I very much like the idea of Spotify works natively on the iDrive screen. Currently my F10 having inconsistent Bluetooth connection with my Android phone. I wonder if the ConnectedDrive app will runs well with Android phone.
I had intermittent issues with Bluetooth too. BMW updated my cars software under warranty and I never had another issue. Also try deleting and repairing on both the phone and the car.
i have to disappoint you but BMW decided that Iphone is cool and Android users are some kind of plebs that cannot buy a bmw so the development for the Android platform is absolutely trash nothing works it barely connects sometimes and there is no answer from BMW on the app development for over 9 months.

Looks all nice but you have to ask yourself if this will be used at all in a car apart from music apps. Most of the stuff feels like collecting features these days but never being used. 99% of the time I’m driving my car and not playing with the infotainment system.

I'm trying to retrofit the radio, small screen and idrive of my 2012 bmw 328i to the radio/DVD with gps, big screen and idrive of a 2015 BMW 328i. I used Esys 3.30 and PSDZ FULL 4.26. I managed to make the radio and the panel communicate, now the date, the time, and the onboard computer work on the radio and on the paibel. The only thing that still doesn't enable/work is the GPS. Can I ask you to help me? I must be failing to do some procedure in Esys and I can't find a tutorial on the web. I look forward to an answer and I thank you very much for your attention. Thanks.
Sorry to resurrect an old topic. I activated BMW Apps through BMW. However, when I plug in my Pixel (Pixel 3) I don't see many apps (any apps?) in the "additional apps" section. Does it simply not work w/ Android or am I missing something else?
I've got some of those apps already fitted to my Z4 E89 and actually I never use them as all of them are already on my phone and are much easier to use via the phone manually of via Siri..The bimmertec service is really quite expensive and a much better way to get a better "connected" music & 'office' system, is to install a Amazon Echo Dot in your car together with a mobile data dongle. Voice control is much easier & safer than iDrive control. For the BMW specific 'tweeks' Carly is far more flexible and of course user controlled - albeit still quite pricey but still much cheaper than Bimmertec and give you the option to 'tinker' or adjust settings as many times as you like.

It’s a bit of a grey area really. Coding isn’t traceable as long as it’s set back to exactly as it was before you take the car in. Technically it would void any warranty related to the system you’ve modified. So for example if you code your iDrive system and you have a piston go through the block, it’s unlikely they wouldn’t cover it. But if the iDrive failed you’re screwed. Hope that makes sense.

Yes this is a permanent activation. The difference is a genuine CD activation is only available on vehicles with inbuilt cellular connectivity. This uses your phones connetion.

I take it you have a fairly new model? BMW doesn't release firmware updates often enough (probably no more than 2-3 years after model year release), and when they do, it's usually for minor bugs. I think you may be alright to do without an update or two unless they're to address a massive oversight (like, a fix incurred by a class action lawsuit).
I've got a BMW x3, and I've got a raspberry pi on the odb2 and it does a lot more than this. And, I have Google assistant. All because I hate the BMW (and any other vehicles system).

Thanks. Yes there are things you can do with this method that Carly can’t do currently. Basically anything that involves FSC activation can’t be done via Carly at present. But Carly is great for the basic coding stuff. I’ve used it myself for tweaking a few things.

Ah ok, now I understand what the problem is. There is a separate weather app in the connected drive menu. I can't display messages as my 116d lacks Wireless Charging and the Extended Smartphone Connectivity. I just have the navi pro without the business plus package. BMW loves to charge for every piece of plastic lots of money, the connected drive services are cool, but should be a standard in cars with navigation imo. Google does 90% of that for free anyway...

Older models like mine don’t not have built in 4G so they rely on the phone for connectivity. Newer models with 4G it would require 3rd party apps to be able to run natively. Impossible since it’s not running Android or iOS. Apps would have to be developed specifically for the iDrive platform.

all of this coding is great but what I would realy like to do is write my own apps for this car (what os does it run, what language are apps written in) for instance the tuner in 2012 BMW (F10) is realy good and I would like to be able for the tuner to show me more data like PI Code, AF Frequency List, if it is recieving in Stereo, etc (I would like to manualy enter the desired frequency and so on or turn off AF because I don't want my car switching stations I know the frequency so I can enter it on my own) or write my own radio client for it, etc is this possible because when I hear coding your car I always see people using this cable (which BTW: I don't know where you can buy one) and they always eather activate or deactivate a certain feature nobody writes their own apps
It’s all Unix based I’m sure, but I’m not sure how one goes about writing their own BMW apps. I haven’t looked in to it. I think it’s more common to write android apps and use screen mirroring.

What's the point of the CMD prompt PINGING Google over-and-over again? Is it just to look "Technical" for the video?
It’s to make sure the connection is active before issuing any commands and so they can monitor for any dropouts I believe.

better upgrade to an Android screen. There is no way to code the GPS Navigation to the low Budget iDrive system.

This is a seperate function but yes you can do that as well as I have done.

Right now the best option is an Idrive 6 retrofit. But it ain’t cheap.

Depends what screen you have. Most of the retrofit kits include a screen but you may not need it.

for instance the tuner in 2012 BMW (F10) is realy good and I would like to be able for the tuner to show me more data like PI Code, AF Frequency List, if it is recieving in Stereo, etc (I would like to manualy enter the desired frequency and so on or turn off AF because I don't want my car switching stations I know the frequency so I can enter it on my own)
or write my own radio client for it, etc
is this possible
because when I hear coding your car I always see people using this cable (which BTW: I don't know where you can buy one) and they always eather activate or deactivate a certain feature
nobody writes their own apps
It’s all Unix based I’m sure, but I’m not sure how one goes about writing their own BMW apps. I haven’t looked in to it. I think it’s more common to write android apps and use screen mirroring.
do you recomend any places where one could find an anwser to this question maybe some forum where people with BMWs that know something about "hacking" them could share their knowledge

Last I checked you couldn’t do this with Carly as it still required genuine activation.
If you can do it with Carly now that’s pretty cool!
