Lotus is a seriously underrated company
Not at all. They are poor quality, uncomfortable, cheap and nasty.
Isn't underrated at all here in Europe , maybe in USA idk
When you look at how many American automotive manufacturers are still practically building their cars from steel girders, installing cheap, plastic interiors and failing in all the reliability and customer satisfaction surveys, it’s a bit rich to knock a small volume manufacturer based in a wooden shed.
@@paddymuppy This one looks pretty sorted out tho. Jay doesn't hold back with criticism. And since they're using other manufacturers parts, it might be reliable enough.
Underrated? By whom? Everybody knows Lotus and what they build.
As an American that has grown up lusting after big block V8 muscle cars from the 60s, I have to say that this is a company that I am really excited to see making a resurgence. As a naive young man, I thought all enjoyment came from a high horsepower vehicle with dynamics being a minor attribute. Lotus has proven time and time again that is simply not true. As I've grown and aged I've come to realize that horsepower and torque come explicitly second to vehicle dynamics and design. Jay, thank you for showcasing what I think is a truly remarkable company that has proven over time what matters most in driving. It's vehicle dynamics (power/weight, turn-in, braking, style) that truly make an amazing vehicle to drive. I wish all the best to the team at Lotus! It may have taken me a few decades to understand it but now that i do I couldn't imagine driving anything that didn't match the dynamics of what Lotus produces. Please continue to build cars for "drivers"! Well done.

I was very lucky to experience the joys of a Lotus from an early age.
My dad restored a rusted out s2 Europa by himself in the mid-80s, when I was barely a teen. Never seen a brighter, 'wetter' candy-apple red gloss paint job on anything before or since. He took me out to canyon roads on sunday mornings to teach me how to drive... in *that* car.
Sad ending; unfortunately an engine fire melted it to slag within a year of restoration :o(.
But while it lasted, the experience of that car's re-found glory was priceless... in many ways.
That how britaim always did the car, much less horsepower then americam cars but half the weight and drivimg dynamics second to npme, thats why the cobra was so succesful cause it had an american enginge with alot of horse in a brittish low weight car

A company I worked for a few of the Americans came over. Nice guys. I showed one of the them (a car fan) my 1960s Mini Cooper which I had then. He boasted of the HP in his big Mustang or Camaro, looking at the little car with a little contempt. I took him for a fast English country road ride. He changed his mind. :) He said it goes around corners like it is one rails.
Meanwhile Toyota is out there putting BMW engines on their sports car when this Evora sounds quite spectacular

@@Fee.1 As much as I'm a fan of a straight six, I'd rather have something developed in house, especially for a halo car.
Supraman same, there is a lot of emotional elements involved with a sports car, I would be much happier with the Camry V6 engine with 3 pedals
@@bosccoh actually here's the question tho is it tunable and will it be able to hold over 1000+hp now I know that we have no idea of what type of power the B58 inline six in the mk5 can make but the Camry V6 would have to get to those type of numbers to call it a supra or it'd be called a RWD Camry not a supra. Other than the fact that it has BMW parts in it pretty much shares some of the traits that the past supras had like it's still rwd,still is a inline six car,and is still is a boat like any ordinary supra so it's pretty acceptable of being a supra if you just forget all the BMW stuff

My buddy bet me 50 bucks that I couldn’t get in/out of an Elise back in ‘06. Left my shoes and jeans in the car on my way out. The dealership wasn’t impressed until my buddy bought it. Good times

The smart car is a jockstrap and the Tahoe is a pair of boxers.
I named my daughter Elise. It was either that or Gallardo.

True car enthusiasts own them. It speaks volumes most people choose a manual, that's unheard of.
It aint a Camry engine any more....its a Lotus engine....says so right on top.
This is my dream car, legit, it will be mine one day, I promise.
I have owned 3 Lotus 2011 Elise R, 2013 Evora NA, 2017 Evora 400. You can now get for a decent price a low miles Evora 400, or get the previous generation Evora (2010 -2014) for even less $.
I just got my dream lotus and it’s better than I expected. Go for it!

I have been driving my Evora 400 for 4 days now, already put 800 miles on it. What a fantastic car.
That is great. I bought a new 2017 Evora 400 about 2 yrs ago. I drive it all the time, it is fun.
May I ask what you do for money?
I love the fact that Lotus is still in business as a friend of the true driver. I would love to have one.

Yeah, that red wasn't floating my boat. (But usually red doesn't.) The yellow is cute for a flashy color, but Lotus lately tends to look great in white, maybe some of these kinda retro light non-metallic colors, but BRG could be cool to check out. :)
@@OllamhDrab White would probably need the black made body color like he mentioned as a possibility. BRG would complement the black sculpting lines.

Still waiting for Jay to get an original Lotus Elite on the garage, such an amazing car. Won it's class at le mans 6 times in a row.
Auto enthusiasts wildly underestimate how lovely a well-tuned V6 can sound.
Very true. Alfas Busso V6 is still my favourite engine. Wish I could get it in a modern small twoseater. And if I ever get enough money to replace my old XKR with an F-type I'd go for the S version with the V6. Sounds so much better to my ears than the V8 version does.
You gotta love an Evora, it's easily the best car I've ever owned!
That exhaust and feel of the handling must be very addicting!

The Lotus factory is at a former WW2 airbase.

The Evora's exterior proportions and design are beautiful. The interior's fit and finish looks great and I really like the design of the door card. It sounds fantastic!

Agree. I'm not usually a fan of these types of cars but I have to say these are sharp looking cars. Would not mind owning one if I had the bucks. I like the rear end treatment of the yellow a bit better over the carbon fiber of the red.
Thank God Lotus Cars is still alive and running! I love their cars, their history, their everything and it's such a relief they continue to make cars in the spirit of Colin Chapman. Long may they run.
I am always amazed at how much Jay knows about cars and the people in the industry... It would great to spend time with him in his garage and listen to his wealth of knowledge and look at all those amazing vehicles he owns. He is truly a caretaker of automotive history.

They already did . The ma61 supra was tuned suspension wise by lotus in the 80s and the aw11 mr2 was meant to be a lotus model . It even has lotus tail lights on it
The should had partner to do a new MR2, this car could be exactly that, amazing platform
Toyota wanted an inline 6 engine and not a V6. Also Lotus does not offer a front engine chassis. So yeah... NO.
One of my favourite cars, will definitely own one one day! Glad you guys over in the US of A are getting it now! They drive so nicely. Wonder if you'll get the GT 430 over there.

I'm happy to see some shine on lotus. As a owner of the Elise I can honestly say I've been nothing but happy with my cars , such a great brand and underrated. But that's fine I love driving my car down the street and have no choice but to look and ask about it.
Ahh, the Elise. Love that car. I have a 2011 Elise R and an Evora 400. Very different cars but both are terrific.

yeah and it was off market from 2015 through 2016 only because they couldn't manage the engineering effort in time to meet the us spec requirement of the passenger airbag releasing when the seatbelt is not plugged in. Literally stupid regulations - as in regulations to protect the stupid at the sad cost of a smart small company.
This is a bloody fantastic looking car wow! I think it got everything going for it. Looks exotic without being over the top with aero and ducts, nice lines.
I had an Elise for 2.5 years and loved that car. It was time to move on, but I miss it. 25K miles of bliss on mountain roads and a few track days at Thunder Hill and Laguna Seca.
I must own this car it’s perfect in every way 😍

We were talking about this the other day. Imagine the new Supra using this exact configuration. 400HP and stick, might be doing a bit better in the opinions shared online.

Yes, pretty much. The reason I buy a Toyota is for the engine and overall powertrain. Take that away, and its not a Toyota anymore. This is a real Toyota.
