    Hi, Ami!
Yesterday I spent 24 hours without using my phone. Recently I haven't had any motivation for the simplest activities, so I decided that I would spend this day taking advantage of every moment for myself. I learned that every time I sat on the bed to relax with my phone in my hand as usual, I simply didn't do anything useful, that I did it out of habit, because I was bored. Now I know that when I am bored or tired, it will be better to use this time differently. I can admit that this day will remain in my memory as one of the best days of my life. I felt like I was living every second without interruption for some useless information from TH-cam or Tik Tok.

My experience with academics is a painful one. Until I was 12, my parents put in a lot of effort to push me to do well, and so I did and that motivated me to continue the streak of being the topper at everything. I did not use a phone back then, my goal in life back then was academic domination. Then, I entered high school (my school's called high school, ages 13-18, anyways) and it was basically a school for the gifted, super accelerated in STEM and I got so demotivated by the geniuses around me. My parents didn't interfere with my studies much anymore at that points. My grades went down the rut, and that lasted a year and a half until I decided enough was enough, then ended up doing really well at the end of my second year. After that, in year 3, I thought I would continue the streak of excellence I just started again. However, the fact that I was a time-waste-prone person still had not changed. I ended up performing, cohort-average-like that year. This year, I thought I was going to have my academic comeback. A semester lapsed, I actually failed my Physics exam, just passed my Math exam, and a subject I always prided myself on, English, dropped to a new new low of a B. I performed worse than expected for Biology, the subject I am most passionate about. Days after this, I fell into a cycle of extremely low self-confidence, trying to forget I was a failure, and what stood out to me the most is that the single true vision of myself that I had in my head was the one who topped every subject, and scored one of the top marks in the country, and got into the most competitive high school in the country. And lastly, made my parents the most proud. I am now at the most expensive school, and my parents do make it a point to tell me every single time about how I am wasting away their hardwork. And I understand, truly.
However, my vision now is to get back into that successful sense of self that I used to be in. That feeling of wanting to score the highest possible grades.
It's a new semester, however, I do feel that my old habits have not changed. However, I am trying so hard. I am consulting all my subject teachers weekly, and trying to put in effort to stay on top of all my academics, despite the rigour. Although it is true that I am undertaking the hardest academic curriculum possible here, the country of the smartest Asian students collapsed into one, I am going to stop making the excuse for myself that it is okay to be mediocre within that crowd.
The most important thing to remember is my potential, which I know is far above mediocre, even in this school.
So I am going to make it happen, and hopefully in 5 months, y'all will see an update to this story about my academic comeback ❤

And as a 10th grader , with lots of expectations of my Asian parents , i feel overwhelmed and pressured to get those A+. Earlier I got so anxious and distressed while studying for my exams because i only used to think about my marks and my class rank. But I'm glad that I've found a way to escape this loop hole. i typed out this long comment then accidentally closed the tab.. 😭here i go again:
    hi amy!
i just wanted to share a bit about me and how you've helped my life. i rarely ever comment on videos, so this is my first.
im a 16 year old who has been looking to improve my life -- which i've already done by replacing tiktok/scrolling with reading, working out consistently, reading more, and spending quality time with friends and family.
the change really started in the summer of last year, where i was completing an assignment on the VERY last day, just before the new school year would start. while trying to complete the summer assigment, i got distracted, doomscrolled, procrastinated, then realized that i would have to sacrifice sleep to finish it, JUST because i hadn't started it earlier in the summer. (i did get it done.. but the tendency to procrastinate was persistent throughout the beginning of the year). i was really frustrated with myself, so i'd watch videos to try and fix my bad habits. i got stuck in the loop of coming home from school, watching self-improvement videos, then thinking that i was making progress when really i wasn't. i also played video games quite a bit, instead of focusing on real life. it really felt like i hit "rock bottom" at one point. i felt so isolated and had low self-confidence. also, i couldn't even read or do something "boring" without the urge to scroll on tiktok or play a game.
after a tough journey of giving up perfectionism, implementing healthy habits, and, getting rid of bad habits (junk food, scrolling, video games, etc.), learning, i finally made significant progress. but what i've realized is that it takes a LOT of failure and falling back to old habits to really turn into a new version of yourself. even when you feel like you're on top of the world & super consistent, the next day may not be the same. that's just a part of the process of improvement. the key is being able to "bounce back" on track no matter what. you can't flip your life around drastically in a single day and stay in a perfect way forever, but what you can do is take little steps each day towards your goals and work on yourself for the long-term.
within 6 months or so, i seriously transformed my life for the better. i learned how to become a better student, not only by watching your videos, but by ACTUALLY IMPLEMENTING the advice that you've provided.
a tangible piece of change i noticed is how my math grade went from a LITERAL C in math to an A+ at the end of semester 2. i would've never thought that fixing my sleep schedule, eating healthier, reducing screen time significantly, doing sports, going to the gym, meditating, journaling, and spending time with loved ones, (ETC.) would impact my performance in school. i just thought that i had to study harder, which sure, i did, but i studied smarter and improved my strategies.
i want you guys to believe in yourselves and know that no matter how much you are struggling, you can do it. i believe in you and it will be a hard journey to change, but every bit of it is worth it. change out of a place of love for yourself, do what's best for you. do not out of hatred or for external praise.
thank you so much amy for inspiring me along the way. 💝

The last one really helped me.
I am taking summer classes online and am back home for now.
I have been having the best conversations with my older sister. We have grown as people so much and love who we are becoming.
My sister is unfortunately sick and may not have very much time left.
I know that I have school work and other responsibilities, but I will start more to give her time to just chill and have fun.
I have been using much of my free time to play video games and watch movies after doing school work, I will reduce those times drastically to make more memories with her and other family members.
Thank you so much for this video, especially for that last one, I will no longer see it as a waste of time or taking time away from school work when we have 2-3 hours convos and have it eat into video game/media time instead.

The best thing that helped me was starting small and eventually building discipline. Start with the easiest habit you want to convert into discipline and maybe tell yourself I'm going to do after , you get the point. Start with small habits and when you see it coming naturally to you after a few days/weeks, you will be proud of yourself and love being disciplined. It just makes life so much easier to be disciplined.
Another piece of advice is to not scroll/watch TV right after you come from the Office or school. You are in productive form after you are back, if not tired, try starting a new project or studying one topic for starters. And then treat yourself a little for doing it. This will alter your mindset and you will love doing it every day.
Also, remember to not be hard on yourself, it just makes the journey difficult. It is all about consistency. Love yourself !!

i mean these two things aren't mutually exclusive. i like to use study with me videos to help motivate myself to study in the moment, and also because a lot of them have timers and chill background music included, but obviously i'm also on this channel looking for more long-term advice and am trying to set myself up for success beyond a single study session. I do feel like study with me videos can be useless if you don't actually study along with them/ram your head into the wall trying to study in a way that just doesn't work for you, but if you're applying long term advice at the same time, i feel like they can be a really useful tool in your arsenal (if you find that they help you. obviously if you find them more distracting than helpful you dont need to try and force them to help you)

One of your advice literally changed my life. In one video you said that no matter how hard or how mean my proffersor i will end up with the result that i want. It was something like that and you showed how you worked on those hard subjects. So i too found some resources for my hard subjects and worked hard on them. Guss what, i ended up with A passes. While my some other clever classmates get low results for those subjects, i got A passes. I'm really thankful for your videos, they always motivate me.

    Hey Amy,
I am a girl who is currently in class 11.In india we actually complete high school in 10th class. I found your channel while scrolling through shorts on TH-cam. There you had mentioned that you were a VALEDICTORIAN. And at that time I didn't know what valedictorian was. Then I discovered that the valedictorian is someone who comes first among all aispairents who give the exam for high school graduation from your school. And tyen I was like, 'being valedictorian is really cool' so I started studying hard and following your tips.
In midtimes I was like why amy is not being aesthetic but then one day I realized that aesthetics are there just to make us a little happier but the reality is never going to be that much aesthetic. There I realized that out of many people out here you are teaching us all the true values😊.
And my hard work finally paid off. I finally became the valedictorian. 🎉🎉 And I really want to tell you that if I didn't know about you, I would not have that amount of motivation.
This video of yours had give me alot to think about. Inspired by you I also have started my own TH-cam channel just to enjoy my studies.
And to the A team. Because of y'all guys I have been doing really great in studying.
Once again I thank you from the bottom of my heart💖💖
    Yours truly,
    Perfectionista 🫶

I am si happy that a video like this exists. I was trying to have a productive conversation with my friend and her response sounds alot like the comment at the beginning of the video. She told me i she act like a regular teenage and spend my allowance money on other things than advice books and a new hobbies. The girl said quote on quote "why do you have so many hobbies, just be normal and enjoy life." I sent her the link to this video hoping she will see that investing my time energy and money in educating and developing myself to my best best version is how I enjoy life. My dream was to become a dentist, so I worked hard throughout high school. Unfortunately, I didn't get the results I needed on my finals and got waitlisted. I've been watching your videos through summer break, and I'm ready to make an academic comeback this year! I'm gonna redo my exams and ACE them. I definitely believe that I can do anything I set my mind to as long as I value the 24 hours I have every single day! In my culture, and throughout my life, I've valued my family a lot, and I think I struggled to balance school and relationships. But I finally found a youtube who actually has similar values as me! Thank you for sharing the things you know. If I get into dentistry, I'll really feel like I owe a lot of it to you!

I'm really happy i stumbled upon this video because ive been trying to focus on the valuable things in life rather than the superficial adrenaline rush but lately with all the hardships and setbacks at times its much more easier to open my phone screen and scroll to distract myself away from the pain of it, from the pain of uncertainity and unpredictability that my hardwork isn't going to yield good things for me, but i really overlooked the joy of providing value and being someone gaining joy from vakuabke things than actually constantly running in the rat race of success, i want to wake up everyday and feel the joy of being present in the moment instead of worrying whats coming ahead, living in chaotic situations it can be easier to distract myself from the pain temporarily but its not going to help me in the longer run, in order to feel all the good things deeply its important to stay conscious i bad times or the ones with chaos,,, i really loved how amy added the quote by albert einstein that said "strive not to be a success but rather to be of value" it brought back things in perspective, really thanks

This is honestly the most practical and paradigm shifting approach to go about managing my life (as a college student hoping to graduate with a first class honours). I am so glad to have come across this channel cause I relate to Amy’s mindset and fits perfectly with where I want to go. Back in my high school days I was one of the top students that graduated with straight As and was always at the top. Though I didn’t get to be the top by being naturally “smart” or anything but through my hard work, commitment and my work ethic that I consistently built as I went. This is just what I needed to hear to sharpen my saw and get in to flow of working towards my goals of achieving the best possible outcome from my college experience and reach my long term goals. This is much needed advice, thanks a lot Amy!

Hi, I just wanted to share something. For 2 years, I found meaning in life. (basically what's mentioned in the video) Then, people around me were seemingly enjoying life doing other things like going out, watching movies/anime/dramas,inetc. So i decided to try it out and experience this "fun" that Is couldnt understand but was curious to find out more about. this video helped me realise it wasn't truly real at all. It's temporary satisfaction we crave for whatever reason. I'm going to try and get back on track to create meaning in my life now by changing my mindset. Thank you, Amy! ❤

I have just read a book about people living in the "blue zone" of okinawa. So basically people who live the longest.
The books title is "ikigai" which is a concept of living. Basically you broke it down, summarised it and by reframing things also used that concept right away.
I can highly recommend that book. It is wholesome to read. And it gives a glimpse of peoples lives that follow this concept. They don't do it on purpose. They do it because they love it and you can truly feel that. ❤

im watching this while cleaning so i havent been able to absorb every bit haha, but im so grateful for this video. the idea that instant satisfaction =/= happiness and meaning is so important to understand and im glad to be learning. i know this is kinda stupid to say, but as an american ive always been terrified about my consumption and hedonism, this was wonderful to hear! i am not a hedonist i want to learn to love the work, even when i hate it. working towards something, learning something new, and finding meaning are all more important to me than staying comfortable. i have to get out of my comfort zone and work for my living more instead of letting life pass me by. right now im on a "motivational/self improvement high" but im really commiting to changing myself, even when the rush of excitement wears off. as you say in alot of your videos, i have to coach myself! thank you so much for making these videos its a wonder!

edit: so far i've gotten results from 4 exams in 2 courses, I PASSED THEM!
Recently, in Greece, the downfall and degrading of public universities has started.
I've always been somewhat driven, knew that I wanted to become an engineer from middle school
Yet now, in my 2nd semester, I feel burned out. *In this exam season I had 17 exams.* And unemployment legitimately scares me.
But, I'm trying to become as grateful as I can be. I CAN end up finishing engineering school in 5-6 years with a good grade.
I have the opportunity to study and become an environmental engineer and benefit society. I focus on my values, not on "success".

I've consistently been first in my class since I was six, and I'm currently in eleventh grade. Back then, I didn't study much, but this summer, I suddenly started studying every day, leading others around me to believe that I wanted to be the best at everything. The truth is that I had higher expectations. Sure, being at the top is cool, but getting the career I wanted was my main goal, and achieving that goal involved more than just studying hard. Despite spending hours studying every day, I never got tired of it; in fact, I grew accustomed to it since I enjoyed it and knew it would lead me down the road I desired. You expressed exactly how I felt. Rather than going through social media, I help my mom around the house, look after my siblings as I am the oldest, and hang out with my close friends. In order to enjoy the process and learn more every day, I believe it is vital to make sure you are doing it because you want to rather than just because you have to.

Right after my 10th grade (where I went from not studying to continous studying for the boards, it was tedious) I had the vacations in which I was just trying to check things off my wish list and find a way to actually incorporate studying, workout and hobbies into my daily life without burning out. Not that I've ever burned out but after seeing my friend go through that I'm just trying to find ideas and habits to implement into my life that make me want to work and not just rely on motivation (like omg I'll get a happy moment if I do this n all) I found the problem and now I'm just developing a solution and honestly I think I've kind of found it and your video just confirms my suspicions. I've been way more productive now that I've realised this exact mindset of oh ur not just working and in pain but you know this lifestyle is also something you should enjoy, the hot shower baths, the rain, how damn lucky I am to have such good friends etc.

    Hey Amy,
The first video I watched on your channel was "If you are 18-24 years old, please watch this video". Initially, I was skeptical of your title and thought it was just another clickbait video but decided to suspend my judgement. And boy am I glad I did that. You have a treasure trove of wisdom and life experience, AND you are willing to share it with the world (not many who are so talented are able or willing to do such a thing). I truly respect your achievements and your outlook of life, and wish to do the same with mine.
I'm about to matriculate into my first year of University and I've always felt I could do more with my student life (personal issues held me back when I was in Junior College). Seeing how you reframe certain thought processes and encourage your audience to do the same really resonated with me.
I do think I have it in me to be the valedictorian (perhaps a bit presumptuous but hey, that's my opinion), but I'm still not fully convinced yet. I'll be reflecting more on my goals in Uni and just wanted to let you know that you are the big portion of my source of inspiration!

I request the fellow comment reader to like this comment so that i'll remember to write about my success comeback 🎉

Someone help me. I have a busy schedule and I end up with like 4 hours of sleep. Even though, the four hours has the best quality of sleep, I still need a few more hours to feel well-rested.

Hey there! Have you tried creating a balanced timetable or trying the 8-8-8 schedule?

Do you get any short breaks in between the day? Like when you don't have to work/ in the car (if youre not the driver) or just any slot???? Maybe you could try napping!

@@Advika_1207 heyy I didn't really have a good time table but I've been trying to make one recently because I get like zero sleep at times and I realised I can't seem to find more than 4 hours of sleep, I've tried almost everything by now including the 8-8-8 schedule. Technically I can't use it for myself cause' I'm a college student and I spend like 8 hours at college. Plus, I work two jobs part time and transportation too so the other 8 hours of a day is also gone, I find time to study and all in between but it's just 1 hour of studying maximum. So back home, I study like 2-3 more hours and being a person with a ton of other activities, I had to cut off many of them still I spend like an hour for music, shower, dinner and all. Therefore I'm left with like 4-5 hours of sleep 😭😭

@@rihannaCO I can't really try napping cause' I teach music in an institute under the main coach and in the meantime, I'll be working on my small business with my friends which is the only time I actually get some breaks and them added up is like max 1 hour which I use for studying 😭

      @@mayukha_creation I see
I don't know how many breaks you get, but maybe you guys could try resting in one of the breaks? Or just have one day off for sleeping...I know probably not ideal because you need good sleep everyday but something Is better than nothing

The first reframing tool is legit. I personally do this in regards to nursing school, and it also aligns with the “begin with the end in mind” habit from the seven habits of highly successful people book 🙌🏼
