If you use a paint stripping gun to warm the gears and bearings up, they just drop off easier, same applies on reassembly. If you need to put a bearing on a shaft, warm it up with a heatgun first and just drop it on. The beauty of those gearboxes are they are a lot simpler and have common parts which most people have had remade. Great job. Well done
Hi Steve, I used slick 50 gear oil additive, it was recommended to me for work like this. Given the circumstances it's also readily available from Halfords etc. Good luck with your gearbox. Jim
@johnmoulton-zh9rm I'm up in Nottingham, the gearbox isn't that bad to rebuild. I'd recommend taking your time. Is it a GT selector or a standard 1500?

@@jimbuilds thanks for the info I will look on EBAY
Yes the one thing that spoiled the standard GT cortina was those god dam awful gear ratios .......nice job Jim !
You need an upstand on back of bench.....
Yes totally agree gear ratios were all wrong on Mk1 GT don’t know what Ford was thinking 6000 rpm at 70 mph in top gear ...2000e much better option !
Can you rebuild mine the bearings are gone.if any chance
It would depend on your location
