And because they didn’t want the airlines to pay for pilot retraining. The plane should behave as if it was a regular 737, but it doesn’t especially in critical situations like stall.
Boeing want to release the new airplane before or in the same time as Airbus A320 Neo which use new larger trust and lower fuel consumption than the previous A320, the 737 airframe is the answer, Boeing put new engine as the Neo but the 737 groung clearance is too small to put the engine under wings so they move the engine to front of the wing that change the Center of Gravity "CG" of the airplane and this made the airplane nosedown during in the air, the MCAS come to solve this issue.

jesus, “I don’t know how we should trust sensors outside of the plane”??! Why have totally clueless senators ask any questions. shouldn’t people with at least basic knowledge of how an airplane works be the ones asking questions? The only sensor “inside” the cockpit might be the pilots’ eyes and ears, which clearly are not the best attitude/altitude determination nor speed measuring devices. The senator might even think the pitot tube is some kind of AI sending commands. Just 20mins of wikipedia reading before the hearing might be enough to be able to ask relevant questions and have some clue about how tests are made in very complex systems and what the airfrance accident was about. Obviously one of the biggest scandals in aircraft safety, probably tons of people should be jailed, but do not see how any of these questions will help in anything.
Sokeresa yeah, but she was implying that airplanes should not rely on sensors “”outside”” the airplane, and that’s just plain stupid. Not only (semi autonomous) safety systems will always rely on those sensors but pilots also must rely on them for flying “manually”. Pilots obviously cannot tell at which angle of attack the airplane is pointing with their sense of equilibrium. Would be like saying we should not rely on brakes when driving, after a car accident due to that.
ALL THE AVIATION COMMUNITY WANTS... is for him to just admit that Boeing fucked up. Admit that you ignored earlier problems in an attempt to get the plane out into the market before the A320neo sales started skyrocketing. And yea, I get that he wants to defend his reputation in any way, but let’s be honest here; there is no reputation left to defend. So, just admit so that we can all move on-the 777X was supposed to make its first flight several months ago, and now won’t fly until early 2020 because of this issue. And in case you haven’t noticed, the 777X is something airlines desperately need, especially Qantas....
I laugh about Americans who hate government and want a libertarian worldview. So who puts these mofo's to jail? Fines? more aggressive regulation? Nothing would happen. Industry cannot SELF REGULATE with a profit MOTIVE. Bonuses and profits drive this. At the cost of safety.
Even in these interviews the fucking CEO still didnt say why they came up with the MCAS system in the first place so in my book he is telling half truth about the 737MAX. Point to note the airframe design was change to accommodate larger engines unlike the normal airframe of the other 737s hence there should have been a new certification for the 737MAX rather than using the old certificate which over 50 years old.
5:29... i do not know how much we should trust sensors on the outside of an airplane... where does this lady think aoa sensors, airspeed sensors, ground proximity sensors, etc should be, if not on the outside of the aircraft?
That was not the point she was making. Her statement was in reference into sensors that can fail and have failed feeding false information into a computer system leaving a pilot helpless to do anything about it when a computer takes control of the aircraft. moron.
the salient question is why Boeing is not treated the same as when VW auto makers which falsely claimed to have 0 emission, a marketing white lie, the VW was punished to pay a huge amount of money to everyone( to the US government and those who purchased the car). why Boeing is so privileged and exempted from the any financial punishment?
I jut want to say that underneath it all it is not a software problem, it is a built problem - the airplane cannot fly straight on its own (because of how the jetenjines sit "in" the wings, thus messing up aerodynamics). If the plane could fly on its own, then it wouldn't need a software to make it not fall, would it? If a machine cannot fly straight without a software, then it cannot fly - period! The software is there to "put paper on the cracks" and salvage a dead project. I hope the whole world boycots this madness of an airplane.
Lies. MCAS is in the B767 and has dual AOA sensor input and automatic system disengage with pilot stick input. Had either of these redundancies been in the MAX, hundreds of people would still be alive today.
He took home $30 million last year including stock options and many millions more before that ... so a couple of days of shit face is basically worth it but all those poor souls and their families. Luckily there are some good people in the US still.
As, A & P licensed by the FAA in 1971 and Aeronautical Eng. and retired, cannot remember that FAA in a certification of a Airframe/Aircraft that had a “Single Point of Failure”. This is not a Experimental Aircraft, this is a Commercial People Carrier! Boeing has bought the FAA and Certified a Flying Coffin and should “Scrap” all the 737 Max or park them in Arizona(Sonoran Desert). Knowing the Dwindling War Chest of the Republicans, the 737 Max will make a move to reappear but the General Public will not “Accept” this decision and Air Bus(Better designed ACraft, ask Scully) will be the winner in this Segment.

so this is going to be the safest Boing aircraft ever when it returns to service, why didn't they do that before it entered service?
Not a single question was answered that day.
lol as part of a development process??? For a plane that was sold as already fit for purpose!
when someone said "eee" before he answered, then he used a low voice tune. that's when u know he's lying
"We should not be trusting anything outside the plane giving commands to the inside of the plane". This is nothing more than grandstanding by politicians who obviously dont know what a pitot tube does lol.
She said "Jedi Mind Tricking" 😳😄. There must be something in the air whenever all these suits get together that makes the words YES or No impossible to say.
Criminal negligence.... this should be dealt with in court.... for killing over 300 people..... if they had quickly dealt with the first crash maybe they should be given the benefit of the doubt.... but come on 2 crashes..... what if now they have a third which is possible with their flawed and rushed engineering..GREED cost over 300 lives.
speak up and get fired.........
Sounds like she knows more than Boeing lol
www.opensecrets.org/members-of-congress/summary?cid=N00007836&cycle=CAREER
Either way Boieng is messed up. If they knew why didn't they tell the FAA and if they didn't know about the fault then why not?
6 years to develop and it still failed??? Lol
And it was even just a old design modified. LOL
It's a YES and NO question. Why don't they have unlimited time to question these people. 5 minutes isn't going to work
The 5 mins is designed because that's the dodging limitation the CEO can withstand. I would grill him until he confesses. Lock him up in a basement with a interrogation specialist, and treat him like a terrorist haha, he will spill the beans faster than that max can reach v1
@@Sokeresa In UK Parliament politicians have days to cross examine people. Your system is flawed.
@@fessellsahmed2587 system is NOT FLAWED! SYSTEM IS PERFECTLY DESIGNED for cases like this lol. 5 mins, time is up.... Congress gets no answers, Boeing stock is reported up the last week. Mumble here, mumble there, case dismissed... watch.
Otherwise, if you compare to the normal world, you are absolutely right
Some people got a lot of $$$$$$$ to let those planes in the air all this time
The Title should be "Sen. Cantwell questions Boeing CEO on when he knew he was Fu*ked."
As Americans in this season of politics ...why are even Corporate people unable to provide a freaking Yes or No???
Distraction tactics…
They’re always giving a go around on every question. Fucking big corporate companies like this just NEVER want to admit they were wrong. Even when peoples lives were lost.
jesus, “I don’t know how we should trust sensors outside of the plane”??!
She was referring to the actual bad sensors in the max!
I always considered Boeing to be one of the most reliable flying machines. But this sorry face of the top management is very disappointing.
If its Boeing, I'm not going.
Reminds me of 93 Edwards AFB same crap with the c17. Who made that thing?
Lockheed
Such lies. LIES!!!!!
So dies dennis and john get a CAM???
Even in these interviews the fucking CEO still didnt say why they came up with the MCAS system in the first place so in my book he is telling half truth about the 737MAX. Point to note the airframe design was change to accommodate larger engines unlike the normal airframe of the other 737s hence there should have been a new certification for the 737MAX rather than using the old certificate which over 50 years old.
Called.. budget .. can't afford 3 sensors with error checking.. just have one and the crashes will be covered by insurance
5:29... i do not know how much we should trust sensors on the outside of an airplane... where does this lady think aoa sensors, airspeed sensors, ground proximity sensors, etc should be, if not on the outside of the aircraft?
That was not the point she was making. Her statement was in reference into sensors that can fail and have failed feeding false information into a computer system leaving a pilot helpless to do anything about it when a computer takes control of the aircraft. moron.
Boeing CEO got a 15 million dollar bonus after the Lion crash. What safety culture. Instead of being fired he got a bonus. LOL
This senator is a brilliant speaker , she knows what shes talking about , good job Madam Senator .
Can anyone please explain to me how this man is still CEO? What is wrong with its boats of directors?
Welcome to millennial 2019... have you watched the movie "Idiocracy", whatch it, is the same yo
No direct answer
Boeing should scrap that MCAS!! What a FIASCO!
He's toast!
Boeing Culture. Profits, Bonuses, and Lies.
what poker face, no emotion, no feeling wow
They train for this. PR consultants. Probably as a tin heart - stolen from the tin man in the Wizard of Oz.
the salient question is why Boeing is not treated the same as when VW auto makers which falsely claimed to have 0 emission, a marketing white lie, the VW was punished to pay a huge amount of money to everyone( to the US government and those who purchased the car). why Boeing is so privileged and exempted from the any financial punishment?
BEcause they have the most subsidies in the USA? Google people. It's all there! subsidytracker.goodjobsfirst.org/parent/boeing
www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/govbeat/wp/2015/03/17/the-united-states-of-subsidies-the-biggest-corporate-winners-in-each-state/ Boeing #1 in 30 states!
Boeing do a lot of tests with aircraft. How Can MCAS fail?
If it's boeing I'm never going!
May
Crash
Any
Second
He is good at avoiding answers to the questions
MCAS is on the KC-46 Pegasus based on the 767 but not the 767 itself
