That looks like a nice project and as you say very quiet. I have an Elliot 10M that needed a lot of work but I’ll be making swarf this year. Would be interested to hear about the history of Douglas shapers. Looking forward to seeing more.
I just had a look on the net at an Elliot 10M, very nice looking machine. In comparison to the Australian made Douglas, the Douglas shapers were very basic.
@@johnnyciantar Thanks I just noticed Marty of Matty’s Workshop also has a Douglas. One thing I will be looking at is reducing the cross feed increment by increasing the No. of indexing teeth on the wheel.
Hi mate, yes, you’re correct, when the direction is changed, I also need to adjust the next link back, another 180 degrees which I didn’t do while making the video.
Hi Jonny, I have subscribed rang the bell, and subscribed. I have exactly the same shaper, so i will be watching every thing you put out. Do you know if these machines were originally 3 phase, mine has a single phase motor as well. I am not quite sure what you call it , but i had a new cross movement brass nut made as the old one was threaded, its still a bit tight and isnt working as it should. it should wear in i think.
Hi, thanks for the thumbs up. I'm not sure if there was an option for single or three phase when these were built. I've got a new single phase motor on my shaper now, just haven't had time to make a video but I'll try to do one soon. That doesn't sound good about your lead screw nut, hopefully everything is all lined up ok and your lead screw isn't bent. If it's binding and not working freely, you may need to have a closer look. I know with my machine, when I manually move the table with the hand lever, it moves quite easily.
@@johnnyciantar the screw isn't bent, and the nut is only just a wee bit tight it should be ok after a while. It needs to be run in. Have you found anything on the internet about these shapers.
