I know it's a bit late in the day Jim but the rod end threads are 9/16 x 24unf r/h and l/h threads. Re-tapped mine and you can turn the adjustment bar with 2 fingers .

That's interesting, and it's never too late as I'm intending on keeping the steering box setup up.

Hi Jim. I am restoring a mk1 cortina 1500 aeroflow model 1966. I am wanting to upgrade it to a GT. Have the required covered items cosmetically such as the dashboard RPM and other 4 gauge set, remote gearchange thingy, etc. Now I need to rebuild engine to GT SPECS and uprate anything else such as brakes, clutch, diff, elec wiring, etc.
Your tips and guidance would be appreciated.

      Hi Abid
For the engine the differences between a 1500 and a GT are the camshaft, weber 28 36 dcd carb/ manifold, a mild steel tubular 4 2 1 exhaust manifold and the cylinder head which has different valves (I can't recall the sizes). The manifolds will fit onto a standard 1500 head but you may not be able to use the coolant lines on the inlet manifold as there is a specific water connection on the gt head.
The clutch is the same but don't buy a new old stock one as they can contain asbestos!
Diffs are the same which is handy but the axle is different as the GT has anti tramp bars.
Wiring will need changing for the gauges but I'd use this as an opportunity rlto upgrade to an alternator and add fuses as the original only has 1 fuse! I also used relays for the head lights so I could upgrade to H4 bulbs which are much better for night driving.
That's a starter for you but if you have any more questions just ask!
Good luck with the restoration 👍

@@jimbuilds Thanks Jim for your very useful quick response, considering its Christmas time.
I live in Pakistan but spend 6months in Scotland. I am in Pakistan until May so the Cortina is a winter and spring project. Shall be wanting to keep in touch as I continue work on the project. My time gets a little divided in looking after the other few horses in the stables, all in vg condition but to keep them that way.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. Its been a pleasure hearing back from you. Thx again.

How did you set up the steering box tension, did you use a spring balance on the steering wheel ?

I didn't, other than new gaskets and an inspection of the worn gear I haven't done anything to the steering box.
I did talk to a chap in Coventry who quoted £250 to rebuild the box which I'll do at some point.

Jim do you have a video of how to remove steering wheel of ford corsair?

I don't unfortunately, I know mine can be tight on the splines. have you tried a bit of WD40 then used a rubber mallet on the wheel hub to get it started?
