvalitetnijim loptama, a ipak fudbal nema nikave čari.

Young folks talking about technical aspects of this game probably never take into account the weight and the hardness of the ball they used at the time. Not to mention heavy pitch and football shoes. Also the amount of tackles and the ferocity of the game would probably disqualify most of today’s primadonnas from even competing in the same sport😂😂
By watching this video l clearly see you are very right about the heaviness of the ball; the players had to take great impulse and force to attempt long range shootings, It also made the games slower. I think the new ball called "Tango" introduced in 1978 was an important change. Argentina for instance played fast football in that world cup.

This was the great Yugoslavia team of 1974 !! I still have a giant poster in my room of that goal no. 6 against Zaire - with a Zaire defender going desperately airborne trying to clear the ball away with a bicycle kick, but only sending it into the roof of the goal net !! A brilliant goal !!

My confusion in years is because in 1974 wasn't ten till October, and was in my 6th year of primary school till that world Cup..playing in my school's second team. I was disappointed with Brazil's performance without Pele. Why I don't like Liverpool? Because in the 70's they were brutal on the pitch here in England. Yes their football was attacking, but unless you play here you don't know how violent English football can be..it is a casual thing here, without deliberation unlike elsewhere. In today's football, using the top and the outside of the foot to take powerful shots, corner kicks and to make unpredictable passes are virtually non existent. This is why, the likes of Messi and Ronaldo can never be compared to the more skillful players of the 70s, 80s and the 90s.

Apart from Luis Pereira, Francisco Marinho and the ageing Rivelino, Brazil looked a pedestrian lot. Although they were also over physical it was something of an aberration and I have a little sympathy for Mario Zagalo. With a lack of raw talent at his disposal, especially up front he realised that he had to update his tactics. The defence was much better than in 1970 with Leao a decent keeper, Francisco Marinho and the great Luis Pereira. I maintain that the team could have been transformed and lifted the trophy IF Clodoaldo and Tostao had been fit to play and Paulo Cesar Lima had produced the goods. Remember in the first 20 minutes of the crucial second round match against Holland, Brazil outplayed the Dutch and could have gone in at half time 2-0 up having missed several good chances.

The team became more settled in round two, beating arch rivals, Argentina 2-1 and East Germany 1-0 !! The virtual semi-final was against Holland. Holland looked tactically more superior and adapted much better to the wet slippery condition of the rain-soaked pitch beating Brazil 2-0 !! Brazil's attack clearly missed the presence of Pele, Tostao, and Gerson. In their total of 7 matches, they had only scored 6 goals !!

Brasil tinha uma boa seleção nessa copa. Não era excepcional como a de 70, mas dava para o gasto. Na primeira fase empatamos com Escócia, Iuguslávia e ganhamos do Zaire. Na segunda fase o time engrenou e ganhamos da Alemanha Oriental, Argentina e no jogo decisivo para ir à final perdemos para Holanda. Foi um jogo igual e perdemos varias chances de gol. Em duas oportunidades os holandeses marcaram e se deram bem. O resultado desse jogo não representou o que foi a partida. Pancadaria foi generalizada, como em todo o campeonato.

Puno je lakše danas igrati, bolji tereni, igrači pogotovo vrhunski zaštičeni ko polarni međedi, kad im se neko primakne na tri metra to je već žuti karton, a ovdje je išao crveni eventualno kad nekome nogu polomiš. Danasnji fudbaleri su svi redom na dopingu, igra se s puno lakšim i kvalitetnijim loptama, a ipak fudbal nema nikave čari.

By watching this video l clearly see you are very right about the heaviness of the ball; the players had to take great impulse and force to attempt long range shootings, It also made the games slower. I think the new ball called "Tango" introduced in 1978 was an important change. Argentina for instance played fast football in that world cup.

My confusion in years is because in 1974 wasn't ten till October, and was in my 6th year of primary school till that world Cup..playing in my school's second team. I was disappointed with Brazil's performance without Pele.
Why I don't like Liverpool? Because in the 70's they were brutal on the pitch here in England. Yes their football was attacking, but unless you play here you don't know how violent English football can be..it is a casual thing here, without deliberation unlike elsewhere. All the best, my friend.

Apart from Luis Pereira, Francisco Marinho and the ageing Rivelino, Brazil looked a pedestrian lot. Although they were also over physical it was something of an aberration and I have a little sympathy for Mario Zagalo. With a lack of raw talent at his disposal, especially up front he realised that he had to update his tactics. The defence was much better than in 1970 with Leao a decent keeper, Francisco Marinho and the great Luis Pereira.
I maintain that the team could have been transformed and lifted the trophy IF Clodoaldo and Tostao had been fit to play and Paulo Cesar Lima had produced the goods. Remember in the first 20 minutes of the crucial second round match against Holland, Brazil outplayed the Dutch and could have gone in at half time 2-0 up having missed several good chances.

The team became more settled in round two, beating arch rivals, Argentina 2-1 and East Germany 1-0 !! The virtual semi-final was against Holland. Holland looked tactically more superior and adapted much better to the wet slippery condition of the rain-soaked pitch beating Brazil 2-0 !! Brazil's attack clearly missed the presence of Pele, Tostao, and Gerson. In their total of 7 matches, they had only scored 6 goals !!

A seleção de 74 tinha bons jogadores, mas deixou de levar muita gente boa, principalmente centroavante, jogou com Jairzinho centralizado e Valdomiro na direita, esse foi o maior erro. Muitos jogadores jovens aparecendo não foram, como Falcão e Zico, por exemplo. Na esquerda também tinha muitos jogadores bons, como Joãozinho bailarino, do Cruzeiro. PC caju fechava muito para o meio, se tornando mais um jogador de meio campo, o esquema ficou muito confuso para os padrões da época; Leivinha, o único centroavante, estava no banco.

Brasil tinha uma boa seleção nessa copa. Não era excepcional como a de 70, mas dava para o gasto. Na primeira fase empatamos com Escócia, Iuguslávia e ganhamos do Zaire. Na segunda fase o time engrenou e ganhamos da Alemanha Oriental, Argentina e no jogo decisivo para ir à final perdemos para Holanda. Foi um jogo igual e perdemos varias chances de gol. Em duas oportunidades os holandeses marcaram e se deram bem. O resultado desse jogo não representou o que foi a partida. Pancadaria foi generalizada, como em todo o campeonato.
