It must be one of the most amazing feelings on earth to be standing on a stage listening to 10's of thousands of people singing your music back to you!!!
I’ve wondered many times what it must feel like. I’ve tried to imagine it and my brain shuts down 😂 it would be bloody incredible - in the absence of suitable ways to describe it.
I was gifted a ticket to this for my birthday, from my cousin. I was 19 at the time (to be 20, 10 days later). I was in the seats (I'd rather have been on the pitch though). I was 2 rows down from the royal box...and I can tell you now, Diana had a fucking ball (I think Charlie might have clapped his hands once or twice). It was and still is one of the best days of my life. I still get goose pimples watching this. Sadly I no longer have the ticket or the souvenir programme (lost in a house fire...along with a 40 year vinyl collection). Queen were, without a doubt, thee best act of the day. A treasured memory.
I know how you feel about losing a vinyl collection. Lost a lot including my own collection from a twister in 22. Inherited the collection from my parents. Lost a lot of other things, but so it goes. :/
Of course, POW had a ball...that was right up her alley. And Duran Duran was there , her favourite band it has so often been claimed. Charles, many of the acts were his age, but he was never known to be into any popular music. It has also been claimed that this concert is the reason for the 2007 Concert for Diana, 10 years after her death......it has been the inspiration for her sons to have a memorial concert and use it to raise money to support her favourite causes. I was watching the concert from home, where I live it's almost halfway between both locations. I am surprised that the concert is not still being used to make money for famine relief. If they put out a video of the concert, in full or highlights, I am sure there are a lot of us who would still buy it....memories of the summer I turned 17.
this is insane. I remember watching live aid live. even through the tv it was an amazing life altering event. The world of music coming together for a single cause - we haven't seen anything like it since.
@@PradaWestThe funny tning is that the inspiration for this song came when Roger Taylor heard his son utter the words "radio ca-ca" while listening to a bad song on the radio while they were in Los Angeles. 😅
Brian May played guitar for Lady Gaga's song "You and I" both on her album and on the MTV music awards in 2011 from her Born this Way album. The song samples We will Rock you. ❤
I think it was actually one of her early producers who coined the name. But definitely true that she is a huge Queen fan and took so much inspiration from them.
@@PradaWest I heard that it was a mistake in her printed out set list. She was going to sing "Lady Marmalade", followed by "Radio Gaga", but when she printed out the set list, it just said "Lady Gaga" and she thought, "I like that!".
From the minute he runs out onstage, you cannot take your eyes off Freddie. He is mesmerizing. A music journalist who followed Queen from the very beginning said that she had once seen Freddie put arm straight out, turn it over palm up, and the whole audience just stood up together. Who else could possibly do that? I also love that he went over and thanked the camera man for being such a good sport and dancing with him.
greatest 22 mins of music EVER.... keep remind yourself this is LIVE no autotune and not a dedicated queen crowd but they still sing every song word for word....
Freddie had this gorgeous voice but his charisma was also just enchanting. Every member of Queen were serious musicians that were known for rehearsing more and doing more sound checks than other rock bands. They took their jobs seriously. They all wrote hit songs too. This band was oozing with talent. Check them out live at Hammersmith Odeon, The Rainbow, Hyde Park, Wembley Stadium and of course Montreal 1981. There are many hidden gems in their albums too.
It is not even a 'Queen loving' audience particularly - they came to support the urgently arranged charity effort. Queen had fans but not all rockers rated them and they had been 'off the boil' prior to L.Aid, yet this unpaid 20 minutes of a unique, all day, worldwide broadcast brought them, rightly, everlasting admiration and respect.
My sisters and I were so lucky to be there and what a trip the whole of Live Aid was. Never anything like it before or since...Queen was my absolute fav (and everyones...) followed by U2, Geoge Michael, Sting and Bowie. As brilliant as they were everyone was far behind Queen and Freddie. I miss the originality of the music, the song writing and singers. I wish the generations of today could have what we did in the 70s, 80s and 90s. It was so much fun, raucous, irreverent and creative.
The drummer, Roger Taylor is also an excellent vocalist. He wrote and performed I’m in Love with my Car which was the “B” side to Bohemian Rhapsody. His performance of this song at the 1981 Montreal show is worth a watch.
Freddie performed this against doctor's orders! He was sick & his vocal cords were affected (Aids). He rested them for 1 week and got out there and did that performance!!! That is definitely what he was born to do! Thanks! Your reaction was heart felt.
Pretty sure he wasn’t diagnosed until 1-2 years after this performance. He did have laryngitis though. He also always had glasses of tea with honey during shows
I'm old enough to remember this, it's become almost normal now to see an audience in sync with an artist but this was absolutely breathtaking to watch because it was rare to have that many people respond in perfect time with each other. You're right, he had them eating out of his hands.
Freddie had 70,000 fans in the crowd and 1.5 billion watching in his hands that day. I barely left the house during Live Aid and my Dad and I were watching when Queen was introduced. I was already a huge Queen fan already but by the end of this performance so was my Dad. Freddie's doctor told him that he shouldn't do Live Aid because he was sick and could ruin his vocal chords but Freddie said that this was the biggest event in history and Queen would be performing. A Freddie 70% is better than most people at 100%. So glad Freddie told his doctor NO. Best 20 minutes of music ever. Queen pulled in more money for their performance than the others total Epic Epic Epic. RIP dear Freddie you are still loved and missed to this day. Great reaction. Love of my life live is great too and there's a video of the crowd before a Greenday concert that's singing Bohemian Rapsody it's quite amazing you can check it out for yourself if you want ❤ BTW Freddie was the only act to acknowledge the people watching at home in the camera. We had the same reaction as you did to him playing with the camera man 😂. Crazy little thing called love was written by Freddie in like 10 minutes as a tribute to Elvis in 1979. Elvis passed in 1977 I believe. It's a Queen song❤ Led Zeppelin Stairway to Heaven live from MSG in 1973 is a must my friend. Peace out ✌️ ☮️
They weren't even supposed to be performing at Live Aid. This was totally unexpected when they came out on stage. Someone asked Freddie what instrument he played. His response was, "The audience, darling! ". This performance is proof. They owned the entire world for this performance! 😊😊😊
@@neilholland3415 I maybe wrong , but I remember reading somewhere that Freddie didn't fancy doing the gig but Bob Geldof persuaded him over the phone . Can anyone remember that ?
@@seandelaney1423 I do remember that he had a throat infection and doctors warned him not to perform, but he did it anyway. And then there was Elton john, after the set, stormed in to the changing rooms yelling "YOU BASTARDS, YOU STOLE THE EFFIN SHOW !!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
They wasn’t originally invited to play in live aid so when they agreed they were voted as the best concert ever. Other star like Elton John, David Bowie called very a basket how the hell can we follow that. The stole the show.
Elvis died in 1977. Freddie wrote “Crazy Little Thing Called Love” in 1979, so Elvis never even got to hear it or sing it. But you can hear Elvis’s voice coming through Freddie in this performance. 💕(yes you can if you listen!).
Note perfect?!! Apart from his voice cracking umpteen times, he fluffed a line ("For he who grew up tall and proud") in Hammer To Fall. I'm a very early fan, but a realist too.
My god you really are a pain in the a** with your miserable comments. Every time you feel like writing your godam negativity just smack yourself in the face with keyboard @@barrymitchell6444
Don't know if anyone has mentioned, but in Crazy Little Thing Called Love, Brian plays 3 different guitars in that short couple of minutes. Starts with acoustic, then moves to the black one, then on to red for the finish. Thanks for reacting to this show. It's so epic!
Masterpiece of live music. And a twenty minuet set that came in within a couple seconds, despite the song compressions and the "ad libs" - Roger Taylor kept them on the beat - a professional masterpiece. And Freddie's best instrument? The crowd dear boy, the crowd. RIP Freddie, there will never be another like you.
Thank you for your reactions to Queen and Freddie. I like to think you young people are genuinely shocked at how good they were. It's great to see that it's keeping their music alive even after all these years.
33 years after Freddies death this performance still holds the title as the greatest live performance in Rock history. Queen were untouchable live. Check out Wembley 86 concert...you can find the entire concert on you tube. Complete fire ❤️👑🎸🎹🥁🎤❤️❤️
Old enough to remember watching this in a small TV didn't really appreciate it at the time too young and Queen were not one of my favourites groups bur looking back thus was class and raised millions for a great cause happy days that I didn't appreciate at the time
I went to a Bird of Prey event and the guy introduced a falcon as Freddie. I asked him if by any chance the bird was named after Freddie Mercury and he said yes because the falcon was such a performer.
I never get tired of watching this. Freddie had the audience in the palm of his hand. All of the artists there knew that Queen stole the show ❤. As far as Crazy Little Thing…you are not the only person that thought it was an Elvis song. I’ve seen many people on yt that swore they saw Elvis perform it. I guess Freddie’s homage to Elvis was better than expected
They had a Queen performance during the opening ceremony of the London 2012 Olympics, 4 vans with screens playing a recording of Freddie, even 30 years after his death he still had the crowd in the palm of his hand. One of the few musicians who can really claim the title of Legend.
The whole band are genius. The lead guitar guy has been voted best of all time a couple of times. He's right up there a best of all timer. Freddie has been voted best Frontman of all time. Even many of his peers say he's the best. The likes of none other than Axl Rose have said it. Queen are simply the best live band of all time.
I was there!! It was so nice of Queen to let all those other bands play at their concert. They were the best act, on both sides of the Atlantic, by a country mile. Freddie had us in the palm of his hand.
I had the honor of seeing Queen live in 1980 at the Los Angeles forum.....then again at the same place in 2015 with Adam Lambert. There is only one Freddie and Adam didn't even try to imitate. Respect.
what is totally awesome,... is that the audience were so lit by Queen! Queen was not signed up on the roster of bands before all the ticket were sold! They did steal the crowd with their performance!
I love seeing young people discovering Queen for the first time, but I love it even more when I run across young people who already know and love them. As long as there are platforms like TH-cam and people like you who keep Queen in front of people, they will never die. One suggestion - you really should check out their live performance of "White Queen" in 1975 in Hammersmith. It will truly break your brain.
As a 58 year old British woman, I had the privilege of growing up during 'Queen era'. They are all amazing and extremely intelligent men, not just musically. Thank you so much for sharing this. It's so wonderful to see an obviously intelligent young man paying homage to such amazing talent. Love your site, I'm probably one of your oldest subscribers but proud to be one. Thanks again and keep up your fantastic work.
Twenty years later, in 2005, this was still voted the greatest live performance in the history of rock by a group of music industry professionals. So if you think it's the best, you're in good company.
The shortest 20 minutes in history that rocked the world. Crazy Little Thing Called Love was born after Elvis's death, Freddie wrote it as a tribute song, in his bath tube (really) in 10 minutes. 😅
As an Elvis historian, he NEVER had a song called Crazy Little Thing Called Love. Freddie wrote this song in mind as he was a fan of Elvis. Freddie said himself he wrote it in about 15 minutes while taking a bath.
Freddie wrote Crazy Little Thing as a tribute to Elvis. He adds the Elvis drawl deliberately. Elvis died (1977) before the song was written (1979) but you're not alone thinking he sang it.
A friend turned me on to Queen when I was a teenager, and I am 62. I still love them! Nobody put on a show better. However, seeing the documentary of Queen with Adam Lambert... it was like watching Adam channel the soul of Freddy Mercury. I highly recommend doing a reaction to Adam doing a Queen song with Queen.
All I can say is this: We tuned into Live Aid to see Queen and my God they blew the roof off. I can't say what I was feeling at the time but i can say that I knew it was special.
I watched this live with my high school boyfriend and all our friends in Texas. We watched the UK and USA concerts Live. Phil Collin’s played both concerts and arrived via helicopter at the last minute. It was such an event and so special. Queen was the highlight for me and why I miss the 80s. So much fun. My high school boyfriend is still one of my dearest friends. We are old farts now.
I just happened upon his videos on you tube a couple of weeks ago! I recognized the songs but never have seen any videos. I am totally into this now! Such a brilliant artist and performer. I can't get enough!❤❤❤❤❤❤
Heaps on YT. Have a look for the live concerts. Queen are the best live rock band. They’re actually better live than in their albums - the energy in the concerts is palpable even watching it on a screen. Enjoy ❤
I watched this live as a teenager and even then knew the impact this performance would have on the world. I really hope you've watched bohemian rhapsody (the queen story) as it was outstanding and made us all appreciate Freddie and Queen more. Thank you for this, your reaction takes me back almost 40 years
Don't miss "Barcelona" with soprano Montserrat Caballé, was written by Freddie for the Olympics in that city but sadly he passed away before but the song is beautifully, Freddie was a huge fan of opera, she was a Diva, a virtuous like Freddie, both became friends.. Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Yes, Genesis, so so many greats groups in those years, a lot to discover! Following your reactions from Argentina!!! 🇦🇷
There was 72,000 people at Wembley Arena reacting to Freddie. As well as the 1.5 BILLION of us around the planet singing & clapping along. He literally had the whole globe in his hand that day. Freddie Mercury was the GOAT. Brian May is truly the greatest guitarist of all time. Period, end of story. And young man I'm probably old enough to be your father. But I grew up on punk, country, folk, rock, opera, pop & rap. Both West & East coast because both sides were offering some pretty dope shit.
When he gets down on his knees with his microphone that's iconic pose . We can recognize him immediately .That you for your reaction to our Freddy Mercury RIP .
Before anyone thinks what the movie Bohemian Rhapsody showed, Freddie did NOT have AIDS here. He wasnt diagnosed until Spring 1987. Please for the love of GOD, watch a documentary called Days of Our Lives. But this performance is still considered the greatest love performance ever caught on film.
Please remember that although Freddie was an amazing front man with an incredible voice, the rest of the band are all extremely talented and all had fantastic voices. More than that, they are all incredibly respectful of eachother, especially in their private lives and all had a very great brotherly love and protectiveness for eachother, especially when Freddie sadly became so ill. These are the sort of role models we need today.
If you truly want to learn how big and loved Freddie Mercury was..about 6 months after his passing the rest of the Queen 'members' (Roger Taylor took the 1'st innitiative, but that's just beside the point 😉) a Freddie Mercury 'Tribute Concert..and all the greats came to give Freddie a tremendous 'send of' (I'm Dutch, so English isn't my 1'st language, so if 'send of' isn't the right word..I appologize!!). But that's when u realise for real..if you didn't already, how the world lost a true legend and a wonderfull kind man. ❤ and miss Freddie Mercury..even almost 33 years after your tragic passing. 💞🕊🙏🏻

Yes, it's official ... Lady Gaga named herself after "Radio Ga Ga".
Thought so
@@PradaWestThe funny tning is that the inspiration for this song came when Roger Taylor heard his son utter the words "radio ca-ca" while listening to a bad song on the radio while they were in Los Angeles.
✅
Remember, this is not a Queen crowd, it's a massive festival event with bigger bands on the bill, but for about 20 minutes they took over the stage
✅
I take your point...but please tell me which bands are bigger than queen and on what scale?
@@1carusjohn32 Led Zeppelin reunion, Sting, Elton John, Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, The Who, hell in summer of 85 Run-D.M.C was a bigger name
Who tf cares 😂 ….. y’all comment this same comment on every reaction video . Nobody cares!!! Can we just rock on lol
@@Adiscretefirm Wrong by any reasonable metric.
greatest 22 mins of music EVER.... keep remind yourself this is LIVE no autotune and not a dedicated queen crowd but they still sing every song word for word....
✅
Just goes to.show how many fans they actually had.
I never get tired of seeing live aid. Imo I think this was one of the greatest concerts ever and have never seen anything to rival it.
✅
Freddie had this gorgeous voice but his charisma was also just enchanting. Every member of Queen were serious musicians that were known for rehearsing more and doing more sound checks than other rock bands. They took their jobs seriously. They all wrote hit songs too. This band was oozing with talent. Check them out live at Hammersmith Odeon, The Rainbow, Hyde Park, Wembley Stadium and of course Montreal 1981. There are many hidden gems in their albums too.
✅
It is not even a 'Queen loving' audience particularly - they came to support the urgently arranged charity effort. Queen had fans but not all rockers rated them and they had been 'off the boil' prior to L.Aid, yet this unpaid 20 minutes of a unique, all day, worldwide broadcast brought them, rightly, everlasting admiration and respect.
✅
Don't you just love how cleanly they finish off each song! Everyone in unison!
Every song is a Queen original 😊
@@PradaWest
Queen sung a crazy little thing called love...Written by Freddie..
✅
✅
he also wrote Radio Gaga...
Tenement Funster is cool too
His vocals on Queen were phenomenal. On “We are the Champions” , listen closely. He’s killing it !!
Freddie performed this against doctor's orders! He was sick & his vocal cords were affected (Aids). He rested them for 1 week and got out there and did that performance!!! That is definitely what he was born to do! Thanks! Your reaction was heart felt.
✅
And it’s not beer on the piano. It’s his medicine to help him through the performance.
Warm lemon water too.
Freddie DID NOT have AIDS during this. He was diagnosed in 1987. The movie got ALOT of things wrong.
Queen pulled in more money for their performance than the others total
Epic Epic Epic. Peace out ✌️ ☮️
✅
They weren't even supposed to be performing at Live Aid. This was totally unexpected when they came out on stage. Someone asked Freddie what instrument he played. His response was, "The audience, darling! ". This performance is proof. They owned the entire world for this performance! 😊😊😊
✅
I remember in a rare interview he was asked if he always wanted to be a rock legend and he said "No darling - a God"
Freddie was so talented that he makes you think Crazy Little Think Called Love was actually an Elvis song, a musical genius
✅
Crazy Little Thing Called Love was wrote by Freddie after Elvis died. Elvis never sang that song.
He wrote it in the bath
Yes that’s true that’s were she took her name from Radio Ga. Ga
Sitting in the bathtub no less😊
@@barbaramay1866 I agree ☝️ TRURTH
Freddie actually played Elvis a demo of this song in 1977 and Elvis did his own version of it.
@@stephengregory1521 Not…. Sorry I fact checked it after reading other comments so u might enjoy reading as well. They were right on ‼️👑👑👑👍🏽
@@stephengregory1521 You may have mistaken Freddie's voice for Elvis's voice. The song was written 2 years after Elvis passed away.
If you notice, Freddie doesn't wear an ear-piece yet is note perfect throughout. Amazing. The ultimate showman who will ALWAYS be missed.
🙌🏼
✅
Freddie Mercury wrote Crazy Little Thing Called Love after Elvis was already dead.
✅
Thank you for your reactions to Queen and Freddie. I like to think you young people are genuinely shocked at how good they were. It's great to see that it's keeping their music alive even after all these years.
Love it!!
Yes! I love Prada genuine reactions to Freddie & Queen!!!
33 years after Freddies death this performance still holds the title as the greatest live performance in Rock history. Queen were untouchable live. Check out Wembley 86 concert...you can find the entire concert on you tube. Complete fire ❤️👑🎸🎹🥁🎤❤️❤️
✅
It's a bittersweet joy to watch Freddie. Such a great performer and sad he is no longer with us.
✅
Old enough to remember watching this in a small TV didn't really appreciate it at the time too young and Queen were not one of my favourites groups bur looking back thus was class and raised millions for a great cause happy days that I didn't appreciate at the time
I called my dog Freddie just so that I could shout "Ready Freddie" throwing his ball in the park. 😂 When you know, you know!
✅
I went to a Bird of Prey event and the guy introduced a falcon as Freddie. I asked him if by any chance the bird was named after Freddie Mercury and he said yes because the falcon was such a performer.
@@englishlin7020 Love it!
Oh I love that ❤
I got a kitten about a year ago. Named Miko after one of his cats!!!
Notice how well-behaved the crowd is - everyone is super focused on Freddy/band and totally engaged.
Agreed 👍🏼
“Before the performance someone asked Freddie if he was nervous < Freddy responded “I was fucking born for this!”
✅
Well, that's not true. According to Brian May they were very nervous before the show. It's all over Google!
Elvis never performed that song crazy little thing called love. It was written after Elvis passed away.
✅
Elvis passed in 77, Freddie wrote this in 79, in about 20 minutes, but Elvis was his inspiration, along with others, RIP Freddie & RIP Elvis...
✅
Have you ever seen a singer/entertainer have so much fun while ruling the whole world ♥️♥️♥️♥️
25 minutes that changed music forever
I was there!! It was so nice of Queen to let all those other bands play at their concert. They were the best act, on both sides of the Atlantic, by a country mile. Freddie had us in the palm of his hand.
✅
It's f***ing perfect, isn't it? :-)
Absolutely 💯
After all these years it still rocks generations!
It surely is the best concert ever. The crowds were amazing and so much part of this. Outstanding performance.
I am 72 and still love this legend.
Freddie’s best instrument was the audience ❤
Facts
Brilliant voice and stage presence this guy had so much charisma, great song
I had the honor of seeing Queen live in 1980 at the Los Angeles forum.....then again at the same place in 2015 with Adam Lambert. There is only one Freddie and Adam didn't even try to imitate. Respect.
what is totally awesome,... is that the audience were so lit by Queen! Queen was not signed up on the roster of bands before all the ticket were sold! They did steal the crowd with their performance!
✅
Poor Freddie did THAT with a throat infection. RIP to the man with voice of an angel.
✅
The musicians who played after Queen were pissed. They knew they couldn't top that performance.
✅
As a 58 year old British woman, I had the privilege of growing up during 'Queen era'. They are all amazing and extremely intelligent men, not just musically. Thank you so much for sharing this. It's so wonderful to see an obviously intelligent young man paying homage to such amazing talent. Love your site, I'm probably one of your oldest subscribers but proud to be one. Thanks again and keep up your fantastic work.

Always brings me to tears
Good morning from South Africa. I think I watched this over 100 times 😁
Good morning 🌞
Twenty years later, in 2005, this was still voted the greatest live performance in the history of rock by a group of music industry professionals. So if you think it's the best, you're in good company.
✅
The shortest 20 minutes in history that rocked the world. Crazy Little Thing Called Love was born after Elvis's death, Freddie wrote it as a tribute song, in his bath tube (really) in 10 minutes. 😅

I sat all day by the telly and saw all this consert. What a wilde memory!
Awesome 😎
✅
I had to work that morning and broke speed records getting home to watch this. Absolutely spectacular concert
I remember Freddie being asked: "What's your favourite instrument to play"? Freddie replied "The Audience darling".
✅
As an Elvis historian, he NEVER had a song called Crazy Little Thing Called Love. Freddie wrote this song in mind as he was a fan of Elvis. Freddie said himself he wrote it in about 15 minutes while taking a bath.
✅
Saw queen as a teenager in 1974, no one had heard of them much then, 50 years on I'm still a fan!
The vibrato on Brian’s solo’s is incredible and so consistent 👌
Freddie wrote Crazy Little Thing as a tribute to Elvis. He adds the Elvis drawl deliberately. Elvis died (1977) before the song was written (1979) but you're not alone thinking he sang it.

Okay I just did a check, Crazy Little Thing called love came out in 1979. Two years after Elvis died. Written by Queen.
✅
Freddie famously wrote this in 10 minutes in a bathtub on guitar.

Heaps on YT. Have a look for the live concerts. Queen are the best live rock band. They’re actually better live than in their albums - the energy in the concerts is palpable even watching it on a screen. Enjoy ❤

He has a kaposis sarcoma under his right arm at this concert
Freddie Mercury will always be a Legend i grew listening to his music best of the best. yes I am from the UK London.

Montreal 1981 the whole concert is worth a watch its awesome ❤
