I like the idea that Waveceptor is something to do with the ocean, but I think you'll find it's short for something like Radio Wave Reception. It's a Casio trade name for their radio/atomic watches.
I found this out after the fact, I appreciate the comments.
It is g shock without rough case plus solar plus sync. Buy it with metal bracelet you can wear it on everything. This watch will be mine. I'm sick of mine g shock gaining constantly few minutes in month.
@@PpaStrmpf That was my thought too... a g-shock for adults. Unfortunately the NIST radio tower in Colorado is scheduled to shut down. If that happens, then the automatic time sync in the USA will go away. I believe there are some watches that sync time via gps (satellite)...
@@ivermec-tin666 *_Thankfully that didn’t happen. If the NIST does happen to go black, Casio has a line of Bluetooth enabled G-Shocks that will sync its time with your phone to keep precise time. I have a GRB-100 & a GW-B5600 - both are Bluetooth, Tough Solar, & the GW-B5600 is Multi Band 6/Wave Ceptor - that I’ve recently acquired. Oh yeah, Casio also have GPS satellite enabled (as well as Tough Solar) timepieces, such as the GPW-1000 & the GPW-2000. Haven’t gotten the GPW-2000 yet. The GPW-1000 works like a charm & is also a Multi Band 6 model. My favorite watch company is aiming to cover all bases._*
@@tarheelred28390 I don't believe NIST will go down. That was apparently a misreporting.
I live in the shadow of a mountain in a house with lead paint, and cannot get the NIST signal indoors. I use Android based apps to sync my gshock, junghans makes one, casio made one too. I don't care for bluetooth devices. BT is an inherently insecure network.
The "wave" refers to radio waves...it syncs itself every night keeping perfect time. You probably don't have to "set" it. My radio wave Citizen sets the time and date by itself with the radio waves.
Best to leave the watch on a window sill on a window facing west in your case. That works for my watch.
The user manual says that some functions go to a sleep state after 60-70 minutes, in the dark to save power; second hand moves to the 12 0'clock position and stays there, LCD display goes blank. After 6-7 days in the dark, all hands stop at 12 0'clock position and all other functions are disabled. To recover from sleep state; expose watch to bright light or press any button. Hands immediately begin moving around the dial to proper time. The first time I seen the hands spinning around the dial, I thought the movement had broken but it's the programmed function. It looks so uncanny. COOL!!!
Radio controlled, solar powered, time zone specific, reverts to quartz if it can't get a signal, waterproof to 300+ ft ...and my one cost less than £80 ($100) brand new boxed.
That's pretty darn close to perfect in my book!!

Just a point on likely longevity. I have an older model Casio waveceptor with the 4 buttons and is still keeping perfect time after 15 YEARS.
I keep in on sunny window sill when I'm not wearing it.
Can you please tell me the lug to lug distance? I have a small wrist and am worried this would be too big for me.
Really pleased to have just found this review, a bit late in the day, it's now 2023, but I have to say I agree absolutely with your review and I am still wearing mine every day, it's as good as new, (a couple of minor scratches) and I have not had a moments problem with it since the day it came out of its box. I have the same model of Casio Wave Ceptor. I think mine is around 4 or 5
years old now....It's never been lower than "high" on the battery
level....Even when I've had it out of the light for a couple months. You
say yours syncs up to the atomic clock a few times a week, but mine
syncs up nightly...Probably depends on the location, if you're near a
window or not....
Regardless, it does try to sync up with the atomic clock every
night....I just keep mine on the window sill when not wearing it, and
the light there will keep the battery perpetually charged....and the
signal constantly keeps it updated with the precise time to the
second...It's never lost a second of time....So, you never need to worry
about the battery....It's always charged...And you never need to worry
about setting it and time accuracy...It's an atomic watch therefore it's
always the most precise, accurate time you can have.
I find that the crystal is extremely scratch resistant.....In almost 5
years of constantly wearing it, I haven't scratched the crystal
anyway....I did get a couple micro scratches...(hardly noticeable
without a magnifying glass) on the metal bezel.....One thing I will say
is that it's much classier and more beautiful that the video depicts,
because those little minute and hour markers are beveled like a diamond
to glitter in the light.....Really an amazing effect....It really does
look like an expensive piece of jewelry...I love this watch and will
probably wear it until I die which will probably be before the battery
ever dies....
It's the only watch you'll ever need, unless you collect watches, but
practically speaking, you don't need anything more than this...It's
extremely light weight and comfortable.....Given the trend towards big,
bulky, over sized watches, I'm sure some will find this to be a welcome
relief...During the day it's so comfortable, I hardly notice it's there,
which is what you want in a watch....When you need it, it's
there...Other wise, you forget you're wearing it.

I have a Casio WVA470J-1ACF which is very similar but lesser functioning four button model with atomic clock reception limited to just Japan and the USA.
A great watch though the crystal has received some scratches after five years of daily wear. Still has the original resin band which shows no sign of fatigue.
The WVA470 was the predecessor to the WVA-M640. I have a WVA470 as well and I love the watch. The only thing I have had to do to the thing since I purchased it many years ago was to take the thing apart and adjust the leaf spring between the digital board and the analog module that controls the hand because it somehow came loose through the years of probably banging it around. Since I have done that, the watch has worked perfect ever since!
The titanium case/band version of this is even better....
For a dressier version _with a sapphire crystal_ check out LCW-M100TSE-1AJF (a "JDM" watch). For the money, this one is an awesome choice though. My modest collection is all Casio. Absolutely love the brand.
This is just a FYI for all Casio Solar Powered watches. On the bottom of the caseback are a combination of eight letters and numbers. The first four I believe is a factory designation. The last four, or in this case is 258E designated what you can call a born on date. This watch was made on the 258th day of 2015. The letter E being the 5th letter in the alphabet or the 5th year, so the letter A would be 2011, B would be 2012, and so on...

Mine 306C - which is November 2nd 2013....fascinating (not that long before I bought it!). Richard - you have to go further below (where the watch meets the strap, between the two screws, to find the right number). And if you're like me - you'll need a magnifying glass :)

It Is a perfect watch! I've used mine for over 5 years now including a daily shower. Excellent watch. I finally had to change the battery, I think the battery took a beating because it does not get charged properly during winter. I fixed the band popping off with a couple of small o-rings. Nice Review! Hope your website is up & running soon.

The pins you short out are usually labelled AC.
I have the M650 version with 2 digital displays: what to say, it's a wonderful near perfect watch. As you said, a watch needs to be reliable, accurate and comfortable. These are the main attributes that count IMO, the others are unimportant. And this watch has all of these 3 qualities. I bought it new for 95 Euros, but even if I had payed more, it would still have been a good price for what the watch offers. It looks more expensive than it is (kinda looks like a Breitling Aerospace btw). Great review and answering to your question: Yes, this can be considered as a perfect watch IMO.
I use to have for many years lovely and trusty WVA M490 4709. Still miss it.

I have worn this watch daily for two years and have been very pleased. In South Texas it syncs most but all nights. In Northern Minnesota it never synched. Crystal is scratched but will someday get around to having it professionally polished. BTW, my 15 or 20 year old EcoDrive watches are doing the two second jerky hand sweep so these capacitors are not eternal.
Polywatch should sort out the crystal scratches. It's "resin glass" according to Casio's website, not mineral glass ..by that I assume it's hard plastic.
@@BaddaBigBoom since I posted this comment I did get Polywatch and it did polish the crystal well. But now the timer alarm has become inaudible. It still chimes but I can't hear it unless I hold it up to my ear. So I still wear the watch occasionally but for daily wear I got a Casio tide graph watch. Not elegant and not a wavecepter but I live near the ocean so I like it. I can also hear the alarm when cooking on the BBQ.
I have a Lorus Kinetic watch which has been running reliably for the best part of 30 years. The capacitor in that is showing no signs of giving up.
I agree with you that this is a fantastic watch, recently I was thinking that the only way to make this better would be to have Arabic numerals, with the metal bracelet, and then make it 200 m water resistant. Turns out I only got Arabic numerals after looking at Japanese models of this watch. I'm awaiting my new one currently. Great video keep it up.

I just purchased one of these watches in Japan for $95 cdn.....i cant believe how many features it has for the price....looks great, incredibly light, world clock, the moment i turned it on the time was set. Solar powered....this is how all watches should be. Amazing
I've been looking for a Casio Waveceptor at a reasonable price and that one looks amazing value for money. The only thing that worries me is that resin band. I haven't had any watch with a resin band that hasn't broken and that one looks mega thin. They seem to last about 2 years and then just snap and being a custom fit I doubt you couldn't replace it without sending it back to Casio which wouldn't be cost effective. Basically if the band snaps it's junk which is a shame but being only £69 GBPs on Amazon it might be worth taking a chance. I love the way the second hand hits all the minute markets spot on, I've seen mega expensive four digit figure watches that don't do that. Good video .. thanks.
Other watches come and go, but I've worn this model every day for 3 years. I agree it's pretty much the perfect set-and-forget watch. Easy to change time zones, too. A tube of Polywatch from Amazon is really useful for buffing out the odd scratch to the glass.

is an atomic watch that receives radio waves from NIST,thus the name waveceptor.

Not just the NIST, the way it says "MULTIBAND 6" means that it can get time signals from time standards in the USA, the UK, Germany, Japan and China.
You were probably trying the manual receive of the radio signals during the day, without success. All radio (land based) controlled clocks/watches attempt their automatic radio reception during nighttime hours (e.g. 2:00 AM) to avoid the interference caused by the sun. If you want to have a watch that will reliably sync during daytime hours, you need one that is picking up satellite signals (e.g. GPS), like a Citizen Satellite Wave (or live closer to Fort Collins, CO).
Thanks for the tips. I actually trued manual and letting it try at night. I left it all over the house when i went to bet to see if it would sync. It worked about 40% of the time. he good news is ti worked in Europe perfectly.

I'm quite sitting on the fence and can't make up my mind whether to spend the extra money on the Casio Lineage model that comes with a slightly smaller case, a metal strap and a sapphire crystal. Apart from that, the Lineage houses exactly the same module.

Try putting your watch on a windowsill and you should be able to sync daily. Also your battery will stay charged. I have also worn this watch down to 80 feet diving in open ocean.

IMO the WVA-M630B is the better watch. Arabic numerals, cleaner bezel and lume on the numerals. One of the best field watches available at any price. I have the black version on a Zuludiver Classic Bond NATO.
Ok it's not perfect. Imagine the MVA-M630B-1AJF face in a titanium and sapphire LCW-M100TSE case! I wonder if this is possible considering both use the 5161 module and both seem to have the same face diameter. If you could pull that off I'm willing to argue it would make the best field watch on the planet.
Very IMPORTANT in an review: What is the material of the crystal? Plastic (plexiglass or other)? Polycarbonate? Mineral glass? Synth sapphire? (obviously not at that price point)... you can change the amount of time light stays on either 1 2 or 3 sec i looked up the manual for it and it said in there only problem i have is I'm in Australia dont think the radio control setting works here do you know any way i might be able to use it here great Vidio Ps i brought the Mens Casio Waveceptor Titanium Alarm Radio Controlled Watch had to buy it from England

Unfortunately not correct with the 5161 module used in this watch...
I have a similar version, the one with a blue dial and metal bracelet.
The watch, as you said, is a very complete timepiece, it really has it all.
There are only a couple of things I don't like about it:
- the painted second hand practically disappears on the dark background in anything but very bright light. Mine is only half-painted and in dim light it looks like the second hand is half broken, with only a remaining stub visible.
- the domed crystal is unnecessary, it is too reflective, a flat crystal would have looked much better. It also scratches easily with normal indoors use.
- at night, when the watch is in power saving mode, the light button doesn't work right away, meaning the light doesn't come on with the first press of the button. When I first press the light button, the watch wakes up from power saving mode and the second hand moves into position, and only after that, with a second press of the light button does the LED light up.
Otherwise, I like the Casio attention to detail on even a low-priced watch like this, the features it offers are more than anyone could expect from a wristwatch in any price range, and it is a good looking watch, too. The plastic part is practically invisible while I wear the watch. Let's hope durability won't disappoint either.

Wave as in Radio Wave - 'Ceptor' as in Interceptor. It literally intercepts the radio waves. Nothing nautical.

I can not get mine to cync at all. I even got the APP (Clock Wave) It dose not sink up to that also. I don't know how to fix this problem. If you got any info that would help thanks in advance... Rich-Alabama

I have the titanium version, it weights nearly nothing. The problem is that they sell it als titanium, but in fact it is resin with a titanium coating.

Can you change the strap on these?
Yes, but it wont look exactly the same because they are molded to the case.
Actually, Casio makes the strap to these harder to add a custom since they put two plastic nubs that extend into where the pin goes to hold the strap on. Kind of like intertwining your fingers together with a pencil between your fingers and try to pull them apart. This makes the base of the strap extremely strong. However, the resin they use for the strap over time gets brittle and can break in the middle. The best way I have found is to pull the straps off the watch and wash them in a mild detergent to get all the oils from your skin out of them so they last much longer.

You really have to check the manual. I know I always forget also and I keep the manual in my PC.
No solar and higher quality case then I’m onboard. This still looks cheap.
I am curious -- why do you not want solar? I find that Casio and Citizen both make very good solar watches that run on very little light. I have come to the point that I only buy solar or mechanical watches, but not traditional quartz/battery watches. I hate having to frequently replace batteries.
@@P_Ezi Repairs. Quartz can be easily replaced or maybe even repaired. Solar sometimes have to be sent back to the manufacturing place.
