Ive had my Security 9 for about 2 years now & I have shot about 2500 rounds through it - not a single miss feed or issue. (with any type of ammo, including re-loads) It is my first EDC & still is today. The price was the selling point for me along with the Ruger brand & reviews were great. Personally, I have no issue with the safety & I do not even think about it when I draw. I pull from the holster & I click the safety off. I would highly recommend this firearm - it is priced right & very dependable. Disassembly & cleaning is very easy too.

My experience and time-line w the Security 9 is almost exactly the same as yours other than I have had some misfires w reloads, but that was when I was new shooter, so I'll chalk some of that up to me, BUT I have had ZERO misfires w factory ammo, about 1,200 rounds.
150 rds on Saturday, no misfires. I really like it.

I had a couple fail to feed when you got whatever ammo you get I thought it may have just been the ammo. It was not yo long after zI bought it. Around that same time I had another pistol of mine doing that once in a while when I had it broke down I notice where the bull it slide into the chamber from the barrel there was a little bump that should not be there so I took a fine piece of sand paper and sanded it dii oh em until the slide was very smooth rubbed tiny but of oil on it next time at the range no more issue not one since so When field stripping security 9 compact I sanded it down unti super smooth never had another issue with that. I was really new to hand guns could have been caused by me learning to shoot correctly but I will always make sure my pistols have a nice smothered slide up into the chambet

*They now have a Ruger Security-9 Pro that doesn't have a safety. I just bought one last month thinking it was the regular model with the safety but when I picked my order up it ended up being the Pro model. It's a great gun but I personally would have preferred to have the safety. I ended up just selling it to my father and bought the Beretta 92fs Inox (Basically a stainless Beretta M9).*

The safety: not even close to a deal breaker! Actuating it should be “tough” to prevent accidental deployment when under fire in a defensive shooting scenario. I find taking the safety off with the thumb very easy and comfortable…while maintaining a proper grip. I really enjoy this firearm and I trust it.

I was deemed a snob because of my lack of interest in Glock I since the wheel gun era was the same with Ruger. My wife being who she is has a habit of invading my firearms and taking what she wants and calling it hers. This changed with the LCP 2. SHE FELL IN LOVE, BOUGHT IT WITH HER MONEY AND CARRIES IT RELIGIOUSLY. SHE ACTUALLY BRAGS ON IT! Oh but I was in a academy looking for ammo. I saw this firearm and I didn’t pick it up but I had to put my hands on a S&W Shield plus. Yet my yes kept going back to the this gun. I took my wife over to the same store and it was gone. We went to another academy they didn’t have one. I had her look up the nearest gun store. She found a SHOOT POINT BLANK STORE. We went and the S&W followed us home and so did the SECURITY 9. I WENT BACK AND GOT THE SECURITY 9 COMPACT! Guess who confiscated the compact?

I bought the Security 9 soon after it was introduced because I liked its feel vs Glock. not to mention the price. Mine came with a trigger guard mounted veridian laser, which makes it great for home defense, for under $350. The safety WAS pretty stiff when new, so I worked it a hundred times or so and it became comfortably stiff but not worrisome stiff. I was so impressed I later checked out and bought an EC9s, which is my EDC. I bought an LCP II for the mrs, Davidson's special moonshine blue. All of them have been 100% reliable, with various ammo, 0 misfeeds. Keep them clean and lubed, like any frearm

This was my first gun also, 3 years ago. I put 1000s of rounds through it, put some hi-viz sights on it. You know what they say about the person with only one gun!? My sec. 9 and my Springfield XDM 9 2.0 has become, "stays in my safe guns". My S&W M&P 2.0, 4" barrel with Holosun 507 green dot and apex trigger has become my EDC. I have a sig P320 with 407K 6 moa sight and a CZ 10C with 407K (both co witness with stock sights because the 407K sits so low in my milled slide.) I have become very proficient with both of them to use as my EDC, should I have to turn my S&W over to the LEO after an incident, I hope I'll never see!

I've got one of the compact models. 10+1 in a smaller package. The next time it malfunctions will be the first time. I try other carry guns but keep coming back the Security 9. The safety is designed to be hard to swipe on by accident, but it swipes off like a 1911. I got mine a couple of years ago and I think I paid about $250.00 for it NIB. It was on sale at my LGS. They had a stack of them that weekend. I've carried it off and on for a couple of years with a very small amount of finish wear around the muzzle. VERY small amount. You have to catch the light right to notice it. It just chugs along with any kind of ammo. Factory, reloads, ball, HP. Doesn't matter. It might not be the "best" carry gun ever, but I've got several others that I paid a lot more money for that stay in the safe, while the Ruger rides in a holster more and more. Another plus. It came with two magazines, something some of my much more expensive guns didn't.

I can already see that I would prefer the Ruger over the Glock for one very good reason. I am a small person. I am 5' 2" and 130lbs. The Glock take-down is designed almost the same as the S&W SDVE pistol and I am totally unable to take the pistol apart for cleaning. I've tried everything I can think of, and I am not able to grip those serations on both sides of the pistol in order to remove the slide. I purchased the S&W SD40VE about a year ago and I have not been successful in being able to dismantle the firearm for cleaning. On top of that, the trigger pull is atrocious. I am seriously considering the Ruger Security 9 model 3825 as a replacement.

    • @craven1927
      @craven1927 ปีที่แล้ว

It's more accurate to say the S&W SDVE takedown is designed like the Glock. S&W got into legal trouble for copying the Glock design back in the 90's. If you're going to go with S&W then look at the M&P series instead. They're a better design than the SD and have a better takedown system that uses a lever instead.

Got mine a few months back. Now, did I give it a thorough cleaning before I shot it? May have been my bad. My S&W and Beretta I lubed the barrel and oiled the rails before I shot them for the first time and they were fine. Did the same type of cleaning with the Security 9 and had some misfeeds and the slide never locked back after the final round. That was using Federal 124gr HP's. Took it home and gave the thorough cleaning. Last week took it out again using the S&B ammo, and it fired one or two, then the hammer clicked and I could see the firing pin strike on the casings. So, my S9 did not like S&B ammo. Strange thing was, I switched ammo and fed it Blazer's and all 50 rounds in the box went off without a hitch and the slide locked back after expending the final round. No misfeeds. I love the feel of this gun and it shoots accurately, but I will be a little concerned when I take it out the next time. First time with issues it may have been the lack of a thorough cleaning. The second time may have been the ammo. So, we will see. My S&W shot the S&B ammo that didn't pop in my Ruger just fine.

Yes and no depending on the circumstances. The Security 9 is consumer grade. And that is it's intent. However with upgrades it can compete with the big competition.Again there are limited after market upgrades but the upgrades I think necessary will have to come from Ruger to make it a major player to get the respect from recognized shooters. The price will obviously change but for a gen 2 model I envision the respect will come.It was my hope ,considering the type of fire control it has as well as other features ,the upgrades would have already occured.Still waiting. If you want ideas ,ask me.

My first pistol that I bought almost 2 years ago. I’ve upgraded a number of things on this gun. Switched out the sites for fiber optic high viz. sites, put on the Galloway seneschal short stroke aluminum flat faced trigger, added talon grips and talon slide grips. The upgrades have really made a big difference. It’s a very solid user-friendly and reliable firearm. Especially for a first time gun owner who lives in a restricted state. So the pistol is strictly for home defense and some fun and marksmanship at the range. Love it!

    Ruger Rifles > Ruger Pistols.
My Security 9 is generally okay, but it's finicky compared to my other pistols - CZ P-01, Beretta 92, and SW Shield. Those all eat anything, the ruger does not. It stovepipes occasionally. As such, I don't trust it for a carry gun.

Has anyone added a Galloway Seneschal trigger? Happy with it?

Yes. Worth the money. Less travel and well defined break.

What IWB holster do you recommend?

I have a Crossbreed SuperTuck. It’s leather and Kydex, pretty good retention. Alien gear cloak tuck is another good option. There are likely a lot of other good ones, but I have used both of these.

@@TheConcealedCarryChannel Holsters wear no problem, I almost bought a Uncle Mike off the wall at my LGS, with adjustable retention screes.

I have a Muddy River Tactical IWB and I just bought the Comfort Tac. I like both, but the Comfort Tac is what I've switched to more on a regular basis recently.

you say "I don't like safety on my gun" and then you say the safety is hard to "put on" and then say "the safety is easy to switch off the safety", What? do not engage the safety if you do not want it. I like it, I learned on a 1911, and used a 1911 for years.

Would this be good for a woman who can’t shoot a 38 because of recoil?

I always begin this conversation by recommending a day at the range. My wife tried about 12 different semi-autos and revolvers before settling on a Glock 42 in .380 auto. The Security-9 is going to have a bit of recoil also, but since it is about the same size as a Glock 19 it would be a lot easier to handle, I would think. I would recommend calling around to see which range has the Security-9 in their rental stock and go try it. Good luck, and thanks for watching!

What kind of 38? 38 has very little recoil in a full size revolver like a GP100. 38 especially +P can be snappy in a S&W J frame or Ruger LCR tiny revolvers. 9mm can be snappy in small semi-auto pistols. The Security9 is medium size and weight. To me it's a smooth shooter. Go to a range that rents guns, you'll find one that fits you. If you try a 9mm and it's too snappy, 380 is a pretty soft shooting round.

Added a grip sleeve to my Security 9,more stability was a plus....Glock 19 at 15 meters didn't have same accuracy as the Ruger.

The Security 9 was too small for hand. I traded it in after only 60 rounds being run through it.
