Brilliant, wow, you've done all the research that was killing me and then reported your findings so concisely - this is very useful. Thank you so much!
Really nice video, thanks! Just for correction, the KIRI Engine export coupon will be refilled to 3 every week. So you can treat it as a totally free app.
Great summary. I've bought the new years deal for Kiri and I'm not dissapointed. Great results and the Gaussian Splatting feature is awesome and getting better with each update.
What a great overview! You must have spent a lot of time making this video, considering only how often you had to take all those photos! You were lucky it wasn't raining :-) Thank you very, very much! - Since you also have some iOs only apps, I would add Lumalabs AI, which also allows to export meshes (but their quality is not as impressive as their Gaussian splatting results) and PhotoCatch. - I also prefer Kiri over any other, especially since it also allows to export PBRs and quad models. And I think it is the cheapest from the paid ones, if I am not mistaken.
Excellent. And some of these let you straighten up the model inside the app so you could just take a screen grab and skip the 3d software part altogether. I’m aiming to put a ‘quick and dirty’ method tutorial together at some point that would slot in to my projection mapping workflow
Great video thanks. I used PhotoCatch on iOS, also free and did a good job of rendering. I can’t remember what output formats were available for the free version.
This is very very cool! Exactly what I was looking for. A bow of respect for you doing all this work for us. Amazing! BTW, Oculus needs to do better of tapping into this market.
Wow, you put in lots of work for this video. Thank You. I also like your mapping videos, seems my projector is slightly under powered for the street lights around me.
great video, thanks. I was looking for something for the past week that just did the outside of buildings into a 3d model, so I can create 2d elevations from it with somewhat accurate window and door sizes and location. I was originally looking at lidar but phone lidar has a limit of 15 feet, and commercial grade lidar is 30 000 for just the hardware, so this looks like the better solution
Unfortunately, WIDAR made a useful model but would not let me export the model (as any of the file types they have) without upgrading to Pro. Not a free option anymore as of March 2024.
Thank you for this. I've watched so many of your videos over the past couple of days. I would like to point out that, from the time you made this video until now, Widar now requires an upgrade to Pro for the "Share with 3D viewer" export option on Android. The "Present" option is still free.
@LumaBox I'm wondering whether the app has changed since you made this video. I've used WIDAR but after making my scan, it won't let me download it unless I join. How were you able to 'air drop' your scan without signing up?
Yes, I think the apps are all being developed and changing with each update. Potentially the features of WIDAR are different now. But do you have to pay to join or can you sign-up for free? I did have to sign up for some services but I never parted with any money.
I don't want to sign up on a cloud to export it into a mesh either... 😳. I want a standalone offline 3d scanner... Preferably with a lot of support for extension file to save to... 😳.. What can I say, I'm a recluse, I want to strive on anonymity... 😁
Basically it is impossible to form the model on your phone, so they have to do it on their servers, and for that, you need to pay... I hope you do one that you can upload your photos on your pc and is for newbies like me. I think Kiri let you have 3 exports per week. Don't know if it has a max photos taken or the file you want to be downloaded for free...
On the plus side, Widar didn't work well on my android phone so I tried the PIX4Dcatch and it worked beautifully! Will need to download on my laptop to view it fully but PIX seemed to work much better on an android phone than the Widar app!
Brilliant, wow, you've done all the research that was killing me and then reported your findings so concisely - this is very useful. Thank you so much!
No worries. Glad it was helpful. I had fun doing the testing so win-win 😁

Ok cool, didn't know that and very good to know! Thanks!
Great summary. I've bought the new years deal for Kiri and I'm not dissapointed. Great results and the Gaussian Splatting feature is awesome and getting better with each update.
Good to hear!
How about the accuracy? Are they in real scale?
Your research effort saved us soooo much time and was super interesting to watch. Nice job and thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
Finally a review on scan apps for buildings and design work flow. Well done and thanks.😊
You're welcome!
Love all your research - really well presented and all the parts that I need covered. Now I have to try out your research myself!
Glad it was helpful 👍
Thank you very much for the resaerch. Never thought about photogrammetry apps, but now I will try WIDAR
Go for it!
People should use this video as a template on how to review anything.
What nice feedback, thank you
Agreed, its nicely done.

Especially lucky to avoid rain since it was the UK ☔️ Nice tips and feedback, thanks for sharing
This was a very well done review and how it should be done to compare products. Thank you for this!
Glad it was helpful!
This is what I have been looking for for hours. Thank you!
Nice!
Thanks for this great video. I didn't know anything about this topic and which app to use, but now I know what app to use.
Awesome 🎉
Great research! Meshroom didn't do it so well for me, so having something simple on the phone is much needed.
Excellent. And some of these let you straighten up the model inside the app so you could just take a screen grab and skip the 3d software part altogether. I’m aiming to put a ‘quick and dirty’ method tutorial together at some point that would slot in to my projection mapping workflow
@@LumaBox side note....is that a Christmas wreath already up on your door?!
@@wbdharris It's a year-round cheery floral wreath 😁
@@LumaBox This would be really great!!!
Great video thanks. I used PhotoCatch on iOS, also free and did a good job of rendering. I can’t remember what output formats were available for the free version.

No problem 🙂

It can be tricky with street lighting. You could do interior mapping (windows?) with a projector that’s not as bright

Great to hear and thanks for sharing that comparison with lidar - very interesting
Good, saved me some time trying out different apps.
Excellent

Sad to hear. Many of these apps have since changed their features. Reviews don't stay current for long 😢
Many thanks, very well-presented and to the point. This deserves many more views.
You're very kind. Thanks for watching
A splendid survey. Thank you.
You're very welcome
Outstanding! Thank you for sharing this
Glad you enjoyed it!
Wow thank u❤ this is awesome, so exactly what I was looking for!
Glad it was helpful!
Thanks!! For doing this research, clear summary! My conclusion is also that WIDAR the best app is.
Good to hear that we arrived at the same conclusion 👍
Excellent work. 👍
Thank you! Cheers!

Someone else has mentioned this too 😢 A shame. But the others are still good options. Thanks for the heads up
Brilliant overview!
Thanks for watching!
Thank you for the summary
My pleasure!
I agree you do a brilliant review!
Thank you 🙏

awesome comparison!

Can you do a review of apps that you use to capture room dimensions and put together as a floorplan?
That's not on my slate for the future but it's a good idea. I hope you find a suitable app for your project
my top pic is 1. HOVER , 2.Kiri , 3. Widar
Ok, thanks for sharing. Why is it your top pick?
Thank you this was very useful
Glad it was helpful!

Thanks for the useful info.

Thank you so much!
Glad it helped!
Thank you
No problemo 😊
What do you use it for once you have it mapped? Is it needed for some of the projection effects you do?
I explain quickly at the beginning of the video. I use it to make my orthographic guide. Basically this video th-cam.com/video/VGPrrRG-2I4/w-d-xo.html
Widar with 3D file export is no longer free but a $9.99 per month subscription feature. What a surprise...
Sad 😢
can I use this and combine this to drone images to create a full scan
I haven't tried that myself but I think it would be certainly worth a test. I don't see why it wouldn't work
Thank you!

I know what you mean 😄 But there's no such thing as a free lunch! Maybe one day something like that will come along.
thank you
Welcome 🙏
I'd be curious to know which of these apps you'd be willing to pay money for, and how well they work for you in more professional settings.
I have to say, I haven't really tested them in a more professional context

Hi, I cant find Widar for Android, where you found it?

This is what i call a TH-cam video.
Cheers! 🎉
Очень полезное видео. Спасибо

Heads up, I just looked into Widar app (android) and the export feature is now something you can only do with a $4.99/month membership! Ugh!
Oh greeeeeeat. Make a video singing its praises and then they change it. Perfect! Thanks for the heads up 😅
