Her videos are so informative and I like how she not only shows you the straight line, but then goes over how to use it in practice - without speeding up the video. I also learned the value of the starting stitch and how the “no knotting” method works. And, I appreciate that she doesn’t edit out her mistakes and instead shows us how she corrects them. Her Palestrina stitches are so beautifully done!
Such an enjoyable relaxing video. I appreciate that you first show how to do the stitch in a straight line and then apply it to a letter. Beautiful work.
I am left handed and never learned to crochet or knit. I have ten children and now 15 grandchildren. I have five daughters and four of them are expert crocheters. Not me... the truth is I have always been to busy to sit. However, I love to sew, so now that all are grown up except one high schooler I decided to make a quilt for my eldest granddaughter of 7 who is 10yo. I was about to sew the batting and back on when the idea (I think from the Lord) came to embroider her name on it. I argued with Jesus that I cannot do it. My five daughter's encouragement did not help me . After watching your video, I am so excited to get started. Clear instructions and visually helpful. I am 59 and finally feel like I can do this. Thank you so much!... I have a lot of quilts to make, and names to embroider, lol.
Wow! Thank you so much for sharing your gift in such a beginner friendly demonstration! You are a born teacher and a gifted artist! I wish I had the knowledge to support your channel financially. I will have to visit your shop. 😊 Thank you!! 💕
This is a wonderful video! I haven't embroidered for 50 years or more and had forgotten even basic stitches. Thank you for showing, in detail, how to do the stitch and then how to use it. I would like to see the back of your finished work, as well. (I suspect that your back is as neat and precise as your front!)
I did a video all about the back of your work recently Mary, so do check that out! We have lots of videos on all the basics as well, including how to start and finish threads, how to use a hoop, backing fabric...all sorts!
When I was a kid growing up in the fifties I was sent every Saturday afternoon to the house of an elderly lady to learn embroidery. Whenever I fly anywhere now, I get one of those little embroidery kits to keep my fingers and mind busy during the flight - for some reason, I’ve realised that a needle is one thing security doesn’t mind you taking on board! Now I can practice some letters as well :-)) Thanks for posting!
Very inspiring. Best stitching tutorial I've ever seen. I love how you show the stitch technique first and then go on to show how to use it. Thank you.
Thank you for the refresher course. I am 55 and I used to embroider with my great-grandmother as a child. I loved it, and I loved the time with her. I am a grandmother now and want to embroider my granddaughters name on everything. When she is older I hope to teach her. I will have to practice till then. I am starting off with pillow cases with their names for Christmas. I have never seen that last stitch before it's very pretty. Thank you.
I used to do embroidery as a small child, tray clothes, chair backs, hankies etc. but I'm thinking of taking it up again as an lady in my late 60'sso your videos are really awesome for me to 'relearn' this lovely stitchwork.
Thank you for explanation and video of cable chain stitch. This is the most understandable explanation I have read/watched. I have been trying to learn this for months.
Really fun to watch, will try that gorgeous Palestrina stitch - thank you! This is the first of your videos I've seen, currently doing a lot of knitting, I'll have to take a break and try some embroidery!
Fantastic tutorial! I wanted to embroider my little granddaughter's name (its quite long LOL!) on a quilted pump bag for her first day at school this September. I loved the palestrina stitch as soon as I saw it and started straight away. I found it very easy following your detailed instructions. It's looking beautiful in the variegated thread as you suggest. I'm sure my daughter and her little girl will love it. Thank you so much for taking the time to make this video. Your teaching style is very relaxed but also precise.
Thank you so much Sarah! You made it very easy to understand and I could see everything you were doing! I hope to make my letters as beautiful as you have!
Thank you for all your wonderful tutorial videos Sarah. The Palestrina stitch has always intimidated me. I watched this video again, took a deep breath and worked a few samples (as you recommend in another video) and I manged to master the stitch - well, sewed it well enough to add to the embroidery I'm working on at the moment anyway. I was so pleased with myself that I bragged to my husband, who knows what's good for himself, and he complimented my neat stitches. 😀
It's the little details that so improve our stitching! I learned three things: the two little stitches after the waste knot, deciding the direction of the loop based on the curve of the letter, and the leaving a little space when stitching where the letter crosses. None of my methods left me satisfied with the result. I will put all three of your methods into place.
Thank you for showing the stitches and then how to do a letter. I just wanted to add a name to a bag and had no idea how to embroider, but your video makes me not afraid and confident I can do this.
This is so fun! I left embroidery behind many, many years ago, but have been following The Ugly Stitch Club & now you're teaching me how to add interest to my projects! God bless you & your generosity!
I didn't know about starting with the knot on the front and then working toward your starting point. What a nice finishing technique! No knot at the back of your work.
Re-watching as want to start my Aunt Martha Sunbonnet Days iron-on transfers. Been busy learning to machine sew so now fancy starting my embroidery projects. Looking forward to starting it. Lesley x
I've just found your channel!. I ADORE iT. I self taught myself to embroidery in the late 60s early 70s. I throughly enjoy watching you do the stitches "correctly". So to say. Your tips, stitches, and the way your voice is so soothing, makes your channel a joy to watch. Thank you very much for your channel! Great work!
Wish I could add pictures because I have been avoiding embroidering lettering since I started last year but just watched your video and gave it a go! Really happy with the results :) Thanks so much! x
omg!!! i cant believe it i tried embroidery for the first time ever for my dad's birthday and your video was the best choice you really make awesome videos thank you you are the best!!!!!!!!!!!!
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS VIDEO! I am expecting my shipment of embroidery supplies to come in this weekend. I have never done anything with embroidery and can't wait to get started. I just found your channel and subbed. I'm looking forward to learning more from your excellent instructions. Peace and blessings.
Very nicely done. Would love to see more advanced embroidery stitches and techniques. So many people upload the same basics. It was good to learn the Palestrina stitch
We've had alot of embroidery beginners recently so we are trying to give something for everyone! We have some more complicated stitches coming for those that need a bit of a challenge!
Beautiful! Once again, great detailed tutorial. I appreciated the little nuggets of tips and tricks to this skill, as I am new to Embroidering. Thank you!
Oh my Sarah your teaching technique is flawless and so easy to follow. I would like to embroider two letters onto a heart that is made of fleece. If I put a square piece of fleece onto an embroidery hoop would I need stabilizer onto the back of the fleece. Thank you for sharing your talent!😊
What amazing stitches! The lettering on my cat’s shirt fell apart after I put it in the wash. I decided to go with couching for part of the design. Before this, I only did cross stitch and samples. Thank you for helping with this project and I enjoy it so much that I want to do more in the future. I really appreciate it that gals like you take the time to share their talents on TH-cam.
Thank you❤ I just found you. I just started embroidery. I've watched many of your videos over the last week and you make absolutely fantastic videos. 🤍 from New York
Thank you, Sarah, that was nicely detailed and easy to follow. I'm just beginning, and I'm glad to have found you early on - I feel like I've gotten a running start! One comment on the overall video, which was excellent overall...I notice that in many, many tutorials, across all kinds of craft, the artist never shows the entire final product. I wish you had showed us the full array of embroidered letters at the end of the demo, to get an idea of how each style contrasts with each other, as in a sampler. I was looking forward, after following through all the intricate work, to seeing a final product - closure, if you will! And a useful tool for selecting and designing.
¡Gracias!
Thank you for your kind donation to support this video Carol!
It’s 1:43 am why is this so satisfying
Ha ha!!! I hope I'm not keeping you up Ismael!
I don't know but I am relaxed now!
Ismael, I’m a night owl too. There are several nights a week I see 1:43 AM as well. Enjoy your stitching
Because you're seeing it come alive! (It's also 1:43 am when I posted this.)
Its 2 : 26 and its still satisfying
You are the Bob Ross of embroidery. So soothing & calm to watch. Love your vids!
I'll take that! 😁👍
❤️❤️❤️ 🖌️ 🎨

I was actually wondering if I would be able to take this on a flight! Thank you for your insight :)
Very inspiring. Best stitching tutorial I've ever seen. I love how you show the stitch technique first and then go on to show how to use it. Thank you.
Thank you for the video, needed the refresher since I haven't done decorative stitching since I was a kid when my grandma taught me.

He's well trained Rosemary!! It is a beautiful stitch, well done for sticking with it x
It's an old saying, but one worth keeping: "Happy wife, happy life."
Assuming it comes from conversation and mutual compromise, of course.
Amen lol lol
Thank you very much for your help and sharing Embroidery ideas. Happy Easter!

Nice clear instructions and I really appreciate the split view
Oh my Sarah your teaching technique is flawless and so easy to follow. I would like to embroider two letters onto a heart that is made of fleece. If I put a square piece of fleece onto an embroidery hoop would I need stabilizer onto the back of the fleece. Thank you for sharing your talent!😊
It's probably okay without Marley, can you try a little sample first to test it out?
What amazing stitches! The lettering on my cat’s shirt fell apart after I put it in the wash. I decided to go with couching for part of the design. Before this, I only did cross stitch and samples. Thank you for helping with this project and I enjoy it so much that I want to do more in the future. I really appreciate it that gals like you take the time to share their talents on TH-cam.
Make sure the thread ends are extra secure if you are going to wash it Hazel and that you put your stitches nice and close together
@@SarahHomfrayEmbroidery good idea. I might need to hand wash it.
I wish there was a shot at the end showing all the stitches so I could compare them. Love your videos. I have learned so much. Thank you
I'll put a picture of the whole thing up on my community page Lani so you can see them altogether
Great. Thanks now I believe I can attempt lettering.
Lovely! I want to embroider letters on everything now...😉 Thank you for sharing...🤗

Thank you for the great instructions
Thank you, Sarah, that was nicely detailed and easy to follow. I'm just beginning, and I'm glad to have found you early on - I feel like I've gotten a running start!

We will take your point into account; if you follow me on social media there is often pictures of the stitching on there!
