I think this helps with realising where my images come from in terms of distance. Hello Douglas, thank you for this. I am constantly surprised by the number of people from diverse backgrounds who tell me that the behind the scenes DVD extras from BBC or Nat Geo are their favourite part….a Scottish camera operator spends weeks of trekking to a location in Mongolia , spends 3 days in a camera blind for 30 seconds of Snow Leopard footage. There is huge interest, I have watched BBC Spring Watch BTS and was amazed at the seemingly kilometres of cables snaking its way from remote cameras to a production truck. I am really hoping that you will stick with this as many of us who religiously consume BBC earth and similar material are very interested in the “how” of it. Thank you for doing this.

    Can I ask, do you really need a bachelors of science majoring in zoology or something to pursue this career? Will it be a lot easier?

    • @exploretheroad-douglasparker
      @exploretheroad-douglasparker 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hey there! It’s one of those things where it helps if you have it, researching stories requires a lot of paper reading and contacting scientists. HOWEVER, if you have made your own film (mini personal project film or big private funded film) about … gorillas … and you contacted researchers and made a programme. That carries more than enough weight to say you can research and create films. It’s not something you absolutely need to get the job, helps … but isn’t essential. But you need a plethora of evidence effectively that you can make films. That evidence can be our own projects , photography , science degree , volunteering with animal projects … anything.

    Hi. I have had this lens for about three years now and shoot it on both Nikon D2x and D4. It’s an amazing lens for the price. I believe I paid around 500£ for mine and it was like new. I shot it quite often with 1,4 Tc which still gives fantastic results. It can even go with the 2x Tc when placed on a good tripod and use proper long lens techniques.

    • @exploretheroad-douglasparker
      @exploretheroad-douglasparker 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Igor. I think so yes, your canon should have a red dot on the mount like my 80d so you should be able to but worth double checking. If I am not mistaken your camera has a APS-C size sensor so the lens would turn into a more of a 100-300mm when you factor in the crop factor :)

    I use this on my D7200 which is APSC sensor.. also on the D7200 you can crop the image down in the image area setting to another 1.3x so it gives you even more than 900mm.. think its something like 1200mm and still have a decent image

    What would be a good option for filming deer? At Max up to 600-700 yards away and still make out good detail? The videos will just be for me to look at, I like to keep track of different deer in my area. Looking for most budget friendly options, is that even possible?

  • @ThomasSielaff

    The lens lock is meant to be a soft lock in positions other than 150 and 600. It is meant to release upon a gentle move of the zoom ring. Quite intentional.

      Explore The ROAD - Douglas Parker so this lens is good for tracking things like flying birds?? I too want something with more reach than my 70-200 but I’m more of a portrait/event shooter so buying one of those beautiful Canon L lenses that cost as much as a car doesn’t make sense. I was looking at the Sigma 100-400 but I heard it doesn’t track well but is a good zoo lens. I found it enjoyable to shoot nature and not have to always deal with talking to models. It’s relaxing. I want to get good results too though :)
