Your mention of saving the shavings gave me an idea for a future project...take some of the light colored wood and dye it gold, mix in the red, cast a bowl to honor the Corps.
Maple and red heart do belong together as you said. I am getting ready to do a maple and redheart St. Louis Cardinals theme bowl for someone. Thanks for showing this video! I can tell now I mad the right wood choices even though the redheart price is up there. Thank you sir for your videos. Respectfully, Kevin
I got some clear Silver Maple bowl blanks and some Paduak. It's not redheart, but it will be close. I may detach the top section and put 2 Paduak rings on it. 1 about an inch or 2 down. Then the other on top.
You and your hands remind me of a woodworker who used to have beautiful furniture pieces in the corner of a drapery shop. When I asked, I found out he was from Lebanon. Likely a refugee. Never talked much. But the pieces were beautiful. He took pride in them. One could see that more than a business for him, they were made from the heart with a lot of care. I used to visit the shop just to see them as he had crafted them for other people. Don't know where that family is now...hope he is still out there doing what he loved best.
I’m with Ellen Yeager, there are no flaws, just added beauty. It makes the piece that much more unique. Maple and Redheart certainly match each other. Nice one Rod
It came as a shock to me at the end of the video to learn you'd been ill or injured, and I send you my very best wishes for a speedy recovery. Also to say that to continue with an uninterrupted video output when you're feeling under par is above and beyond the call of duty! The bowl is a beauty, Rod, and the little flaw is part of its charm. And, oh, those colours! Those colours!
I always look forward to Fridays when your videos are available. Your skills are amazing and I thnk you for the enjoyment i have when you are creating a beautiful object. But please take care of yourself and don't stress your shoulder. Hope for your healing. See you next time.
Ron, I am new to wood turning I just viewed your Flame Maple and Red Heart You are a true inspiration, I can't wait to look at more of your projects and anticipate your return and a Speedy Recovery
There is no flaw, only character! Wood, like people, has flaws. They show life! If we want perfection, we mold resin pieces in pressure pots! LOL! Here’s to flaws! Semper Fi! -Ellen
Rod, most of the time, your vision/ideas so feel like something I would come up with, or they inspire me to do something similar. I love the wood combinations and your routed resin bowls as well. I hope to assimilate some of your careful, measured approach with the gouge. And you're schooling me in kindness as I listen to your heartfelt appreciation of others. Thank you! God bless!
You have a great eye for what the work will look like, and really good vision for what you’ll make from the wood. Thanks for all the videos, and all the pictures of your viewers’ work. Always an inspiration to me. Your skill is astounding to me. Keep the faith, and keep on turnin’.
Wow! You've got a wonderful talent for picking out spectacular wood grain and color combinations. I love this. I appreciate your "real time" videos since it shows me a better technique of taking small cuts. I sometimes get too impatient and this never helps when I end up with torn grain from being too aggressive. I've learned a lot of "better techniques" watching you turn... thanks!
Beautiful! They do belong...red heart and flame. And the shavings. Reminding me of a red head's curly tresses. They should certainly make something beautiful one day.
Another very nice piece from the Humphrey shop. You continually turn out beautiful work. Thank you so much. And that single spot on the Redheart segment is like a beauty mark on a lovely lady. Thank you for sharing. Have a swift recovery.
Mr. Humphrey, I hope the shoulder is healing right on schedule, or even faster. I am not a wood worker, but watching you, and listening, I believe I will soon be able to carry on an intelligent conversation about lathe work. God Bless you, and as always, Be Safe. Anchors Away.
Another beautiful bowl Rod. Love the pairing of these two fantastic pieces of very beautiful wood to make one very very beautiful bowl. Can't wait to see what's coming next
Ron, this is one of your BEST builds and turns. The UNDERSTATED ELEGANCE is amazing. That is what makes this turn. Take care of the shoulder!! SAFE TURNING, John
I think you got a great looking piece of Flame Maple there, and, who knew Red Heart could look so bloody good? You took two great looking pieces of wood, and, turned them into a masterpiece. Outstanding work! 👍
Rod, as usual, another stunner. I can’t get over the two way patern inside the bowl. The matchup of the two different woods is always exciting. Be blessed. Hugs to your bride! 😊
What a wonderful bargain for a beautiful piece of wood! When the redheart shavings come off they look like the "flame" explosions out of a Christmas cracker. The maple is extraordinary, like thin layers of sediment laid down over millennia. Truly made from the heart. I appreciate seeing the many examples of your friend's work. Such talent to make so many very different projects, wonderful to see and inspiring for us newer turners. Cheers!
yes, this was filmed pre surgery. I have three more filmed, editing one for this week hopefully. Project videos every couple weeks, hopefully, until recovered 😊
Rod that is a perfect match of woods. And watching that razor sharp bowl gouge follow your commands is very soothing. I think I would display the bowl upside down. The grain from that direction is fantastic. Hope you are healing well and can get back to what you love soon. Take care brother, Gary
Hi Rod hope u are doing well. Just do what doc says and u well be good as new in no time. I love the way u seam to melt the wood in thin layers. Awesome bowl.
Beautiful bowl! The figure is amazing and the two different woods go so well together. Excellent video, your voice is a pleasure to listen to as I watch your skill at work. Take care of yourself.
OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOutStanding!!!!!!!! Purdy darn good wood turning for someone with a bum shoulder. Hope your shoulder gets better soon!!!! Flame Maple is beautiful. Ya done good! You're an excellent source for good wood turning ideas.
Beautiful! You have a real artistic gift for finding, choosing and combining woods. Not to mention your skill in working them into pieces of art. (Take care of you shoulder. I'm so looking forward to watching you work your magic again.)
Praying for a speedy recovery, Rod. Thank you for sharing this stunning bowl. My son gave me a piece of purple heart for Mother's Day. I'm going to rim a cedar bowl in a similar fashion for my sister's birthday. My first project. I'm so thankful for your inspiration.
thank you! careful mixing woods with a high degree of density variance, the natural movement of the wood may cause issues. purpleheart is super hard, cedar very soft. just a thought. thanks
@@RHumphrey Oh my, thank you! That's definitely a newbie mistake. I'll have to figure out how to mitigate that. Maybe a different type of accent with the purple heart will work? Or maybe stabilizing the cedar? I'll think on it. Thank you so much.
Finally, a 1200 grit finish. I usually go up to 1500/2000. I thought I was just peculiar. Amazing piece. Simper Fi, brother. My grandfather and his son were marines, WWI and WWII. I never had the honor.
Every now and then a chunk of wood needs that extra touch. This grain was just too special. Sounds like your family has done quite a bit, thank you! Semper Fi
Grandpa was a carpenter. He was on the North Dakota around 1919. Uncle Al was on his way to the mainland when they dropped the bomb. So glad he made it to 92 years old.
Love your positivity and that you take a moment to thank everyone and help other channels. Your kindness is so needed in today's world. Keep up the great work and I look forward to more videos in the future! (Hope your shoulder healed well)
Very beautiful bowl rob. Have missed your vids, thought they called your back to arms to protect our boarder. Good to see your back to turning. Those two woods definitely go together. Semper fi and aim high.
"Happiness is a sharp bowl gouge"... you need that on a t-shirt and coffee mug.
I'll make that happen right away, thank you!
Awesome bowl Rod, Hope you're doin well, rest up my friend and you'll be back to it in no time !
Thanks Doug

Hope you don't mind me stealing your idea. I live in Eureka by Six Flags.
Uncle Moe Best luck to you! What are you going to make?
I got some clear Silver Maple bowl blanks and some Paduak. It's not redheart, but it will be close. I may detach the top section and put 2 Paduak rings on it. 1 about an inch or 2 down. Then the other on top.
Flaws in the wood add character. Best wishes for your healing and recovery.
I truly enjoy watching you do your amazing skills. You never disappoint.
Awesome Creativity.
Thank you very much!
the MRS here... what a gorgeous project!!! thank you for sharing
Another beautiful turning Sir. Happy Mothers day to Mrs Humphrey and all you other Mom's out there.

Beautiful combination. Flame maple, or any of the figured maples, are a joy to work with and the results are always rewarding. Nice work. Hue
Rod, absolute beauty around this bowl thanks for sharing.!.!.!.
Another gorgeous turning! I enjoyed watching you make it and the instructive comments made it even better! Thanks for sharing !
Rod, very nice bowl! The maple figure is way cool and the red heart compliments it well. Lots of end grain in the red heart gives it so much texture.
This bowl is positively stunning! 💜
Thank you so much, Rod, for your kind words. They mean a lot to me,

fridgewhisperer, I think I read he had one to edit still so there wouldn't be such a gap. I think this was a prerecorded one before the surgery.

Thanks so much Ms Bee!
That finished bowl wit6h the red heart is gorgeous.
Wishing you a speedy recovery. Lovely piece, great combo woods.
I think a lot of woodworkers leave so much beauty of the details of wood from not sanding beyond 220 grit.
A beautiful combination; a simple presentation. Well done.
L'auduace, l'auduace - toujour l'auduace. Stay bold, my friend. Another smash out of the park!
Beautiful piece. Wish for a speedy recovery.
