- Last night we enjoyed a great winter storm, well over 12" (30 cm) at my house. I wanted to see if my lowered Audi S4 on Dunlop Wintersport 4D snow tires was up to the task going through such deep snow.
A guest appearance is made by my 6 hp Subaru powered Ariens Snowblower (mostly unstoppable). - ยานยนต์และพาหนะ

One of my favorites things about winter and driving a B5 A4 Quattro is being able to effortlessly drive through inches upon inches of snow while other people struggle. :)
I just got my b5 6 months ago, can't wait for winter, last year I was in a merkur xr4ti, love that car to death, but it sucks in the snow. Driving to the ski resort in my quattro is going to be fun.

Modern engines don't need much warm up with fuel injection, it's the transmission you need to worry about keeping cool when you're spinning your tires in the snow. Since you don't have much air flow but the transmission is doing a lot of work.
I was worried about this.

thats a happy intercooler
The intercooler would not be working well after a few minutes because it is being blocked. Remember snow is an insulator(ex. igloos) so the intercooler needs clean cool air in order to function.

okay I know how it works...there isn't air getting to it so there isn't air to cool...facepalm
The air is coming from the intake, and is comprised by the turbos, witch force air threw the intercoolers, the intercoolers have snow on them, snow is cold, snow cools air in intercoolers... Intercoolers are happy

Very nice; always enjoy running my Stg3 RS4-converted S4 on good winter tires in some heavy snow. But when it really is too much, Ariens snowblower for the win! Best heavy-gauge steel machines, nicely welded... and Subaru engines now? cool!

I have a 2013 S5 and I just love the look on peoples faces when I plow through the snow with it and they are just slip sliding away. WTG Audi!!! No better vehicle made.

Damn I miss our Audi's when I watch stuff like this. Needed something bigger for the expanding family. Now we have two 4Runners which are just damn amazing, but they just aren't Audi's. A 4Runner will get you anywhere without complaining EVERYDAY! An Audi will get you there too, but it might need a sensor or two here and there and a little bit of love now and then. But, when you drive that Audi you forget about the little nickle and dime b.s. now and then because it just feels sooooo damn right!

Q7 are honestly not really worth their heafty price tag.
I've been a fan of your b5s4 videos for a while now. Never knew you had a channel though, always seen the Neragoblues4 videos else where. Glad to see you still have it. A buddy of mine just went with a 034 single turbo kit with his, put's out some nice power. These things are getting harder and harder to find at a good price, hope you hang on to it for the long run!

Conclusion, my Subaru is for sale and iv already put a down payment on my S4. Thank you, i hope this solves a lot of these arguments take it from a former Subaru fanboy.

Funny, but quattro system cant beat lancer or impreza, i get years of experience with really much snow, not that kindergarden from video.
The winter tires are the key here. If you had the so called all season tires on the car you would have gone about 3 feet before getting stuck. Most of the people that watch this are probably thinking that the all wheel drive is the answer, it is not.
Although this is an aged reply, 4WD just gets you deeper in the ditch, AWD keeps you OUT of the ditch. I love pulling my buddies 4x4 Chevrolemons, Dodges, & even a few Fords out of the ditch with my old Audi TT Quattro Roadster. Agreed, if you don't have good winter tires on, you're screwed in anything, but the Quattro is king in the snow, especially versus the asymetrical Subaru. The Subaru is a great, safe car, but is is not an Audi. What's a real joke is BMW's "X-drive", for the money.
my all seasons on my quattro will go with ease through snow deep enough to blackout my headlights and pile on the hood, issue free.

+Peter I that's not really that impressive, my sister's golf (FWD by the way) was pushing through snow 3/4 up it's bumper, and it wasn't even fresh powder, it was packed and driven through multiple times. With proper winter tires and no ice at the bottom, it's not that hard.

Whatever you do, try to avoid the B5 model with the V6 biturbo. This motor is vulnerable as hell.

Haramasch Abrasir I've seen a couple B5's that have stage 3's and 130k miles on them. I know they certainly have their area's of concern but I've seen plenty of reliable S4's. My buddy has owned two of them and, other than the clutch being kind of a slut, the car has treated him well. Both of his were pretty extensively modified. He let me borrow it for a night and I remember it being difficult to shift from first to second gear under wide open throttle because the damn car pulled so hard.

My old '96 A4 plowed through the snow like a champ(I live in Michigan's upper peninsula so lots of snow). Siped the summer tires myself as an experiment and they worked great. Had to constantly clean out the snow and ice inside the rims though due the low pro tires. Wish I had an S4 instead though.

@G35Jeesh lol, that A4 drained my wallet. Love Audi's but damn do parts cost $$$, not fun to work on and they break what seems like weekly after 40K miles. Maybe if driven normally they don't, but idk how to do that. I thought you were supposed to redline in every gear and drift every corner.

My 2012 A4 Avant 3.0 TDI Quattro is the first car I have owned that is able to get to our family summer cottage lower driveway every mid December with heavy snow here in Finland to fetch our own fresh Christmas tree.

I picked up a 95' Audi 90 for the winter and couldn't be happier, its such a beast in the snow and I had better traction than most SUVs/Pickups around here. Actually kinda sad to see winters ending (which is the 1st time i ever said that!)

Nothing can have pros without bringing cons to it. It's like saying a MPV will be faster than a dragster just because it has room for more passengers. Audi has its cons just as well.
no one here even knows what quattro is compared to symmetrical awd. symmetrical is in fact "far superior". Subaru is a much better handling car. but thats it. audi is stronger, faster, less rusting and more luxurious.
but audis are everything but reliable and they are a bitch to fix and the expense sucks.

Huge Audi guy here! love your videos and it took me 30 mins trying to locate this comment lol
