Nice work! I recommend using a gimbal for your iphone/iPad. It greatly improves the accuracy by reducing the amount of drift error in the device.
Drift error is cause by the device’s accelerometer and gyroscope being design for car navigation and for rotating the screen. As gps isn’t accurate enough in the device it’s forced to use these parameters to calculate its position, resulting in drift errors, as seen in one of your apps✌️

      Thank you!
We find that the larger screen on the iPad combined with the Pen outweighs the benefits of the phone/gimbal combination when capturing building interiors. But it’s marginal and both are powerful tools for capturing existing conditions.
Do you have any recommendations for gimbals for iPad? We’ve tested it for the iPhone (here’s a great video th-cam.com/video/faYZdcYsVUU/w-d-xo.html ).

So which was best among them

    • @LiDAR3D

      To me, they're equally good.
I don't think it would be fair to compare these scans more than what I do in the video. The last app I used was more affected by other apps running in the background and the scanning pattern isn't identical.

Which is the best app to use in AutoCAD software exporting the point cloud in . RCS? Thank you!

Not sure which is best now. I would check out SiteScape and Dot3D for iOS scanning apps for point clouds. In this video all the apps tested are mesh based as opposed to the two mentioned above.

Which would you recommend for capturing outdoor spaces (landscaping, decks, patios, etc)

    • @LiDAR3D
      @LiDAR3D  ปีที่แล้ว

It depends on your requirements. Capturing point clouds with gcp like apriltags will give a more accurate and complete result but it’s more complicated than capturing meshes. We have a comparison video in the channel for more details.
Check out the apps Dot3D for point clouds and Polycam for meshes.

You should try doing that with a gimbal next time.

    • @LiDAR3D

You’re right that gimbals can yield better result. There’s also typically a difference between iPads and iPhone scans since the iPad is held with two hands and thus more steadily

Is there a way to write and mark INTO the scanned Model ? I would like to make notes / marks into it (Not only in 2d photos of the model) ? Thanks for any information

Sorry, missed your comment! For your case we suggest you look into exporting from Polycam to Sketchfab, there you can add annotations in 3D.
This requires a Polycam Pro subscription and a Sketchfab account (up to 10 models on their freemium web3d platform)
      Thanks for watching!

Hello Lidar 3D, Im trying to build a ios app using lidar, would you be able to guide me in the right direction? Im a apple registered developer. I have no idea how to use Lidar in xcode or outsystems. Im building an app I need to be able to recognize the deck of a boat and scan accurately all the edges of the hardware and fiberglass floor.

      Hi!
Based on your description I would reach out to any of these two companies. I believe they do white-label dev for others.

Yes there are some apps with which you can capture in a similar way, but without the iOS LiDAR hardware.
Those apps are usually built with photogrammetry technology which is slightly less accurate and with longer processing time (we have another video about this that describes 4 ways to digitize buildings in more detail)
The latest apps are using NeRF technology which looks like it could replace photogrammetry since it’s easier and generates better models.
      Thanks for watching and commenting
