Due to this heavy defeat, the dictator Mobutu, then leader in Zaire, threatened the players with death upon returning home, should they lost to Brazil by a margin of more than 3 goals. They lost 3-0, and in the last minutes of the match Mwepu Ilunga came out of the barrier on the occasion of a free kick and kicked the ball away. He received a yellow card and was laughed at. Years later he revealed the truth behind that gesture, which probably saved his and his teammates' lives. Ilunga passed away in 2015 after a long illness 🌹
