I own both of these pistols. Taking my wife to the range next weekend to decide what works for her. Currently, she prefers the size of the 365-380, but she has not live fire that pistols. She is similar in overall height, weight, and hand size as your wife. I suspect the Security 380 will be a better shooter and racking the slide will be easier , but I am keeping my mouth shut because I want her to decide. Honestly, I am just happy she agreed to having a pistol. Thank you for making this video, and I plan to share this with her, AFTER our range visit to listen to her feedback.

Great novice woman’s perspective on these pistols. Honest and unbiased perspective that most experienced shooters don’t have much of, so it’s great to hear just the first impressions of a novice shooter. They’re always honest.
My girlfriend years ago, had never shot a gun before but she really wanted to try it. All I had at the time was my Beretta 92F which is no “beginner gun” but I ran her through how to operate it and all the safety protocols and range rules before we went to the range.
Her first impressions manipulating the slide and dry-firing practice in my apartment were, “Oh man, this thing is heavy and I’m afraid of it.” She was 5,4 a hundred 20 pounds, much like your wife. Tiny delicate hands. But, she really absorbed my instructions and wasn’t about to back out. Tough girl.
At the range I told her that her first shot might be scary so if she doesn’t like it, to just set the pistol down on the bench, muzzle down range of course, and I’ll clear the pistol. Her first shot hit the target at 10 yards. “Nice shot!” I said and she kept her grip and shot again. Even better. (She wasn’t scared anymore, she was having fun.) I loaded another mag and gave it to her. Every move we practiced at home, she was repeating here live, like she’s done this for years. (Women are much better students than men.)
After a couple mags and some astounding 10-ring hits, her hand was tired and it was my turn. I looked at her and said something like, “Oh man, I don’t think I can compete with that, you’re a natural!” I put a quick and tight five round group in the lower left corner of the target staying well away from her more centered shots. She jumped up, “I shot better than you!” I nodded, “Yep. You sure did girl.” A cease fire was called and we changed targets. Now she’s getting serious and took her time aiming as if this was a competition now, and I’d surely lose. She got 3 in the 10 ring, a few flyers but really good shooting for her first day. I sent one in the bullseye and then emptied the mag in the lower right corner of the target. Point wise, she won again.
We changed targets again and she caught on to what I was doing. “You bastard! You’re letting me win! You’re not even trying! One perfect bullseye and all this other crap?!
Shoot for real so I know where I’m at!” Man was she pissed.
“Okay babe, I wanted you to get relaxed and competitive here and you did that. Here’s what it looks like when I’m trying.” Sent a quick five round group in the 10 and 9. “Now that’s my spot. Try to hit the lower left corner with five rounds as close together as you can. That’s your spot.” A few missed but a decent group in the corner. Well done.
Now she wanted her own pistol, one that fit her hands better, one less powerful, and maybe painted god-awful pink. Whatever.
At the gun store she settled on the “Lady Smith” revolver .38. It wasn’t available in pink unfortunately but a classy nickel finish she really liked. Small and light, it fit her well. We went to the range every weekend and she was very fond of the sport now and an excellent shot, even with a snub nose 38.
Watch out for a woman who gets passionate about shooting, she’ll very likely be better than you.
Sorry for the long story, and thanks to your wife for reminding me of a beginner woman shooter I once knew.

I have a Ruger security 380 and a P365 9mm. I got the 380 Ruger because it has a 1/2" longer barrel for more velocity. A 1/2 inch is hardly notable in my waist band or my jean pocket. I like the Ruger sights for the rounded rear sight, the front sight just slips right into rear sight with virtually no fooling around getting it centered in the square rear sight. I got a Ruger Security 9mm after the 380. I like all 4 but am partial to the Ruger's.
If the no dots on the rear sight of the Ruger is an issue you can get a Ruger factory rear sight with the white dots. they make a model with the rear white dots. I like the fiber optic front sight, it is a real attention getter. With a setup like that you may not want a red dot sight. I feel like looking for a dot in a box is too distracting. Good review good luck with your firearm venture and hope you never need it except at the range.

Hello Mrs. Phat Tactical...Nice review! I bought a Sig P365-380 about a year ago, and it quickly became my favorite EDC gun. It has never had a single mis-fire or jam, it performs flawlessly and accurately using standard pressure and +P ammo.
Also, I would like to suggest that you always carry your gun on your person, and never in a purse or fanny pack or back pack. A typical street thug wants your purse or your fanny pack or your back pack, and said thug will take any of those items from you and run away, and you just gave your defense pistol to a criminal who will use it on you or another person!
Your gun is much safer and much quicker accessed when carried on your person. And the P365-380 is a GREAT EDC gun, especially when loaded with Underwood Xtreme Defenders or Defiant Munitions defense ammo. Keep up the good work! 👍

She was also having issues locking the slide back on her M&P Shield 9 so I gifted her my Ruger Security 380 and went out and bought a new replacement... This is defiantly a GREAT gun for those who need more trigger, slide and recoil management... At the end of the day, one needs to be able to master their gun to get shots on target regardless of caliber God forbid their lives depend on it as there are NO make up shots under stress....

Thank you for this review. I've been researching both of these firearms for my first purchase. I've watched a lot of good videos about both. Ms. Tiny Tactical your review as a female and as a beginner was great, and was very relatable. I understand what you said about other guns being too powerful and not just in recoil. I've rented some guns, 9 mm, that I've felt the same about them. My first purchase is going to be the Ruger Security 380. Once again thanks for the information. It was very helpful.

While I do feel she is too large for me and my body size to Conceal Carry - she is my #1 go to for anything else. I will keep the Ruger close by for home defense, and long drives in the car any time I’m not planning on CC. I have tried several other guns over the past several months and I still go back to her and just love it. To me she is my comfort pistol and quickly becoming my “old faithful”. Enjoy and stay safe 😊

@@PhatTactical Just curious if you have tried the Galloway precision optics plate on your Ruger S380. I was looking at the design of this plate and notice that on the Galloway web site it indicates that certain optics with the RMSc footprints eg. Holosun 407k, does not use the locating pins (which also function as recoil lugs)on the front of the plate. As such the recoil force is resisted only by the two screws holding the red dot to the plate. In the long run, these screws would become loose or break. One poster in reddit did complain exactly that and went back to the iron sight. I sent an email to Galloway voicing about my concern but have yet to see a response.
The slide of the S380 is too thin to have an optics cut (per Galloway Precision).
Also Lakeline LLC offers optics plate for Ruger S9 and S380 (same plate), but a customer complained that it would not fit the S380. So right now I am still looking for a reliable optics plate for the S380, unless your long term experience proves me wrong!

I just picked up the P365 .380 but I really like the look of that Ruger and its price point is really Sweet. I think you cannot go wrong with either one for EDC.
Great review, I am from NYC, Never though I would have to Carry one day, but what a crazy and insane world this place has become. Stay safe all.
No I will not be carrying in NYC as they are still working on passing the law and even if i can carry I can't imagine how horrible they will treat me when i need to defend myself, NYC is Another or worse than California. Ill be leaving this city soon, born and raised here to bad us natives are being pushed out with their anti defense laws, Transgender Schooling Laws, Housing Of Illegal Migrants, and Criminal Protection for Criminals, etc.

One more time. I don't know who it was but somebody on the video took the site off the Ruger and they had some kind of deal to slide into the dovetail with the optic on it and I've been looking for that video again cuz I thought I was seeing things tonight. The weather was bad where I was at and I lost it and I haven't been able to find it again but what they did. They slid the optic I guess on a plate and they slid it into the dovetail where the real sites at and I'm not sure but I think you can get different sites for the back end too. I love my sig 380, and it has become my favorite gun to shoot. I am older and have no grip strength in my hands because of injuries, and for that reason I had some trouble with the sig out of the box. I bought the Wilson Combat grip and also the WC weights (3oz), and the sig now shoots like a dream. It is super fast and accurate. I put a Holosun 407k on it, and it is now my primary carry gun. I am thinking about using the WC XL grips this winter, which can use the 12 round 380 mags with a flat plate. The XL grip is more comfortable for me than the smaller 365 grip. The Macro grips can only use 9mm mags, which seems to work perfectly with 380 ammo. There is some talk about sig coming out with 17 round 380 mags soon. WC has announced that they are going to make a macro grip and it should be available soon.
    - All sigs have very stiff springs out of the box. My sig got a lot easier to rack after a couple of hundred rounds. I recommend using Handi Racker (available on amazon) if you are having any problem racking the slide. The orange one works on all 365s.
    - I hope that you get your 365 modified so that you enjoy it as much as I enjoy mine.
    - Sig has some 380 self defense ammo for short barrels, and I have found that ammo to be very accurate.

Thank you for the detailed advise and info. Mrs Tactical said she’s definitely going to look into improving the 365 with some of that you mentioned. She really loves it which is why she purchased it so she’s willing to modify it to be even better. The Ruger is easier out of the gate BUT she says it’s slightly too large for her to carry. Or be comfortable carrying it for now.

Thanks for the review. I finally got to hold a Security 380 this weekend and I liked it but it actually looked smaller than I thought it was when I saw it in the case. While I probably won't carry it since I have a P365-380, Glock 42, and LCP Max, I think I will pick one up as I enjoy shooting 380. I don't have big hands so while I shoot 9mm just fine, I prefer carrying a small and light pistol and I get to wear shorts to work so even a loaded up P365 feels heavy on my waist compared to the Glock and LCP Max, but I shoot the P365 so much better that it will be my main carry.
My friend who was with us, picked up a Security 380 for his wife this weekend. He also bought my P365 9mm not too long ago but wanted something easier for her to rack.

@@KevHickif the snappiness/recoil is a concern on the 365, we just added the DPM recoil system and will be doing a video on they for the 365. One of the springs in the kit kept the recoil slightly lower and the shooting was flatter so it helped with muzzle rise.

Tiny tactical here - today we were out at facilities; we shot for about 2.5 hrs… I changed out the DPM springs on the p365 to see if it would help with recoil. While 1 of the springs did help shoot flatter on quick follow up shots - I would grab the Rugar after and THATS my GUN!! I would shoot it all day every day first choice as of now. I’m more accurate, the slide is down right awesome, and the balance and grip is perfect every time with no modification. I think one of the few exceptions to off body carry would be a tactical bag, like the 511 bags. However, I would say no in almost all cases, except the gym. It’s nearly impossible to find some thing that will work for men and women’s gym shorts. There’s just no real pockets or material there to hide the gun. For this use case only, I’m in favor of off body carry, but definitely not a purse. it needs to be a bag with straps that go on your shoulder, It could also be a gym bag. The pro for a gym bag is there usually full of smelly clothes, and not high on peoples steal list. Just my thoughts on off body carry. Also, it would really help if the gym had memberships and lockers with locks. I know it kind of defeats the purpose of carrying in the first place, however, securing that item is important.

@@toddm9501 I get it, however, off-body carry is still dangerous. I do empathize, no one‘s professional attire and professional should cost them safety. Now I get scrubs don’t have very big pockets if any, and are designed badly from that perspective. I would say that an acceptable option might be a fanny pack. At that point it’s still qualifies as on body carry. Easy to put on after work, paired with a gun like the Hellcat, Taurus GX4, or Glock 42/26. I would recommend the hellcat and GX4, over Glock(better grip and much better trigger) The brand 511 Clothing and gear company make a wonderful tactical fanny pack that she can shove her hand in and come out in a fraction of a second with a loaded gun. I might suggest that as an alternative? From what I understand, nurses and doctors have lockers at work. Perhaps put it in her purse in the small fanny pack and lock it up. Then after work, put it on for the parking lot or late night, 7-Eleven run. Hope the suggestion helps.

HP simple don't work reliably in 380 like they do in larger calibers. The velocities are marginal to ensure proper performance. In gel+frabic tests, HP either expand but fail to penetrate or clog and fail to expand. The best performers for 380 are "solids" like the Underwood Xtreme Defender and Xtreme Penetrator and Defiant Muntions TCX.

From watching this video, both the TH-camr making this and the wife could benefit from hiring a firearm instructor. I.e. shots that are hitting way low and right is due to not isolating the trigger finger. When squeezing the trigger finger there is a tendency for the other 3 fingers sneezing, this causing sights to go low missing your point of aim. Also the wife is allowing her trigger finger to release trigger all the way to it's natural resting position, this when she is ready to take next shot she is more likely to slap the trigger again causing shot to miss. Also shots that are printing very high is due to anticipating recoil and pushing the muzzle up. Need to only release trigger until it resets and it also looks like she is applying too much pound on trigger. So if trigger breaks at 4.2lbs you only need 4.3lbs but she may be applying 10lbs which is not only going to disturb your sight picture it will take longer recovery to get back on target.
My recommendation a .22lr is not recommended because rimfire is not as reliable but I'd you get good ammo it is good. The .380 is too much recoil for her. She should drop down to 22lr and practice with .380 until she can do "controlled pairs" at 7ft 21ft and 30dt. Double taps only work if your fundamentals are expert level

@@PhatTactical micro pistols require more skill and trigger time. Compact pistols are more reliable, softer recoil, easier to shoot. The Ruger .380 is compact size but much more shootable than p365. The p365 trigger is horrible, too spongy and over travel is too much. Wife support hand is actually perfectly placed. She has on her support hand wrist bent down, 45 degrees which locks the tendon. She needs to apply 98% grip strength on support hand but her dominant hand(trigger finger) needs to be very relaxed and hardly no pressure at all. This prevents the sympathetic squeeze and help prevent sight from pring pressed down. Also by keeping support hand down 45 degrees locking tendon she is controlling more recoil. Tell her not to try and anticipate recoil just press the trigger and allow the locked wrist to let the muzzle and sights return to zero on its own. To see if she is flinching insert a snap cap in the magazine and if she is flinching you will see the muzzle move when firing a dummy round. It's hard to see a flinch with live round being fired. That's why sneak an empty round midway in magazine.
