    i bought this lense to use on my nikon D7200.. and i goitta say the sharpness at 600mm is fantastic. Really surprised me how quick it was to focus not using any custom settings at all.. fantastic lense for the money

    Hi. I have had this lens for about three years now and shoot it on both Nikon D2x and D4. It’s an amazing lens for the price. I believe I paid around 500£ for mine and it was like new. I shot it quite often with 1,4 Tc which still gives fantastic results. It can even go with the 2x Tc when placed on a good tripod and use proper long lens techniques.

    I just received mine yesterday and like buying any but of kit I've watched review videos to death.
    After all that, and I've went & bought mine anyway, I found your review. By far the best I've watched yet, just simple and to the point, so cheers and I've subscribed as well. 🙂

      hey John awesome stuff. I have worked with various professional camera ops since this video and a lot of them have this as a back up lens in their bags. We tend to use the canon cn20 for our productions. But yeh lots of people use this so its a solid buy.

    Nice job! I think the greatest thing about this lens is that it puts a long telephoto within reach (financially) for the amateur/hobbyist. I love mine.

      Southern Exposure thanks! Yeh it’s a real cracking lens and that extra length makes a huge difference. I just got the 100-400mrk 2 and I’m intrigued to see what the final images look like side to side

    Ive been looking at these for ages, researching across the internet about what lens to get. Need something better than my 70-300 vr. Your review has just made up my mind. Ive just clicked on buy.
    Thankyou. Cant wait to get out in the New Forest with this.

      DJ HOODY hey dude ! I’d hold off if you can. I’ve reviewed a tamron this last weekend and editing the video as we speak. I won’t put the vid up till the weekend but I would say that I think the tamron 150-600 has better autofocus than the sigma..... and possibly better image quality. They are both great lenses and the difference is marginal, but thought I’d let you know!

      Ian Brown thank you very much ! I try and keep it to what I consider the main things I think about when buying a lens. Reviewed the canon 70-200mm this weekend. Let me know if there’s anything else you want reviewing or if you want more detail for the next one :)

    The lens lock is meant to be a soft lock in positions other than 150 and 600. It is meant to release upon a gentle move of the zoom ring. Quite intentional.

    I use this on my D7200 which is APSC sensor.. also on the D7200 you can crop the image down in the image area setting to another 1.3x so it gives you even more than 900mm.. think its something like 1200mm and still have a decent image

    I am looking to buy my first zoom lens and I am hesitating between the Canon 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 and the Sigma Contemporary 150-600mm f/5.6-6.5. Thanks for the video, very helpful and loved the photos examples throughout the video, it really help to understand. Nice job!

      Hey Camie! No worries thanks for your comment and kind words. I will be reviewing the tamron 150-600 hopefully this weekend which I have read may have slightly faster af than the sigma... but only slightly , I imagine the image quality will be much the same. Canons are dreamy and I have seen them for £500 second hand, I’m just not a fan of the push/pull zoom set up but that’s just a personal thing. I’ll see if I can get my hands on a canon and compare it to the tamron this weekend. I think the extra 200mm makes a difference, especially on a full frame , but if you have a cropped sensor then the 400 goes to more like a 600 sooooo it’s a tough ... as it always is with buying a lens! Glad you liked the video and if there’s anything you want more of let me know in terms of content. Trying to find the balance between enough info to get a lens , but not too much stuff that (well at least people like me ) people really don’t care about ha. Thanks!

      @DroitAnimal 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for your reply! I forgot to mention, I am looking at the second edition of the Canon 100-400mm (markII), which they got rid of the push/pull zoom (what a good thing, not a fan either). It retails for roughly 2800$AUD (tax included), which is way more than the Sigma (1500$AUD tax included). I do have a full frame (Canon 5DmkIV), and that's why my main concern is reach and that extra 200mm... but the Canon have a better fstop and produce better images/faster, plus it's supposed to be more weather resistant. I'm so torn! I was looking at the Sigma because no other 600mm is affordable on the market for me. But I found that I could add a Canon extender 1.4x, which wouldn't cancel my autofocus passed f/5.6 because my camera body can handle it.... maybe that's an option (way more expensive option, but still one). I would really love to see comparison between those 2 lenses mostly for the image quality/sharpness/autofocus... but they are not common to both have in your bag so it makes it harder haha! Anyway, I found your review amazing in term of content. That's exactly the information I was looking for, and LOVED the photos examples provided. Loved that you were outside for the review (but a bit windy at times) and love the background music.

    • @exploretheroad-douglasparker
      @exploretheroad-douglasparker  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Wow ok the mark 2 is a dreamy lens! I think if money is no option.......... I would probably go for the canon and the doubler ha. Other photographers like Morten Hilmer have both extremely expensive nikon 600s etc but then also the sigma as well. It is a cheap option yes, but one thing which I haven't mentioned in this video is actually its size with regards to its ability. I have just come back form a shoot where I was primarily using the canon 500mm f4 II , stunning lens ..... BUT ITS MASSIVE! so heavy and cumbersome with the other 29 cases of camera kit we were carrying around. These tamrons / sigmas and almost like the Mavic drones of the telephoto world, you can have 150-600mm, 70-200mm and 24-70mm all in one bag no problem ... and thats pretty sweet. Thank you very much for the comments on the video, makes a big difference with how I set up future reviewss. Tamron coming your way soon!

      @willherondale6367 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Camie Probably recommend the canon if money isn't a concern, however bear in mind you're usually going to get sharper results nearer f8-f11 with this superzooms anyway

    • @cooper9917
      @cooper9917 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      the 100-400mm from Canon is 3lbs lighter. if you have the money, absolutely choose the Canon. it also takes 77mm filters so you can throw a polarizer on for landscapes. I owned the Canon and loved it. believe me the lighter weight of the Canon, better autofocus, and Canon iq will be way better than the sigma over time.

    Between this lens and the tamron 150-600mm G2 what would your pick be?

    • @exploretheroad-douglasparker
      @exploretheroad-douglasparker  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Its swings and round abouts really but I would say the build quality of the sigma is better so I would go for that :)

    I’m so glad I watched this. Mine came today. Curious I also got the 1.4X as part of the kit. So what would be my total on a Nikon D7500

    • @exploretheroad-douglasparker
      @exploretheroad-douglasparker  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The Vaping Angler hey there! Glad you enjoyed the video! I’m not a Nikon user but correct me if I’m wrong that’s a full frame sensor same as my 5D mrk3 , so at the long end would be around 850mm with the extended but your minimum f stop will be around f8.

      Explore The ROAD - Douglas Parker so this lens is good for tracking things like flying birds?? I too want something with more reach than my 70-200 but I’m more of a portrait/event shooter so buying one of those beautiful Canon L lenses that cost as much as a car doesn’t make sense. I was looking at the Sigma 100-400 but I heard it doesn’t track well but is a good zoo lens. I found it enjoyable to shoot nature and not have to always deal with talking to models. It’s relaxing. I want to get good results too though :)

    What would be a good option for filming deer? At Max up to 600-700 yards away and still make out good detail? The videos will just be for me to look at, I like to keep track of different deer in my area. Looking for most budget friendly options, is that even possible?
