I have already bought sat nav NBT Evo high 2 (ID6), Touch controller, and the Evo Screen. Congratulations Omar very useful video. Do you know if the same procedure apply for the X1 f48 with no nav? do you think is the emulator and cabling for the touch pad neede in this case?
Thanks. I think it should be the same for X1 but not sure. If you already have touch controller then it should have its cabling and module connected already. If you have an old controller then you will need the emulator and cabling for it
I was tired of all that retrofitting and recently I built my own head unit based on Raspberry PI 4 (very powerful single board computer). I used OpenAuto Pro as a head unit software. Much cheaper and much more flexible solution.

What application do you use for coding bro? Can you share those details please. Its weird that my e90 had 12gb idrive with everything in it. But new f31 doesn’t even have sat nav. Even i had it in my 2008 and 2011. Can you share some details on coding please

Omar nice video! This is going to help me when I pick up my F11 in the next few weeks. With the coding side of it, I haven't got much clue, do you need to specially program the unit to your car? I've heard things about the units being having g the cars Vin number in them so it'd only work in that car unless it was programmed?
THEhim329 thanks. There are rwo ways to go, you either flash the unit with your car's VIN which is more complex and expensive. The other way is to use the NBT adapter module which bassically emulates your can VIN. However, in both methods you still Need to code to add the required options to your car's ECU. That is not complex and can be done in few minutes by following the guides in the forums
Omar Alassil ahh that has explained it better than anyone else could have! Now I know what that emulator does in that middle harness! I will just need to find one that is suitable with the F10/11. I may try to get in contact with this Shawn guy to get the software and help on the coding side of things, some of the units have DAB which is a pretty nice edition to the car I'm looking at :-)
I purchased my car 2nd hand last year, i've just had major repair work done and BMW are currently unable to install the CAR software because it doesnt recognise the NBT part. The only option is to revert back to the original (factory spec). I dont have these parts, so i am going to spend ££. Tip: Keep original parts!!
Hey Omar! I hope you can answer this - Well i have the Android 10.25 screen in my F31 and i just use the Android screen and not the original bmw menu. If i chance the Unit my Android menu will still work normaly right? I need a NBT Unit for my F31 because i need acess to MOST cable for 6WB

Hello Omar, this video is perfect! Do you maybe know would this retrofit work with hu_CIC? Does your bluetooth and microphone works? Why do you need additional GPS and adapter for touchdrive? I bought NBT which is already coded for my car VIN, but I do not have required wires; If I got them would this be plug and play? I heard there could be a big problem when retroffiting to NBT with microphone. I think I have combox, what I need to do additionaly if I do? Thanks in advance!

Thanks for your information. I have just installed an NBT to replace my HDU_ENTRY. I have managed to code pretty much everything and its working fine. I still have one issue though. The backup camera is now showing an Estate car(I am assuming that's the donor model-mine is a sedan) and is also a bit erratic. Are there any parameters that I need to code to correct this back up camera issue?. Thanks in advance...
Hi, Did you do the VO coding to NBT and other ECU modules? If I'm not mistaken, I think the donor vehicle for my NBT was estate as well but it's showing as saloon on my car after I did the coding.
thanks for the info. it worked soon after i fitted abd coded my nbt retro. all i needed to do was drive the car so that tfe ecu could "talk" to the new gizmo.
Great video. When you coded the new unit in to your vin was your service history the same as it before you changed it? and do you know if anything extra needs to be done if you have the harman kardon system and dab already? Also how do you know if you have a combox already?
Thanks, Service history disappeared. I can't see an entry to it from the menu any more. I can only see how long left before service, checkup for each item (engine, brakes, etc.) and they're are still as before. I don't know about the harman but I think you'll need to pull the optical connector from the old quadlock harness and put it to the new one at the unit's end. For the combox you can check under the carpet of the boot. Just google "bmw f30 combox" and see how it looks.

Just being heavy handed I cracked the screen I now have a 10.5 android screen that's works great with TH-cam music spotify and Google maps and internet and it came with a reverse camera

I also have a F30 from 2012 so didn’t install the touch controller as I am clueless what connecting CAN HI And LOW to Y cable means. You mention that. But is there perhaps a separate video that describes how to install touch I drive controller?
Veni Vidi Kebab the scroll on the steering wheel doesn’t work unfortunately. The CAN low and CAN high connections you can get them from the harness behind your NBT. Just try to google NBT pinout and you’ll get what pins are they

I've done this and my console USB is not working. I'm bumping my head on this one...and debating whether or not to get an OEM USB lead connector and thread it from the console to the back of the HU directly

Hello Omar thanks for the video i did the same on my f20 with the same nbt unit, screen and idrive touch contrôler everything is fine but not the Bluetooth.In my business gps i didnt have a Bluetooth cable like you (the Green one) but Bluetooth phone only was working.Now nothing work is that normal ? Just need to code it i hope ?
carl valcke not sure.. you might need to be a separate Bluetooth antenna and hide it in the dashboard after connecting to the NBT. Or maybe you need to add the correct option to your vehicle order in coding
Hi Omar. I have a question about NBT connectors. Can I possibly connect two aftermarket NBT connectors from the main to a bimmertech NBT connector and connect it to a Navigation touch controller NBT connector to the module ?
Omar, Hi and excuse me for bringing back this post. Im getting parts to make this NBT retrofit. I have also a BMW f30 HU ENTRY but i still have some question and i would appreciate you can help me please. I bought NBT UNIT and Bigger Screen. 1.- is it esencial to replace the IDRIVE CONTROLLER? i want to use the original that came with my car, hopefully is not a must due i dont have more budget to get another idrive controller and im not interested on touch i drive.2.- My car is Hi Fi sound system, do you know any way to make it sound? i have heard i have to splice some cables in the AMP located in the trunk and other people spliced some cables on the main cable to the NBT unit. 3.- Is there anyway to shave the video cable aswell? i have seen people doing retrofit but not replacing video cable so im kind of confuse.
As to my knowledge, you can still use your existing iDrive controller and no need to buy a new touch one. I don't know about the HI-FI sound. I think you could shave the video cable as well but I haven't tried that.
I have a 2013 328 iX Drive without the enhanced Bluetooth option. It also doesn't have the upgraded nav unit like yours. Did you have to get the same model year, 2012 unit for yours or did you get a newer unit like a 2015?
Just did the exact same retrofit with the exact same parts, but I am wondering if you did not have issues putting the NBT unit back in when the white USB plug was reversed? The metal part of the plug would go "outside" the edge of the unit. Did you just push it in or?
Michael L I tried to clear the space behind and then push it. Problem with usb connector is that it doesn't stay in place after ahaving it so you need to be careful while inserting the unit or alternatively you can shave the pins of the connector in the arm rest console and rotate them. In this case you can keep the one behind the unit as is
Omar Alassil hi Omar, can you please clarify. If I shaved the usb connector in the arm rest then the other end connecting to HU is still not going to fit is it?

zvezdan1000 no it must be coding issue. You need to add the options to your car (609, etc) and then VO code the relevant modules (see my description in the forum link). If you’re sure you did the coding properly then it’s worth investigating if the nav activation module you have is working (the little black plastic module)

Hi, i"m looking to do this retrofit myself. i also have a 2012 f30 with hu_entry CIC. what hardware does need to be modified to do this retrofit? does the plugs for the mixrophone for example plug in right away? i don't have the combox in the rear so that makes it a little bit simpler. do i need to buy the harness? i found someone who can generate fsc codes so emulator is not needed. how is the radio reception for example? thanks in advance for your answers!
update, NBT unit installed and fully coded to work without an emulator. FSC activated. mine was plug and play, my HU_Entry had 2 FM antennas which plugged in directly. Quadlock had no wire on PIN 13. FM reception is perfect. I mounted the GPS receiver on the strut bar left of the head unit right next to the instrument cluster. Perfect reception also. Everything is working perfectly. Very happy. night and day difference with CHAMP2.
Could you please confirm, if it is possible to use full BMW connected services after retrofit,such as lock,unlock etc. As I have got installed NBT in my F30 is it possible to activate traffic flow?
connected services depend on the options ordering of the donor vehicle I think. I have live traffic update on mine but it needs to use bluetooth tethering with my phone to connect.
Hi, I’m doing the same retrofit but I’m stuck. I’ve done everything you did except for the harness part plus I have a combox. I want to purchase the harness, but I’d like to make sure I don’t need to do anything else with the combox. I don’t have any sound in my car except for the radio. My Bluetooth and Aux jack are not working so I’d really like to sort this out. Thank you 🙏🏾
I have just done the same retrofit and have the same issue where my Bluetooth is not allowing my phone to connect as well as music from a USB I also have a combox.
Which emulator power connector did you get? When i look at ebay all of them are nbt evo navigation adapter. Would that work? Or would I specifically have to find one that says nbt (not evo)?
Hi, I bought all of this staff except the module for touch controller I saw that we can make it work by just pulling two cables and putting directly from the nbt module Fo u know exactly how to know it because I didn't understand there method it wasnt as detailed as ur video.
Marouane Meftah the unit might work in this case but without touch function. The touch controller module is to enable touch functionality for the iDrive unit
So I installed everything, all functions are working in exception of scrolling function I have the biggest Idrive touch controller as the one installed in the video. the touches are working but the wheel isn't scrolling.

Hi Omar, just carried out the same retrofit out on my car however I am having trouble getting the GPS to locate my position. what coding did you have to do to correct it?
I think that you have to use a new fakra Bluetooth antenna from eBay or route a cable from the Combox to the head unit. You also need a USB cable from HU to arm rest console and maybe a mic cable. Check this post: f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/showthread.php?t=921688
I have the evo unit in my f30, trying to find a way to replace the korean map in my system to put the middle eastern map. I tried direct usb update but it didn't work. Do i have to change the entire unit? or there is a region change coding?
@@OmarAssil I bought the middle east maps, but the unit doesnt identify the map files because its originally South korean unit. not sure how can i convert it to ME/Arabian gulf unit
Ahmed did you buy the correct version of the maps? Each unit has a different version (for example nbt units take Next maps but evo units might need different map version). Check your existing map version and compare. Also the usb should be formatted in a specific way fat32
Omar Alassil both maps are EVO, I did the usb formatting and tried to update my idrive but it didn’t work, the idrive doesnt identifty the files and doesnt ask for fsc code. From what i understood there is a process to (code) region change. Unfortunately I’m not seeing enough information about it ..

So when you select sport mode the correct image is displayed on the new display? so the only thing you had to code on this the nav? everything else was already present? I've heard of stories where the Bluetooth doesn't work properly and needs coding, but that might be when coming from combox

I Omar, I saw on the BMW forums some poeple who have been able to upgrade from their 6.5" screen to the 8.8" with just the screen itself and a bit of coding, no need for the NBT UNIT. Do you know if this is only on certain models? I have a 2012 F30 with a 6.5" but my screen doesn't have any plastic around the edges. It looks exactly the same as your 8.8" only smaller I would really like to do the mod but have no idea if it will work or not, I keep finding people saying different things. Many thanks!
Apparently you only have to code these to entry's to read; HU_NBT > 3000 HMI > DISPLAY_SIZE_RESOLUTION = 8.8_1280x480 HU_NBT > 3001 EXBOX > DISPLAY_VARIANTE = breites_display Any ideas??
sniktun1 I think you're able to upgrade just the screen without NBT but obviously that will not change any functionality. You will just have a bigger nicer screen
You can only update screen if you have the NBT Entry unit. If you have the older MS_CHaMP2 system you can not just change the screen because there is no option to code it to 8.8inch. If you have a CD player in your car instead of DVD you can be 100% sure you have MS_Champ2.

The CIC CAN bus signal is CAN1 and the NBT CAN bus signal is CAN2, right? Is it not necessary to convert to 4SK/8SK CAN2 compatible ZGW?

Have you upgraded your sat nav system from CIC I-Drive Professional or the same basic Unit like Omar Alassil did? I want to upgrade my sat nav from CIC I-drive professional sat nav (fitted onto my 2012 BMW F30) to NBT EVO High 2 (ID6) but I am struggling to find information about what hardware (cable ware and modules) are needed? I have already bought sta nav NBT Evo high 2 (ID6), Touch controller, and the Evo Screen. If you have got proper information what kind of cable ware and modules are necessary and list them here; It would be very helpful and very nice of you?

Thanks for your information. I have just installed an NBT to replace my HDU_ENTRY. I have managed to code pretty much everything and its working fine. I still have one issue though. The backup camera is now showing an Estate car(I am assuming that's the donor model-mine is a sedan) and is also a bit erratic. Are there any parameters that I need to code to correct this back up camera issue?. Thanks in advance...
Hi, Did you do the VO coding to NBT and other ECU modules? If I'm not mistaken, I think the donor vehicle for my NBT was estate as well but it's showing as saloon on my car after I did the coding.
thanks for the info. it worked soon after i fitted abd coded my nbt retro. all i needed to do was drive the car so that tfe ecu could "talk" to the new gizmo.

I remember I read on one of the forums that there is a way by changing the VIN on the VO file with a VIN of a car that has BMW Live.

Great video. When you coded the new unit in to your vin was your service history the same as it before you changed it? and do you know if anything extra needs to be done if you have the harman kardon system and dab already? Also how do you know if you have a combox already?
Thanks, Service history disappeared. I can't see an entry to it from the menu any more. I can only see how long left before service, checkup for each item (engine, brakes, etc.) and they're are still as before. I don't know about the harman but I think you'll need to pull the optical connector from the old quadlock harness and put it to the new one at the unit's end. For the combox you can check under the carpet of the boot. Just google "bmw f30 combox" and see how it looks.

Sai Pan Chan Hi, I suggest you do some research in Bimmerfest and Bimmerpost forums. There is a person there called Shaun who offers some help. It seems difficult but take it ste by step and you should be fine

Just being heavy handed I cracked the screen I now have a 10.5 android screen that's works great with TH-cam music spotify and Google maps and internet and it came with a reverse camera

I also have a F30 from 2012 so didn’t install the touch controller as I am clueless what connecting CAN HI And LOW to Y cable means. You mention that. But is there perhaps a separate video that describes how to install touch I drive controller?
Veni Vidi Kebab the scroll on the steering wheel doesn’t work unfortunately. The CAN low and CAN high connections you can get them from the harness behind your NBT. Just try to google NBT pinout and you’ll get what pins are they
awesome video! thank you! I've just installed an HU_NBT to HU_NBTEVO (ID4 no nav to ID6 w/ nav). Are there any additional notes on the USB cable (shaved/ rotated)? I've done this and my console USB is not working. I'm bumping my head on this one...and debating whether or not to get an OEM USB lead connector and thread it from the console to the back of the HU directly
only thing I remember is that the pins are the other way around and hence you need to shave the head of the port to be able to insert it in reverse

Hello Omar thanks for the video i did the same on my f20 with the same nbt unit, screen and idrive touch contrôler everything is fine but not the Bluetooth.In my business gps i didnt have a Bluetooth cable like you (the Green one) but Bluetooth phone only was working.Now nothing work is that normal ? Just need to code it i hope ?
carl valcke not sure.. you might need to be a separate Bluetooth antenna and hide it in the dashboard after connecting to the NBT. Or maybe you need to add the correct option to your vehicle order in coding

Hi Omar. I have a question about NBT connectors. Can I possibly connect two aftermarket NBT connectors from the main to a bimmertech NBT connector and connect it to a Navigation touch controller NBT connector to the module ?

Shammy Ali I believe in this case you still need to fit a new NBT unit. I suggest to investigate fitting the EVO unit as it’s the newest generation

Omar, Hi and excuse me for bringing back this post. Im getting parts to make this NBT retrofit. I have also a BMW f30 HU ENTRY but i still have some question and i would appreciate you can help me please. I bought NBT UNIT and Bigger Screen.
1.- is it esencial to replace the IDRIVE CONTROLLER? i want to use the original that came with my car, hopefully is not a must due i dont have more budget to get another idrive controller and im not interested on touch i drive.2.- My car is Hi Fi sound system, do you know any way to make it sound? i have heard i have to splice some cables in the AMP located in the trunk and other people spliced some cables on the main cable to the NBT unit. 3.- Is there anyway to shave the video cable aswell? i have seen people doing retrofit but not replacing video cable so im kind of confuse.
As to my knowledge, you can still use your existing iDrive controller and no need to buy a new touch one. I don't know about the HI-FI sound. I think you could shave the video cable as well but I haven't tried that.

I have a 2013 328 iX Drive without the enhanced Bluetooth option. It also doesn't have the upgraded nav unit like yours.
Did you have to get the same model year, 2012 unit for yours or did you get a newer unit like a 2015?
Yes I have the same model 2012 F30 320.. you should be able to buy the upgrade kit separately just look for F30
Just did the exact same retrofit with the exact same parts, but I am wondering if you did not have issues putting the NBT unit back in when the white USB plug was reversed? The metal part of the plug would go "outside" the edge of the unit. Did you just push it in or?
Michael L I tried to clear the space behind and then push it. Problem with usb connector is that it doesn't stay in place after ahaving it so you need to be careful while inserting the unit or alternatively you can shave the pins of the connector in the arm rest console and rotate them. In this case you can keep the one behind the unit as is

zvezdan1000 no it must be coding issue. You need to add the options to your car (609, etc) and then VO code the relevant modules (see my description in the forum link). If you’re sure you did the coding properly then it’s worth investigating if the nav activation module you have is working (the little black plastic module)

Hi, i"m looking to do this retrofit myself. i also have a 2012 f30 with hu_entry CIC. what hardware does need to be modified to do this retrofit? does the plugs for the mixrophone for example plug in right away? i don't have the combox in the rear so that makes it a little bit simpler. do i need to buy the harness? i found someone who can generate fsc codes so emulator is not needed. how is the radio reception for example? thanks in advance for your answers!
update, NBT unit installed and fully coded to work without an emulator. FSC activated. mine was plug and play, my HU_Entry had 2 FM antennas which plugged in directly. Quadlock had no wire on PIN 13. FM reception is perfect. I mounted the GPS receiver on the strut bar left of the head unit right next to the instrument cluster. Perfect reception also. Everything is working perfectly. Very happy. night and day difference with CHAMP2.
Could you please confirm, if it is possible to use full BMW connected services after retrofit,such as lock,unlock etc. As I have got installed NBT in my F30 is it possible to activate traffic flow?
connected services depend on the options ordering of the donor vehicle I think. I have live traffic update on mine but it needs to use bluetooth tethering with my phone to connect.

I want to purchase the harness, but I’d like to make sure I don’t need to do anything else with the combox. I don’t have any sound in my car except for the radio. I have just done the same retrofit and have the same issue where my Bluetooth is not allowing my phone to connect as well as music from a USB I also have a combox.
I think it has to do with the combox. Mine didn't have a combox and I installed a bluetooth antenna as shown in the video

Which emulator power connector did you get? When i look at ebay all of them are nbt evo navigation adapter. Would that work? Or would I specifically have to find one that says nbt (not evo)?

I bought all of this staff except the module for touch controller I saw that we can make it work by just pulling two cables and putting directly from the nbt module Fo u know exactly how to know it because I didn't understand there method it wasnt as detailed as ur video.
Marouane Meftah the unit might work in this case but without touch function. The touch controller module is to enable touch functionality for the iDrive unit
So I installed everything, all functions are working in exception of scrolling function I have the biggest Idrive touch controller as the one installed in the video. the touches are working but the wheel isn't scrolling.
I haven't come across such problem before. Are you sure the iDrive unit is ok?

Nabil Choudhary yea this means it was not coded properly. You need to VO code your NBT unit after adding 609 and other codes to your vehicle order

How do the steps change if you have enhanced BT with com box in the trunk?
I think that you have to use a new fakra Bluetooth antenna from eBay or route a cable from the Combox to the head unit. You also need a USB cable from HU to arm rest console and maybe a mic cable. Check this post: f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/showthread.php?t=921688

I have the evo unit in my f30, trying to find a way to replace the korean map in my system to put the middle eastern map. I tried direct usb update but it didn't work. Do i have to change the entire unit? or there is a region change coding?
Ahmed you will need the map update via usb and you need the fsc code for that. Make sure you’re using the correct map version for your unit

Ahmed did you buy the correct version of the maps? Each unit has a different version (for example nbt units take Next maps but evo units might need different map version). Check your existing map version and compare. Also the usb should be formatted in a specific way fat32
Omar Alassil both maps are EVO, I did the usb formatting and tried to update my idrive but it didn’t work, the idrive doesnt identifty the files and doesnt ask for fsc code. From what i understood there is a process to (code) region change. Unfortunately I’m not seeing enough information about it ..

Check if you have a CIC or NBT HU. CIC does not support touch controllers.
How did you remove the old wiring harness? Did you just leave it there?

So when you select sport mode the correct image is displayed on the new display? so the only thing you had to code on this the nav? everything else was already present? I've heard of stories where the Bluetooth doesn't work properly and needs coding, but that might be when coming from combox
yes correct image appears. I coded nav and the enhanced Bluetooth to get the full features of it

I Omar, I saw on the BMW forums some poeple who have been able to upgrade from their 6.5" screen to the 8.8" with just the screen itself and a bit of coding, no need for the NBT UNIT. Do you know if this is only on certain models?
I have a 2012 F30 with a 6.5" but my screen doesn't have any plastic around the edges. It looks exactly the same as your 8.8" only smaller

Apparently you only have to code these to entry's to read;
HU_NBT > 3000 HMI > DISPLAY_SIZE_RESOLUTION = 8.8_1280x480
HU_NBT > 3001 EXBOX > DISPLAY_VARIANTE = breites_display

sniktun1 I think you're able to upgrade just the screen without NBT but obviously that will not change any functionality. You will just have a bigger nicer screen
You can only update screen if you have the NBT Entry unit. If you have the older MS_CHaMP2 system you can not just change the screen because there is no option to code it to 8.8inch.
If you have a CD player in your car instead of DVD you can be 100% sure you have MS_Champ2.
