    Side part vs. center part. Why does one work for some and not others? It has to do with the shape of the face. A face that is longer or even heart shape can successfully wear a center part. If a face is wider or round, then a center part accentuates the width of the face. The side part adds volume to the top of the head and deemphasizes the width and helps to elongate the appearance of the face. Audrey’s mention of fluffing the hair to tweak a look might have something to do with the neckline and it’s affect on the upper 1/3 of the outfit. The volume on the top of the head can help with the 1/3 proportion. Of course, this is just my humble opinion.

      This is a really useful and interesting perspective. I always side part because a hairstylist told me that my facial features are asymmetrical and that a side part de-emphasizes the difference between the two sides of my faces. I I typically wear bangs to de-emphasize the length of my face and create more width. I appreciated your comment because it made me reflect on why I side part and the fact that I don't need to blindly follow the advice of my hair stylist.

    • @Magpieme98
      @Magpieme98 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      I completely agree. I have a round face with a smallish forehead. I wear a side part and I have to fluff up my hair to even out my proportions. If I don’t do it, I just don’t look right!

    • @anastasiya8314
      @anastasiya8314 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I have a square jawline and actually a center part with accentuated front pieces that hang below my jaw give the appearance of a narrower jawline. The side part looks good on me too but it brings more attention to my jawline instead especially on the side where the hair isn’t covering it.

    The one third to two thirds guideline is not always one third on top - it can be the other way around. I am an apple-shape - and it would look dreadful on me. I wear long cardigans or sweaters - which look fine on me as I have longer legs ( like many apple-shapes}. The one third on top looks better on pear-shaped women.

    Lovely video, Audrey. Bringing color up to the face is something I just recently tried since I let my hair go gray as it makes for such a versatile backdrop. I find for me that experimenting with what Audrey suggests you can bring light toward the face which combats the "washed out" look some of us "silver siblings" will encounter. I would have never worn mixed metals or colored ceramics, however, now its a chance for accessories to take center stage if you wear mostly neutrals as I gravitate. . Regarding hair style, I have two 1 inch white streaks on either side of my face and pulling those forward and bounding the rest in a low pony really gives me another canvas to feature larger hoops and drop earrings which I would have never considered. It has been fun to elevate my jewelry game outside of the small studs I have worn for years.

    Lovely content Audrey! I especially valued your input about repeating colours in an outfit - this always seemed a bit hard for me. I always struggled with shoes, for example. Will they look better in a colour of bottoms or can they be more cotrasting to bottoms, but then matching my blouse or sweater? I am slightly more open to experimenting with this, but it is still a challenge, I have to admit.
