Just found this devlog series today, cant believe I couldn't find these till today. anyway, the game itself looks absolutely fun to play and is very polished already. Cant wait to play the game!

I find it funny to see you redraw the same UI for the 3rd time with extra effort but eh, that's what game dev is all about. Also I know you know that already (plus tweaking really is a long term job), but what you call 'Calm Wind' looks more like 'Hurricane Start' than 'Soft Breeze' to me. Did you try weaker intensities and if yes, was it too faint to notice ? That being said, good luck with the stack of editing ahead of you.

Nice work! The new combat UI fits the game better and animating the background seems a good idea. But the trees move like in a hurricane - exept the dead ones, which look like level 9 earthquake ... ;)
Aaah the sweet feeling of armageddon when taking a stroll through nature ;) - jokes aside, the wind intensity is something I can dynamically adjust during gameplay. At the end of the vid, I cranked it up pretty high to really show off the effect!

Pretty bold changes for sure! But smart that the base of your decisions is not looks but instead based on the story behind your game. Pretty cool way of animating the environment, normally I've seen it done by splitting trees into different sprites or sections, but this way it does look a lot more uniform all across, although a tad too strong imo. Love the new UI but I was a bit surprised because originally, I thought this was a 'martial arts or ninja' kind of game due to the animations. I love the nordic theme but now I don't know if those fast animations are in sync with the way of the bulky northern warrior. Fantastic job overall!
Thanks man! And Yeah I pretty much cranked up the wind intensity to its maximum to really show off the effect! As for the animations, I want to make you feel like a tempest on the battlefield. My original vision was always to emphasize the ''way of the sword'' more than anything. However, that's not to say that there won't be any heavy feeling moves - cause they're coming ;)! My goal with the nordic/celtic aesthetics is not necessarily to make everything feel bulky/heavy, but to create an ancient warrior feel around the visuals. I think this particular clash of style (heavy nordic elements, arthurian/celtic visuals and swift animations depicting mastery of the sword) will really take shape once I start updating my 3D models/animations and adding particle effects, sounds and music!
Really cool video and all, but I am concerned that this project is stuck in polish hell. Not to sound to negative but the game doesn't even seem demo ready since there is no higher level, ie level select, difficulty increasing, highscores. It feels like the game has been polished forever and alot of question marks still surround how the game will even play. Just a concern of mine as its been 5 months and it sounds like that time was used for polish rather than carving out the gameplay experience. Great video though, love seeing AoT clips no matter where they be
Good point! It may seem like it from the outside, but I have these things already planned out. It's true that at the moment the game isn't demo ready, but that's because I still need to implement other things before focusing my attention elsewhere. I don't have the luxury to jump from one aspect of the game to another as I'm solo on the project. I can only work on so many things at once. BUT don't worry, those 5 months weren't lost in polish hell ;)! Quite the contrary! Almost everything you mentioned is next in line for future videos, as I'm still following my 2020 roadmap! Thanks for the feedback, at least I know you're here to bring me back on the right path if I begin to lose sight of my goals ;)

Wind intensity is a parameter I can modulate. I cranked it up in this video to really show off the effect. It can go from non existent to hurricane levels of mayhem, it's just a question of what type of atmosphere I want for a particular situation.
AOT is my life blood! Little secret... I used a specific AOT song in the intro of my 3rd video... I've got a bunch of nods to the series here and there in my videos ;)

They 100000% used a Vertex shader to animate the wind in witcher 3. Skinning and rigging the trees would bog the games performance down
