Thank you. Have embroidered since I was 13 (am now going on 76). My stitching is quite good, but my French knots were not even. Now I know what I do wrong. I might use one, two or three threads but I automatically wrap two or sometimes three times! No wonder my knots are not even. Watching you, I thought I will imitate you & found I constantly wanted to wrap too many times. Thank you again, wish I had a teacher like you 60 years ago, as I am self taught NO ONE did embroidery when I did it. THANK YOU AGAIN.
I’m repeating what everyone else has said, but I must! You’re a wonderfully patient and knowledgeable teacher. You explain all the stitches in such detail for every step. Thank you so much Sarah!!!! I’ve learned so very much from you ❤❤❤
I love your cat. I have one exactly like him. And I live for your facial expressions and kind demeanor while teaching. I’ve learned so much about stitching. Never underestimate the impact that you and Ginger Cat have on our lives.
Thankyou for this. I love colonial knots over french knots , I don't know why, they are just a bit more substantial of a knot and when I do french knots a so often pull them thru or if I wrap more than once they try to pop up like a pastry but I never have trouble with a colonial. I am going to try your method of how to hold the needle and maybe I'll fall in love with the beloved french knots!
This video has given me an idea for my sister's Christmas gift. An Egyptian design worked in a combination of silk and goldwork. The colours will pop. Silky smooth stitches using the mellor, I love mine.
Im a beginner in embroidery and your advice is soooooo helpful, especially for the french knot. I usually used thinner 2 strand thread and wrap more than twice. I've been struggling to pull the thread through and end up ripping the fabric in the end. Now I know what I did wrong.
I love French knots! The only reason french knots are hard for me I’m doing freehand with a hoop. Looks like fun, the stitches..I’ll do them today! Watching first though ☝🏽😳 thank you Sarah, for all your wonderful tutorials❣️🙏🏽🙋🏻♀️👍🏽Mia
I kept forgetting to look into sewing beads on projects - you’ve sent me happily down a new rabbit hole! Thanks for the great help as always. I used bullion stitch to make a caterpillar - I admit I was quite impressed with myself 🤓
I started my Sunday afternoon looking for how to embroider letters to enable me to hand embroider my grand daughters name on a patchwork quilt I'm making for her out of her baby grows, I'm so glad I found your channel, I've spent that last few hours watching your videos, you are such a good teacher, now once I get my embroidery threads I feel confident enough to use some these stitches on the quilt, thank you so much for sharing, I have subscribed and look forward to seeing more of your tutorials.
I am new to your channel and have watched several of your tutorials now and am so happy to have them. I embroidered when I was younger but haven't done much but counted cross stitch for years. This is a great refresher and will really help to remind me how to do stitches and has introduced me to stitches I didn't know. Thank you!
Fabulous! I love all of these stitches. I found that using a milliner’s needle helps with the bullion and French knots, to pull the needle through the wraps 🌻
It would Karen! On a tiny canvas with a fine thread and a beautiful pattern...it would look stunning! I don't do any miniatures but it makes me want to have a go!
So glad I stumbled on this set of videos, embroidery is my first love but after years and years it had lost its magic. But this has inspired me all over. I am talking ribbon embroidery and tidying up my traditional stitches which have become a little sloppy after 70 years. Thank you so much!
Glad you found us Lloydina and that you have been inspired to carry on with your stitching! We have a series on ribbon embroidery so do check those out in the playlists!
Good afternoon I have been teaching myself to stitch. Your clear instructions are so wonderful! Very grateful to have found you. I am watching a lot of them today. I’m a new subbie thank you so much ❤️🌹
Wonderful informative videos on everything I need to know to embroider! Presentations are clear and engaging. You have a wonderful style of speaking and sharing what you know, and to excite one to "give it a try," whether a stitch or a bead!
Hi, Sarah. Have been enjoying your videos for some months now. Thank you for your excellent teaching techniques, my question is can needles be sharpened or when dull just toss and buy new ones?.
Hello Sarah - I've just come across your channel. I am absolutely new to this kind of embroidery. I'm a needlepointer. Your work is lovely! I've loved the book series that you did. Absolutely beautiful! I have two questions. What kind of frame are you using and where can it be purchased; and what kind of canvas are you using and where would I purchased that? Thank you for sharing your amazing talent. I'm from "across the pond" so your accent is delightful! Thank you!
Check out our online shop Barbara for frames and fabric and lots of other embroidery goodies! www.sarahhomfray.com/myshop/ Find the frame here: www.sarahhomfray.com/myshop/prod_4538062-Versatile-table-clamp.html We shipworld wide, currently tracked and signed to Internatioal destinations until the world has fully righted itself. About 7-10 days for orders across the pond! :)
I think you could go right to left on the Turkish rug stitch, but you'd have to reverse the process and start on the right and come up on the left for each row. Or maybe that would be the opposite of a Turkish rug stitch.
It's this here Rachel: www.sarahhomfray.com/myshop/prod_4538062-Versatile-table-clamp.html We have a video on how it works to, just search for Versatile Table Clamp
Yes there is Rena, we have a few videos on this subject. If you click on my name that will take you to my channel where you can browse the videos or click on the Playlist button to see categories where you can find videos more easily
Is there a more detailed video about threading, I know how to thread the needle but do you always double the thread and tie a knot at the bottom. When you say you are using 6 strands, is that doubled or single?
Sarah, I noticed you struggling to pull your needle through the bullion knots: I bought these from Amazon: www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B07L3SDD5N/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 They're brilliant! Really grippy, and if they lose their grip a quick rinse under the tap and they're back to full strength again. They're quite big, and can easily be cut into strips to use with needles. So useful in all sorts of ways, but I did buy them for sewing with.
How many strands of thread would you suggest for making quilt blocks with embroidery embellishments? I do find 6 a bit too thick but maybe it would be sturdiest??
It's a mellor Karen which is is laying tool. You can see it here: www.sarahhomfray.com/myshop/prod_6900645-Mellor-laying-tool-polished-stainless-steel.html A mellor is normally used in goldwork embroidery but as you can see it's useful for lots of occaisions!
Thanks!
Thank you for your support Ruth! x
