And you cant just not be gay (someone actually said that you can just be not gay it was on youtube and he had that weird gay flag with 🚫 sign wich pretty obviously means they didnt grow up with a father) its really weird. And people think it's not as bad as racism or sexism even though it is sexism if you really think about it (yes im a whole year late)

      surround yourself with homophobic people :troll:

    • @TheSpacePlaceYT
      @TheSpacePlaceYT ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I'm not homophobic but I don't particularly agree with the moral implications of homosexuality. I'm a Christian who disagrees with homosexual practice in general and I feel like some of the arguments brought up by people of the LGBTQ+ community are sometimes either nonsensical or simply misguided. I have gay friends, and they respect me as much as I respect them. I overall feel like homophobia is something that isn't particularly a bad thing (talking about the dislike or unconfortability aspect, not the prejudicial aspect). I think that being confortable with homosexual practices isn't something that you are obligated to do because people support it. It's your choice to determine how you feel, but I believe you should respect everyone if you're homophobic or not.
      As for the other side, I would also like to add that while some people act as if someone is acting irrational to be unconfortable with homosexuality. I think those people truly can't see another person's perspective well enough to consider it. Some people are turned down by the idea due to religious beliefs, but also due to the fact that some people forced the practice on them. I hope homosexuals or people in that community don't choose to be like that and force this lifestyle on other people who choose to avoid it.
      I guess the simple argument "don't be homophobic" is not only super basic and inconsiderate, but also implies that we're doing something wrong by feeling a certain way about sexual practices. This isn't about race or gender, both of which have no moral implications. This is about sex, which makes anyone justified to feel a certain way about it. "Don't be homophobic" has the same implication as "don't be gay." (Before anyone says this, you can definitely change your sexual orientation-as in you have a choice to be gay or straight and the idea of this being unchangable is entirely a myth made to have an argument to justify these practices-and as a result, both implications work.)
      To summarize, I think that asking someone not to be homophobic without understanding their perspective puts me off because it implies that there isn't any more to the reason why they're homophobic. My parents are both friends with gay people and also tell me that despite the fact that it's wrong, we should never attack people because of it. I think the prejudice side is completely wrong and we should never judge or discriminate against gay people simply because they are gay. The answer shown in the video, understandably, was meant to be fast and quick, so they couldn't go into detail, but I think that adressing this with a "pick this side" attitude isn't the best approach.
      PS
      I'm using the definition of homophobic that refers to either the dislike or unconfortability with gay practices. I'm not referring to prejudice against gay people.

    For the person with the messy room (or anyone who struggles with that), after you take accountability for your mess, here's some practical advise on how to tackle it.
    If something is going to take less than two minutes to do, don't put it off. Do it the moment. If cleaning something is going to take longer than two minutes, schedule a time for it in the near future.
    For example, putting your books back on the shelf. Less than two minutes, do it as soon as you're finished. If you're not sure if you're done reading for the day (don't lie, first off, you are), put a bookmark in. It's easy as hell to take a book back out and open to where you left off. If it's something like dirty clothes on the ground, putting those in a basket takes less than two minutes, do it. If you're going to rehang clothes that don't need to be washed and that takes time, lay them on a surface for the time being. But honestly, the longevity of your clothes will improve if you just take care of them in the moment. Laundry can be a long task, so make a day for it. Don't wait to put away your clothes after they're dry, include that time in the schedule on laundry day.
    The two minute rule has helped reduce the worst of my procrastinating and pile-up of things I leave lying around. The other thing I've done, which has honestly been time consuming as all hell, has made it easier to access and put away things. I despise drawers because they're a pain to open and close and open and close and open and close and dig around through then the whole drawer is messy and it's so annoying. So for my clothes, I literally built shelves. They're just easier to see and manage, so I'm more likely to actually put my clean clothes away. For my art supplies, of which I admit to hoarding, I organized all of them. It took actual days. But now they're easy to find, they all have an easy place to access, and now it's simple to put them back in their box and in their home. It's not a perfect system yet (it includes fuckin' drawers, ugh), but it's much less of a chore to clean up. Even when I'm not sure if I'm done painting or sewing for the day, I know it's not going to be a hassle to put away only to take it out forty minutes later.
    So yeah, two minute rule, and make a system for your stuff that is easy to access. It makes cleaning up so much easier, and it makes me way less stressed because I'm not surrounded by stuff. My mom was a hoarder, so clutter makes me so anxious. My ADHD makes it easy for me to bounce around hobbies and tasks, so I've had to make it a simple thing to stop and restart projects AND keep my space tidy. Wasn't the easiest task to accomplish, but so worth it.

    • @neliaferreira9983

      Do you need 5 pairs of black trousers? No.
      Do you need cds? No, just keep your faves and use the internet for the rest.
      Do you need to keep those books you already read? No, sell or give them away. And stop buying more! Use the library, borrow them, get pdfs.

      My problem is figuring out what even needs to be done and how to do it. It feel like my brain can't even comprehend what the issues are a lot of the time. I don't actively put it off, I just literally don't know what it is. So how do I do something I can't think of? Big problems I can't figure out the how and many other problems I can't even find. Even though I know it's there. (I believe I also have ADHD)

    • @Prizzlesticks
      @Prizzlesticks 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@AnimeRayanne Now that's relatable. It took them 30 years to give me an ADHD diagnosis, and damn. How do you retrain the brain of bad habits and relearn executive functioning from the ground up? I sure do wish they'd worked it out sooner with me.
      One thing that has helped me is finding a style of journaling and note taking. I have always been huge on lists, although I have the habit of losing them or forgetting which notebook I wrote it in, etc. Maybe it's a gamer brain thing, but I love crossing things off a list. And, it helps me put thoughts in order. I make lists for groceries, for chores, for wishlists of items I want to buy, for craft projects I'm working on, for weekly tasks.... I can break down something like 'sew dress' into additional bullet points of 'cut out pattern; trace pattern; cut fabric; mark seam allowance'... and so on, so I keep track of how much I've done and how much there is left to do as well.
      I learned of a style of journaling called Bujo, which can be as plain or fancy as you want. The biggest draw is the journal has an index. So whatever page you decide to put your list on, whether it's in order or not, you can add it to the index and find it later.
      What I wouldn't recommend doing is trying to set up a fancy bujo right away, nor would I recommend starting a journal right in the middle of a hectic life moment. I was pretty good with my old planner, but swapped to bujo right as I started a new job. Now everything is a meeeeeess. Take time to practice with it before giving up any other organizational hacks you use to skate by.
      I can't say I have my life in order now, but between spending a lot of time creating a system to store my things and committing to a style of planner that allows me to be disorganized in an orderly way, I have somewhat improved. At the very least, my apartment is cleaner. My internal landscape is still a piping hot mess tho. :)

    • @AnimeRayanne
      @AnimeRayanne 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Prizzlesticks I also wish people figured out my mental issues and tried to help me sooner. It's really is difficult trying to deal with it all when I'm already an adult. Which makes me feel worse about myself too, like I should do better now cause I'm an adult. (I'm 20 almost 21 so younger than you were though.) My parents always knew something was up but they have their own issues and didn't know how to help me. My mom has anxiety and depression and my dad has depression and apparently bipolar disorder. There's so many things I'm "supposed" to do that I was never even taught and I can't learn as easily as other people. Looking it up is just overwhelming and I can't really conprehend it by only seeing it like that. I'm still living with my mom in the apartment that I grew up in. So many problems that were already there before I was even aware that they were an issue... How do you deal with years of house neglect that's been present since you were a child? When you've never even been taught how to do basic things like mopping the floor?
      I also have quite a few lists. I keep them online though so I don't have to worry about losing them. Lol. The To Do List for stuff like clearing is hidden below one that's more about entertainment though. Sometimes I'll just send myself stuff on messenger cause lists can get overwhelming for me. I worry to make about the way it written or how organized it is. I do like going back to a list and being able to erase what's already done. Especially with how much I forget I have that one and then can get rid of a few things at once. Even though I did those things so far apart. A lot of the time I'm just going to forget to even add it to a list though. It's either important enough that is in my daily routine which I remember, a big problem that's too overwhelming to do or a little problem that I'll keep forgetting exists.

I worked extra hard to make people around me happy and they just ended up taking advantage of me. I went from psychiatrist to psychiatrist, therapist to therapist, I took so many different meds and I still felt like sh*t. For me, what helped was realizing that I was in control of my own life. I could do the things I want and Dylan is right taking little steps helps but even if you can’t fathom taking the whole steps is okay. Doing 10% of a step is still progress. At the end of the day, just know you are precious and loved. It takes time to heal yourself and from the pain you have suffered and it’s okay. You don’t need to love the life you have, but hopefully one day you can find peace.

You don't get yelled at to take out the thrash at a specific tine when you were already doing something. You can hang posters with thumbtacks whereever you want. Or if your landlord lets you nail stuff on the wall all kinds of pictures. You can listen to whatever podcast, video, show, movie while doing "chores". Its not a chore anymore think of it as maintenance. So that the next time you want to eat or do stuff you can just reach into the cupboard and not be met with no plates and having to do it before eating. Sorry way to specific i know. If you got no flatmates you can where whatever you want for at home attire. You will figure it out. Dont do it based on how your/you were expected to do it, do it how it is most fitting to you!

    The advice on how to tackle depression by working on becoming happier incrementally is wonderful! I’m generally at a better place than i used to be and I realized that that’s exactly what I did! I slowly removed things that were bogging me down (moved away from my codependent parents, applying for a new job), then when I was getting more energy and motivation I started doing more things for myself, like working on losing the quarantine weight, buying myself nice beddings so I can sleep better, and now entering a healthier relationship. Sometimes I fall into bouts of lower moods and motivation, but knowing that incremental steps is the way to get better, keeps me from getting stuck there. Suchhh great advice dylan!

I have a few favorites which can bring my mood up every single time (this being one of them), and I can't thank you enough for that. Besides being EXTREMELY funny with a lot of creative jokes, you also have such a positive impact on my life. I started taking your advice on doing small steps one day at a time towards happiness, and I can already feel better. I don't know if you'll ever read this, but I just had to put it out there, so thank you again, Dylan

    To the person who is struggling with suicidal thoughts:
    While the advice Dylan gave is great and can be helpful, some people are depressed due to chemical imbalances rather than problems within their life. The fact that you’re suicidal makes me think that you should try to see a therapist as soon as possible. Existing should not be unpleasant and difficult, and it doesn’t have to be. There are many ways that depression can get better if you ask for help. I promise you that it can get better and people care about you. I hope you get the happiness you deserve ❤️

      @@handle1627 You are right that depression is extremely complicated and there is no clear cut explanation for it. However, sometimes people need help and will not feel better on their own. This is where therapy and medication can be helpful. The only reason I commented this was because many people blame themselves when lifestyle changes do not help their depression, but depression is a complicated beast that is hard to fight alone. Dylan’s advice is good, but sometimes people need professional help and should not feel ashamed to need that.

    Piggybacking off the "1% better" advice Dylan gave for combatting depression: your "one good thing" for the day doesn't have to be major. Did you get out of bed to eat? Awesome! Slept in because you weren't feeling good? Good job taking care of your body! Listened to your favorite music? Perfect. Baby steps make it feel less overwhelming. Good luck everyone, and take care of yourselves

      Also something I realized for me (not all depression is the same I’m sure), a lot of my depression came from constant self criticism. Being mad at myself for not being where I “should be” in life or doing something wrong etc etc. But through therapy I found out doing that to yourself just makes everything worse. If you try being kind to yourself, give yourself patience, change your self talk from criticism to encouragement, that’ll help you to actually start to accomplish the good things you are wanting to do and overall just feel less crappy.
      Working through negative ideas about myself helped too. To see that most of the time they aren’t true.
      (Getting therapy is the best I would encourage anyone to try it if they are able).

    i agree with what you said on the last one. I'm a junior in college rn and even though i wasn't too scared or homesick compared to a lot of people, it was a weird empty feeling, especially that first night when you go to your room in your apartment or dorm alone and you know your family is and will be far away. It definitely gets easier. it feels totally normal now to be making my own life, and while i love my family and have good relationships with all of them, i definitely feel like my own person. It's a really empowering feeling most of the time. I had a really incredible philosophy professor tell my class that freedom can only come with responsibility. That hit me hard, and though rn i'm not following that advice as i'm up at 3 in the morning on youtube, by and large that's been really helpful to me. Take responsibility for your life, and it is good to be on your own! Your family loves you, and you get to form new, long-distance relationships with them and it's really a beautiful thing!

  • @brownieboi1691
    @brownieboi1691 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I relate so much to the feeling of emptiness you mentioned when your family leaves you at your student accomodation/apartment for University/College and you're living alone. I really felt that, and it's been 7 months and I still feel it. It's lesser now and there are good aspects, I have friends at accomodation that I have fun with and it's a sense of mystery and adventure I love. I'm not as close to people here as I am in my hometown so that's the hard part, I still get times I feel really sad that I don't have that homey feeling with family and friends at my hometown. But it's easier to deal with now. I still see my family and friends and it makes it extra special on the days I do see them. I do find myself wanting more breaks to be with them which I do. I also developed a more sentimental quality, wanting them to know how much they mean to me and how grateful I am to them because it breaks my heart thinking if they thought I thought less of them, which I don't at all to any of them. I even love them more. I hate the feeling of missing and loss and I feel like in my life I've barely even felt much of it compared to others.
