    Daily drive my Evora...mostly interstate miles plus the longer trips to get to the mountains between eastern Tennessee and western North Carolina as this region is replete with beautiful stretches of twisty mountain tarmac . I get about 90 - 95 % smiles per mile as in my Elise but I get virtually 100% greater practicality, livability in the Evora. Great cars

      @goldenlight Extremely comfy for me, even on long trips, unlike my Elise. Now, depending upon the model/year the interior will not be as refined/ergonomic as the M5 but from the Evora 400’s to present, not too bad. The earlier S and NA models had crappy interiors comparatively speaking . This notwithstanding, I drove my 2011 S model from BOE fabrication in Kansas to Columbia SC and thoroughly enjoyed it. Very comfy with zero complaints save for the fact I have no cruise control !

    The Elise/Exige was a good comparison with the Corvette in price and performance, just different approaches.

      0-60 3.8 I mean fairly decent. There are other cars far cheaper that can do those times tho. Gotta love a beautiful lotus tho I just hate that people talk bad about it because it has a toyota/lexus motor in it. That v6 has so much potential to grow too. Get rid of the 3rd cat there goes u around 10-15 more hp, then toss out the restrictive air box that we get in america and use a proper one that frees it up a bit that's gonna open up about another 10hp and the cone factory with 410hp so do those and u are bumping 430ish hp then get it tuned easy potential to get 460-500hp from it. With just doing those simple things. But yep I definitely love this version of the evora the most.

    What's your take on the release of the C8 in contrast to the Evora GT? C8 for $60k and Evora GT for $103k. How do you square the circle on the two??

    • @TedwardDrives
      @TedwardDrives  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      That's a really good question. The C8's purpose seems to be aimed at taking down supercars. Being just as fast for less than half the cash. In doing so it only comes with a Dual Clutch gearbox and has incredible tech to manage traction and stability. Meanwhile the Lotus is just a car. That's it. It's job is to make you feel like you like you're in charge. No auto rev matching, very basic traction control features...Just an engine, 3 pedals and incredible steering. It's temping to go C8 for the money, but you also might miss out on the old fashion experience of driving. Just depends on what you want out of a car.

    • @Greg_Chase
      @Greg_Chase 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      It's a different buyer. Just like Porsche, which produces nearly 10,000 911 Carrera cars for the U.S. market each year, Chevy mass produces the Corvette, generally 15,000 or 20,000 each year, or in some model years they've made over 25,000 cars.
      Lotus imports 200 or so into the U.S. each year.
      You are not an exclusive sports car fan in the Porsche or the Corvette, even though both are mid- or rear-engine cars. There is zero exclusivity with a Porsche or Corvette. You are a common sight on the road. There are thousands and thousands of them each year. After 10 years there are 100,000 911 cars and 200,000+ Corvettes. But only 2000 Lotus over that same 10-year time period. Rarely seen on the road.
      Lotus has an Engineering consultancy whose clients are other car manufacturers and Lotus' sports cars seem like a showcase of what that Engineering consultancy is capable of. They do not stay in the car business to mass-produce 10,000 or 20,000 cars every year. Lotus was a Formula One World Champion constructor. They invented 'ground effects' aerodynamics that are now used in all open-wheel racing cars.
      So the fans and buyers of Lotus are probably more motorsports-oriented than the generic sports car guy who doesn't mind buying a car that is also owned by 20,000 other people.
      I've driven an Evora GT and it feels much closer to a race car, a track car, than a mass-produced sports car. I think that is the appeal. The engine sound inside is astonishing. It's like 'oh my god, this is crazy for a road car, what in the hell were they thinking when they made this' and I'm pretty sure their thinking was 'we're making it for people who want a car really close to the track.'
      This is not commentary on the quality of the other sports cars. The buyer profile is just a bit different. Buying a hot sports car from an F1-heritage car company is pretty cool.
      The buyers of the new mid-engine Corvette are waiting for the day when the pushrod engine in the 2020 model will be replaced by a 'modern' flat-plane crankshaft overhead valve engine.
      Lotus was putting a dual-overhead-cam flat-plane-crankshaft V8 engine in their cars (the Esprit) starting in 1997. Twenty-three years ago.
      It was surprising to hear of a pushrod engine being put in the new Corvette. I can understand why there was some disappointment with that choice. It is an old layout for a V8 engine, first used in the early 1900s. Sort of low-tech for a sports car.
      The other thing I've heard is that many potential buyers are put off by the loss of a stickshift, a manual transmission. The new Corvette model is automatic transmission only.

    As a low volume manufacturer, they simply reversed the dash and completely ignored the need to creating left hand drive mirror molds to match. you will notice in all other manufacturers, the mirror molds are actually specific to the drive position because left and right drive vehicles have different shapes to achieve the proper angle to be able to see them. Stare at your cars from directly above and you will clearly see this offset on any car (that doesn't hide this fact with symmetrical moldings but asymmetrical innards. the mirrors themselves are always asymmetrical. Next time you get in an Evora, jump into the passenger seat as though it were the driver's and suddenly the mirrors both work nicely.

      Actually, the same is true for quite a few other "last minute" imports of rarer cars that were never intended for LHD. In the middle east and the philipines, the Skyline R32-34s that are LHD are such a case.

      @@royoldschool5352 If I had to venture out a wild guess on the safety front, I don't think the human body was made to take such lateral loads if it was in a collision at that angle.

    Unless Lotus changed something, there actually is something that opens on the front. That little section between the grills just at the bottom of he windshield opens up to access some fluid filler locations, I believe.

    Although I absolutely love Evoras...the MPG hurt to look at. it's the same as a 2002 Acura RL which weights 700lbs more and is 2ft longer lol. There's gotta be some kind of engineering improvement they can make to bump up the MPG a little bit right? Sure the power difference and tuning is significantly different, but damn lol.
